A Yank in the RN!!
Alexander Cherry was a Wall Street banker living in New York when he decided to do his bit while America was still neutral and join the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as an officer. He wrote this account shortly after the war and what you find in these pages is a humorous take on his service mostly in the Battle of the Atlantic on small ships, where he focuses mostly on the traditions of the service and life in the wardroom with his fellow officers. It is an entertaining read of an American who joined the less glamourous service (versus the RAF) in a very unforgiving theatre.
