The CHESS HEROES project provides training books for players of all ages interested in graduating to adult competitive chess. Richard believes that instructional material aimed at lower levels should use cumulative, step-by-step learning presented with clarity of explanation.
This Chess Heroes Puzzles Book 1 is aimed at students rated about 1000-1500, and at teachers working at that level. It comprises 440 puzzles taken from games played at the highly successful Richmond Junior Chess Club over a 30 year period. The book is designed to teach chess thinking skills, developing not just the student's breadth and depth of chess vision but also the ability to avoid oversights and miscalculations. The book is structured, unlike most tactics books, by the type of thinking required to find the best move.
