Fun, light super heroics - with a strong opening arc that settles into a comfortable classic rhythm afterwards. Not bad at all, just nothing revolutionary.

I guess I wasn’t the intended audience. Jessica Drew faces her failings as a girlfriend, friend, and super hero. Most stories are about friendship and love. The super hero fights are really just a backdrop. I would be fine with this if the dialogue was clever or the characterization was consistent. But Spider-Woman’s friends and enemies have personalities that change to fit the current story. But they don’t stay consistent.

Is her brother really smart, diabolical, or a weak asshole who can’t do anything right? In different chapters, he is a different person. The lead villain is Octavia Vermis. She switches from a serious threat to a joke from one arc to the next.

Art is top notch throughout. From Pere Perez, who, I think drew X-Men for years. If you want to read this for the art, and you don’t mind sad mommy jokes, then maybe you will like this.

Wow, Karla Pacheco actually got me to like baby Gerry (in a Franklin Richards kind of way). Come on, the kid started to grow on me!! He was helping his Mom out by zapping up dumb villains. It was a good run! I really liked it a lot and whole-heartedly recommend it.

Then Marvel editorial fucks up. That being said, I’m still trying to process what Marvel did to Spider-Woman’s baby, Gerry. We just can’t have good things with Jessica Dew can we. I have to confess I was a big fan of Spider-Woman as a kid and after they tried to kill her the first time in the original Spider-Woman #50. I had collected the whole complete run and because I was so pissed off, I took them all back to the comic book store and sold them. Why can't they leave Spider-Woman alone? Baby Gerry is cute! Anyways this collection by Karla Pacheco is good and if you are also a fan like I am please go out and get it.

This was such a fun read. After having read the Dennis Hopeless run last year it was great to pick up right back where we left off. This story is fun, full of classic spider woman action and jokes. I really recommend this trade!
