Dolls & Doms #2

The Penance of Black Betty

Rate this book
Alistair Ingram is finally the man he wants to be, with the woman he wants to be with. No longer ruled by his manager, producer, agent or fans’ desires, he and Bethany “Black Betty” Stavars have settled into his LA mansion and have started a life together. Everything is as it should be…until he gets the call that Bethany has been brutally attacked in their home.

Alistair can barely stand to see Bethany’s bruised and battered body, but that’s not the worst of her injuries. She regains consciousness thinking she’s still married to her ex-husband—the man responsible for putting her in the hospital in the first place—and has no recollection of being with Alistair.

Unable to coax her brain into giving her any memories of the past ten years of her life, Bethany struggles to comprehend how she could’ve ended up on the other side of the country—California instead of Florida—and living with superstar actor, Alistair Ingram. Even worse, how had she become a dominatrix at a Vegas men’s’ club?

Lucky for her, the past few months have been detailed in black and white newsprint in every gossip magazine she can get her hands on.

With their relationship hanging in the balance, there’s only one thing Alistair can do. Jog her memory the best way he knows how. In bed.

*provided an ARC for an honest opinion*

When Kelli started Dolls & Doms I stalked that blog daily. I simply COULD NOT get enough of Alistair Ingram and Bethany "Black Betty" Stavars.

Once again these two amazing characters did not disappoint. The very first line had me holding my breath; and the first four chapters left me breathless, wrecked, ruined and waving my fist in the air at Kelli. How could she do that to them! On the edge of my seat I buckled down because the worst had to have happened, it could only go up and it did.

After a brutal attack leaves Bethany without her memories from the last ten years of her life, including her love of Alistair, he must work to help her remember who they were together; which isn't an easy task. The last thing she remembers is still being married to her abusive ex - the one she had been hiding from when she met Alistair - and living in Florida.

Alistair fell in love with Black Betty and struggles with the right and wrong of how much to tell Bethany of the woman she was and hid behind for so long. Bethany is the woman behind the wall that Black Betty created and she too struggles with who she is, who she was and who she wants to be as she learns about her past and bits of memories work their way back.

Alistair and Bethany are as hot as ever but in a more tender and endearing way. I fell in love with them all over again as they made their way to yet another HEA.

Just O.K.

I really expected more from this book, not to be so short and have you hanging at the end with so many unanswered questions.

Bethany is attacked by her abusive ex-husband in Alistar's house in LA while he's shooting a movie in Seattle. She suffered severe injuries and wakes up with no memories of the past 10 years. She still thinks that she's married to her ex and she's a submissive. Finding out in a gossip rag that she's a Dominatrix training Alistair for a movie is a shock to her.

All Alistair wants us to have Bethany regain her memory and know him again. He can't live without her. But seeing this new vulnerable, sweet side to his girl is so refreshing. He still sees bits and pieces of "Black Betty" so he knows that she's not completely gone.

Slowly Bethany is recalling memories of their past. Some she shares, some she doesn't.

And that's where the book ends.

This novella continue the story of Alistair and Bethany "Black Betty" Stavars from The Submission of Alistair Ingram. They do not immediately get their happily ever after. While Alistair is filming, Bethany is brutally attacked. And unfortunately she awakes with no memory of Alistair and has lost ten years of her life. She still believes she is married to her abusive Dom Ex. And Alistair is just a famous actor to her.

Alistair vows not to leave her side, but she will she ever remember him?

I loved Alistair's devotion and support of Bethany whether she is the Dom Black Betty or the new softer, sweeter, submissive Bethany. He is totally swoon worthy, protective, and loving. He has such charisma and charm. Bethany does not know him or remember him, but she can tell he is a good man and her body still responds to him. Their chemistry still shines through. And it just adds more to the mix between their changing dominant and submissive tendencies. She does not understand how her life turned out the way it did and the more she learns, the more it surprises her. And Alistair has to struggle between letting her heal on her own or overburdening her with details that might be better left alone.

"You're the woman she kept hidden away deep inside. The one she was afraid to let out."

This was a very short novella, but brings Bethany and Alistair more challenges and complications to face together. They are such a unique couple and I really like them together and how things keep evolving between them. They have to basically learn who they are all over again and who they could be to each other. I enjoyed getting to see a more vulnerable Bethany vs. the harder Dom Black Betty. It was short, steamy, and sweet. And I really was just ready to keep reading more. It went by way too fast.

Thanks to Kelli Maine for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

**KIM'S REVIEW**

“Now she’d have to fight to live against, just when she found something worth living for.”

The Penance of Black Betty picks up with Alistair on set filming a movie and Bethany walking into their home only to find her ex-husband there.

“How could she have ever been married to this man? How could she have had such little self-respect?”

He ends up beating her to a pulp and when she comes to she thinks it’s 1991. She thinks she still married to her husband and has no clue while Alistair is there. Now Alistair’s head starts to fill with doubts and he starts to question her feelings for him. He wonders if she’ll ever be able to love him or even worse is she still in love with her ex?

“I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know who you want me to be-who you expect.”

Bethany can’t remember her Black Betty days and she certainly can’t believe she’s not a submissive anymore. She has no clue what its like to be taken care of without strings or be in a normal relationship where nobody has control over the other. Yet she knew that even though she couldn’t mentally remember him physically her heart was drawn to him.

“You feel this? This is the connection we have? It was instant, and we’ll always have this, Bethany.”

Now these two have to learn how to be a couple again. Will they be able too or will her memory loss ruin everything?

“You’re the only person I have. I don’t know anyone else.”

I literally read this book in an hour or so and was wishing there was more. I also felt like we just fell into the beginning without any real introduction so for a serious scene it was hard to get into but once I did it was smooth sailing. It was a nice short sexy read! I’ll tell you one thing, I’d take Alistair Ingram any day whether I remembered him or not! ;)

Once again Kelli knocks it out of the park!

I absolutely LOVE this story of Alistair and Bethany. These two characters have me cheering and rooting for them when it seems like the whole world is against them.

The beginning of this novella had my stomach in knots, Why? oh no! Damn it run Betty RUUUUUNNNN... Those were all things I yelled at my kindle as I felt anxiety sweeping coursing through my body.

Bethany (Black Betty) has been found by her ex and beaten, poor Alistair is away shooting his movie when he gets the call. Rushing to her side in the hospital he finds that she does not remember anything from the past 10 yrs, she doesn't remember being a dom, being with Alistair. I may have shed a few tears.

Poor Alistair, he never gave up. He stayed by her side. He may have fell in love with Black Betty and all her sassiness, but this new sweet, trusting Bethany is completely different. He even says he feels like he is cheating on Bethany, which is ridic, I mean she is her. Its crazy and intense and wonderful.

The way he cares and loves her, made me fall for Alistair all over again. He showed her how much he loves her and would do anything for her, and even though Bethany can not comprehend this, her body ist seems is the only part of her that does remember him.

This novella made me have anxiety, made me fall in love with Alistair more, made me crave for more and left me satisfied. OK well maybe not really because I truly love these little novellas. If you are looking for a quick wonderful, story packed full of sexiness and drama then pick up The Submission of Alistair Ingram.

This is a very short novella (so it's really hard to rate it) that continues the story of Alistair Ingram and Bethany "Black Betty" Stavars from The Submission of Alistair Ingram.

It basically picks right back up where the last novella left off. While Alistair is away filming his new movie with his "ex-fiancé", Bethany is brutally attacked in their home. Alistair rushes to be by her side, but when Bethany wakes up she has no memory of Alistair. She has lost ten years of her life, she believes she is still married to the abusive ex who attacked her and also doesn't remember her time as "Black Betty". Alistair promises not to leave Bethany's side and support her and helps her remember. All Bethany knows is, Alistair is this famous movie star that her mind doesn't remember, but her body remembers him. It's not long before the chemistry between these two is back and little bits and pieces of their life together comes back to Bethany. Will Bethany remember her past and how will she deal with all the hardships and the person she has become?

The Penance of Black Betty gets 3.5 stars. It was sweet, saucy, and sexy! Like I mentioned before, this is a very short novella that continues Alistair and Black Betty's story. I definitely enjoy reading these, but I will be glad when we can get the complete series.

Wow! I didn't realize it had been since February since I read the first in the Dolls & Doms series (visit my review for The Submission of Alistair Ingram) but I still remembered loving Alistair and Black Betty, or Bethany. With that said, you'll want to read these in order.

In the continuation of Bethany's and Alistair's story, Bethany is brutally beaten and loses her memory of her time with Alistair and a significant amount of time before that. It's really heartbreaking to see her and Alistair having to deal with this. But I also saw the beauty in them relearning and rebuilding their relationship.

Within the span of a novella, Kelli Maine delivers a story that had me completely involved and not wanting to put it down until I finished. This installment in the Dolls & Doms series reminded me why I loved Alistair and Black Betty - the ups and downs, trying to find their way in a relationship, and learning to trust.

Coming into this book, I didn't have any idea what it was about. Yes, I read the book blurb, but I have the shortest memory and it was weeks ago. Now whenever I start a book, it is pretty much a surprise because I have forgotten the blurb.
From the very beginning this short story/novella (I'm not sure of the definitions of either) really pulled me in. I was hooked. I mean, seriously, a past dominatrix that had her home invaded, was a movie stars partner and now her ex is in her house. What the hell is happening?
Remember when you go to read this book that it is short. I read it in an hour or so, but it was good. I interest is seriously peeked and I can't wait to get my hungry eyes on the other books in this series! Make sure and go to www.DollsandDoms.blogspot.com
Kelly has the first 4 chapters of The Penance of Black Betty on the site, plus it's just darn cool. You can even see who she "casts" as Alistair and Bethany.

I'm not sure what happened to this book but I feel it's the complete opposite of The Submission of Alistair Ingram! Granted, I still enjoyed the book, but boy, what a difference! First off, remember when I said that I didn't feel like the first book was rushed and unfinished. I felt the complete opposite of this book! I don't understand why the author decided to write a huge, new plot line to the story because it would have been so much better if this was an actual epilogue (because it was so short!) to the story. Maybe with a little drama and a happily ever after. Not, . I did not like the actual epilogue because it felt like it leaves you hanging. I want more to the story now because it it! Anyways, this was disappointing but I did like that we had gotten more from Alistair and Bethany. I will miss them!

A great quick read, poor Bethany, what an ordeal.

Alistair is such a lovely, charming, man! Loved the cozumel setting, so sweet.

How terribly sad to lose your memory, especially the way it had happened. they say things happen for a reason, looks like this is going to cement their relationship.

I guess they get to learn all about each other again, finding out each others quirks!

The ending was very sweet fingers and toes crossed for a super duper happy ever after.

Short conclusion to an exciting first book. This one had one violent scene that set up everything thereafter. It also changed the direction of the story significantly from book 1.

There was less action. The relationship was changed to more subtle. It was okay. Where it ended is where I had hoped the story would continue.

There was some confusion with 1991, and then the mention of ten years later, and it was 2013.

Kelli Maine left me with my heart in my gut at the end of the Submission of Alistair Ingram. We pick up right where we left off with Alistair rushing to Betty. I wasn't prepared for the next twist but really enjoyed exploring the depth of Alistair's love for Betty as they worked through their new challenges. A great conclusion to their sexy, steamy romance.
