A mysterious beam of light strikes Earth for the second time in seven years, bringing with it a creature of death and destruction, but also, for Adamar and his friends Woeden, John and Tolev, a long-awaited bridge to the past. Adamar, an alcoholic children’s magician, must reclaim his former glory as he joins his fellow stranded travelers, a bartender with a battleaxe, a kind-hearted construction worker and a lethal night watchman in an adventure across space and time. Along with a writer, an astrophysicist, and an unfulfilled corporate vice president, they will race to save a distant world, the future of humanity and the woman Adamar loves. Before their journey’s end, identity, love, sanity, and loyalty will be overturned. Some will fall. Others will rise as heroes. All will be tested. To succeed, they must realize their dreams and uncover a secret from the dawn of creation, a secret wielded by a despotic emperor to enslave his people. Only then can they stop the spread of his sadistic rule and open the portal that will take them home. Adamar, a science fiction / fantasy adventure story. This is the first book in The Hennion Chronicles. The followup to Adamar will be Hennion at War, due out early 2014.

My innards were stitched together with Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, childhood dreams, unbound possibilities, and all of the great 80’s movies. I think Frank Frazetta’s art is tops, and Conan the Cimmerian, Jack Reacher, and Flash Gordon are good role models.

I write fiction in various flavors--sci-fi and fantasy lately. I published my first book in 2012. After several years of honing my craft (which I still continue to do), I became a full-time writer in late 2018.

I’ve enjoyed stories all my life--some in books, some in movies… some in my head. What can I say? Life is great, but so is imagination.

I’ve worked as a bookseller, a research library assistant, a computer network expert, and in a dozen other jobs over the years--some down the street from my childhood home, others which took me across oceans.

If I’m not reading or writing, I’m probably enjoying time with my family or friends, or hiking or Netflix-ing or watching Prime or Hulu…or the Disney streaming service if it’s out when you read this, because Marvel!.

I’ve stumbled just enough times to give me some perspective (and character to my stories), but never so badly as to keep me down--for too long.

I believe in being decent to people just because, and going for what you want even when it seems really hard or almost out of reach.

Within the first 2 pages of this book I knew it was going to be a good one and I was right. Very excellent reading, though it was a strange mix of fantasy and sci-fi. About halfway through the book I decided there weren't enough pages left to finish it, glanced at the back cover, and started cursing out the author. Luckily for me, he was kind enough to finish the book. And while it's obvious that there is more to come, It didn't leave you hanging in the middle of the action. Really, really good book, and I will be looking forward to the next. I do need to disclose that I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Adamar is a rare breed of book that somehow marries urban fantasy to high fantasy and science fiction. Almost as if a group of extraordinary adults were sucked into Flash Gordan's own private session of dungeons and dragons. Fascinating characters and locations and a driving plot really set the bar for this genre mash-up, ultimately creating a page-turning wonder of the imagination.

Interesting Sci-fi scenario

Nice story line with a pretty convoluted plot. Many characters with interleaved plot arcs. Some rough sentence structure broke up the reading flow, but overall an engaging story.

It's not often these days that you run across new fusion of genres that really works well. I finished reading Adamar by Scot C. Morgan recently and it lives up to such a distinction.

The book opens with the reader being introduced to a character named Adamar the Magnificent in what appears to be an AA meeting attended by those who have given up, but have forgotten to quit showing up to the meetings. For all intents and purposes the thirty-something Adamar is a washed-out magician who has allowed alcohol take over his life. The story quickly jumps to scenes introducing other characters, their histories and relationship which will prove important as the story progresses.

We are introduced to Carl the astrophysicist keeping watch for a beam phenomena from space which occurred when he was very young and they wait for it to occur again; to Woeden, a barkeep who tells wonderful stories of his conquests and battles that keep the clientele amused and endeared to him; to a company watchmen, Tolev, who seems to be a tad bit sadistic for his own good.

Right as we are getting to know these characters and their lives, suddenly we are turned on our head when elements of real magic and creatures of fantasy occur here in 21st century Earth as the long awaited beam reappears. Through a series of events resembling six degrees of separation, these very disparate characters are brought together and are taken to the far reaches of a science-fiction universe and others.

The book is easy to read, has good pacing and will leave you feeling satisfied, having enjoyed a good story.

This was very different from what I normally read. It took me a little bit to get into it, but once I did I really enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing what happens next!
