C. A. (Carol Ann) Newsome writes the Lia Anderson Dog Park Mysteries, a series of fun, romantic suspense/mystery novels which are inspired by and centered around her mornings at the Mount Airy Dog Park with her trio of rescues (rowdy hooligans).

A life-long lover of fiction, Carol turned to books and audiobooks during her decade-long recovery from a head injury that occurred when she and her bike were struck by a car. Years of immersing herself in popular fiction lead to imagining the book she wanted to read, and wondering if she could actually write it.

She is also an artist with an M.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati. You'll see portraits of some of her favorite four-footed friends on the covers of her books. She enjoys creating community-based public artworks. As an artist, she is best known for her New Leaf Global Good-Will Guerrilla Art Project.

Her other interests include astrology, raw food and all forms of psychic phenomena. She likes to sing to her dogs. The dogs are the only ones who like to listen.

Lia Anderson found she had her hands full with her foster dog Max. She continually attempted escape – succeeding on many occasions. The day Lia and her fellow dog owner friends were at the dog park when Max once again escaped didn’t end well. The bone Max brought back to Lia turned out to be human…

Detective Peter Dourson, Lia’s boyfriend was soon on the case with his partner Detective Brent Davis and what they found wasn’t pretty. The murder victim was someone they knew; not well but they were about to know much more. As the investigation continued, the mystery deepened – would they arrest someone any time soon? But as the danger accelerated it seemed Lia was in the firing line once again. And where was the victim’s dog, Daisy?

Maximum Security by C.A. Newsome is the third in the Lia Anderson Dog Park mystery series, and was just as much fun as I’ve come to expect. The intelligence and interaction between human and dog shines through – the dogs are fully part of the story. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

Lia Anderson is back, and her current foster dog, Max, is a canine Houdini, a genius at finding gaps in the dog park fence. And one fine day in October, Max returns from her solo exploration of the adjoining woods carrying a human femur.

And it's not very old.

Max is easily able to lead Lia and Jim back to the body, or rather, the bones, almost entirely stripped of its flesh. And once the bones are identified as George Munze (spelling is a guess; I listened to the audiobook), Lia is looking for his missing dog, Daisy, while her boyfriend, Cincinnati homicide detective Peter Dourson, is looking for a killer.

But of course Lia befriends the perfectly nice woman, Kate Anstad, who was George's high school sweetheart, recently returned to his life, who is an obvious suspect. Her best patron, Renee, takes Kate in when the police ask her not to leave town. A mix of compassion and suspicion leads the dog park friends to organize deliveries of meals to the Munze household--where George's wife, Monica. is also an obvious suspect; whose daughter Stacy his cracked a secret about George's private life; who also has a teenage neighbor with an obvious crush on Monica hanging around and doing outside chores.

And of course, Daisy's disappearance isn't unrelated to George's death.

Meanwhile, Lia and Peter are wrestling with their relationship and their own insecurities. Peter is conservative and conventional by nature; Lia's past makes her wary of a too-traditional relationship, and fearful of giving up her space and independence.

This is a very nicely done mystery, with good character development. Newsome continues to greow and develop as a writer. Plus, of course, dogs. Dogs are always a win!

Recommended.

Another enjoyable read. Love the Dog Park people. I get a little aggravated at Lia but at just about the point I'm ready to shake her till her teeth rattle she comes through with some self realization and acknowledges her flaws and is willing to work on them. Who wouldn't love a friend like that... and that's how I think of the Dog Park series characters... as friends of mine.
I thought it was really cool that this book begins in my home state of Oklahoma too. LOL

This book does have some good couples advice in it like, “... if you want a good marriage, first you have to hae respect based on admiration, trust and then friendship...all three things...”.

I also like that in these books I run across references to other books/writers I “know”. In this one it was Lucas Davenport/John Sanders. Makes me think the author and I have similar taste in reading material.

This book only gets four stars because (1) I felt like the fiasco at the funeral … I won't describe it further... was really over the top and when I read Stacy's comment, “Did I do that?” I heard Erkle's voice in my head!!! and, (2) while I loved the surprise at whom the killer turned out to be, the denouement was presented as if the writer were running out of ink or paper.

As in the two previous books the author has used real people (with their knowledge and consent) and places which I think adds a level or realism. I'm off to read the next in the series... can't wait.

Our book club met with C.A. Newsome this past week for our book club discussion. Those who had not read anything by her started with A Shot in the Bark. I've read several of her books so I read Drool Baby and Maximum Security, #2 and #3. What I love about this series is the local mentions and the small community of characters not necessarily in a town by around a dog park. The first 2 books really go together but by book 3 we are settling into the group dynamic. In this 3rd book the person murdered is not part of the close knit group by visits the park. They know him and they are pulled into the situation because a dog Lia is fostering finds the body. Her boyfriend Peter is on the case and the two of them share information. It's a fun read and checks off all the cozy requirements!

I liked this story, and the complexity of the mystery that was presented. The variety of characters and their personalities made for interesting listening as the very talented Jane Boyer brought the story to life in the audiobook, and I'd definitely recommend it to mystery lovers, either as book or audiobook.

A visitor to the dog park, a missing dog and then there's Max the escape dog who finds a human bone. A missing man has been murdered and Lia and the dog park crew are searching for the missing dog but the plot thickens and there are so many twists and turns and possible suspects. In the end it's a sighting of the missing dog that reveals all.

Eh

Probably the best of the three I've read so far. Since I already purchased the rest of the series, I'll read them, but it's not my favorite series.

Another Great Read

Another Great Read

Once again C.A. Newsome and the diverse group of friends from the Mount Airy Dog Park are involved in a mystery that keeps my interest right up to the last page of the book. I like a book that is well-written and informative. Being a life-long dog lover and owner I always learn something new from the dog park pack and their owners.

The story of Lia, an accomplished artist and Peter, her police officer boyfriend, may seem an unlikely couple. Their relationship rings true in all its ups and downs. When her escape artist foster dog jumps the dog park fence and returns with a large bone he doesn't want to give up, she enlists the help of one of the park regulars to safely exchange the bone for hotdogs. That's when they discover the bone is human. Peter is called to take possession of the evidence and the investigation begins.

This beginning had me hooked. Do yourself a favor and buy this book. I can guarantee a read that will keep you guessing.

The main character, Lia, again gets involved in a murder case and a lost dog. There is a lot of suspense because you don't really know who the murderer is til almost the end.She finds the lost dog and it leads to to the possible killer then Lia gets herself in quite a predicament and almost loses her life. Her boyfriend detective, Peter, is the main investigator of the case. I enjoyed the book especially because characters from the previous books are in this one. It gives the book stability. The book has a lot of mystery and intrigue. I'm looking forward to her next book!

This is book three in the Lia Anderson Dog Park Mysteries. It's a great addition to the previous books. Lia Anderson is back, and her current foster dog, Max, is a canine Houdini. Max is a genius at finding holes in the fence around the dog park and returns on day with a human bone. Things are heating up with Lia and Peter, her boyfriend who is shopping for a ring. A murder near the park has Lia looking for the victim's missing canine and clues to help solve the killing. A little violence but a good mystery.

I have really been enjoying reading this series. The twists and turns to get to the end keeps you reading. The angst that has Lia in its grip about whether or not to commit to Peter is palpable and you really feel her confusion. The people are so real you want to get to know them and of course the dogs are so much fun.

Great. Not telling you anymore but it sees our group moving on and becoming more and more fleshed out. If you enjoyed the first two episodes, you'll love this. Personally, I've already bought Sneak Thief and will start it tonight.
