Awesome story of a group of teenagers finding out about a secret held within each of them.

This a journey of finding out what really lives inside our characters and how they deal with the secrets they find out.

The author does a great job of spinning a tale and bringing the reader into the story.

This novel reminded me of THE IRON KING by Julie Kagawa on numerous occasions. However, it is not a copy, by any means. I enjoyed Wylie's take on the fantastical creatures we know as Faeries and Elves.

Kaeleigh has just turned eighteen, a girl just becoming a woman and still trying to find herself. She has always been a little bit different than everyone else, but not in a way that could easily be discerned, not even by herself. She soon finds out that not everything is what it seems, and her long time best friends are hiding things too.

Daegan is a Faerie, one taken in when he had no home, and one of the best warriors the tribe has. A possible threat reaches the ears of the leaders, and Daegan is given the mission to go find this new power and bring it back. His task proves to be harder than it originally sounded, because his emotions end up getting tangled every which way. His loyalty is tested, and well as some budding feelings for his charge.

SILENT ORCHIDS starts out with a bunch of interesting terminology and history being thrown at you. I felt I needed to take notes, all of the info bordered on what you might read in an epic fantasy. While it was all intriguing and fascinating, it could be a bit overwhelming so I was grateful we have our main character, Kaeleigh, learning things along with us!

Alandria, the realm that all these creatures preside in, is so rich in history and detail. I hope we get to see more of it in the next book because I loved how it was described in SILENT ORCHIDS. The world building in this was a major positive in my book.

This novel did not have the dreaded insta-love, but it did have the "gorgeous guy who stalks the main character but in reality really wants to help her" situation. This was really the main negative in SILENT ORCHIDS. While I did enjoy the banter between them and how naive Daegan was to the real world, I felt Kayleigh should have thought him more of a threat.

The ending seemed a bit abrupt, there is a definite cliffhanger. I am definitely itching to see what happens next, and I will definitely be reading the sequel. I recommend this to fans of fantasy and those who enjoy reading about the more whimsical creatures in fiction.

A young woman and her two best friends, like the Three Musketeers, through thick and thin have their bond and their relationships tested as Kaeleigh falls headlong into another world, another realm and becomes the most sought after being around. Finn and Chel have always known exactly how to be great friends, and when Kaeleigh yearns to discover who she is, where she came from and if she has family, they are there for her. When the startlingly handsome, Daegan begins to “stalk” Kaeleigh, she isn’t sure whether to be flattered or fearful. The revelations he tries to convey are beyond realistic, with talk of another realm called Alandria, where fairies, shifters and elves exist and the truth of Kaeleigh’s ancestory can be found. Job one, keep Kaeleigh safe, because she is s much more than human, she may be all that stands in the way of death for Alandria. Secrets are revealed, and the race for survival is making the final turn toward the finish. Who can Kaeleigh trust? Is anyone who they say they are?

Silent Orchids by Morgan Wylie has not re-invented the YA fantasy genre, but it does provide Ms. Wylie’s personal take on a world filled with folklore and magic. Delightfully entertaining, complete with a brief background of Alandria and a glossary of terms, everything else will fade away as one falls deeper into the magic of make believe lands. Wonderfully created characters come to life with real personalities and Morgan Wylie sends us on a journey through the wilds of another realm where danger can be hiding around any corner and four unlikely allies learn to put personal feelings aside for the good of the realm and the one person who may be able to save it. What can I say, I like well-written fantasies and this is definitely in that category!

I received this copy from Morgan Wylie in exchange for my honest review.

Another good fantasy series, but the main character - Kae got on my nerves time and time again with all her whining --- all the crying got to me too.

I feel bad for Finn and can't wait to find out what happens to all of the characters!

DNF after 50%

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. The blurb sounded interesting, but I personally didn’t enjoy the writing style and had a hard time getting into the story.

I would have preferred more dialogue instead of inner monologue, though I also found the dialogue quite cringe at times.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

Alternate world Alandria is experiencing a time of expectation; someone important is coming, the Sol-lumieth. The ruling Paladin Queen, Maleina, sends Daegon to bring the Sol-lumieth to her. Daegon doesn't trust Maleina but is bound to serve her. He goes through his world barrier in the mountains of Montana to the human world. Kaeleigh had been part of the foster system until at age 12 she was taken in by Chel and her parents. At about 14 they meet Finn and the three become inseparable friends. At 18 unusual things start happening. Daegon finds Kaeleigh and wants her to return to Alandria with him. Since she has been seeking answers as to who she is and Daegon offers a possible one, she decides to go with him. Her two friends are acting weirdly and are becoming secretive making her more confused. In the end they decide to accompany her. Thus begins their confusing and dangerous trip of discovery. One reason I gave this 2 stars is because of the amount of eye rolls and smirking; these being the only descriptive expressions this author seems to know. The connections between people in the Alandria world are either very confusing or not explained. The story ends abruptly, not after a climax or at a completed step in the journey but simply after a revelation that might typically end a chapter and much is left hanging. Will not pursue!

Story premise was interesting, the writing could use a very good editor. Unfortunately there is no true ending to the book. For further adventures in this story you have to purchase book two.

A little too ambitious causing the world-building to be muddled, which was compounded by head-hopping.

This book is packed full of mystery, secrets, and a dangerous fantasy adventure!
Kaeleigh knows nothing of where she comes from or who she is, and when she meets the mysterious Deagan, the chance for those answers is too much to resist. Finn and Chel, her best friends who have secrets of their own, come with her to keep her safe. The story was slower paced, a bit of a cliffhanger ending, and Kaeleigh ends up with more questions than answers, but I am excited to see where the next book takes us!

So I usually read books in a day or two, this book took me 5 days. In the beginning there wasn't much happening so it took me a while to get into it. Around the middle of the story I was more drawn in and I new I had to finish it right away, I got to the end and was mad it ended on such a cliffhanger. Also kept saying orchard instead of orchid which is hilarious 😂

This was book of the week for my book group and I got it free on amazon (not free in Canada at the time of review, but free on Kobo)and let me tell you, you need to get a copy cause you will enjoy yourself I know I did. This book was a fantastic tale of Faeries, Elves, Shifters, a dying land, and that lands last hope a young girl who is not what everyone expected but may just turn out to be exactly what they need. Now if that doesn't sound awesome then go away cause this review is not for you cause I loved it and I am about to rave about it.
I have read my fair share of Faerie stories some containing Elves and Shifters as well like this one but not all, most of the stories are the classic summer court, winter court thing and truth be told I am a little over it, but that's what is so great about this book it is not that at all it is it's own unique take, and no this is not the only one with the difference I have read and enjoyed others (Mark of the princess for example) but this this book is now in the top of my fantasy list because I love how much thought the author put into this world, it's history, and the history of the different races and creatures that live within the world. I feel like I only got a glimpse of what was and what may come to be and my only complaint is the amount of secrets, not that people had them cause everyone does but that they would not share, it made me frustrated but I hope when I read on in the series I get the answers I seek.
The love able group of four were easy to get attached to and root for, but I am also a little suspicious based on all the secrets and unknown factors. I am very curious about Kaeleigh and I feel for her, wanting to know who and what she is while also trying to keep faith in her loved ones that they have her best interests at heart. I love her spunk and bravery, I am as anxious as she is to find answers, with Fin, Chel, and Daegan to help her I think, no I know she will be safe if not stumbling along a bit on her way. Daegan that big sexy mystery I want to know what his deal is and why he is so connected to Kaeleigh, I'm not sure I totally trust him I know he wants to protect her but I can't stop thinking about the crazy Queen, I hope his feeling for Kaeleigh win. Fin may be moody and secretive but I think I like him more, I believe his motives and trust he will do his best to be a protector. Everyone needs a best friend like Chel and I can't wait to learn more about her past and her gifts.
I bought book two when I was 80% done this one, cause I knew I would have to continue on, so it's on to book two and as I do I hope people are picking up this one and starting this fun and exciting series.
Also I really must mention that I love love love this cover it is very beautiful.

What I liked: I really liked how Alandria's existence was explain in the beginning, so that we understood how and where it existed and that was honestly a pretty fascinating piece. Plus the author gave us a glossary of terms before the start of the book so that we knew a few things about Alandria going into it, something I was happy to see even though I never used it while reading it. Alandria itself proved over the course of the book that it has a rich, interesting history that I can't wait to learn more about in the next book as we learn more about it alongside Kaeleigh. Daegan is a character who I also liked, although for the first half of the book I tended to have mixed feelings about him because I wasn't so sure about him. I still have mixed feelings about him, but don't get me wrong I'm a little on the hopeful side that he'll help Kaeleigh through it all. I also liked how Kaeleigh's friends, Chel and Finn, were pulled into the story. They both had secrets that they didn't tell Kaeleigh, just like she didn't tell them something about herself. I also thought it was cool to see that Kaeleigh was still trying to find out who she is and what she wanted to do, because not everyone knows what they want to do when they're eighteen.

What I didn't like: I did have some problems with the writing style of the story. It just really didn't do it for me, leaving me feeling detached from the story for most of it even during the parts that should have had some emotional impact on me as I read about it. Yes, I thought "poor so-and-so" or "oh wow, that's awful" when something bad happened, but it wasn't...it didn't elicit an emotional response from me like I was hoping for.

Overall Review: Despite my lack of being able to connect with the story (and therefore the characters), I actually liked the overall story. It's not completely different, but the pieces that it brings in and the way the story uses some are different, although there were some pretty familiar tropes and such going on that I picked up on. They weren't all bad, so that was a bonus to me as I read it. The world building for this story was definitely my favorite part, as I learned more about Alandria and it's history the more intrigued about the world I became. I was certain that the author did pay plenty of attention to that portion of the book and I quite liked that.

Recommend?: Despite myself not being able to connect to the characters like I had hoped, I do think there will certainly be some of you who will enjoy this book.

4.5 stars.

For the first half I thought that the pace was to slow and I wanted more action. (I am an action girl, what can I say?) But after that things started to get better. In the first half many questions were created and some of them were answered. I hope in Veiled Shadows things will become more clear.

The end reminded me the end of an Tv series episode. Someone drops a bomb and then the credits appear or in this case the glossary. Yeap people this book has a glossary because the author used some terms for the kind of her characters and was kind enough to place them all together making it easier to find what a word meant in case you had forgotten it. Also before the story a part of Alandria's history is been told which I found really good. I had one less thing to worry about.

It's a rare thing but this time I noticed the author's writing and I liked it. I also liked the characters, maybe with the exception if Finn. Most of the characters had weird names or unuual. Daegan, Kaeleigh and Chel (is short for Chelsea?).

It's a good read for the lovers of YA, fantasy and paranormal books.

Morgan Wylie's debut novel, Silent Orchids is a fantasy adventure enthusiasts dream come true. It has everything including fantastic worlds, mystical beings and a rock solid quest busting at the seams with trials, tribulations and determination, the perfect recipe for an outstanding plot.
I loved the characters in this new fantasy journey and how the author developed each of them with care. Too often the secondary characters can fall by the wayside but Ms. Wylie realized how important each character's role was in this tale. I fell in love with all of them!
I also appreciate the beautiful descriptions and attention to detail the author used in describing this new and original fairy world. This is so important in good fantasy because it is the only ways the reader can imagine what isn't real.
I recommend this story for anyone that loves fantasy, action and adventure and paranormal romance. I give Silent Orchids 5 stars!

Love this story! Kaeleigh is such a cool girl that has adjusted well after being abandoned as a child. After all these years full of questions, she may be about to get the answers to her past whether she really wants them or not - along with several other surprises along the way. One of those surprises comes in the form of a tall, dark, and handsome (not to mention tedious and overbearing) stranger that seems to show up out of nowhere. Daegan is starting to question the rulers of his land and the work he is doing for them. His decisions over what to do about it may affect more lives than he realizes. Kaeleigh also has two loyal and fun friends that will follow her anywhere. As if Daegan doesn't cause enough turbulence on his own, now all four of them have to learn things about themselves and each other they may have never imagined. I'm excited for more this amazing story!

"Silent Orchids" by Morgan Wylie introduces readers to a realm teetering on the brink of darkness, where ancient evils stir and destinies intertwine in unexpected ways.

From the moment I began this journey into Alandria, I was captivated by the intricate world-building and the depth of the characters that Wylie has crafted. At its heart, the story revolves around Daegan, a noble warrior tasked with a crucial mission to uncover the Sol-lumieth, a power that holds the key to altering the fate of their imperiled realm. His journey is fraught with inner conflict and uncertainties, adding layers of intrigue as alliances shift and secrets unfold.

Equally compelling is Kaeleigh, a young woman yearning to uncover the truths of her mysterious past amidst the tranquil landscapes of Missoula, Montana. Her quest for identity takes a gripping turn when she joins forces with her loyal friends, Finn and Chel, each harboring secrets that bind them closer together.

Wylie expertly blends elements of fantasy with a touch of mystery and adventure, weaving together a narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The Orchids, silenced by a looming darkness, symbolize hope amidst looming despair, setting the stage for a high-stakes journey where every discovery brings both revelation and danger.

What struck me most about "Silent Orchids" is Wylie's ability to evoke a sense of wonder and danger simultaneously, drawing me deeper into a world where magic pulses beneath the surface and ancient prophecies loom large. The dynamics between characters are richly developed, their interactions infused with emotion and authenticity that resonate long after the last page is turned.

As the first book in The Age of Alandria series, "Silent Orchids" sets a compelling foundation for what promises to be an epic saga of courage, destiny, and the enduring power of hope. I eagerly anticipate delving further into Alandria's secrets and following the journeys of Daegan, Kaeleigh, and their allies as they navigate the shadows of a realm poised on the brink of transformation.

For fans of fantasy who crave both depth and adventure, "Silent Orchids" is a must-read that promises an exhilarating ride through a world where darkness and light collide, and where the true meaning of heroism is waiting to be discovered. Morgan Wylie's debut captivates with its blend of magic, mystery, and heart, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this enthralling series.

I am left with more questions than answers

This book is the first in the series and at the end you are left hanging but not in a life or death moment. The author takes time in this book to build a realm parallel to our world. We are introduced to key players and given a back story. Through multiple povs we are introduced to characters and the story develops. After reading this book, mystery still shrouds the characters, We are given just enough to pull us in and entice us to want to know more. It seems each character has to make a choice that will ultimately impact their worlds. It is a constant question of trust for each character, even from those they think they know. I liked the writing and complexity of the characters. So far, the plot has been engaging with several moments of danger. I look forward to the next book.

Kaeleigh Johnson is a typical teenager until she finds out everything she knows is not what it seems including her friends. Daegan Waethni is a faerie and a warrior who goes on a mission to find a new power to bring back to his tribe. Kaeleigh and her friends Finn Talain and Chel Marzen go on a journey to find out who she really is and where she came from. Kaeleigh discovers she is from Alandria a realm where faeries, elves and shifters reside created by the Originators known as The Orchids. Kaeleigh is the key for survival of her race and she must find out what she needs to do to keep her race from ceasing to exist. I really enjoyed this fantastic young adult fantasy novel.

A shame

Main character comes across as weak, petulant and spoilt. The basis for the story is brilliant, execution pretty flawed. Some mystery is good to make you want to read the next book, but no explaination at all about all the many mysteries is irritating. The characters are unlikable and the plot confusing in many parts. The writer's way of unfolding the story meant i didnt give up reading as it is very well written, dialogue is great, its a shame, could if been an amazing book from a talented writer if so much hadnt been unexplained

Silent Orchids is the first book in The Age of Alandria series, and it had me hooked from page 1! A unique take on the YA Fantasy Adventures we all read and love, I was blown away by the intricate world building of this first book. The character each had their own interesting development that added an extra element of intrigue to the tale. I am extremely interested to what is next for Kaeleigh, her friends, Daegan and this dying realm. We have only scratched the surface in book 1, so I am so ready to dive into book 2!

*It's the old 'lost princess/chosen one' trope.

*It had potential. The conflict was laid out: the evil entity that drives the darkness plus opportunistic people who took the reins.

*But it just fell flat where Kaeleigh was concerned. Plus that weird connection with Daegan (but he's been sent by the bad gal, so he's really conflicted with himself with doing the right thing) and what-the-fuck-is-going-on-with-all-this-static-electricity.

What happens when you find the truth out about yourself? Kaeleigh is eighteen years old and trying to figure out who she is. Her friends are also not who she thought they were. Can she take on what they want her to do and save them all? Daegan is a faerie warrior that his tribe has sent out to find out what the new power is. Can he find the Sol-lumeith? What will he do when he does?.

I read this book as a part of the Love. magic. Adrenaline! Collection.
Right up my alley - this book has it all. A little bit of love (triangle, even), a different realm and magic!! Really well written, though at times there were some grammatical errors, it didn’t effect the story.
Love the characters and world building. A very strong start to a series that I hope to continue.

Excellent story

The story is just getting started in this book. The world building and back stories are the main feature of this book. With that being said there is still plenty of action, drama, and mystery to go around. I can’t help but compare it to epic fantasies such as Tolkien and Donaldson have written. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Loved it

The story is an almost predictable but not quite. That doesn’t take away from how well written and attention grabbing it is. The characters are great...all their interpersonal relationships evolved slowly and it felt like I was evolving with them 😉. I’m absolutely going to read the entire series... gotta find out how the guy gets the gal...

Wonderful read

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be the last. From the world building to the group of main characters, this book was a wonderful beginning to a series. Even with the book's ending being a total cliffhanger, I really enjoyed the story. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This is the first book in a series and is the perfect start.
It introduces the main characters and shows us a little about each one, and gives us a glimpse of the world lore. The world building is interesting and the journey these friends are about to undertake will test them like nothing else before.
