In the sequel to Wanderlust, the graduate student Shea finds himself discouraged by the colorless routine of his daily life in the wake of his brief rendezvous with the sarcastic, passionate wanderer Jamie. Distracted from his studies and longing for Jamie's company as he fends off the unwanted advances of a friend, Shea finds that his deepest wishes come true when Jamie drops by for an unannounced visit.
The two of them indulge their passion for each other and find themselves falling in love, but the consequences of their closeness threaten to unsettle both their lives: Jamie must confront his restlessness and his own solitary nature, and Shea--faced with a career-making opportunity--must make a decision about the course his life will ultimately take. Together, Jamie and Shea struggle to preserve their new and precious bond even when circumstances, and their own choices, threaten to pull them apart.
An idyllic weekend with Jamie leaves Shea's life feeling empty and purposeless. A knock on his door brings Shea out of his funk, Jamie is there to visit. Breaking all of his rules, Jamie lowers his guard and begins to feel comfortable. This was a nice, sweet sequel to Wanderlust as the two young lovers hit the road together.
Book 1, Wanderlust, was good. 'Threshold' was powerfully great. It hit hard and deep, and it ended in an unexpected but wonderful (non cliff-hangy) way. It's left me hoping there will be a book 3 so I can continue along side Shea and Jamie's journey.
Shea returns back to his picket-fence life after a life-changing experience in the cabin where Jamie made him evaluate everything. Shea finds the return eye-opening, realizing that perhaps Jamie was right about Shea's sterile existence being empty and meaningless. Just when Shea begins to miss Jamie to the point of bitterness, Jamie shows up on his doorstep. Jamie is just as surprised by where his feet (and heart) led him as Shea. What follows has Jamie asking hard questions about himself, and Shea making a decision that could flip both their lives upside down.
Everything about the way this novella was written felt raw - but in that good way that leaves your chest aching slightly as you read it, and your eyes fighting between slowing down to read each important, beautiful word, and speeding up in a desperate desire to find out what happens. Loved every page, wishing for more.
An amazingly well written sequel that fills in many of the gaps Wanderlust contained. Filled with gripping and complex emotions, a joyful reunion, steamy love scenes and two young men who are just meant to be. This story is one you will want to hold with both hands while reading or the raw honesty could carry you away. This story does contain adult themes that, while not offensive or disturbing, may not be suitable for those readers looking for a sweet and simple romance. Threshold is life and love experienced at its authentic best. I highly recommend you read Wanderlust first as it contains an intro essential to this continuing story line. This could be the end for these two characters... but I'd love to read more!
