Some secrets are best kept laid to rest.

At least, that's as far as Michael Sinclair is concerned. At twenty-seven, he has spent his entire life pretending that the ghosts he encounters on a daily basis do not exist. Now, if only the dead would let him rest in peace.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem likely, especially after Kate Avery and her ailing brother, Gavin, move in next door. Kate and Gavin are haunted, and not by a dearly departed loved one. This spirit is aggressive, menacing, and harboring a dark resentment toward Gavin. In spite of every instinct advising him to walk away, Michael finds himself seeking to uncover the mysteries of Gavin's past and falling for the bright and lovely Kate. Yet competing for her affection is Luke Rainer, television's hottest celebrity ghost hunter and the only (living) person to know Michael's secret.

But the dead have secrets, too. Some will go to any length to withhold what should have gone with them to the grave, while others will risk everything to make their voices heard, even if that means putting another's life at stake. Now, for the sake of friends and strangers alike, Michael must choose between preserving his cherished anonymity and lending his aid to those for whom all hope seems lost.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Paranormal is not a genre I typically read but with that being said, I did enjoy this.

When I first started reading this I was reminded of the hitchhiking ghosts from the Haunted Mansion because the ghosts follow Michael home. So already this book was off to a good start.

I loved the mystery surrounding Gavin and Kate and their circumstances. I kept wondering, Who is this ghost haunting them? There was definitely a lot of intrigue there.

Luke Rainer was such an interesting character. At first I didn’t like him because he seemed so conceited but then he grew on me as the story went on.

I didn’t find anything particularly special about the romance, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. For the most part it felt very average, but this is just the first book in the series so it has time to develop further.

description

I didn’t know if I liked the ending, until the very end when I read the last page. The last page sealed the deal for me. The author ended the book at a very good place. It definitely makes me curious about what will happen next.

As I said before, I don’t typically read paranormal books, but I really liked this one because it wasn’t super paranormal. I have a limit when it comes to the amount of paranormal activity I can tolerate in a book and this had the perfect amount.

Overall, this was a solid paranormal novel with equal amounts of romance and mystery. The twists and turns will keep you reading until the very end.

Just found out that I can review my own book, so here I go.

This is the best book ever. Seriously. I love it. It's like a Light sent from Literary Heaven to grace readers with wonder and beauty. If books were flowers, Cemetery Tours would be a bouquet of the purest reddest roses. If books were people, I'd vote for Cemetery Tours for president of the world. It's that good. No, really. I'm not biased at all.

Okay, if I'm being honest, it's not as good as Harry Potter. But you know, nothing is as good as Harry Potter.

This book is a close second though.

Love,
Jackie

I was sent a copy for an honest review.

Omg! I freaking loved this book! I did not expect to become so invested in this but wow. The story hits the ground running with Michael who can see spirits. He has kept it hidden all his life. Until some new neighbors move in and strange things happen. There are so many twists and turns with this book that I absolutely didn't see coming! I couldn't put it down! I had to know what happened next. Love the plot and the characters so much! Diving into the next book right now!! Thank you Jacqueline!! <3

Review
Wow….Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down.  The author has such an ability to keep the reader mesmerized while spinning a action packed tale.  Even though the book is supposed to be scary and mystery…I love how Ms. Smith uses the comedy of Brink to break up the terror.

I still can’t get over how addicted I became to this book just needing the next fix (turn of the page) so I can see what was going to happen next or how everything connected together. Oh, and don't even get me started on how original Kate's disability was after her accident....I didn't even know there was such a thing!!

This is definitely a series I would love to read more about – Kate and Michael are adorable and I just couldn’t get enough of them.

Re-Cap
Michael Sinclair can see ghosts but you wouldn’t know that because this is secret he keeps to himself – he isn’t looking for celebrity status or trouble with helping those dearly departed.

Then Kate and her brother, Gavin move in across the hall from him and when helping them move in – Michael comes across a benevolent ghost who has a habit of draining the life force out of any male who comes in contact with Kate and has connected itself to Gavin.  Michael wants to ignore this but can’t seem to get Kate off his mind.  Just when Michael thinks he has a chance with Kate, his nemesis, Luke shows up.  Luke is the star of Cemetery Tours – a popular ghost hunting show – and it seems that Luke has his eyes on Kate.

Will Michael finally reveal what he can see before it’s too late for either Kate or Gavin?  Who will get the girl?

Wrap-Up
The banter is great, the romance is adorable, the story is addictive and has so many twists and turns I started getting dizzy reading the story.

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW. THIS IS A VERY INCOHERENT BLURB WHERE A fangirl FANGIRLS.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. I find it pretty flawless. Really. I have nothing to complain about (trust. I complain a lot even in my four stars reviews) CM is one of the very few books I hold very close to my heart. It makes me feel all sorts of emotions, as someone who appreciates a good story and fantasizes about being a ghost hunter.

Jacqueline E. Smith knows how to hook a reader from the gasp inducing first chapter itself. There's mystery, romance (swoon! the kind of romance where everything feels genuine and I couldn't be more happier) the twisty plot with a tinge of melancholy was a much-needed pinch to my heart, and the epic climax that made CM even more remarkable. I know I am going to reread this again. Everything happened at the right time and the right place, the pacing is so on point. Did I mention how much I adore all the characters?! There's this character I love so much but I can't go into much detail about them due to spoilers. You have to read this book in order to meet them.

I highly recommend this book to people who love ghost hunting. (Even if you don't read books; pick this up 'cause I'm sure this will get you into reading!)

The Story

Michael Sinclair has seen ghost for the past 27 years. He grew up ignoring the held people in the afterlife and was really okay with his discreet job at the local library, with his shabby apartment and his roommate and best friend, ghost Blink. Then Kate and Gavin Avery happen in his quiet life.

Kate suffered a car accident and has no memory for the past two years and so. With the loss of memory, came a condition called Color Anomia, which makes Kate forget the name of all colors, despite still being able to recognize them. It’s a little annoying, but after everything she went through, Kate is just happy to be alive and moving in with her brother. Gavin, in the other hand, seems always sick, but not one doctor was able to figure out what was wrong with him.

Michael and Kate hit it off right away and develop feelings for each other, but the knowledge that a ghost haunts Kate and Gavin’s apartment and the arrival of an old frenemy collapses every aspect of Michael’s boring life. Now he has to decide whether he wants to continue to live a lie or fight for a chance of an almost regular life beside Kate. Assuming he’s going to survive his frenemy’s quest…

The Analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

This book rocked my weekend! I was excited to read it for months <3 I loved every single aspect of it, truly. Jacqueline did a hell of a job here and Michael has become another book boyfriend of mine! <3 A 5 stars reading with a major cliff hanger that made me feel blessed that I already had the second book in my e-reader, haha!

However, enough chitchat. Let’s get serious.

The narrative was third person with alternating points of view between Michael and Kate and some special scenes with Gavin’s. I love this style, as I already said quite a few times over here, and it worked out well, for the reader to see that both Michael and Kate had their problems, but they still felt better together than apart. There were no loose ends, just that major cliff hanger for the next book – which I was more than fine with, haha!

The plot was amazing and very intelligent. Smith writes on a way that keeps her reader second guessing every single character that is not Michael or Kate all the time, it’s amazing! And even when you think you figured out who is behind everything or why all of that is happening, Smith doesn’t allow you to be sure until the deed is done. I LOVE THIS KIND OF BOOK! *--*

Lately, I’ve been lucky to befriend some awesome characters, as you may have realized during my last reviews, haha! With Smith’s book, it wasn’t any different. I loved Michael and found him to be a very believable character, as he is very insecure about his ability to see the dead. I already read some books in which the main characters could see/ talk to ghosts and this was the first time that I felt like I was reading about a real person that could have been my neighbor. Kate also was a super refreshing female protagonist, as she doesn’t depend on Michael or Gavin and actually saves Michael’s ass more than once. Kate also is a very real woman and I made her an example. Even when she screwed up a bit thanks to Luke (I’ll get to him in a bit), I wasn’t mad at her, because I felt she was only human, you know?

But let’s talk about the major narcissist of the world, Luke Raine. He’s Michael’s frenemy and Kate’s idol, so I hated him in the begging, but he is a good guy. You know, somewhere really deep inside where his ego never gone and all, haha! I have no feelings for Gavin, good or bad. I mean, he was a douche several times, but a harmless douche? I don’t know, I just have no hard feelings for him, haha! Oops!

Another aspect that really caught me off guard on Cemetery Tours was the healthy state of Michael and Kate’s relationship. They pin for each other’s company, but it’s not an Edward and Bella kind of pinning where the couple die if they don’t get to breath the same air, haha! They were always cool with themselves and highly appreciate some privacy moments, which is pretty rare in almost any romance book. I liked that! :D WAY TO GO, JACQUELINE! <3

Bonus point: character’s growth. Michael, Kate, Gavin and even Luke grow a lot when they start to spend time together and this is palpable. Of course that Michael’s that changes the most, as he is super social awkward and shy, but all of them had their souls marked with the happenings in this book.

This is the perfect ghost themed book series, in my humble opinion, as it has adventure, ghosts (duh), mystery, comedy, suspense and the right amount of romance. If you like any of those elements, JUST. READ. THIS. BOOK. SERIES.

That’s it! Thanks for reading and thanks once again to Jacqueline, for sending me those awesome books! :D

Cemetery Tours is...
~ A creepy eerie read!
Build-up around the setting is a huge factor in reads such as this, and it did deliver, every time Kate mentions that feeling of being watched? I felt it too. And additionally, with Michael's narration and description of what he sees, I was freaking out.
~ Not only it is atmospherically creepy, but it was also fun
Fun in ways that you'll go along hunting the haunted, tours on haunted places that could be infested by ghosts. There were full gear and equipment that will set you off like you are watching it on a documentary.
~ Plot
The elements are there, the build-up was there, heck I was even jittery to find out what happens then. Though I was expecting more negative energy in the overall, because of the hype I made around it I was slightly disappointed, I mean that effective atmosphere scared the daylights out of me. I think it was intentional as it is a book series.
~ The pacing is amazing
I adored how it was paced out, it is not dumped out all for the reader but it was a slow burn of mystery... speaking of a slow burn...
~ There is romance in it too!
I love this type of trope too, the "both oblivious" kind, where everyone around them knows that they are for made for each other well except for the two of them.

Would I still read the sequel? YES.
Would I recommend it? YES.

Where do I start!?
I wish I had a kickass quote to start this off but I was too busy devouring every word to look for one! A guy that sees ghosts? Knowing only that and I was already in love with this story. I am so glad Jacqueline only made me fall even more in love!
Kate had one of the most intriguing and unique backstories I have read and definitely added a lot to the story. The attraction to Michael was a little too instantaneous but I got over it really quick since the story started picking up and my mind was too focused on the ghosts instead of the romance.
I have some serious character envy going on right now!! I wish the things (excluding the bad) that happened to her would happen to me! Ghost hunting and exploring abandoned buildings are my favorite things in the world. I am so glad to have read this book and know that it's on my shelf whenever I want to revisit this world.
You bet I will... right after I read the second one! Good thing I have it because after an ending like that... I would be another ghost in Jacqueline's stories for sure!!
I shed tears and yelled out with distress in the last couple chapters. So much happened that I couldn't even catch my breath. I was left speechless by a certain character too... and not in the best way. I can safely say that I hated that character with all my being. Only a master author can make me hate a fictional person so much. The character broke my heart due to her psychotic behavior. the things she said about people were atrocious and despicable...
The rest of the characters, both alive and dead, were amazing. They felt so real and a part of me. I felt like I could visit them someday if I wanted to (which I do.)
This book has it all! If you love ghost hunting shows...this is definitely the book for you! I recommend it to everybody!

Ok, so, this was awesome.

It starts out as your standard "I see dead people, and no one can ever know my secret" sort of book - and stays standard for about two pages. Michael just wants a quiet life, so he keeps his head down and tells no one of his amazing ability... especially ghosts. Because one they know he can see them, they hang around for a long time.

Then Kate and her brother Gavin move in across the hall, and they bring a ghost with them. There's one twist after another, and the action happens so fast you can hardly turn the pages fast enough. Recommended for anyone who likes ghost stories, sweet romance, and an unconventional hero.

One of the best books I've read this year. It is well-written, the plot is addictive, the twists and turns are fantastic, the characters are funny and real (my favourite being Brink, Michael’s room-mate :) ) and the deadpan humour (no pun intended) will keep you smiling for a long time. Impossible to put down!

Cemetery Tours is a light paranormal mystery set in present day Dallas. It's somewhat predictable but a fun read nonetheless. The main characters are in their mid to late 20's but act much younger.

Anyway, like the author, I'm a huge fan of Ghost Adventures, Dead Files, Ghost Hunters, etc. So I will definitely continue with the series.

Michael Sinclair lives a quiet, single, unassuming life, working for a library and um, well... seeing ghosts. Michael may be a medium but he doesn't take advantage of his special ability. For he feels nothing good comes from interfering in the affairs of the dead.

That is until Gavin and his cute sister Kate move in across the hall at his apartment complex, a complex that is rumored to be haunted. A malevolent spirit has attached itself to Gavin, cute neighbor girl's brother, and if Micheal doesn't interfere, Kate could get caught up in the cross fire of the ghost's intended target, (her brother). Now that wouldn't be very gentlemanly of him, would it?

Micheal has bigger problems than a malevolent spirit next door, when his long time friend, the 'Ghost Prince of Prime time' swoops in for a visit. Kate becomes a total fan girl, fawning and hanging on Luke's every word. How can Micheal compete with Luke, television's hottest ghost hunter?

Cemetery Tours, a new adult, paranormal, romantic suspense by Jacqueline Smith completely blew me away! There are so many twists and turns, I got whiplash reading this book! But I loved every minute of it. So many things I had questions about were tied up nicely in the end, and the Author alludes to a sequel, *crossing my fingers & hoping*!

I loved the relationship between Gavin and Kate. If I could a pick a brother out for myself, I would pick Gavin. He is sweet, and a bit over-protective of his sister, but he means well. His sister comes before everyone, including himself.

I can't even tell you how much I enjoyed the antics between Micheal and Luke. Page after page I was cracking up over those two! THANK YOU Jacqueline for weaving Luke Rainer into the story! He was such a great supporting character.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance, and suspense. I give Cemetery Tours a well deserved 5 out of 5 ghosts! :)

Disclaimer: The author has given me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my criticism of the book in any way. All opinions are mine and mine alone.

A story packed with a good laugh hidden behind the cold wind of spine-chilling stories of ghosts. Jacqueline E. Smith conveyed her feeling of excitement for the wonderful unknown of our world. Sharing the possibilities of a “life” after death.

Michael Sinclair is a man who can see ghosts, but he doesn’t want people to know because he wants to be “normal”. Kate Avery got in an accident that caused her so much more than she could ever know. The entanglement of their lives is how this story begins.

Cemetery Tours is a good mixture of humour and insanity. Starting the book really made me engaged with just a snap of the finger. It made me laugh and it made me feel as though someone is with me while I am reading the book. The emotions it spreads throughout your system while reading it is terrific! All the characters have their own strange unique quality that will sooner or later make you feel attached to them. The only trouble I ever had with them is that they fell into the trope called insta-love.

It is impressive how Jacqueline E. Smith wrote the story as if you are sitting beside her while she tells you the story of two people she knows that experienced such a crazy life. How she transitioned every chapter and every cut throughout the book is amazing. It is not confusing in any way. And her capability to really engage her reader in a state of stupor, being transported, lost in the story, is fantastic.

Overall, Cemetery Tours is not your typical horror book. It offers so much more than just ghosts and romantic trope. You’ll definitely have fun reading it.

Cemetery Tours is the second book an author asked me to review and I want to thank Jackie Smith for sending me a copy of her debut novel! I decided to wait until October to read it because the storyline fits perfectly with this month's spooky Halloween theme.

Michael has always had the ability to see and talk to ghosts, and it is a talent he diligently ignores. That is until a brother and sister, Gavin and Kate, move in next door and bring a angry ghost with them. Now, against his better judgment, Michael will do what he can to help Kate; even if that means he must put up with the handsome television star, Luke Rainer. Cemetery Tours takes readers fun, ghost filled adventure through north-east Texas!

Cemetery Tours is a well written debut novel. I enjoyed all of Jackie's characters, which are all well developed and unique individuals. I easily connected with Kate because of her strong and vivacious personality; my grandmother always says that Texas girls are strong! I love how Jackie seamlessly incorporates modern cultural references throughout the story. It makes the characters even more real; the type of people you could meet on the street or next door. I also enjoy reading Jackie's writing style. We are both from similar areas of Texas and Jackie's voice had me reminiscing about home!

I really don't have any negative comments about Cemetery Tours. I found the story moved a little too fast in the middle of the novel. I was hoping the speed would have slowed down just a tad so that I could marinate in the details of the scenes. This point made it difficult to really connect with Michael; he seemed a tad two dimensional during these scenes. But otherwise, Cemetery Tours is a well written story!

It is fun, adventurous, and full of interesting ghosts. Cemetery Tours is the perfect read for a cool October evening! Pick it up, light a candle, and turn on your favorite ghost hunting TV show! Has anyone else read Jackie Smith's novels?

They say that building 17 is haunted. Tenants move in and quickly move out. Michael Sinclair, lives in that building and he can see ghosts. Michael's roommate and best friend, just happens to be a ghost, who's name is Brink. Kate and her allying brother Gavin, move into the apartment across from Michael's. Michael and Kate seem to hit it off good and develop feelings for each other. Michael learns that Kate was in a terrible car accident and has lost her memory for the past two years. While in Kate and Gavin's apartment, Michael spots a ghost who is very angry and will not leave, until he gets his point across. Neither Kate or Gavin can feel the presence of the spirit who haunts their apartment. One of Michael's so called friends comes to visit with him. He is Luke Rainer, the star of the TV hit show Cemetery Tours. Luke has always wanted Michael to appear on his show but he refuses. The minute Luke see Kate, he competes with Michael for her affection. Luke ask Kate, if she would like to do a little ghost hunting with him? Kate jumps at the chance to do this. She is a big fan of the TV show and has seen every episode. Luke wants Michael to go a long with them but he declines. Kate ask Michael to go a long on the ghost hunting trip and he accepts. The gang will finally find out who the ghost is and why he haunts their apartment. The characters are well develop and likeable. This is the first book in the Cemetery Tour series. This was an very enjoyable read. I plan on checking out other books in this series. I recommend this book.

What an amazing debut from author Jacqueline Smith. Michael has a secret. He can see ghosts and spends the majority of his time trying to ignore that fact. But when a pretty girl moves in next door with her brother who is ill, everything changes. Michael sees that Kate and her brother are being haunted by an angry ghost. Should he reveal his secret and help? Enter hot, ghost hunting show host, Luke. In Luke's quest to hook Michael into his show, the two of them, along with Kate, stumble onto something truly evil. If you love ghost hunting shows and a good ghost story, you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I really had a hard time putting this one down. I was thrilled to find out that she is working on another book with these characters. Can't wait to read more!

I read this in one sitting. What kept popping into my mind as I turned page after page, not putting it down for hours, was... "this is as though Odd Thomas was written by Danielle Steel or Nora Roberts." None of that is a bad thing. I LOVE Odd Thomas and I enjoy both Danielle Steel and Nora Roberts from time to time. I was thoroughly entertained for the hours mesmerized. Also, the way the ending tied things up while moving things forward was particularly impressive.

I will very much enjoy reading the sequel to this.

Jacqueline Smith hit a home run with her debut paranormal thriller. With a mixture of humor and fear she kept me turning the pages to discover the connections between the living and the dead. I am a couch detective and several times during my reading I thought I had it all figured out, but then I would hit a curve I didn't expect. Miss Smith kept me guessing and that is something I truly appreciate. This was an exceptionally fun read. I give it a five star high five!

Being a lover of all things paranormal I immediately enjoyed this book. It didn't hurt that Smith wrote the characters in such a way you can't help but relate to them in one way or another. Smith kept me turning the pages, especially the last third of the book, where I found myself reading open-mouthed at all the twists and turns. I highly recommend this book, you won't regret and you'll be running out to buy the sequel.

Didn't think I would enjoy this but I did - only thing is, I was annoyed at how tame it was. Nope, its not a scary book but it's a well written story about ghosts, hauntings and the paranormal. I'm impressed. It would have been a 5 star if it had been creepy. I like horror that gives me all the chills.

Michael Sinclair can see ghosts. He has had this "gift" all his life. However, he chooses to pretend they don't exist. Enter Kate and Gavin Avery, siblings who move in next door to him. Things take a bad turn when Michael offers to help them move in and finds that they have an uninvited guest along - an aggressive, dark spirit intent on destroying their lives, especially Gavin's. Michael tries to walk away but his instincts drive him to help the siblings uncover the mystery of their intruder. Thrown into the mix, is paranormal investigator and celebrity ghost hunter, Luke Rainer. Luke has been trying to get Michael on his team for the longest time and while he's been told over and over again to go to hell, Luke hangs around in hopes that Michael will one day join him...Michael eventually has to choose between preserving his anonymity or trying to help those who might not have had the chance to tell their story.

This is a 4 part series so the ending is really a cliff hanger for the next book. The plot is strong and very well written. I loved the twists and turns the story took. I felt I enjoyed Luke's character in the end. He starts out smug and arrogant I felt like beating him up. But the more I read on, I saw a very different side to him. He is all of the above but he's also there to help Michael and Kate whenever they need him.

I thought Smith did a really good job with the character growth and how the romance parts were written. It didn't shift the focus of the story and the romance was light. I think the ghost hunting with Luke Rainer were the best parts of the novel. I really enjoyed how Luke took his craft seriously and tries to uncover stories with his work. I did not particularly enjoy Kate's story though...I wished there was more to it because it started to turn into something from the Hallmark channel. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book. Loved the originality of the idea.

Fun, Romantic, and Ghostly Goodness!

Jacqueline E. Smith sets a great scene for a haunted story! I loved the details, visuals, and sounds created to bring the ghostly presences to life in “Cemetery Tours”. The characters are well thought out and nuanced making this the perfect blend of mystery and romance!

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Michael, Kate, and Luke in the next book!

I have no doubt from time to time you have heard about a place with rumors of spine-tingling, strange occurrences, unexplained, strange noises, cold spells, and haunting phenomena with apparitions that appear & disappear. Legends about haunted houses have long appeared in literature.
Do haunted houses really exist? Do ghosts and spirits really exist? In 1991 the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York ruled that a seller must disclose if a house has a reputation for being haunted.
Who is to say that ghosts and haunted houses do not exist. I can honestly tell you that I know for a fact that ghosts do exist and there are places that are haunted by the dead.
"Cemetery Tours" is a work of fiction that happens to be loaded with secrets. The main character, Michael Sinclair, has been enduring and encountering ghosts for years.
A lovely young lady and her brother move in next door to Michael. Kate is a beauty with hazel eyes that can mesmerize anyone.
Michael wonders if he should tell his new neighbor about the strange things that happened in the building, but he decides it was probably better just to keep all the "curse" business quiet for the time being.
Kate's brother, Gavin, has a bad addiction for energy drinks, which could explain why he doesn't look very healthy. Kate often tells him not to come to her when he needs a new kidney. Gavin tells Kate that she is an overprotective, germaphobic control-freak. Right at the beginning, a friendship develops between Michael, Kate and Gavin.
Michael has been seeing apparitions (that nobody else could see) for as long as he can remember. As he got older he realized something about ghosts: That being dead didn't turn people into monsters. Little did Michael know that there are dead people whose spirits are aggressive and menacing.
"Cemetery Tours" is an intriguing mystery with great descriptions, dialogue and characters. It is Jacqueline Smith's debut novel. I believe Ms. Smith has a great sense of humor and is a compelling, creative writer. Find out for yourself. I believe you will have fun turning the pages.

When Jacqueline E. Smith approached me for a review of her novel Cemetery Tours the first in her paranormal romance series Cemetery Tours, I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. Ghosts, a haunting involving a menacing spirit and celebrity ghost hunter? A side dish of romance? Hello summer read! Cemetery Tours delivered suspense, giggles, mystery, heart and a sweet romance. Cemetery Tours is a perfect read for a rainy summer afternoon.

The story takes place in a reportedly haunted apartment complex. Michael Sinclair, a librarian lives on the most haunted floor. Since childhood, he has been able to see ghosts, and his roommate just happens to be dead. He meets ghosts on a daily basis, but is sure never to make eye contact due to some bad experiences. When siblings Kate and Gavin move in next door, Michael helps unload their boxes. Gavin looks ill and Kate, well she looks hot. However, in their apartment he encounters a menacing entity who seems furious with Gavin. The tale that unfolds is suspenseful, cute and captivating as Michael breaks his own rules to help Kate.

Cemetery Tours had several story threads and Smith did an excellent job of giving them each weight and balancing the story. All of which resulted in a compelling read from the characters to the mysteries. Fans of Ghost Hunter shows will delight in the introduction of Luke Rainer a celebrity ghost hunter who has been trying for years to get Michael to join his crew. Kate was complex, and both Gavin and her parents are very protective of her. Her backstory was well done, and I love how the author added twists that kept me guessing as to why this entity was haunting Gavin. Micheal is shy, inexperienced with woman and an introvert due to his secret. I felt for him, and found him to be adorable. Woot for a good guy story. The paranormal woo-woo was fantastic from ghost-busting-gadgets to murdered brides haunting old barns. Despite the creep factor, the tale was light enough that even the biggest scaredy cat will enjoy the tale. The last part of the book notched up the suspense as the characters find themselves in danger. The romance while secondary developed slowly with Kate taking the lead. It was cute, clean and refreshing. While Cemetery Tours is adult fiction, it is one easily enjoyed by older young adult readers.

Cemetery Tours was a well-rounded engaging paranormal with fleshed out characters that I quickly consumed. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Disclaimer: I received a physical copy from the author but cannot affect my review. All are my thoughts.

Cemetery Tours is a very diverse story and is such a page turner. You will keep on reading because of the mysterious effects inside it. I expected this to be a full horror book but the premise is actually diverse. The story does not only focus about ghosts and such, but also friendship and pasts.

Michael Sinclair who can see ghosts and even communicate with them. He sees them regularly but he sometimes ignore them because the realm between death and life must be separated. Kate and Gavin Avery are Michael's neighbors who were being haunted by a mysterious ghost. There are things that they must consider to face what is happening.

The plot really amazed me. I did not expect it to be like that. I thought that I will stop reading because I am not fond of horror stories. In fact, I now want to communicate with ghosts(just kidding). The whole story seems so real. There are no boring parts. There are intense chapters that will make your heart pound. There are twists that are really mind blowing and very suspense. There are no unclear ideas within the book. I love every piece of it.

The characters itself have their own uniqueness and I love how the author connects every character which makes the plot varies. Michael Sinclair that can communicate with ghosts is a very unique idea for the story. There are funny characters like Brink! I love Brink. I thought the story gonna be a scary one but as I said earlier it is not as a whole. There are funny times and I love it because it is witty. Kate is so sweet and an independent one. I love Luke Rainer because he is a knight and shining armor for me haha. All the characters gave colors to the story.

All in all I will fully recommend this book. It is amazing and charismatic inside and out. A total page turner and will satisfies you no matter what. This is a must read book. If you are looking for something that is quite mysterious with a bits of love, friendship and life after death then read this book. Ultimate 5 THUMBS UP FOR THIS BOOK!

The idea of being able to see and talk to ghosts is not a new one, but the way it manifests itself here most certainly is. This is a book that really hits the ground running. In the opening chapters the reader is introduced to the four main characters; Michael, who much to his own despair at times, can see and talk to ghosts, his two new neighbours, Kate and her brother Gavin, who both appear to be having problems of their own with the departed, and lastly, celebrity paranormal investigator, Luke, for whom ghosts are both his profession and a life-long interest. There are also a host other characters, namely the ghosts, one of whom is Michael's friendly and often annoying flatmate.

The depth of characterisation is as good as I've read in a very long time, and equally impressive is the crisp, sharp dialogue, the style of which reminds me very much of Hemmingway. Without giving too much away, there are some clever twists that effortlessly drive the story forward as Michael tries to use his largely unwanted 'gift' to help Kate and Gavin, as well as the slowly unfolding romance between Michael and Kate. Adding to the mix is the charismatic TV celebrity, Luke, with his expert knowledge of ghosts and the paranormal. But this is no simple story of some 'medium' trying to help a girl he 'likes,' to exorcise a few unwanted spirits; that Jacqueline Smith has skilfully provided all the hints and clues for all the twists and turns the take place, ensures that nothing ever feels contrived or laboured, instead leaving the reader thinking, 'Ahh..I'd never have guessed that', or, 'wow, I never saw that coming,' as all the pieces slowly fall into place to produce a truly thrilling and unexpected ending.

This is an 'absolutely must read' for all fans of the young adult and paranormal genres, as well as anyone who simple enjoys a great ghost story.

This was one of my first ventures into reading something independently released, and while I wasn't particularly disappointed, it is easy to see a difference in quality - unfortunately. Where there should have been tension within the story I found, simply, narrative - and where I thought there would be complexity, I found what felt like a High School drama. And yet, none of that really matters - because this independent author, whose blog I've been following for quite a while now, is one of the most approachable indie authors I've yet seen, and this book is very much a reflection of her personality. Her voice is extremely likeable, and you can tell that she really, really cares about these characters. And the best thing is, she wrote this book for herself, without much of a care for the opinions of potential or existing readers.

The oddball character Michael is loveable, likeable, and very easy to empathise with. I liked his relationship with ghosts, and his friendship with the "ghost hunter" was very entertaining. It helps as well that I love ghosts and seeing how different authors tackle the subject. I found this perspective to be a very much enjoyable one. The religious aspect didn't appeal to me at all, however, and felt very forced and preachy. The characters could have really done without that, but then again, there wasn't much else to act as the story's conflict!

While I did enjoy the story, I probably wouldn't read it again in a hurry - things turned out to be quite predictable in the end, and I did often feel that the characters were portrayed as much younger than they were supposed to be, which always bothers me. But a very good attempt, nonetheless, and I look forward to seeing how Ms Smith develops as an author a few books down the line. I'd like to read the sequel eventually!

Move aside, Edward Cullen. Vampires are so 2005. It's 2014 and the ghosts are in.

It's true. Tune into any major television network, and chances are, you'll find some sort of television show featuring ghosts. Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters, My Ghost Story: Caught on Camera, Long Island Medium, Celebrity Ghost Stories, you name it. Television has actually been into hauntings and life after death for a while now, and finally, there's a book to match.

Cemetery Tours, the first novel written by Jacqueline E. Smith, tells the story of Michael Sinclair, a young man who can see and communicate with spirits, but who has been trying to hide this "talent" from the world for years. Then Kate and Gavin Avery move in next door. Kate is beautiful, light-hearted, and fun, but Gavin, her brother, is haunted by a dark and angry ghost. Michael is instantly drawn to Kate, but he knows that in order to keep his secret, the only real choice he has is to stay away from her.

I'll admit, even though I love Kate and Michael, my favorite character was Luke Rainer, the hot lead ghost hunter of a paranormal show called Cemetery Tours (hence the title). He comes off as kind of a jerk, but he's hilarious, and as you go on, you find out there's more to him, and most of the characters, actually, than meets the eye. Brink, Michael's best friend, is another character that I loved. I just wish he'd been in the story more!

All in all, this is a great and fun book that I would recommend to anyone. I laughed out loud in several scenes, but there were also parts that were so creepy that I literally got goosebumps. I really loved all the characters and I would happily read more books written by this author!

If I believed that ghosts existed, then Jacqueline Smith's portrayal is exactly how I would imagine them to be. Cemetery tours is filled with a realism that merges seamlessly with the supernatural, and I obsessed over this book until I finished reading it.
Michael leads a relatively simple life, but carries scars and, for the most part, has ignored his psychic ability for his entire life. His apartment complex is haunted, and although he is a genuinely decent guy,  people can tell that there's something unquantifiably different about him. His relationships have suffered, and roommate Brink (Ghost) offers valuable advice and humour throughout this entertaining read.
Following an accident, the lovely Kate moves into Michael's building with her brother Gavin, and Michael's life changes course completely. An old friend in the shape of celebrity ghost hunter Luke Rainer, provides a challenge for Michael and his blossoming relationship with freshly star struck Kate.
Michael is naturally reluctant to share his knowledge about spirits, but events conspire to push him to the point where he's forced to reveal his true nature. Jacqueline Smith weaves her swift moving tale with skill, creating the most believable characters, the ghosts having almost as much depth as the living. The writing flows beautifully and she allows just the right amount of speculation to take hold before ratcheting up the tension to provide twists and surprises along the way, taking the reader on a memorable and exciting adventure of love, sacrifice, vengeance and madness which culminates in a satisfying conclusion.
I look forward to the next in the series.

I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review

I love anything paranormal so, when the author of Cemetery Tours Jacqueline Smith contacted me to see if I wanted to review I jumped at the opportunity and I’m glad I did because I absolutely loved it. Our main character Gavin has been able to see ghosts since he was a child, but now that he’s older he prefers to keep that fact to himself; that is until the day he gets new neighbors Kate and her brother Gavin who seem to be haunted by a very angry ghost who seems to have unfinished business with Gavin.

This book was so good, I loved every second of it! Michael, Kate and Gavin are very likable characters I clicked with them immediately; I also found myself liking Luke (the obnoxious TV host of Cemetery Tours) a lot, I found him to be very funny, but not as funny as Brink Michael best friend; I’m really hoping to see more of these two in the second book! I loved that this story was set in Dallas since I live three hours away from Dallas I feel like I can just grab my keys and go explore the places mentioned in the book (which I really want to google and see if they do exist) lol. This novel had me laughing out loud, crying, and had me jumping at any little noise I would hear while I was reading. I love the twist I wasn't expecting it at all and it made this amazing read even better. Like I said at the beginning I loved every second of this book and all the characters have made their way into my heart. If you have yet to pick this book up, I highly recommend it!

Have you ever eaten a meal where the first forkful is fine, the next very good and the third so sublime you find yourself gobbling hurriedly to savour whatever else it has to offer? Cemetery Tours is the book equivalent of that meal. The deceptively simple prose draws you in to the lives of the principal protagonists, both as wholesome as apple pie on the surface but both have an obsession with ghosts. Kate has the hots for the presenter of a ghost busting TV program and Mike is blessed or cursed with the ability to see and even speak to them. Wanting to be seen as nothing more than a regular guy, to date Mike has kept his powers to himself, but trying to do that, particularly with the edible Kate becomes harder and harder as the plot unfolds. Why are there so many things suddenly going bump in the night, why is the Pastor of nearby church so hostile to Mike, and what secrets are there in Kate’s closet that even she doesn’t know about?

Jacqueline Smith artlessly allows new facts to unfold as the book proceeds, and each time an onion layer peels off there is another one underneath till finally we get to the truth at the core of it.

This an impressive debut novel that is both easy to read and consistently entertaining. I have a feeling that it will particularly resonate with the Twilight generation and that the three principal characters could become cult figures. It will be interesting to see what Miss Smith comes up with next.
