Emma Darcy is the pseudonym created by the married writing team of Wendy (1940-2020) and Frank Brennan (1936-1995). Their life journey has taken as many twists and turns as the characters in their stories, whose international popularity has resulted in over sixty-million book sales. With more than a hundred titles, Emma Darcy appeared regularly on the Waldenbooks bestseller lists in the U.S.A. and in the Nielson BookScan Top 100 chart in the U.K.
Wendy was born 28 November 1940 in Australia. Her sister was the novelist Maureen Mary (Miranda Lee). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. She obtained an Honours degree in Latin and initially worked as a high school English/French teacher. She married Frank Brennan, an Australian businessman born in 1936. She changed careers to computer programming before marriage and motherhood settled her into a community life. She was reputedly the first woman computer programmer in the southern hemisphere.
As voracious readers, the step to writing their own books seemed a natural progression and the challenge of creating exciting stories was soon highly addictive. They were published since 1983. In 1993, for the Emma Darcy pseudonym's 10th anniversary, they created the "Emma Darcy Award Contest" to encourage authors to finish their manuscripts. After the death of Frank Brennan in 1995, Wendy wrotes books on her own. She lived in a beachside property on the central coast of New South Wales, and liked to travel extensively to research settings and increase her experience of places and people.
Wendy Brennan passed away on December 21, 2020. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and sister, writer Miranda Lee.
"Traded To The Sheikh" is the story of Emily and Zageo.
Hmm..Nope.
Basically our H is an Arab Sheikh in Zanzibar. The h is "sold" to him by a thief, and he captures her- thinking of her as an accomplice and a belly dancer. She pleads her case- explaining that she is a diving instructor who was kidnapped while going to meet her sister- but with bare minimal attention to it, the H ignores it. He then dumps his mistress and tries to coerce h to bang him. He's not happy that she's a widow and keeps insulting her dead husband (who was her childhood sweetheart). What seems like a gazillion years later, the h is able to prove her truth after showing that her sister is in danger. The H retaliates by sexing up the h. Then I skimmed it. Tbh it was boring, had no chemistry as well as unlikable characters. I glazed over most of the last half- and don't know how it ends because I was annoyed.
I especially liked the hero in this book. He was arrogant and lovable. In the beginning heroine was so fierce and defiant but I felt gradually she lost some of her feistiness. Loved the setting and the story. Recommended.
*yawn* I love the whole idea of the heroine being a prisoner of a sheik and all that drama so I was actually excited to read this. However I was disappointed with this book. Emily's character was okay at the beginning but towards the end she came off as desperate which lost some points from me. The sheik's domineering act was unnecessary and it seemed like he lusted after not and not necessarily loved her. I didn't feel their chemistry at all. The time frame spanned over what? few days? few weeks? The entire thing felt a bit rushed. Not cool.
I only started to read this when I accidentally found the comic version of this book but the book is better than the comic version of course. You get the whole story instead of the highlighted part in the comic.
Well...I do like the chemistry between Zageo and Hannah. I've always love stories about Sheikh but I've read some of Emma Darcy's books and prefer The Wrong Mirror than this one even though The Wrong Mirror isn't about Sheikh.
liked it simple quick read, is it worth it yes it kind of reminds me of a historical romance novel being his captive because its kind of rear to read about captive and trade in modern romance novels
Sheikh Zageo bin Sultan Al Farrahn – an imposing name that exudes power and high expectations. It brings to mind a toga swathed, somewhat portly man, reclining in his tent upon a bed of pillows and being fed grapes by a mini-harem of scantily dressed women. And don’t forget that his camel is just outside the tent. But this sheikh, Zageo, is a product of the current times. He is tall, lean, and drop dead gorgeous. He prefers his string of luxury boutique hotels to a tent and when not ‘at home’ he dresses in shorts, t-shirts, and jeans. He is competent using his cell phone, a computer, and most modern technology.
Australian native Emily Ross is en route to Zimbabwe to meet her sister and her family. As a way to save herself some money she convinces a French trader to let her join his crew (she’s an accomplished sailor and diver). Instead, when faced with being caught, the trader abandons her and his boat in Zanzibar. Emily is caught trespassing on the sheikh’s property and brought before him. He is skeptical of her story and alas can’t continue to investigate because all public/government offices in Zanzibar and Australia are closed for the weekend. But conveniently, the hotel at which Emily is due to meet her sister is one he owns. What starts out as a mix up soon becomes fraught with danger as Emily’s brother-in-law is on the watch list of the Zimbabwe government and the family is under house arrest with threat of death. Zageo decides to do what he can but before he can tell Emily what he’s doing, she decides to trade her body for his help in freeing her family.
There are several scenes where each of the characters gave me hope that they wouldn’t be as flat or one-dimensional as some of Emma Darcy’s other characters. But true to form, each character seems to have only one redeeming trait as opposed to several character flaws. The action is a bit better than some her Ms. Darcy’s other books but I literally slogged my way through this one. There is the obligatory happily ever after so not too much concern.
This book grabbed me from start to finish, I felt like I was on a rollercoaster all the way and even the ending was a bit of a surprise but am so happy they got their happy ever after.
I loved the Sheikh and Emily journey together. They overcome all the obstacles that was standing in their way of finding love. Its a beautiful love story and ill share this book with family and friends.
I liked the book; it was well written. Only, towards the end, I found Emily to be too pathetic and desperate for my liking. It felt like she was begging for him to pick her and stay with her. The ending and HEA also felt rushed. Enjoyed reading regardless. 3 stars
Rilettura.
Will she succumb to the sheikh?Who dares trespass on Sheikh Zageo's palace on the exotic island of Zanzibar? Zageo demands that the intruder be brought before him! Emily Ross is appalled to find she's the sheikh's prisoner. To prove her innocence she needs Zageo's help. If the price is giving herself to him, then it's one she'll have to pay.…She gets drugged and made to sail a yacht for a drug runner. sheikh catches them on his island. She is trying to get to her sisters family who is in trouble in Africa. No Chemistry Terrible book.
