Lissa Rice grew up in the small town of Atwater, CA. She began really writing at the age of 15. Mostly free verse poetry. She still resides in California with her husband and daughter.
This book is about coming of age in a small town in California. It will show you life through the eyes of a teenager and her and her friend’s relationships, crushes, and losses. The story starts in the summer before Maggie’s sophomore year in high school and brings you through senior year. The story is told through Maggie’s point of view as she watches herself and the others around her grow.
I really enjoyed the differences between Maggie and her best friends. The diversity of the characters and how each of them are going through their own unique set of problems and how they handle them keeps you interested.
The book is primarily dialog which I have noticed can take away from what could be great descriptions throughout a book. Lissa Rice has a good balance of both of these elements. However, I would have liked a little more background on each character and a bit more description of the scenes around them.
All About Us is a great young adult read about coming of age and brings you on a ride with Maggie and her friends. If you are looking for a book to bring you back to your high school years to remind you of what things in your life shape you into whom you are or are a young adult looking for a good story about life, love, and loss this is the book for you.
