This is really short, so my review will be short, but I wanted to write more than "I loved it."
A friend said once that they think the best love stories start in the middle. That's pretty much what this is. I don't mind falling-in-love type romance, but to be honest, I find established couples are often more romantic. It's easier to explore the relationship in depth, at least, and that's what I prefer.
Obviously, since I pretty much have an objective of getting my hands on anything Josh-related I can find, I had to have this one. It's quirky, sweet, and has some lovely sensuality. It's really not explicit, though there's a lot of blunt conversation. If people are looking for something chili-pepper-level hot, that's not what this is. It's the sort of tenderness that comes from two people who have known each other for thirty years and know each other's thoughts yet still struggle to figure out what they both need. In other words, a lot like life.
There's a lot of emotions in here, and some of the conversation is about sensitive issues. But in between, just when things feel raw and painful, there are these ridiculous exchanges between George and Josh that had me laughing myself silly.
This is a perfect afternoon read, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it in isolation. A good part of my enjoyment came from having read the series. Though I do wonder how it would feel to read it without the rest. I think it would still work as a (mostly) sweet romance.
