Break Me is the second book in Amanda Heath’s Make or Break series. It can be read as a standalone.
“Wes, I don’t know what you want me to say here.” Royal’s voice is broken. Maybe he is broken. Maybe I broke him. Lord knows I’m broken myself. “Don’t say anything,” I start off with. There are so many things I want to tell him. The one thing I want him to know, that I want him, I will never say aloud. “When push comes to shove Royal, you’ll break me. I’d never be the same after you. I’d be a shell of this girl.” His face pales but he doesn’t step away. Something I had planned on. His hands caress my face before he says, “You have that wrong, Wesley. You’ll be the one to break me.”
Wesley Bridges was lost between the living and the dead. She was clinging to her boyfriend, who passed away unexpectedly. She was left with having no way to move on. Her best friends, Annabella and Pierce were too caught up in each other to save her. Even her family turned a blind eye, not able to bear her grief.
Then one day, Royal Sanders walked into her life. Tall, dark and sinfully handsome, but aren’t all the unattainable ones? At first it was nothing. She was asked to tutor him and found he’s different than even she thought. She even turned to Royal when things got too hard. And when she falls for him, she falls hard.
But Royal’s the enemy. A long drawn out hatred brews between her friends and Royal’s. That doesn’t seem important to her, considering she’s still in love with her dead boyfriend. A love triangle between life and death…who will win?
Grief is a powerful emotion but there are several different kinds of grief. Betrayal and heartache are still knocking on her door. Things are about to come crashing down around her. It will definitely break her, but will Royal be enough to save her?
I live in southern Arkansas with my husband and young daughter. There is also an insane Boston Terrier running around. I've always been a lone wolf and find my friends in books. I started writing at a young age and I haven't stopped since. Most days you can find me either glued to my laptop or my kindle. My first novel, This Beautiful Thing was an Amazon best seller for 11 weeks and a year later I'm still tickled to see people enjoy it. I may not be a huge seller but I have the best fans ever and I thank God everyday for every single one of them.
Damn it!!!! This end was having an unexpected turn!!!! Holy shit!!! I want so bad to find out all about it!!!
That book was actually so good, but in the most part of it was a little bit sad...
Wesley's boyfriend died after a tragical accident and that left her heartbreaken... She was no longer a happy and shiny girl, but a shadow of her old shelf... Until Royal steps in her life and messed her up!!! He was the only one who get her and helped her, but that scared the hell out of her!!! And tried to keep him out of her life...
In this book, we found out a different Royal than the first book... I can't lie!!! I liked this side of him but i prefered him in the first book... Here was more serious and more determined... It wasn't bad but he wasn't cute and funny anymore... And in one point, he broke my heart!!!
Once again i enjoyed the other guys also but i can't really talk about them until the next book!!! Sorry!!!! And now i stop because i have to run.... I have to found out what happens next!!!
Nice read .... This is the second book in this series ... Wesley and Royal's story ... The story begins with tragic lost of Wesley's boyfriend who was killed by a drunken driver ... After that Wesley is lost, she grieves, she shuts herself ... Her friends Anabelle and Pierce(who is also her cousin) distance themselves from her ... they do not know how to act around her ... Then Royal enters, the most handsome guy in the school ... Wesley has assignment to tutor him in World English ...
Slowly he stole a part of her heart that belonged to her late boyfriend ... he was there when her best friends were not ... when she was down, lost in her grief ...
Now Wesley doesn't know how to put past and her love for Trey to rest ... she is torn between two loves ...
This story is also full of teenage drama ... while reading it, I always had picture of One Tree Hill in my head ...
It was a great read, but the first book in this series was better ... Next one is Pierce's story ... bring it on ... ;)
Well after reading book 1 I couldn't wait for book 2. It was a good read it was kind of slow at the start and at places I wanted to grab hold of wes and shake her to tell her to see what was in front of her but then when you actually got in her head and saw what had happened my heart broke for her and definitely royal too as he just wanted to be the guy for her and he was so sweet about it too. Looking forward to book three now hope it good too xx
So let's just say that this book was a huge, insanely huge, improvement from the first book. The first book had a stream lack of emotion to it. However this book was a massive improvement. It was not without its issues. There were times where the author messed up simple things like its versus it's. And so forth. But I was able to figure out what she was trying to say in my head.
Stop being said, oh my god. Is that ending. Holy shit. Or as I used to say as a child, holy shit, batman.
All through the entire story I cried. I have been in that position. So I understood her pain. Hell I still feel it, I mean my own experience. And then the relationships developing around her. I never liked annabella. God I even hate her name. But it was so sad. And the way that she treated the brothers. Anytime that there is a girl between two brothers, and it's not a porn, is a bad bad recipe for disaster. Or a good one if you really want to look at it that way. And then rachel? Oh my god. That's all I can say. You guys should read this book, it's a good one. It's kind of freaky. And the thing is is I've seen that happen. I've seen it all happen. So this should be interesting. All right time for the next book.

6 stunning, wonderful, heartwarming stars. I usually write my favorite quotes of a book in its review, but right now I can't. I would have to re-write all of Royal's letter to Wesley, and everything he said to her when they were together. Royal says in his letter that he doesn't have pretty words, but I think he does... There is just something about him, he is strong but sweet, he loves with all his heart and he's not afraid of saying it. I think he's brave - I think they both are - and that's what makes their couple so beautiful and pure. I definitely just found my new book boyfriend - and maybe my favorite of all time. Royal is just perfection.
"You make it so easy to love you."
(Now, that being said, I found my second favorite book boyfriend in this book : Pierce! And I can't wait for his book. I'm literally DYING to read about him and Rachel !!)
Long awaited review! This series is one I visited much in all the time that's past when I've read it. I didn't know it all exactly but it came back while reading!
I still enjoyed it as much as I did then, but now I've read so so much and some things irritated me. But that's only because I've read so much.
I really likes Wesley she is so strong even though she didn't feel like that. I found her incredibly strong! But it can only go for so long until you break and than it's important you are surrounded and supported.
Royal I liked him in the first book, he was funny and also broken. Perfect fit for Wesley! I loved how he remembered the little things about her, because they are indeed very important! It made it all so special and sweet!
Today was the day my mom died last year so I'm going through a dark place myself. So I had it very hard during these days and this book even though it's totally different brought it all back so much!
I have read all of Amanda Heath’s books, and this is the second I read in the Make or Break series. At the end of book 1, I was excited to see that Royal and Wesley would be getting a book. Amanda Heath did not disappoint. We got to see Paisley and Channing from book 1 (YEAH I LOVE CHANNING) and we got to see Ashley, Rachel, Pierce and Annabelle (BEOTCH).
Wesley lost the love of her life at 18 years old (Trey). She is alone. Her best friend Annabelle has been shutting her out and her cousin/best friend Pierce is too busy with Annabelle to notice that Wes is slowly slipping into a deep depression. Your hearts breaks for Annabelle because everyone expects her to move on and no one could understand what it felt like to lose your best friend, your lover and your life at such a young age. Even her family did not see how lost Wes was.
This takes place in high school and it is strange because they are divided into 2 groups. Each group does not like the other one. Seeing as Annabelle and Pierce are too caught up in themselves, Wes starts to see things differently. Wesley’s history teacher asks her to help Royal with his work, because he will fail and not graduate. Through this time together the two develop a friendship that is so refreshing and caring.
“You’re not my boss.”
“Right Duchess.”
“Excuse me?”
“I called you Duchess. Do you have a problem with pet names? Or are you one of those girls who think pet names are stupid.”
It was fun to see Wesley and Royal’s relationship grow gradually. They became friends and were able to lean on each other, during this rough time in Wesley’s life. Royal became a constant fixture for Wes and gave her a reason to continue. The banter was also funny as hell.
“I bet you did. But you’re not getting in my pants.”
“If I wanted in your pants, Wes, I’d have been there already.”
As a reader you will fall in love with Royal. He knows Wesley is going through something but he’s her shoulder, a chest and a bed to cry on. Never asking questions but just being there for her when no one else would.
“One of these days, Wes, you’re going to have to talk about whatever is f**king with your head. You can’t keep it all bottled up in there, you’re liable to blow the f**k up.”
“Good. Then I won’t have to deal with this bulls*it.”
“You can push me all you want, girl, but I’m not going to run. I have a twin sister. I know how you teenage girls work. I won’t let you shrivel up and die Wesley. I’m here for you. Remember that always.”
Overtime Wesley and Royal become more than friends, Royal was told what has Wesley depressed and instead of walking away, because how can you compete with a dead boyfriend? He all but spells it out to Wesley. Wesley is still scared but she also knows that Royal has helped her move on and she is willing to take a chance.
“Channing told me about Trey. If you only want me as a friend, then that’s okay with me. I’ve always known how hot you are; I’ve just never thought you could be sexy too.”
“When push comes to shove Royal, you’ll break me. I’d never be the same after you. I’d be a shell of a girl.”
“You have that wrong, Wesley. You’ll be the one to break me.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about. I couldn’t break anyone.”
“I don’t want to hurt you either, Wes. I just want you to try. Try for me.”
This was not a quick BAM I love you relationship this was gradual, intense and beautiful to read. When Wesley finally sees that she can love again and not betray Trey, there is no stopping the pair. It gets hot, steamy and erotic.
“I want you. Please.”
“Thank God. F**k me, you are gorgeous.”
“Oh God.”
“You are so f**king tight. Come, Wesley. Come all over me, I want to feel it.”
This relationship is not easy because of the split in groups, and when you hear the reason it makes no sense. Annabelle I really cannot stand her. For being Wesley’s “best friend,” she was unsupportive and vindictive and is only out for herself. I also had a hard time with her cousin Pierce. He was her cousin and in her darkest hour he left her alone. You will love Royal, his friends and sister. They gave Wesley the love and support she needed during this rough time in her life and never cared about the issue between the groups. I was happy with the ending and cannot wait for the next book in this series Save Me (Make or Break, #3) as it will be Pierce and Rachel’s story. Plus, the ending of book 2 was a WTF?
I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Okay its really weird how I'm enjoying the shit outta this series. This is really awesome. You know whenever I find a new series that is really good its hallelujah for me. Like The forbidden men by Linda cage. Rosemary beach by Abbi Glines. So many others... And this Make or Break is my new fav. I love all the characters. They are just cool awesome.
I love Wesley. Yes, the heroine's name is Wesley, sort of wierd at the beginning but you get used to it. But regardless of her name she was the bomb...!!! I really don't know a grieving person can have such a wicked sense of humour that has me laughing my ass off..!! She really was a spitfire. And she fit so perfectly with Royal that their bond was just magical. I really love how the author portrayed her love for Trey. Now, I've read a couple of books in dead boyfriend but I don't think anything anyone has mourned them so realistically as Wesley. She was a breath of fresh air.. When most authors tend to make such heroines self destructive, Wesley was just struggling with a chance. Stuck between death and life....
And did I mention I love the way she rips a new one to that Bitch Annabella...!!! I love that scene where she asks pierce to pull over... God my stomach hurt laughing there....!! ;);)
And now Royal... Where do u want me to start... I loved the hell outta that guy. He kinda reminded me of Oren Tenning, Rome Archer and all my other awesome book bfs. I liked Channing in Make Me. But I loved Royal's charm more and couldn't wait for his book...!
You know at first its weird how Royal fall so intensely and quickly for Wesley... I mean she is pretty awesome but that fast was a little bizarre. But as you read their story you understand Royal's feelings for Wes and you can't help but adore the love they have. He was so beautifully wrapped up in Wes that brought tears to my eyes. He was this vibrant essence full of life that drags Wes out of her darkness.
And that Love Letter... Hmmm I lovvvved that. It was one of the best I've ever read..!! Go Royal.. !!
This book was just pretty goodness wrapped up in a tight bundle. It was really a memorable read that I'm pretty sure will be reminiscing for long.. !
And then there were their gang of friends that I loved so much. Bentley rocked...!! I think I just want a little brother like him....:(.. ;) I think I cried when Wes whispers Bentley is the only reason she's still alive...!! :(
And Pierce and Annabella really need to get their head outta their asses. I hated them a little when they left my poor Wes all alone. But, I feel for Pierce for what he went through. A part of my brain was glad with glee that he deserved it but the other half wanted to hunt the Bitch down...!! Can't wait to read his and Rachel's story ..!!
So I just gotta say.. I loved this book way more than I expected.. It was in one word beautiful. I loved all the ditty datty bits of this book...!! A must read...!! I don't care what genre you prefer.. Read This Series...!!!
So honestly this book is full of drama and angst and teens behaving like adults- adults that barely featur in said teens lives. Oh don't loads of hot sexed up teens who are loaded and have loads of sex. Add to that the clique politics , the out there relations to each other and all the bitchy crap you can think of. And you know what, honestly, I still *looks around and whispers* liked it. Shhh. Do not tell my real life friends I did. Because uhm, they think I am all posh and dignified (seriously one of my friends told me that the other day... Clearly she doesn't know what I read!) and so way above gossipy shit. They also think I mostly read classics and stuff like that. Apparently I am not. *smirks* The thing is it is freakn entertaining. It's your I feel like a juicy yet cute and fluffy fix. It's more hot and fluffy I guess. On top of that, I kinda liked the MCs. Though at first look they all shallow sexed up rich kids, they kinda reveal more depths as the books go on. Not to forget the boys are haawwt. The smut is good. The story line is way out there, we talk super dramatics. But I enjoyed the ride. So basically while you read it, it's seriously entertaining. Then when you done- don't think about too much. Because well, there are many many things one could point out, that are so overtop that they are kinda ridiculous. But see I didn't want a book I would think about. I was tired from a hectic work schedule and all I wanted is being entertained. And entertained I was! So if you looking for depth or seriously good writing, fabulous character building- well this isn't your book. No, this is a book, that is purely entertaining- in fact it's so entertaining that it got me wanting more. You know like that series, that everybody watched. The one that's ridiculously over the top, full of super hot sexed-up and bitchy characters?
Yep, exactly that one. Well, for me it's more Revenges. Either way, we all have that book or series, we love despite the fact that we know is a bit questionable at times- but we still watch/read it religiously...
Well simply put this is my guilty pleasure. And hell yeah I am so reading the next one. Especially after that freakn cliffy. I always liked Pierce. So a book about him? hmm I am AAAALLLL over that. Well at least when it will be finally released that it.... *runs to amazon to pre-order* But whatever you do, don't tell my RL friends. Remember dignified? LOL! - well, let them think that if it makes them happy ;)
Wes is in a state of depression. Her boyfriend was killed by a drunk driver and she still hasn't been able to get over it after six months. Her cousin and best friend Pierce is not comfortable with emotions, so he hasn't been much help to Wes. Her other best friend Annabella is too self-absorbed to see that her friend is wasting away.
Royal needs a world history tutor. If he fails history, he'll get kicked off the swim team and his father won't pay for Juilliard. Royal doesn't really have the best history with women. He's athletic, devastatingly handsome, and rich.
Wes and Royal develop a friendship because they understand what it's like to be lonely. Royal's parents barely come home, much less pay any attention to him and his twin sister Rachel. Wes' so called friends aren't there for her when she needs them. They were bound to be friends, but it turns into something more. Wes was doing well and moving on with Royal when she finds something that destroys her all over again.
I love that Royal tried so hard to win Wes' heart. Wes loves reading historical romances, so what does Royal do? He courts her.
He wrote her a letter. That letter was beautiful.
I thought he couldn't top the letter, but he proved me wrong with the songs. He sang to her every night for two weeks.
I loved almost everything about this book except Annabella. I liked her in the first book because I thought she was kinda nice, but I hate her now. She's manipulative, insensitive, and so freakin selfish it's unbelievable. I never want to read about her again, but I have a feeling she's going to have a big role in the third book. I'm super excited for the third book, but highly disappointed with the choices of who I think will be the main characters. I'm guessing there will be more drama because of the big revelations at the end of Break Me!
This book deals with grief. There are different types and levels of grief: grief after losing your parents, grief you feel for a family member who is going through rough times or a heartbreak, and the grief of mourning the death of the person you love.
In this particular case, our main character Wesley is grieving the death of her high school boyfriend. This is not an ordinary love. This was a great first love where they had been friends since very young, they were each others first kiss, first times that made their love unique. Trey's death by a drunk driver hit and run, is devastating to Wes. She is heartbroken and quietly sinks into a depression and breakdown unnoticed by her family and friends. When they finally realize what is happening they rally to help Wes and seek help for her before it is too late.
But life dictates that we must heal and move on. It is either that or we are forever stuck in the suffering phase and living in despair. Our story focuses on relationships, friendships and intimate times that become important in living life and moving on.
As a whole, I liked this book. My only concerns with deal with the overabundance of angst and situations that are repetitious. I would have preferred for the editor to have used his/her scalpel more and make this story flow a little smoother.
Parenting takes a hit in this book. None of the parents are depicted as caring or particularly efficient in the art of parenting. Parents who just lost their child are rather callous in moving on and getting rid of their son's personal items. Parents who are so absent from the home, they literally do not realize their daughter is deeply depressed, losing weight and finally has a breakdown. Parents who are so involved with dealing with their own issues staying away from home and unable to recognize their children are lonely and unloved and in need of the nurturing a parent must supply.
If you are a fan of young adult romances you will probably enjoy this book. Please note, in my opinion, this book is for an audience 17 years old and up. Younger audiences should not be subjected to some of the scenes in this book because would be too mature for them to handle.
Wesley and Royal.. LOVED! I am sure lately I sound like I am stuck on repeat , but here is the thing. I love Amanda Heath. I enjoy her stories and getting involved with her characters. They intertwine and cross over into the lives of each other. It is a delicious web this fabulous lady weaves.
Now on to Wesley and Royal. One Wesley is just wonderful. I loved her. She is smart and beautiful. She is struggling with some big things, huge and nobody should have to deal with her life. I felt her - cried with her - cried for her - screamed at her triumphs and felt her struggles. I wanted to be her friend and stand right by her side! She was that relatable and I just loved every page of her story.
Royal he is so not at all what you think and such a don't judge a book by the cover. I loved how he loved his sister and how even though he seems to be one thing, in reality he is so much more. One thing or one person sometimes can be the thing that changes it for you. You never know and sometimes it hits you out of no place at all. He is gorgeous and a ladies man - just so much more. It was nice watching the layers of this man be peeled away.
Life can suck, life can be sad and yet sometimes we arise from the darkest places better. This story takes you on an emotional roller coaster of pure heartbreak and healing. I was in awe of the strength that they had and the tenacity to keep going. Can a broken heart be healed with the love of another? Sometimes it is not enough to love, sometimes it is... Is it enough here? You must read and find out. Once again Ms. Heath does it, she guts me and makes me whole. She breaks me down and builds me up. It is beautiful torture. I cannot wait until the next one. Bravo - Bravo - Bravo!!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Holy wookiness Barman!! Drama, tragedy, tears, heartache, lots of swooning & heart throbbing moments. I am so in love with Channing and Royal! I went back and reread Make Me before I started Break Me because who wouldn't want more of Channing & Paisley's story!
Break Me is book 2 of the series and this story is about Wesley Bridges and Royal Sanders. Wes just lost her boyfriend from a drunk driver 6 months prior and going through her loss takes her through a really though battle that she is barely able to bear her own grief.
She returns to school and is asked to tutor Royal Sanders. Did I mention, he was tall, dark, gorgeous and on the HS Swim Team? Wes and Royal become very close but the closer they get, things begin to fall apart as well. You see, Royal is the enemy from her cousin/best friend Courtney Pierce and Annabella. Wes decides that isn't as important but she cannot seem to get over her late boyfriend Trey.
Wes goes through betrayal and her emotions pull her to where it finally breaks her but will Royal be enough for her heard to mend back together? A love triangle between life and death...who will win?
"If I had looked back I would have seen that I woke him up. I would have seen my future in his eyes. I would have also seen that I started something that would break me." ~~ Wes
Wesley had it hard. The love of her life was taken from her and life as she knows it has crumbled around her. And the kicker, she's not even 18. So much hurt for such a young girl and she's fighting for something she knows she cant have.
I thought this book was a very cute but an angsty filled book. The whole situation with Wesley and Trey and then with Royal. So sad and heart breaking. Wesley was losing herself and thanks to Royal she's coming around. But then something else comes up and Wesley has her feet kicked out from under her.
I did however have a hard time with these young kids thinking they loved each other, unconditionally, irrevocably. They are so young and they are prepossessing their love like they know the meaning and maybe they do. I just have a hard time thinking they have any clue what love is all about.
4.5 whahoooo book hangover I stayed up all night to read this beauty!!! Loves it so much!!! Omg the ending the ending.. Mind fuck!!!! I need to talk about this one Amanda Heath you girl are amazing x love this series!!!
You can always tell how emotionally attached I get to a book based off the playlist I create with it... considering the playlist is flooded, it's safe to say I felt connected to the characters and the story. I really liked the first book in the series but I think this one beat it. Having to deal with love and death at such a young age is a scary topic to think about. Wesley is going through grief and depression, and while it would be easy to write her character as one that was able to move on and live life quickly after, Amanda Heath does a great job at showing how grief isn't that easy to maneuver. Grief can can linger and spike up at random times, only time support and acceptance allows you to heal. --- Wesley hasn't recovered since the sudden death of her boyfriend. It's been six months and all she's managed to do is exist; she barely eats sleeps and keeps everyone at bay. But living in her head to keep her late boyfriend's memory alive, isn't living at all. Tutoring the enemy, Royal Sanders, although a distraction, could cause a riff in her family. But the riff was never Wesley's fight. After spending time with Royal, Wesley doesn't feel as alone. The neglect and lack of support she felt from her best friends and the pain she was still feeling, didn't pack as heavy of a punch when she was able to let go with Royal. When she realizes her feeling happy is letting go of dead boyfriend, and finds a piece of him that once again turns her world upside down, Wesley can't handle her new reality. Royal is way out of his element with Wesley. The player has fallen, HARD, but he wasn't aware that he was going to have to be competing for the girl of his dreams. That battle is a little hard to win when the competition is no longer living.

I totally love this relationship and all of its dynamics between Royal and Wesley. I have to say more than Channing and Paisley. Now, don't get me wrong, I love C&P but R&W is so much more...how do I say it... more there? more real? The efforts and struggles that they go through are not easy for anyone. I love the realness and rawness of Wesley and by default the effects it has on Royal. But SERIOUSLY! Can I find me a Royal Duke Sanders?! If you've read the first book then you know how it is with C&P, it's a different sort of relationship dynamic from R&W. However, I felt that with R&W I could easily empathize with them, individually and as a couple. Their relationship grows more throughout the book than with C&P in their book in my opinion. Love Rachel, hate Annabella (what a beezy!), and Courtney makes me want to throw a punch!
I can think of 9 words to describe this book: Emotional. Death. Grief. Healing. Love. Healing. Life. Surprises/shockers! This book and this series is awesome. I'm so glad that book 3 is already done and I don't have to wait or I'd likely pull my hair out. I have GOT to see what happens next. Seriously... you never know! That's the great thing about this author... expect the unexpected! LOVE IT!
Oh! AND... Wesley and Channing? On my BBF list as of NOW. I know someone else who's already on the list but I'm not saying just in case it may spoil something for you... READ THIS SERIES!
This book is super emotional!! It drew me in from the beginning because it made me feel truly heart broken for Wes and it made it all the better to read how Royal is the one that snaps her out of it and is there, I couldn't put this book down, I'd recommend reading with a box of tissues, I can't wait to read the next book in the series <3
This is a big meh to me. I mean, I understand everything, but Wesley is too wishy-washy. And if you tell me it was only 6 months after her boyfriend died, I am going to tell you that if she really loved him so much she wouldn’t have fallen in love with Royal!
