Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez’s acclaimed, character-defining run on the breakout star Spider-Gwen continues!
Gwen Stacy has lost her spider-powers! That makes it a very bad time to find herself in Frank Castle’s crosshairs! So when Gwen’s band the Mary Janes head to a haunted house, is she along for the fun…or will she become one of the ghosts? Thanksgiving should be a happy time with friends and family — unless crimelord Matt Murdock and his ninjas crash the party! Is it time for Gwen to put a stop to the Kingpin of Crime, or does Matt have a thing or two to teach her? Next, it’s Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales, sitting in a tree — K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Not one, but two Wolverines! The Captain America and She-Hulk of Earth-65! And the spectacular Spider-Ham! But what shocking development will change Spider-Gwen forever?!
David Jason Latour (b. 1977) is an American comic book artist and writer known for his work for Image, Dark Horse, Marvel and DC comics on titles such as Wolverine, Winter Soldier, Southern Bastards and Spider-Gwen.
So this collects volumes 2-4 of the original run plus the crossover with Miles Morales. I'm just not a huge fan of angsty Spider-Gwen. Sorry Jason Latour. Then there's all this nonsense with her losing her powers. To have that happen so soon after establishing herself as a character just rings false to me. She'd probably just give it up instead of making all these terrible decisions. The best issues are the ones written by Tom Taylor and Brian Michael Bendis. She's just a better character in other creator's hands. The art is fine. Rodriguez becomes a stronger artist after he leaves this book. Rico Renzi's garish colors makes this look like a sideshow funhouse. I hate the clashing colors in this so much. The whole thing gets a big "Meh" from me.
this continues to be a nice spin on the Spider-Man formula. it isn't the greatest comic I've read by any means, but it keeps me interested and I enjoy it on the whole.
