Sweet, short Christmas story to warm your holiday heart!
When Tennyson’s boyfriend left her for her best friend from high-school, all Tennyson received in the break up was her dog. She’s sworn off men and now is rebuilding her life. The only thing Par does is work. He barely has time to do anything he wants for himself other than take his dog to the dog park. When Par and Tennyson find an abandoned dog at the park named Duke. Will they find room in their hearts to take him in? And can this Christmas season weave some special magic for the two of them?

She lives in a hundred-year-old house that she grew up in. Her semi-small town holds an interesting mix of resident hillbillies, yuppies and Navy Seals. And of course Seattle, only a few miles away, is the birthplace of Starbucks so coffee is always on the checklist. She blows glass beads with a blow torch, (which relieves a lot of stress and people don't bother you). Jenni watches and reads all genres of movies and books and loves to lose herself in a good plot.
I read this as part of the Christmas Romance anthology, which was provided to me by one of the authors in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute story. My only issue is how fast the relationship moves. I know it's a short story, so the story is going to move at a fast pace, but I like more development.
What a fantastic read. However it was way too short! Must find more books by the same author. This book had all my favorites wrapped up in one. Highly recommend. I almost never give anything higher than 3 stars.
In the beginning, we see Tennyson and James breaking up. He's a real jerk, but of course, Tennyson was hurt by the breakup and swore off men. The only thing James had allowed her to keep was the dog, because he said he wouldn't have gotten a mutt anyway. Tennyson moves in with a friend from work and settles into a routine that involved her shifts at the restaurant and taking her dog to the dog park. It's there that she meets Par. He was going for a jog while his dog was playing with another dog there. There were three dogs but only two owners, and the next day, the third dog was still there, so they realized he'd been abandoned. Their first date started out as the intent to make up flyers to try to find Duke's owner. Christmas was approaching but Tennyson thought she'd end up spending it alone. Her parents were out of town, but the more time she spent with Par the more she liked him. Then her roommate came home drunk and Tennyson's dog had slipped out on her. She woke Tennyson, then passed out herself. When Tennyson found her dog hurt, she knew she was too upset to drive but couldn't think of anyone to call to help her...except Par. He ended up helping her in ways she never imagined. In the end, they're invited to have Christmas dinner with Par's parents but Tennyson is worried they wouldn't accept her, since they'd wanted him to find a nice Indian woman. This was a nice story of blended customs and cultures revolving around a mutual love of dogs...and then each other.
I read this book as part of Christmas Romance - four short stories put together in a seasonal book. This is my review of that book which includes Central Bark at Christmas:
Christmas Romance is a collection of 4 holiday stories that will make your inner romantic sigh. Each story is unique with strong heroines that know who they are and aren't easily swayed by romance just for romance sake. I liked how each heroine has their own career and the unique situations that put them in the path of their hero. Also very impressed with the connection established by each author to the characters in a very short time which kept me interested and reading - I felt all the stories gave me a good balance of drama and romance to keep me interested. Also made just made me smile.
I was excited to read this because, hey...dogs and Christmas mean it can't get much better, right? But, for me, it fell short. I think I felt rushed through the story. A bit like rushing through a mall but not being able to go in a store or rushing through a store's isles but not being able to stop and examine the merchandise. I have the second book so I'll try again.
This was a fun tale in the aspect it had romance and dogs. Instead, of going for the run of the mill hero, the author picks a conflicted Indian male who has to find his own way. The woman has her own issues too.
When I saw this cover I knew it was the next story I would need to read as I am a dog lover. Then I saw it was by one of my favorite authors Jennifer Conner and was totally thrilled. I enjoyed this quick, cute and sweet romance and am excited to read more dog tails in the future.
Cute romance story. Not enough description of Mobley and a major error in saying a character had had a Lab when younger but it was a Golden. Duh! Completely different breeds!
