Rate this book
Livia Chadwick is a photographer by day and a self-proclaimed rock-n-roll junkie by night. Her dating life is a lackluster parade of evasive jerks and her boss is an unrelenting nightmare of a human being.
What else can a girl do but rent a beach house with her girlfriends and blow off a little steam every weekend? But hey, she’s from Jersey. Barhopping down the shore all season is sort of mandatory.
All is going according to plan… until she meets Jack.

Jack Tanner is a contractor-turned-musician in a small-town cover band suddenly thrust into the limelight. He’s already had enough of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, and groupies have never been his thing. Then again… there’s a gorgeous brunette in the audience tonight, checking him out with the most incredible green eyes he’s ever seen.

She's looking for a fling.
He's looking for forever.

It’s gonna be one helluva summer.

Set in the summer of 1995, DOWN THE SHORE takes the reader on a tour through some of the Jersey shore’s hottest hot spots over one, sleepless, flannel-clad summer.
It’s a look back to a time when the music was groundbreaking, the rock clubs were king, and bar bands ruled the world.

“She’s looking for a fling. He’s looking for forever. It’s gonna be one helluva summer.”

Unfortunately for me, Down the Shore went downhill really fast. It had some great positives though, which really stood out in the first portion of the book and made me think this rock and roll romantic comedy might just be a winner. I liked that the rockstar aspect was different from what’s usually been done: the hero isn’t a manwhore and doesn’t have an entourage of groupies nor an inflated ego. The heroine is strong-minded and together, they really made a great pair. Great banter, nostalgic, humorous references (the story takes place in the ‘90s), and palpable sexual tension. Everything else...not so hot, which is sad to say since I adored this author’s Remember When trilogy.

“I’ll save you a lot of trouble right now and let you in on a little secret: there’s no such thing as happily ever after.”

Can you tell Livia is a cynic? The story basically has reverse gender roles. Instead of the hero being a manwhore, you have a heroine who’s a complete and total rock slut. Right off the bat, I immediately disliked Livia, not because she slept around with practically every musician she’s attracted to, but her attitude that’s supposed to relay cool and emotionally calm just rubbed me the wrong way. She was the definition of unapproachable to me, and I felt sorry for the hero who fell hard and wanted to be ’the one’ for her.

On top of that, one of my biggest book peeves is when a heroine is clearly interested and is falling (or already fell) for the hero, only to continuously deny the attraction, send out hot and cold signals, and basically drag the entire story out. The hero Jack wasn’t totally innocent either; he kept refusing anything beyond kissing with Livia just to show he’s interested in more than just sex, but at sudden points throughout the book he drags Livia to the nearest wall/closet/room/etc...and proceeds to maul her. Between the two of them, I honestly don’t know who sent out more mixed signals. What I do know is that I’m sick of it. Sick, sick, SICK of their back and forth shit.

And now I get to the biggest problem of all I had with this book that knocked it down to 2 stars. In short, the last 25% of the book gets 0 stars from me. Aside from his random bursts of passion that frustrated both Livia and me, Jack is overall a really great hero. Thoughtful and attentive which is why when he makes such a DOUCHE move in the final quarter of the book it officially lands him on the DOUCHENUGGET list. It’s not cheating if you were wondering, but what he did was just asking for trouble. And then having this issue resolved through a weak time gap and even weaker explanations given made my blood boil. While the characters were rejoicing I was internally screaming in frustration.

I honestly would not recommend this book but I would never discourage anyone from reading it either, so if you were interested before, don’t let my one negative opinion deter you away from it. I just happen to have a bunch of odd, quirky things that’ll bug me if I read it in a book and unfortunately for this book, it had every one of those pet peeves so of course it didn’t work out for me. While I’m still a fan of this author, this book – in my opinion – is not her best.

Down the Shore is a rock and roll romantic comedy standalone.

4 (A little hesitant) Stars.

Livia is a girl who loves music and just want to enjoy life and have a good time. That good time usually includes the stars from the music that she loves.
Enters Jack, he’s not your usual rock star: he’s not in it for the fame or for the groupies. However, when he sees Livia in his audience he knows he has to have her. He also knows that she would gladly want him back… for one night. And he don't want one night, he wants forever.
During the summer, Jack will do everything to prove Livia that she doesn't need anyone else but him. Could Jack be the rock star who will finally win Livia’s musical heart?

description

This book had every potential to be an amazing read… and for the first 70% it was. Extremely well written, addictive, funny, with a great music background, an awesome 90’s scenario and a hot, sexy couple thrown in the middle. I was completely sucked by this book and I was loving every moment of it.
Then the last 30% came and it was a completely ruining factor for me. I didn't understand why that happened and why there was such a big time gap in the middle. It was well explained which had a good part on me still enjoying the end, but still not enough to fall in love with it again.
However, not everyone will have the same problem as me, so please don't hold back because of it.
If you like romantic comedies with a musical background, you have to give this book a try.

Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: Livia is a kickass heroine. She is spunky, sassy and just want to have a good time. So if you hate groupies who love rock-stars, you’ll probably hate her. She really did a lot of growing up towards the end and it was nice to see. Jack was really sweet and the way he dealt with Livia to show her that he wasn't “just another rock star”, was amazing. He was caring, sexy and impossible not to like. Even when he had the most asshole attitude of all time, I eventually forgave him. The chemistry between them was off the charts, they were great together!

3.5-4 Stars

Down the Shore is a super fun, romance story about a rock groupie and her rock star. The story is set in 90’s and the majority of the story takes place over one summer at the Jersey Shore.

Just to be clear: If the band sucks...we don’t.

Liv isn’t like most heroines we read about. She grew up the daughter of a musician she has no illusions of faithfulness and makes no excuses for her no commitment stance on relationships. Liv is a super fun character, her one-liners and had me laughing out loud. The more I got to know her the more understood and liked her.

"OH, you’re a real man-eater, aren’t you? My mother warned me about girls like you."

Jack is a rock star, sort of, he is actually a talented musician aspiring to be a contractor. He is completely unexpected. For starters, he is talented and love music, but his real love is building homes. Second, Jack isn’t looking for a good time, he is looking for forever. I really liked Jack, I like that he didn’t fit the mold of guys we normal read about.

The physical attraction between Jack and Liv is instant. Liv is interested in hooking up, but Jack wants to date Liv and get to know her. They compromise and decide to go on 10 dates. I loved the connection they built during this short time. I enjoyed the originality of each character and plot, and I really loved the build up between Jack and Liv.

As you can see this isn’t your typical romance or rock star story line. Like the characters the story is very unique and well written. There are not a lot of authors who make me actually laugh out loud. I actually highlighted some of the playful jabs to use with my friends - benefits of reading, people think you are funnier than you are.

Just an example: “Oh, it was a joke. Not a cock. Don’t take it so hard.

Unfortunately, some of my love for this story wavered towards the end. I know our stories need drama to intrigue and engage us, but in my opinion the drama at the end was unnecessary. Especially, when we learn the truth behind everything. In my opinion, the drama took a fun, sexy read and caused me to get unnecessarily frustrated with the characters. Now, don’t get me wrong I did enjoy this story. I just wish somethings had been different. These things may not bother most readers and part of me taking it so hard I believe has to do with how much love I have for Jack and Liv. So overall I do recommend this one!

4 Move-over-Trip Wiley-I've-got-a-new-man-now stars

Unless You've been hibernating under a rock for the last 3 years, there's probably a high chance you've already met and fallen in love with Trip & Layla in the author's Remember When series. And I can assure you,as a fan of both T.Torrest and the Rock-star gene,This book is just waiting to cast its spell on you too.

Down the Shore is a breezy summer read, full of chemistry and tons of fun as we watch Livia and her gang make the most out of their summer while Jack Tanner and his band slowly rise to fame.

All the season pale in comparison to the excitement and freedom of summer. It's the one time of the year when I can cut loose and feel like a kid again. Before the responsibilities, before the soul crushing pressure of trying to figure out my future.I can forget my crappy job;I can forget about my even crappier love life.

Summer is my superpower.

My Thoughts: I'm being totally honest here, when I say,I throughly enjoyed their journey to the very end. This book stays light and breezy up to the last 30% of the book after which you have the inevitable drama that comes with every relationship you have on earth....BUT please note, it is nothing like the unrequited love and the Angst we go through in Remember When .The problem starts and solves itself before the end.And yes,you ARE reading me right. There is NO CLIFFY ;)

Now about the Characters: Livia & Jack are both, pretty lovable characters.Especially Livia, she's such a cool-cat,I can't help but give her a place in my Kick-ass-heroines shelf with the rest of my best.

description

Their chemistry,over-all was pretty sizzling. As a couple they were both, very out-going and laid-back,as in you still get to see and experience all lot of beach parties with friends and gigs as their relationship progresses.I thinks that's one of my favorite facts of the book. They actually have a life out of each-other and still manage to balance time between their friends & each-other.

And Holy Shit ! He is so bad.He is such a dirty, dirty man in between sheets. (Livia's words not mine !) But I promise you at times..He defiantly can be sweet too.

"I was waiting for you before I even met you.And finally, one night, there you were. With your green witchy green eyes and your perfect, pouty mouth."

"Why me ?"I manage to squeak out.
"I don't know lips. From that first minute with you,it was.."
"Electric?".I offer. It's the word I always use whenever I think about the effect he has on me that night.

"Yes that's exactly it."

Would I recommend it ?
Defiantly ! Especially if your in need of something Light,Flirty & Fun ;)

Will I be reading the squeal ?
I'm pretty sure this book is meant to be a stand-alone for these two...But if the series continue, then sure.

Any warnings ?
LOL.YES ! If you are a real music fan,Get ready to fall in love with all the music reference our heroine makes.

And if your NOT a fan of Insta-Love...Give this book a chance lovelies,Who knows ? It just might end up surprising you in the end :)

FOUR SUMMER LOVE STARS.

She's looking for a fling. He's looking for forever. It’s gonna be one helluva summer.

description

T Torrest is the queen of a nostalgic romance. I can always be assured that when I jump into one of her novels that I'll be smiling ear to ear with memories of years gone by. After reading the 'remember when series' (highly recommended) I was over the moon to have the opportunity to read and review the latest release from this author. From beginning to end I couldn't help but be thrown into the 90's beach vibe that this novel provides and once again this author proved to me exactly why I get exited about her work.

What's it all about?
Take one bar hopping, laid back college student who is only looking for a good time and one aspiring Rock god who's more than ready to say goodbye to his bad boy persona. Add into the mix a summer filled with sunbathing, shenanigans and plenty of 90's style partying and you get all the right ingredients for a hot summer romance. Of course love doesn't always follow the easy path, Jack Tanner has got a lot to prove if he wants to win over the heart of the only girl he's ever been truly interested in. Readers welcome to 'Down the shore'.

description

What did I Love?
I really enjoyed the 'feel' of this book, the story is set by the sunny coast with a light hearted party atmosphere and happy go lucky vibe. Nothing makes me enjoy a book more than when I'm being tossed into somewhere totally different from my day to day surroundings. I also loved that this book had quirky themes; a bad boy rock star who wants to settle down and a flighty party girl who just wants to have some summer fun. There was definitely plenty of sexual tension and those readers who like their new adult books to turn up the heat won't be disappointed. All in all I loved reading about Jack and Livia, I was entertained, amused and of course T Torrest provided a lovely romance that left me with a huge case of the book butterflies. Who can resist an opposites who attract story line with plenty of sunshine and smiles? Definitely not me. Bring on more releases from the author I'm already not so patiently waiting.

Why not five?
As much as I like the obligatory 75 to 85% conflict that most of my romance books encompass I did find myself a little frustrated with what I felt was unnecessary drama. I wanted my beloved characters to do that little thing that's called communication. (But don't worry it all works out in the end). However, let's not be too dismayed, I still love this author and this book was just the summer loving treat that I was looking for. Not entirely epic but totally enjoyable nevertheless. Would I recommend? Of course I would, T Torrest is an author that I'll always be on the look out for.

Final thoughts ...
Need a quick, hot, sexy new adult book to sweep you away back to the 90's? Feeling a little nostalgic and want to remember what it felt like to first fall in love? Or do you love those party beach reads that you can't help but smile at? Then this book fellow readers will be just the book for you. I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading this novel and I have to admit I was a little sad to say good bye to Jack Tanner and his green eyed twinkle but I'm happy that this standalone gave me a few hours of a loved up escape. Go grab it readers, enjoy ... Kisses.

I was insanely excited for this book. I love T. Torrest Remember series and I will read anything this woman writes! When I first started this book, I had the hugest smile on my face. I loved most everything about the first half. It was funny, sexy and fresh.

Livia is not looking for love. She’s looking for a good time. She’s a young carefree girl who loves music and tends to go after musicians. When she meets Jack, she knows she wants him, but he has other plans…
“Who says I’m looking for anything more than that to come out of this?”

“Who says I’m not?”

 photo 66b9dd4a-a49e-4a0b-a653-02bc42be56ac_zpswn9jsxp7.jpg

Liv and Jack have a bargain of sorts, an arrangement. They go on a certain amount of dates before they go all the way. Jack likes Liv. He actually wants to get to know her. He doesn’t want a one time fun thing and never see her again. This is new to Liv. She’s not sure what to think of Jack. He’s gorgeous, talented, everything she’s ever wanted in a man. But is he enough to change her mind about love? About dating a musician?

He’s not only beautiful, but charming and thoughtful, funny and intelligent. He’s the complete pacakage. He’s everything a girl could want in a man. He’s everything I want in a man.

 photo 31137f7f-2641-4f81-a1a7-4622ec8a38e3_zpsfledvksn.jpg

The sexual chemistry and tension in this book was off the charts high. And I love the writing, the spunk of the main character and the sexy/swoony-ness of the other. So why not 5 stars? Well, I did have some difficulty with the last 30%. That being said, it could have just been me. And it didn’t complete take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. If you’re looking for a fun read about friendship, music and love that takes place in seedy bars and sandy beaches this might just be the read for you. It was highly entertaining <3

The Remember When series by T Torrest is one of my favorite series and this book is loosely connected to those books. I would gladly read anything that T Torrest writes and devoured Down the Shore in one sitting.

Livia is a refreshing heroine - she loves 'em and leaves 'em and is not at all interested in settling down or committing to a serious relationship. She spends her summer nights going to local bars and listening to bands with her friends, having flings with hot musicians and partying on the weekends.

Just to be clear: If the band sucks...we don’t.

Jack is a local musician by night and contractor by day. He's sexy and irresistible and is actually looking for a lasting relationship. Livia is wildly attracted to him and is somewhat confused by his attitude but agrees to play along with his way of doing things. What follows next is a light, funny, sexy, fast-paced book that is unexpected and filled with great banter and a nostalgic look back at the 90's.

Livia has her reasons for not getting involved with musicians, which made her actions believable. She is a very likable heroine and I loved the the fact that she was the one looking for a one-night stand. Jack isn’t like most rock star characters, and I fell in love with him from the very beginning. The chemistry between these two is fantastic and the supporting characters are hilarious. There are tons of funny one-liners in this book and the author perfectly captured the feelings of nostalgia, friendship and falling in love.

The ending felt a little rushed for me but did not detract from my overall enjoyment of this book and my love for this author! Pick this one up when you are looking for a funny, warm, sexy and fast-paced rock-star book that's packed with tons of pop-culture references and loads of nostalgia.

I liked this one, but I didn't love it. I loved the first half, but the second half fell a bit flat for me. As usual with T Torrest I loved the musical references throughout the book and the different take on a rock star book was refreshing. I loved the main characters in the beginning but towards the end I found it hard to understand what was going through their heads. After such a fantastic build up to their relationship I was hoping that both of them would not have fallen foul for the old "miscommunication" trap. (full review to come)

Livia is a groupie - she loves music and loves to show her appreciation for a good musical performance by having sex with musicians. Jack is a band but isn't looking for a groupie and when he meets Liv, he knows he wants something more. This book was laugh-out-loud funny, had great 90's references and had a fun group of supporting characters. I really enjoyed this story. There was a little drama but mostly, I found this book to be light-hearted and fun. This is the first book I have read by this author and can't wait to read more.

**This book was provided by NetGalley for my review and enjoyment.

You'll like this book if: You're down with the '90's and all things club life. (That's all of us, right?!?)

THE STORY: Livia is a self proclaimed rock whore, a "born and bread, unapologetic lover of all things musical." Along with her BFF Tess, they spend their free time covering the Jersey band scene... and getting up close and personal with the band members. Summer break approaches, and Liv, Tess, sister Vix and two other friends head to the shore. On the very first night, they hear the Thunderjugs perform. Liv is immediately smitten with dark, rugged musician Jack Tanner in a way she's never been before. She feels electricity... she's over-the-moon for this grey eyed dude... and as always, she's ready for a hookup with him. What Liv doesn't foresee is that her 'rock star GOD' is a man that wants more than one night with another groupie- he wants Liv to be shown the respect she deserves. (SWOON!)Upon Jack's admission, Liv immediately feels exposed of the emptiness that has become her world. Making the leap to an honest lady will prove a difficult road for Liv and Jack. What's meant to be, will be, despite mistakes and selfishness and two imperfect individuals trying to find their way.

MY THOUGHTS: Witty, hysterical and sometimes over the top writing style that literally had me laughing out loud. I adore all the '90's references, and completely appreciate this author helping me to relive my high school years. Well, not that I hooked up with random band guys or anything... but the music and other mentions were perfect. (think: Monica Gellar and Pearl Jam!)The only reason for the 3 stars is I felt it was too wordy. I think the same great story line could have been accomplished in half the amount of pages. Still though, and enjoyable and fun read!

This was a fun, lighthearted read perfect for the readers that love to reminisce about everything they loved about the nineties, and love to indulge in a romance steeped in rock and roll. Sweet, sexy, angsty at the end and enjoyable. I particularly loved the angsty parts... the conflict... right before the happy ever after. Great beach read.

This book has a whole lot of potential, but somehow misses the mark. Up until about 75% of the way through it, I was planning on giving it 2 stars and was feeling like that would be somewhat generous.

Livia is completely unbearable in the first half of of the novel. She comes off as so obnoxious and smug I could barely stand it. She's so sure that she knows everything about music and that she's totally hot and that her group of friends is the coolest and that sleeping with rockstars is the greatest. You won't get any slut shaming from me, but the way this character was presented made me want to reach into the book and wring her neck. Just stop, Livia, with the 8,000 90's references. One every page was WAYYYYY too much. Livia was like that annoying friend your significant other has that wants you to know how cool they are so they constantly name drop. Knock it off!

The novel seems to lack plot for the first 70% or so. It all kind of starts up suddenly when Jack decides that Livia is the one (for pretty much no reason. Because she's hot, I guess.) and then revolves solely around their encounters. And honestly, it's a little boring. I would have liked to have seen a little more of Livia's life without Jack in order to get to know her as a character more (and maybe not hate her so much). I hate to say it, but it was almost like the author knew where she was going and didn't know how to get there. The main conflict comes out of NOWHERE and seems completely inexplicable until it's explained at a much later time. However, I've got to give Torrest credit because the last 25% of the book (conflict and resolution) really redeemed it for me. I was on the edge of my seat with my heart beating out of my chest wanting to know what was going to happen with Jack and Livia. It was so excruciating that I almost had to stop reading because I just couldn't take the stress. The last quarter of the book was awesome and brought up to a strong 3 instead of a weak 2.

As far as supporting characters go, we didn't really get to know any of them, but from what we did see, they had a lot of potential. I'd like to read more about this whole crew so mayyybbeeee we're looking at a series here? I'm especially interested in Tess's story because from what was here, she's pretty much the same character as Lisa DeSantos. I had a hard time not inserting her into the story. The Tess I remember from Remember When didn't come off as having a heart of gold like this one did. I had a hard time reconciling the two. I'd like to get "Tess's side" of the story so that all of that is a little more clear.

I don't have an English degree and I'm not usually a grammar nerd, but some of the sentence structure in the novel was very strange. I would read it, be like hold up and then have to rearrange the words in my head before I could move on. There were also numerous misspellings. These 2 things did not factor into my review AT ALL because I am aware that this is an ARC and may still need to go to an editor, but I did feel it was worth mentioning.

Overall, I think this is a decent novel that a lot of people are going to really like. I think it does have some issues that keep it from really being a GREAT read, but I did somewhat enjoy it even if I wasn't totally satisfied. I think readers without any previous exposure to Torrest's work will be more likely to love it than current fans. Down the Shore is not nearly the novel Remember When is (only the first one. I like to pretend the two sequels don't exist) but is a close second. If Torrest was to expand on her character development and take some time to flesh out beginning and middle of the story a little more thoroughly then she would have a 5 star novel on her hands.

One more note: at 3% into the book Livia tells her friend, "We were so gay!" I almost closed the book and DNF'd it right then. I don't care if the book takes place in 1995 and we were all less concerned with who we were hurting when we said hateful things, it's 2015 and gay slurs shouldn't be in books. Unacceptable. THIS SHOULD BE REMOVED before publication.

4.5 smooches!

I get all giddy when I start reading a T. Torrest book. It's like the feeling of coming home. In my house sarcasm is the first language... From my husband all the way down to my three year old. T.T's characters feel like family. I get them. I think like them. They make me laugh and I fall in love almost instantly.

"She's looking for a fling
He's looking for forever"

Normally it is the opposite. I loved Livia! Like I crazy loved this girl. She doesn't take life to seriously. She enjoys bands and sex and she indulges in both... simultaneously!

Jack is over it and ready to settle down. He refuses to just be a one time thing with Livia and it causes some tension.

"I don't date musicians."

"And I don't fuck groupies"

"First of all, I'm not a groupie. I'm a music-loving girl who knows how to say 'thank you' properly.

Secondly, you're not fooling anyone with this chivalry bit. You're a red-blooded male with a working cock that rose to the occasion the second my lips hit yours.

Thirdly... Since you don't fuck 'groupies,' feel free to go fuck yourself."

^BOOM, you go girl!

That pretty much sums up the dynamic and is probably why I LOVED the female lead more than the male. She took on the roll of aggressor and he was the needy one. It was a refreshingly different approach and I mostly loved it! The reason for the 4.5 over 5 stars is because I had a hard time with how Jack handled a certain situation, that I can't mention without spoiling the book. I really wanted to smack him at that point and again it is probably just due to the roll reversal bc I could totally see a girl overreacting in such a way and it not being a big deal.. but he was the man so it did bug me a little. Hypocrite much? Probably! LOL

And I feel bad bc I did Beta read this book, however I didn't finish in time to give my feedback before the book was sent out.. I am not even sure that anything would have changed but I failed my task and I suck!

Despite that instance, this book is fantastic! TT is one of those dependable authors. She puts her all into her work and it shows. Down The Shore is well written, funny, and entertaining. If you are in the mood for a little less drama and a feel good romantic comedy, you wont be disappointed!

Another new author to me and another pleasant surprise. T Torrest tells a wonderful story in Down The Shore which was both captivating and entertaining and re-awakened memories through it’s soundtrack to life in the 90s.

This book tells the story of Liv and her friends who head to the Jersey shore to enjoy the delights of summer. What she didn’t expect to find there was Jack Tanner. Jack is in a band and is immediately attracted to Liv. Liv is a groupie who doesn’t hesitate to get together with band members but Jack feels something immediately for Liv and won’t allow her to throw herself in his direction. Instead of offers her abstinence and a new experience of relationships and their ups and downs.

Their relationship progresses with each getting to know each other better and before long Jack realises that Liv is the girl for him, but does Liv feel the same way?

This was a fun read which had comical moments alongside the inevitable pull on your heartstrings. It was a well written and balanced story set alongside music of the 90s. I would recommend this as a great summer read although it would easily be enjoyed any time of the year.

First I have to say I am a child of the 80s and 90s, so this book along with Ms. Torrest's Remember When strike a happy reminiscent chord for me with all the music and pop culture references of those times. DTS is a fun, light, romantic comedy although it does have its moments of angst to balance out the happy.

Liv grew up with a dad who always wanted to make it big, but his band missed their chance at a big break and now they play small festivals and weddings. Although she had a pretty cool childhood by most standards, she feels like she missed out a few of the more normal things you experience in school by traveling so much, and her dad's past actions have caused her to question men in general at times. At 23, she has no real clue what she wants to do with her life but she enjoys the music scene and attends as many shows as possible with her best friend and wing woman Tess. She shows her appreciation for a great show to the musicians but isn't a groupie in the sense she is in it to have fun for one night only without trying to sink her claws in for more.

Jack Tanner is the rock star that will send her world off its axis. He is gorgeous and talented but he shocks her when he refuses her attempts to "show her appreciation". Slightly humiliated, she reacts badly but he isn't going to let her off the hook so easily. He is definitely interested but is sick of the one night stands- he wants more from life and thinks she could be it after spending some time talking with her. He has an uncanny ability to see right through her and it scares the hell out of her.

"A rock star is the very type of guy that would put me most at risk for getting burned. If I don’t feel anything more than attraction for them, if I can split before they get a chance to fuck me over… they can’t hurt me."

After some persuasion and a bit of chasing, he gets her to agree to a bargain of sorts. They will go on 10 dates before they have sex for the first time. Although Liv is more than apprehensive, she agrees with the thought that she can change his mind only to discover along the way that his plan may actually be evil genius at work.

Over the course of the summer they have fun on their dates, they get under each other's skin, and they come close to crossing the line more times than I can count until they finally reach their limit and get to the good stuff. Their group of friends and family are a blast and they all spend the summer being young and carefree with a few amusing encounters mixed in along the way. But as I mentioned above, it is not all fun and games. Jack's ex girlfriend is a troublemaking bitch, the band gets noticed by folks in high places with connections, and the past finds a way to interfere in the present. Then we have a complete failure to communicate between them that just throws everything into chaos between them. Remember the angst part I mentioned earlier? Yeah we reached it!

I have to say Liv frustrated me beyond reason at times with the way she lived in her own head and couldn't articulate her feelings, but Jack didn't always help the situation and her reactions were understandable. Jack was mostly pure yum factor for me despite his moments but I think Liv's twin sister Vix said it best when trying to give Liv a little perspective.

"He made a mistake, Liv. So did you. Surprise, he’s not perfect. I think you’re being too hard on him for falling off that pedestal you put him on a year ago. You’ve practically been... vilifying him for it every day since."

Fortunately the pieces start falling into place after that and they really start talking to each other instead of dancing around each other. Ms. Torrest provides a wonderful epilogue and glimpse into the next book featuring Liv's friend/ employer Shana where it appears we will see more of this wonderful couple! Overall I thought Down the Shore had a great mix of emotions and feels and was a great read. I will end with 2 last quotes that made me giggle as I was reading.

"My heart starts hammering in my chest as I realize I am somewhere between simple attraction and the high that would come from freebasing ground unicorn hooves. Why isn’t there a word for that? That limbo stage between like and… something more."

"The sight of him without a shirt on is enough to force my silence as I gape at him in awe. It surprises me every time. EV-er-y time. I mean, the man has a body a statue would envy. That chest. Those abs. Lord help me, he looks like a mythical god, and the view knocks the wind right out of me. I feel like I’ve just been hit.
In the vagina.
With a sledgehammer.
Swung by The Mighty Thor himself."

**Review for Wicked Women Book Blog. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from this book after reading the disclaimer. However, I had already decided I liked the author whether or not I ended up liking the book. Luckily, I fell in love with the story!

“Summer is my superpower.” ~ Livie The story follows Jack and Livia through the summer of 1995. Jack is a construction worker/up and coming rock star, and Livia is a 23 year old photographer still trying to find her place in this world. They meet one unforgettable night during the summer of 1995 at one of Jack’s gigs. That night Jack and Livia make and “arrangement” that puts them both to the ultimate test. Will they be able to stick to their arrangement? Will they cave? Will something else interfere? Throughout the story we are embark on a crazy ride with these two addictive characters.

The main characters, as well as the supporting characters, were very highly developed. Torrest wrote extremely hilarious and witty scenes for her characters. I found myself cracking up at some of the conversations they had. I also enjoyed reading the banter between Livie and her friends. One wonderful talent that Torrest has is the ability to have you laughing one minute, crying the next and then swooning the next. One of my favorite scenes in the book:

“We’re here, in this dilapidated old kitchen with its dark wood paneling, faded yellow cabinets, and crusty linoleum floor. And right here is the most beautiful place on Earth and the only place I want to be. Because I’m dancing in the arms of the most incredible man I’ve ever met in my life.”

There are some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, towards the end of the book. I found my hart racing, and I couldn’t put the book down until I knew what happened. Torrest uses just the right amount of angst, tension, and drama to keep you turning the pages.

One of the things I absolutely loved about this book was the time setting of 1995. Torrest weaves a lot of music from that time, and also classic rock songs. It was so much fun to hear these songs in my head as I was reading the book. I also liked that this story took place at a time before smart phones and before we were so dependent on technology. I loved it when Jack would get “paged” and have to use the *gasp* land line to call someone. This is how I remember life being. It was completely refreshing to experience this way of life through a book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in the mood for a fun, refreshing love story. You didn’t have to grow up in the 90s to appreciate this book!

**TARA'S 4 JERSEY GIRL FLASHBACK STAR REVIEW**

In 1995 I was a 21 year old Jersey living the dream, weekends were spent driving down the Parkway, getting all gussied up and drinking way more than I probably should have.

This book was like a giant flashback to the good old days, when beers were cheap, guidos were plentiful, and every weekend was filled with music, lust and laughter.

Fame isn't something Jack is looking for, but being in a very high profile local band, his goals are long term, and music really doesn't fit the big picture.

He sets his sights on Livia, a future, and living the dream he sees for himself. Everything doesn't always go as smoothly as Jack would have liked.

This book has a little bit of everything, angst, love, lust, amazing sex scenes, comedy and references to some pretty amazing music.

Now don't get me wrong, you don't have to have been to the Jersey Shore to follow the book, it will easily immerse you in the "Jersey Shore" world. It will make you wish you had been there though.

Overall, this was a quick, fun read that I really enjoyed.

3.5- 4 stars.

ARC received via publisher on netgalley in return for an honest review

This is the perfect day at the beach read. It takes place during the mid 90's in New Jersey during the summer. We have Livia who loves rock stars and loves to pretty much bang them once and move on. Until she meets Jack. He's in a local band that are in the process of making a name for themselves. She meets him at one of his gigs. They really hit it off. Jack is trying to show her he doesn't want to be just a fling for her. He proposes they have 10 dates before they even think about sleeping together. Livia hates that idea and pretty much ignores him for a while after that but Jack doesn't give up. He finally wears her down and they start dating. Music is very much a part of this book and there is even a playlist via a spotify link the author has provided the reader to listen to as you read.

I enjoyed this book. I liked Jack a lot. He was goofy, laidback and only had eyes for Livia. I had trouble connecting to Livia at times. Jack was in the process of making it fairly big in the music business and she just assumed he would ask her to go on tour with them. I didn't understand that. She was willing to leave everything behind at home for a guy she had only been with a short time. And with all her trust issues she had with guys, I didn't think it went with her character.

There is a huge misunderstanding towards the end that made me stabby. Anyone that knows me, knows I can't stand miscommunication in my books. It's just my personal preference. I know not all couples have great communication but this one could have saved lots of time with a simple conversation.

I liked the musical aspect in this book. I listened to the playlist while reading and I must say, I had forgotten a ton of great songs from the 90's. This has a great summer vibe to it. I thought it was perfect as it's currently warming up where I live and made me feel like I was on the beach with the characters.

I thought this was a really fun read. I really enjoyed Livia's character a lot because she's not the typical "damaged" or "weak" girl. She knows exactly what she wants and she's not afraid to show it. While obviously being a happy romance book, it still doesn't have the feel of a typical romance novel. I enjoyed it a lot, and ended up reading it in 2 days! lol

This book is definitely a cute fun romantic comedy for anyone but if u live on the jersey shore it's even more! I lived Liv and Jacks life I drank at the same bars ate at the same places it was so awesome to actually read about all the places that are so much a part of my life. I already loved T. Torrest writing so having such a fun nostalgic book like this was a added bonus!!

Loved the book cover and the blurb tempted me because who doesn't love a hot rocker? But that's where it ended. The writing style didn't do anything for me, the characters were both obnoxiously irritating and I just never really felt anything for either. The story rambled and felt like nothing really ever happened. Half the time I was just plain bored and the other half I was frustrated and irritated. It was most unexpected from an author I've read before and enjoyed.

When I saw the sign up for this book, I was so intrigued. This book is set in 1995, so even though I was only 9 years old at the time, I wanted to experience and feel everything this book had to offer because to me, it is something completely different to what I have read!
Let me tell you this.......I WAS ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY by how fantastic this book really is!!!!
T. Torrest has delivered one of my favourite books of all time!!! FACT!
Livia Chadwick lives life to the full! She spends her days doing something she adores....Photography! And her nights, weekends and holidays chasing rock stars showing those who she encounters a VERY.GOOD.TIME!! She is surrounded by wonderful friends and family who also share her love of living life and music! Being surrounded by the music scene her whole life because of her Father, she really knows her stuff!
One evening, she joins friends at a bar to hear a band called "THUNDERJUG" (the meaning behind this name made me laugh my ass off) and this is where MR.JACK.SWEET.MARY.MOTHER.OF.JESUS.TANNER enters the story! He is sexual, he is funny, he is what women want, he is looking for serious, he is sick to death of groupies and random ho's wanting to jump him! So when he spots Livia out in the crowd, and immediately feels that CONNECTION when they start talking....she has him hook, line and sinker. However, Livia wants to show him what she thinks she does best.... that is just a good time and thanking the amazing musician with sexual favours!
As the story continues, you relax into something truly magical! The music references had me on spotify as soon as I had finished the story, creating a playlist that rocked my socks, the funny scenes.....a serious health hazard!
I am sporting a really bruised ass! I laughed so much, I snorted, choked on my coffee, which came out of my mouth and nose onto the kitchen floor, I slipped on the coffee, landed on my ass and continued laughing!
This book is an absolute breath of fresh air! It made me feel, I loved all of the characters, I got hot and flustered, oh and STEVIE WONDER........HELL TO THE YES!!!! T. Torrest has blessed the bookworld with this absolute DIAMOND read, you will not be disappointed! GO, RIGHT NOW, and ONE-CLICK this amazing read!!!!
5+++ Stars!!

I have to be honest...i have been on a T.Torrest binge this past week! 4 books in 6 days.

I read the Remember when series in 3 days...yup 3 books in 3 days. I HAD to read Down the shore ASAP!

First of all, I am fangirlling a bit over T.Torest. So mad I didn’t read these before the Author signing in Atlanctic City a few weeks ago b/c I would have totally been stalking her!

So, we met Liv and Jack in the Remeber When series but this book is all about how/when they met!

I think i may love these book so much because I am a product of the 80’s and 90’s and hearing these characters reference my teenage and younger yearss just brings a smile to my face! They all graduated in 1990 (or near that). I am a proud graduate...CLASS OF 87’ IN THE HOUSE!! I am a Philly (suburbs) girl but the music Liv listened to, was what I listened to (maybe add a little Hooters music in with it ←------local Philly band).

These two just made me smile. I loved that Liv just wanted to be carefree and have some fun and Jack wanted something a little bit more. Most books have it the other way around. It gave it a nice twist. They took their time, got to know each other and really KNEW each other before they jumped in. We had the chance to watch this relationship blossom and it was so sweet and nice and yup VERY H.O.T. at times. The cast of characters made this couple who they were and such an important part of the entire story. No one was a friend who just was there, they all were such an important part of eachothers lives, it was just such a great coming of age story with a few twists and turns.

If you are from Jersey or Philly especially, you NEED to read these book. If you were a teenager in the late 80’s and 90’s you need to read this book. And if you are only in your 20’s o 30’s read these books, get your youtube app going and read away and listen to the music that is referenced in the book.

On that note...what a blast from the past...The Banana Splits theme song!! Omg, my husband and I were cracking up listening to and we remembered it the moment it began to play!!

Jack will have you swooning

“i was waiting for you before I even met you. And finally, one night, there you were. With your witchy green eyes and you perfect pouty mouth”

Note: This ARC was provided by Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Down the Shore is a spin-off of author T. Torrest's much loved Remember When trilogy, though I'm not a hundred percent sure if this is meant to be a standalone or the beginning of a series, especially since there are a few memorable supporting characters whose stories I wouldn't mind reading. This is the first T. Torrest book I've had the pleasure of reading and what a pleasure it was indeedy! Set in the mid-1990s, this is a book that any romance fan may appreciate, but if you happen to be a lover of '90s music or were about the same age as the characters, just like me, then this will be a difficult book for you to pass up.

Livia and Jack were a joy to get to know, as were their motley crew of misfits plus their respective families. There were moments that I found myself laughing at the antics these guys would find themselves in. Then there were times that I would get all nostalgic, remembering what it was like to be in twenty-one (Yes, I know. I just revealed my age. I'm pretty sure you guys don't really care.) in 1995 and how I was more like Jack, ready to find my happily-ever-after but told by friends to simply enjoy being young and free (like Livia). Change can come at any age and in Livia's case, she just needed the right incentive (i.e. Jack).

If you're looking for a wonderfully written and witty novel about taking chances and falling in love, I highly recommend this novel by T. Torrest. I have already added her other books to my to-be-read list, but while there's a loose connection to the author's previous work, this can be totally be read on its own, which I did in one sitting. This book's tagline states: "It's gonna be one helluva summer." Suffice it to say, Down the Shore is one helluva book and one you should read while listening to the songs mentioned in the story. Without a doubt, this is now on my list of favorites for 2015. Can you say "five-plus-star rating"? ^.^

HEATHER'S REVIEW
5 STARS

Throw on a flannel shirt, grab your favorite 90's playlist, put on an old episode of Blossom and be prepared for a trip back to the 90s in Down The Shore. As someone who was 19 in '95 and spent my childhood, teen years and even adulthood summers at the Jersey shore this book really took me back to some of the best memories of my twenties. The beach, the bars, the vinegar fries and of course the boys!
Down the Shore follows Liv, a music lover/groupie and her group of friends as they spend their summer at a beach house at the jersey shore. Liv doesn't do relationships she just has meaningless sex usually with rockstars. When Liv and her twin sister Vix meet theirs guy friends at a bar to see band play, the lead singer, Jack Tanner catches Liv attention and the attraction is mutual. However, her normal lust them and leave them doesn't work with Jack. Done with the meaningless and craving something meaningful Jack turns Liv down and offers her an arrangement that she just can't refuse.
Follow Liv, Jack and their friends as their experience a summer of lust, love, heartache, drunken nights and a lot of laughs.
Down the Shore is why I love to read. It was filled with everything I love in a book. A dirty talking alpha, a imperfect heroine and a cast of secondary characters that I just adored. The store itself is just a beautiful, funny story of love, loss and second chances in a sense.
The is the first book I have ever read by T. Torrest and I am an immediate fan. I was only 20% in and I one clicked her Remember When boxed set. The writing is flawless and I really did feel like I was back in that time, down the shore with these characters feeling what they were feeling, laughing out load and the descriptions in this book were amazing I swear I could feel the humidity and smell the Ocean.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has had a summer love! It was truly a wonderful journey I didn't want to end. I give this 5-I want to be down the shore right now- stars!

SWEET…that’s how I would describe Down the Shore. It was the story of an up and coming rock star and the girl he picked out in the crowd to be his last and only. Liv lived life on the wild side by following rock bands that came to the area and willingly giving of her abilities to please most with her Drew Barrymore lips.
Jack was a local contractor and a rock musician whose band played the local bars/clubs. He had his fair share of the groupie lifestyle but was ready to give that up to find the “right” girl. Then along comes Liv, the girl who was just plain ready “to give it up”. Jack made Liv agree to an “arrangement” that there would be no sex until their 10th date which Liv had a hard time dealing with since she usually gave it up after 10 minutes. Jack had seen more of who Liv was and who she really could be than what she herself did.
The story is the road in which Jack & Liv grow a love in which only one of them is ready to admit to before things fall apart. Yes, as others have mentioned there was a big gap within the last third of the book but I didn’t find it that tough to deal with. Once the story picked up again after the time gap it was easy to forget about that and get back into their story. Yes, it did have some pretty steamy scenes and it was amazing how Jack “dealt” with the arrangement. He is a better man than most.
For me this author did a really good job of making you feel the ups and downs that this couple went through and writes with a great sense of humor too and that is why I definitely think it is worth your time to read this rock romance and get a taste of a love story between Jack & Liv.

5 Rock God Stars!

I absolutely love how Miss Torrest can take me back in time... not too far back but back to my teenage years or in this case my early 20's. I highlighted so many catch phrases in this one that were AWESOME for instance "I am more excited than Jessie Spano on a caffeine pill bender" insert song here, "I'm So Excited". This book is just wonderful!

Liv is a rocker chic. She is a tad bit on the loose side and her morals are a tad bit skewed but hey it's the 90's and if I could get any part of my body on a rock god I probably would do the same thing.

Enter Jack Tanner, as Right Said Fred says "He's to sexy for his clothes" and Liv's goal is to get him out of them immediately. But Jack has recently adopted Jermaine Stewarts philosophy of "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes of for a good time" so she gets shot down. But Jack has other plans and he plans on taking Liv with him for the ride.

Come along with Jack, Liv, friends and family and enjoy the summer of 1995. I was pregnant with my first son, born in August of 1995 so my summer wasn't nearly as fun as Liv's. This is a book that you just must experience for yourself. It has it all...humor, love, a little drama, heat and fun.

Another wonderful creation from T. Torrest.

Livia loves music, and she enjoys having some fun musicians after a good show. She isn't looking for anything serious, and when she meets Jack after seeing his band play Livia is very interested in having some fun with Jack. Jack is very attracted to Livia as soon as he meets her, but has decided that he is done with empty sex. He wants a relationship with more. After some back and forth and realizing their attraction for one another isn't going to go away, they negotiate an arrangement where they will go on a number of dates before having sex.

I liked both main characters and the unique spin on the rocker romance. There were times when Jack seemed a little too good to be true, but there was no denying the chemistry between he and Livia. I liked how their friendship became strong as they attempted to date one another on a real level. I also got more emotionally invested when I found myself getting really angry or frustrated with the characters or their choices. Overall, I enjoyed this and would read more by this author in the future. 3.5 stars.
