Tom Nash must choose between saving the world and saving his son. Twelve years ago, the former Marine and successful business owner watched helplessly as Earth was taken over by extra terrestrials. The Blobs, as they've been dubbed, rarely interfere with human affairs. That changes when they inexplicably demand the evacuation of Tom's small hometown in the mountains of North Carolina. The announcement enflames a panic across the globe. Is this the first phase of a more Draconian occupation? What's more, it incites a battle between government agents and a group of resistance fighters over a secret plan that either could destroy the Blobs or mankind. Tom isn't sure how to react. Prior to the announcement, he struggled with questions involving his troubled relationships with his wife and two teenage children, his disatisfaction with his job, and whether he should have an affair with the owner of a local restaurant. Now, however, he must decide whether he should allow his son to risk death by joining the resistance or side with the government and risk dooming humanity to perpetual servitude.
