The Unsettling First Cry of Birth is a solidly written murder mystery novel by Takao Tsuchiya. At the beginning of the story, a 58 years old well respected doctor has already confessed to the rape and murder of a 20 years young woman and he actually begs to be brought into justice, but is there more hidden truth than what meets the eyes? The police officers have to find out.

The main mystery lays on *why* the doctor had to murder the young woman (who he barely knew before he killed her) and seriously his reasons aren't like anything you have possibly heard of before, I will leave it to you to find out.

作者運用犯人自白的敘事方式，一開始便把我引入犯人的情感、思路之中，以致與犯人久保伸也一樣，一同受到由美子的欺騙。應當認為，這樣的敘事方式是成功的。此外，僅僅一個生動的案例，便讓我遠離統計思維，體會到人工授精可能產生近親相姦的危險，有效的突顯了小說主題。這又是作品成功的地方。只是，拿到推理小說來衡量，它只有一個電話心理詭計，太沒趣了！
