Trey Stone #1

Hunting the Midnight Shark

Rate this book
Trey Stone's work for the CIA always went undetected. Often the deaths were blamed on other nations - or factions within a nation - never had they been traced back to him.

One phone call spun his life around and drew him into a very dark and deeply personal war.

This book is a fast-paced International/CIA/Thriller genre novel introducing you to the twisted world of child trafficking.

If you like Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, David Baldacci, Nelson DeMille, or Rober Ludlum, you will love Conrad Brasso!

If you liked the television series '24', or like reading thrillers with words like CIA, sniper team, black ops, and international ... then this is the book for you! Brasso definitely knows about pacing - I could not put this down. But the book surprised me - in a good way - not just with an entrapping plot and characters that I loved, but with a moral issue that left me deep in thought. I couldn't get the book out of my head.

Trey Stone is a CIA sniper and a member of a select group of agents specializing in eliminating individuals. Whether the death was rigged to look natural, staged as a suicide, or carried out as a hit from a direct sniper kill, these agents could make it look like a particular person had done the killing or even a specific nation.

I LOVE GLOBAL THRILLERS LIKE THIS! Bring on the sequel!!

When I opened up the package for this read, I was taken on the cover of this hardback. Beautiful, quality cover on this book. Inside is a "cannot stop reading book". I was hooked on this CIA thriller. This should be on the list to read for 2014. WOW, I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next.

I recieved a signed copy from the author and Goodreads. HURRAY!

I don't believe in giving 5 stars unless it is beyond exceptional. Having said that, I admit to enjoying this book enormously and I intend to read the follow-on books by this author. Plenty of action and even when there is no action the storytelling is such that it keeps your attention riveted. Attention to detail shows that the author does thorough research and is knowledgeable about the localities and technology which are a part of the story. I must add that it is so refreshing to read a book that does not once find a reason to resort to profanities, blasphemy and explicit sex, as so many books, TV series and movies do these days. This would suggest an author with strict religious convictions regarding moral standards and decency but at no stage is there even a hint of it becoming an imposition. The characters are very real but I could have done with a little less weeping and sobbing by characters that are portrayed as super-tough. If I were to have just one criticism it would be that the good guys are just that little bit too nice and the bad guys are a little too bad. I heartily recommend this book.

Terrific Read

I started this book with little expectation of anything truly different from what I had been reading previously. However I was happily surprised at how good it was. The storyline was very relevant in today's world, where human trafficking is on the rise and little seems to be done to combat it by those who should be at the forefront of the battle. The plot included a surprise twist that I didn't see coming at all. I was slightly disappointed at the rather sudden finale because I felt that two of the main antagonists should have had their respective demises given a more extensive and graphic description, given the nature of their heinous activities. Overall, I became very engaged in this story and I'm really looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Great read!

Great action. Great characters. Nice details on equipment & weapons. Like that the emphasis is on the story & character development rather than getting into over-detailed sex or excessive swearing.

Breathtakingly believable

Fast moving tale of good versus evil. The government trained good defenders again a huge consortium of human traffickers. You get so immersed in the action you feel you are part of it. Tragedy and joy make it so believable.

Prepare for Constant Adrenalin Rush!

Action, mystery and a ton of mixed emotions don't let up from the first page to the last! Although sometimes a bit complex, the plot is easy to follow through the masterfully created evil criminal trails! Super enjiyabke!

Good read but too many characters and sometimes confusing. Agent Stone's family are kidnapped and he assembles a team of agents to rescue them lots and lots of high tech equipment.

Conrad Brasso's debut novel is a brilliant 5-star-read from start to finish! It has all the ingredients a fan of this genre could hope for and yet offers so much more!

A real badass as the protagonist, A great twisted plot, breath-taking action scenes, due to Mr Brasso's vivid and detailed writing style, plus a lot of suspense and drama. Additionally the author has obviously put a great amount of research in the technology, the places and the cultures, mentioned in his book, in order to make everything feel as realistic as possible! The gadgets however had a hunch of Science Fiction at some times, but they were pretty cool nonetheless!

But if I had to pinpoint what makes this read so special, I would clearly say the characters are! Mr Brasso did an exeptional job in giving each and everyone of our heroes their on backstories and motivations, which alloed them to be not only the typical stereotypes but real, likable persons instead! I also loved the dynamic in the team and especially the character of Michiko Iamada!

I can't wait for Mr Brasso to finisch the next one, which will be titled "Braving the Emerald Wasp"!

**I won this book through Goodreads First Reads giveaway. In no way has this influenced my rating or opinion of this book. Thank you to Goodreads and to Conrad Brasso for the opportunity and the signed copy!**

Let me start by saying that I truly believe this book should be made into a movie! It was that intense and that thrilling and that exciting! Brasso kept it fast paced and had many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book from beginning to end. There was no boring parts to this book at all. I even read the few pages at the end that are part of the sequel to this book and will be adding this author to my list of favorites and look forward to his other books!

Captivating

He made the book realistic with the deaths of some key people and a twisting changing plot. All in all a very good read.
