These kids today legit have no idea how awesome it was reading the manga and watching the cartoon back in the day. Sure, we didn't have our own fancy Beyblades and domes etc - most we could get was a beyblade-afied spinning top - but we had Kai and Ray and that weird blonde kid and so much fun. I fkn loved this series way more than I should have at my age and I have ZERO REGRETS.

I kinda love this, even if it's for how silly it is.
I remember thinking the series was kinda dumb when I was a kid but I love the manga (vol 1 anyway). It's just so brash and campy.

This book was amazing for bladers, and a very good book overall. My favorite beyblader in this book is Tyson. And, my favorite beyblade is Dragoon, and he's very powerful. And, Tyson's rival also is Kai. He has a very strong bey as well. His Dragoon broke to bits, so he made a new bey. Then he put Dragoons center piece on it. He new beyblade is now just as strong. He found a new friend and his friend and him are going to the championship league. They both went to the next round in the semi finals. And, then the book stopped there.

My fiance' is obsessed with all things *Beyblade*, so I promised him I would eventually read this. I finally did, and I must say this: I am not impressed. This is not to say that I hate *Beyblade*. I just happened to have watched the anime years ago - long before reading this manga volume - so, I think that spoiled me on it. The anime series, *Bakuten Shoot Beyblade* (or as the US called it, *Beyblade*), is much better than this manga. (Except that I like like that Hitoshi Kinomiya shows up sooner in the manga than the anime.) Also, the *Metal Fight Beyblade* manga seems like a better read in my personal opinion.

A few issues I have........
1. Lots of pages were cut where much of a sentence was not on the page to read. This happened throughout this volume, and was very annoying. It made it difficult to read.
2. I have always disliked the name Tyson Granger being used for Takao Kinomiya. #SorryNotSorry. Reading "Tyson" as a name always makes me think of the company that makes frozen chicken. I also didn't like "Kenny/Kyojyu" being called "Chief" throughout this volume. That is also very annoying.
3. Takao/Tyson comes across as both stubborn and stupid for not realizing that Jin is his brother, Hitoshi, even though everything Jin says and does reminds Takao of Hitoshi. I did like that the VIZ manga used Hitoshi's original name, instead of calling him Hiro, like the dubbed anime, though.

Also, if you enjoy this manga, I recommend the Future Card Buddyfight manga series as well. It's actually pretty good. It's another series my fiance' is obsessed with that I kinda got into, because of him.

Beyblader Tyson uses his special Beyblade Dragoon to take on friends and enemies alike in the first volume of Beyblade. Tyson battles the evil gang the Blade Sharks to keep his Beyblade, facing off against leader Kai after beating Carlos in a tournament. This series will remind readers of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Megaman: NT Warrior - and there are a number of similarities between Beyblade and Yu-Gi-Oh!: Kai and Kaiba's personality, the presence of a blue dragon, a main character with a magic blade/card, etc.

For readers who are looking for thought-provoking subplots and substance, this is the wrong manga - rated "A" for "All Ages," Beyblade features the simplicity common in kids' manga: the characters lack depth, like Kai, who is evil for the sake of evil. Readers looking for a fun, action-packed comic that doesn't ask for too much thought will be pleasantly surprised.

This and the second one were manga that I read while I was spending some time in the library. I am not too big a fan of 'Beyblade' at the moment but that might change once I read more about it. So far, it's still just kids playing with tops. Like back then, my favorite is still Kai. HAHA. But I've come to like Max, too.
When I was little, my cousins and I would save up and buy some Beyblades, too. It was super exciting for a little bit but then it died down because the matches weren't nearly as long. It's sort of like 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'. Seems cool but without all of the legendary monsters coming out (we didn't really have an imagination) we soon got bored pretty quickly. HAHAHA.
I mean, I still read it and didn't have too hard of a time to get through it which is why I gave it a four.

Scrappy gamers confront each other tournament-style using crazy spinning tops that are enchanted by magical animal spirits. Frankly, for manga readers who favor more involved plot and character development of any kind...this is just not for them. it reads like something that was either based off a card game or was written with the express intention of spinning off a card game, but Yu-gi-oh and Bakugan crowd who are already accustomed and entertained by exactly those kinds of scenarios will eat this up.

If you read the Beyblade manga volumes from the start you will really like them! I like these ones better than the Yugioh manga volumes.
