Original Blurb:

Prince Joron of Blade Rain was kissed by a man he had no idea was King Aric of Claymoor Doom. Of course King Aric had no idea the one he kissed was even a man since Joron was dressed as a woman. Disguised in order to escape the newly crowned king of Blade Rain who just happens to be Joron's brother, Joron is swept off his feet by Aric when he is rescued by him from an assault. Aric is also swept off his feet by the beauty of the "woman" and that one amazing kiss. Aric, who is led to believe the beautiful woman he kissed is actually the princess, immediately goes to the king of Blade Rain and offers for the princess’s hand in marriage and his offer is accepted. Unfortunately, King Aric is now betrothed to Liarta, Joron’s sister. But an emergency has King Aric racing home without finding out the mistake he has made and now Joron must ride to Claymoor Doom to renegotiate the offer since Liarta is in love with someone else and does not want to marry King Aric.

Imagine Aric’s surprise when he discovers the Prince is the one he thought was the Princess! So Aric does the only thing he can think of. He will release Liarta from her obligation of marriage, but only if Joron takes her place... in the marriage bed.

But there are other forces at work as well and those forces are out for Joron’s life. At the death of his father, the former king of Blade Rain, Joron is suddenly the powerful new owner of the Ice Dragon Pass, the only safe route through the Norborne Mountains. There are those who would kill for that kind of power. And they have killed for it before…

Hi, my name is Hurri Cosmo and I am a happy ending junkie. I always have been. You can be pretty rest assured everything I write will have one. I am not big on angst. I believe we get enough of that in real life so when I go to read something, to make the real world go away for awhile, I will most likely not chose something that will make me cry. So I write for those people who, at least occasionally, feel the same way. I’m okay with the fact I will probably never write anything “important” but I guess I will have to see where my imagination takes me. I would love it if you would come along.

WTF kind of ending was that?? Maybe I should really take the publisher's advisories seriously. I knew there would be a book two, but the book seriously JUST ENDED. With no resolution to anything ALOT of stuff.

grrr...

And what is up with everyone wanting Joron? And by everyone, I really do mean EVERYONE.

 photo oldman-everyone_zps08150efd.gif

I don't think there was one person who didn't want him except maybe his sister (but she still thinks he's beautiful lol)

COME ON! How many times can a guy almost get raped or make someone consider rape the first 50 pages or so? Apparently a heck of a lot. I so wanted to read this book but I'm about 30% an can barely read it over the rolling of my eyes.

The self-less Joron inspiring rape everywhere he goes. Aric raping Joron out of some sense of jackassery when they first meet in Claymoore. A cute little kid who Joron just loves. Oh and a cliffhanger ending.

No really, I gave myself a headache making faces at this book.

This was an awesome start for a series. Joron is a “cinderfella” kinda of guy. He is the second, bastard son of the dying King of Blade Rain. His older brother, Diagus, is crowned king when the King of Blade Rain passes away. Joron is hated by his stepmother and desired by the new king. Joron has done his best to take care of his country by secretly supplying the citizens with food and medicine. He is spotted by Aric, the King of Claymoor Doom, the largest and richest kingdom, during one of his trips to negotiate for passage rights to the only pass through the mountains. He becomes obsessed with getting this boy, who believes is a servant. Aric has returned after a request to come by the dead king. This time Aric meets Joron when Joron is on a mission dressed as a woman. Aric is lead to believe that the woman is Joron’s sister so he convinces Diagus to contract her to him in marriage. Joron can’t allow this. He has no idea it is actually him Aric wants. Joron goes to Aric to convince him to release his sister. Aric agrees if Joron will take her place.

The writing was excellent. The plot line is fun. I admit the kings will grate on your nerves. They are KINGS, they believe they can do as they will, even Aric is that way. By the time you reach the end, it is still grating on you but Aric grows on you. You realize that he has this attitude but he is a good king and knows HE serves the people unlike Diagus and the former King of Blade Rain. Aric is a possessive and controlling man, perfect alpha material. Jordon is one of those too innocent and naïve characters. He has lived all his life in Blade Rain castle so he is sheltered but he is portrayed more innocent and unaware than I think he would have been.

Really the only negatives I had was the above with Joron’s character and some of the sex scenes. One of the big no’s in gay romance is spit as lube. I can believe that sex can be done this way one time with only soreness but given that Joron’s a virgin and they go more than once…OUCH:( Other than that I LOVED the read. I’m anxious to read the next one in the series. I want to know how Joron fairs.

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews

Joron is a prince of Blade Run and has lived the last several years helping to fix the problems that his sex mad, cruel father ignored. When his older brother, Diagus, returns due to his father’s ill health he has hope that things will begin to improve, and he holds on to that hope even as he learns that he has to avoid Diagus at all costs. When his brother inherits the throne, Joron learns he is the owner of Ice Dragon Pass and his step mother will stop at nothing to return it to his Diagus’ rule. King Aric is visiting to negotiate for passage through Ice Dragon Pass, and to see if he can find the servant who caught his eye months ago. When Aric comes across a lady being attacked he is overcome by her beauty and decides to make her his. Joron is shocked to learn of his sisters impending marriage, especially since she is promised to another who she loves and sets out to Claymoor Doom to convince King Aric to release his sister from the contract and then things become interesting. With Aric refusing to let him go and his brother’s obsession with him, Joron can still only think about his subjects and their suffering, but can he give up the love he is beginning to find or will the threat to others make him give up his freedom?

I have to say that this story was a joy to read, a world that has a medieval feel to it, a generous thoughtful prince in danger, a powerful king who is arrogant and a new king who isn’t quite right in the head. Joron is an incredible character who is selfless and kind; he is also beautiful and intelligent and has put himself at risk for his people. Aric is an interesting character who is arrogant and very sure of himself, he sees what he wants and will do anything to get it. Diagus is a character who is definitely the baddie, he creeps you out with his obsession and although you get glimpses of something good in him, the obsession overshadows everything else.

I was pulled quickly into this story and found myself wondering what was going to happen next, the storyline is very involved but has many characters who share the weight. The perspective does move from character to character but in such a way that it is very clear and not confusing, and I have to say it was nice to be able to see certain parts from other people’s eyes. The storyline itself is brilliantly composed because there is more going on than just Joron and Aric getting together, we have a self-involved Queen/Queen Mother who will do anything to make sure her son has power, we have a new king obsessed with making his brother his, we have an arrogant king who has mystery surrounding him and then Joron who will do anything to protect those he cares about.

Joron’s and Aric’s relationship isn’t easy and from the way the story ended it isn’t going to be easy either, the sex between them is hot and at first it is coercive but Joron soon discovers just how much he enjoys it. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see what will happen next, there is so much to look forward to with the different players in the story and the plans that are beginning to unfold.

I recommend this to those who love high fantasy, great characters, a brilliant storyline, some creepiness, danger, hot sex and the beginning of difficult love story.

You know how in Twilight, everyone's obsessed with how beautiful she is and everyone's in love with her? This is like the shitty fantasy slash version of that.

Literally EVERYONE wanted to fuck Joron. There were paragraphs and paragraphs in random people's POVs dedicated to this. And he was such a paragon of virtue I wanted to cut my eyes out.

Joron is the sweet virgin angel, and the evil people tended to be characterized as crazy sex maniacs. Jfc, let a person enjoy having sex and NOT be evil. I thought we'd gotten past that stage of writing crappy characters like this in fantasy?

Anyway, I recommend you don't touch this with a ten foot pole unless you're shoving it off a ledge.

1.5 stars - The story began decently enough, but soon took a turn for the worst. The plot, characterizations, and relationships within the story were scattered and all over the place, so convoluted that they made little sense. And the "to be continued" ending was just icing on an already topsy turvy cake.

I was a little worried about this one. The early reviews are so far apart with very little in between. But I ended up loving it. So well written and the characters were wonderful. I usually don't rate or review things much anymore but I still check before I buy and this one is a little more money than I usually spend. But it was well worth it. Can't wait for the next one.

Didn't really enjoy this one. Although I like a situation with some forceful, passionate sex, this book took it to another level. Basically everyone is/has raped or wants to rape the ever beautiful, innocent Joron. Like WHAT?!! So yeah, you get the point.

When the King finds out that it was Joron that he kissed he makes a deal he would release his sister if he takes her place in his bed and he accepts. King Blade Rain has taken the crown he is Joron's half brother. Blade Rain wants Joron and will do anything to get him. This was a good read and my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

My first time reading this book I remembered I loved it and gave it 5 stars. After reading it again I can say I still really like it but I think this is more of a 4 star read.
A few things in this book reminds me of a stereotypical mf romance where the girl doesn't realize her beauty even though everyone is tripping all over themselves whenever she walks in, oh and don't forget that said girl is good and kind hearted and helps everyone with everything.... That's Joran.
Now I love books with truly kind hearted characters and I will say Joran is written in such a way that it's believable that he's so nice and doesn't come off as ott and fake niceness. What I will complain about is the amount of people who are obsessed with him. Seriously, it's legit everyone except the Queen. Even his brother wants him and tries to rape him every chance he gets.
The first time I read this I remember I loved King Aric but now I'm wondering if I wasn't paying attention the first time I read this. The first time Joran & Aric sit down and talk was ridiculous and made me want to kick Aric in the face. Throughout the book he seems to get better and stop being so pushy but something about him got under my skin and not in a good way.
Overall it is still a good story and I'd recommend it.

Another excellent book by Hurri Cosmo! This story had me captivated! I felt like I was in the story with characters! While reading the story I felt anger at some of the characters along with love for the characters. It is very easy to get engrossed in this story and before you know it time flies. Highly recommend you read this book!

Really loved this book. Can't wait for the next one. Very plot heavy and a ton of great characters. It isn't just a couple of MC's falling in love that is so common with this genre, there is life here and conflict and good guys and bad guys and some guys you are not all that sure which side they are on. Wish the next one was out sooner. May need to read this again when it does come out.

This was an engaging read. The MC has a lot on his shoulders and although surrounded by a host of strong supporting characters (either to his benefit and detriment), he doesn't lose character.

I didn't put it down till the end. Can't wait for the sequel. It promises more action and reveals (I think!)

Am still trying to figure this book out, well written, will say that. Some of the characters are captivating like Prince Joron and King Aric, and Joron's sister Liarta. Now our sweet Prince is hiding from a cruel stepmother and a brother who is way interested in his brother and not the sibling way.
The first time Joron and Aric met, Aric thought it was a woman whom he rescued and kissed, not able to keep her of his mind he went to negotiate a marriage to Liarta , imagine his surprise when he discovers Prince Joron is said maiden in distress he kissed.
Kisses and possible love fly in the air as intrigue is all around both of them.

Entertaining fairy tale for adults

I am really surprised that this book have souch low stars. It's a great book. It make me laugh beacuse it was like some comedy of confusion when Prince Joron was dressed like a girl. I loved Prince Joron very much. He will make a great princess. Why the female characters are not like him? I'm so tired of sassy heroines. Princ Joron is kind, he want to help everyone, he is gentle( when he hit the guard to free himself he was concernd for the guard), he want to learn and emprove( when he is in Claymoor Doom), he have a pure childish soul ( even after lost his virginity) and he is beautiful. He is perfect! No wonder everyone lust on him. I would too myself. I even loved king Daigus. Ok, he assault Joron many times( how to blame him?) but I can feel he really love Joron( he ask for forgiveness, he is not satisfied with any other sex partner, he console Joron, he want Joron always near, he tenderly hug him) The real villain is King Aric. He force Joron, blackmail him, practically rape him( we can't cinsider it a proper rape beacuse Joron is willing but he certainly not secuce him but just take him), imprison Joron in Aric room (Joron try to escape) even took his clothes and force him to stay naked waiting in the room for him. For all this reasons I hate King Aric even if Joron love him. But anyway the steamy scenes were HOT! I just hate these possessive alfa males who scream : She is MINE!, or in this case He is mine but it don't change everything. I can't understand why so many books have this irritating alfa males. King Aric make me question to buy or not the next book, bracuse I can tell he is not going to be any better. But I had fun with this book and this characters and I read many books that didn't entertain me so this one certainly earn five stars.

While the idea for the book is interesting and quite developed, it's too overly emotional in execution.
All the characters are too extreme to be believable, Joron is 'intelligent' but incredibly dim. Every description of him is either about his beauty, or his childishness. He's apparently child sized, childlike yet incredibly insightful. He's so stunningly beautiful the only ones who he doesn't affect are his sister, father and step mother, but the lust that every character feels for him is so extreme it just sounds wrong. Not everyone has the same tastes, but everyone turns into a lecherous rapist when he's around.
Most of the issues are caused because of egos, not admitting the truth of their feelings disguised as love for Joron which would have resolved the issues much sooner by being social and open.
There are points where Joron fears for his safety, then immediately puts himself in danger, or is suddenly locked away to keep him safe from a person who doesn't actually know his location, making all the characters look quick to react extremely, but slow to actually think through issues.
Aric, for a 'slut king' is quite basic if he was only able to get it up once a night before Joron came along, that coupled with the fact he would give his bed partner anything they wanted from a single roll in the sack makes him seem incredibly naive and spendthrift for a 'great king'.

Overall for 300+ pages, the book felt rushed and sloppy. There were a lot of repetitious lust that added nothing to the story and the occasional detail that had no merit to the story but took several pages to describe.
All characters had the maximum of three possible responses to anything that happened to them and it just portrayed them as shallow and lacking in genuine atributes.
If the characters had more emotion and thought, the plot could have had more merit but there were too many rushed tangents that left the story dull.

I got about halfway through before I couldn't take it anymore.

This is the story of Joron. He is the most perfect perfection of princeliness that has ever walked the planet. He risks his life every day to defy his father and help the needy in his kingdom. He's kind and sweet and shy and his only goal in life is to build hospitals to help the sick. He is also the epitome of sexual perfection. Apparently everyone, and I mean everyone, loves young androgynous Joron. He is small and smooth and soft, with big puppy eyes that make every single person who has any contact with him become filled with lust.

Just to list of few of those who desire Joron

His brother
His personal servant
Various castle servants
Peasants
Alric
Alrics head guard
Stable servant
Various palace guards
Alrics personal assistant

And that just in the 1st 50% o.O

So, while I'm not a fan of Mary Jane MC's who ride rainbows and poop flowers, I usually don't let it bother me. What really upset me, and is the reason this was a DNF for me, was the almost obsessive determination on the authors part to portray Jordon as a child. His age is never given, and honestly, he came across as maybe 15, and a really young 15. The author goes out of the way to make Joron young and innocent. He has never had sex, but also never even had a lustful thought. He is all smooth softness and shy blushes. His petite build coupled with the fact that the other characters are constantly referring to him as boy, or kid, or worst going so far as to call him a child, is creepy!

This ended up feeling like the story of a prepubescent boy who runs away from one would be rapist, only to be blackmailed in to an older more powerful mans bed. :/ Where's Chris Hansen when you need him!?

Ugh. I got seduced by the cover. I should've listened to the reviews.

Despite the bad writing, the obvious lack of editing, the non-existent worldbuilding and the rapey characters, I somehow managed to finish this book.

Let me give you some examples:

The bad writing:
The writing is very simple and often awkward, resembling bad fanfiction. On the first few pages alone, you will find gems like:

"He looked up and was shocked the man was gone. He looked around but the man had disappeared."

or

"That only heightened his allure, like he was fresh from bed, which he was."

description

The lack of editing:
There are typos and missing words

The non-existent worldbuilding:
"Claymoor Doom had always been a rich kingdom. One of the largest, it boasted many natural resources."

description

Like...could you be any more vague?

The rapey characters:
In what world is it ok to forcefully kiss and grope a woman you've literally JUST rescued from attempted rape? And in what world would the woman be into that?!?

Seriously, Aric is constantly thinking rapey thoughts and somehow he's the "good guy".

Some other thoughts of mine..
- What the frick kind of name for a Kingdom is "Blade Rain"?
- Please, I never again want to hear the expression "secret place" in connection with body parts.
- Aric should get his penis checked out because I'm pretty sure it's not normal to get aroused as much as he does.

Now, I need some much deserved sleep after reading this.

I couldn't finish this one. 13% (says my kindle app) and I just could not handle the way the romantic interest, clearly identifiable even without remembering the blurb, looked at the main character in the most objectifying manner. I was so disgusted with the way he lusted after a stranger without even considering that he was looking at a person not a sex doll. The implication of being interested in more than sex was there but so barely. And after a sexual assault a few pages prior, naaah. Just, naaah! The trope of someone being too beautiful/attractive/sexy/... for others to control themselves around them is too damaging that I want to read about it in my (fantasy) romance novels. Also, grown men who cannot control their sexual urges (and it is validated by the aforementioned trope): YIKES!

Fair warning; this is a big fat 'just freaking ends' book. Don't get me wrong, I sometimes enjoy tension, even a bit of a cliffhanger, if done right. No, my problem is this is the sort that ends almost mid sentence. It doesn't have any sense of the book being done, the king asks someone a question and then the book just finishes. I like my book to actually be clear it has just finished, not hanging there in a way that leaves you wondering if you lost a page or something.

Now, the book itself. It does have some issues of which to gripe about as well, but it also has enough story to keep be interested and wanting to go on. Really it all boils down to the royals; they pretty much suck. And I mean re-he-HEALY suck. Even the good guy, King Aric, pretty much thinks with his cock at first when it comes to Joron. Other than Joron and his sister the royals in this book are out for themselves and will kill, maim, demean, and break anyone who gets in the way of their greed, power, lust, and lust for power. They are a convoluted and despicable lot and you want the kingdoms to get them gone because it seems they are pretty much screwing everything up.

Well, in comes Joron. He is a saint. Almost literally. The guy knows he has it good and is trying to make it good for everyone in the kingdom. He goes undercover around his father, the king, to make things right. Then he plans to continue it when his brother takes charge and really hopes to be able to bring his brother in on it. My only problem was his beauty. Joron is a strikingly beautiful man, so much so that everyone pretty much falls in love and wants to possess and protect him. It just irked me that he has absolutely no clue he was beautiful. That can sometimes work, having a naive innocent, but the man genuinely didn't even know he was good looking, or that people would look at him sexually, or anything. That seemed a bit too much. If you were that beautiful you could realize it while still being humble- this just made him seem like an airhead, which he really wasn't.

There is a lot of focus on sex, as well as on everyone wanting to do Joron. Really a good chunk of the first third of the book is him almost getting raped. But at the same time it really built up the tension and did seem to work well for the story. But fair warning, if that is going to bother you, this book is going to bother you.

There are lots of lines of thought going on in this book, each character working their own machinations to get what they want. It has an interesting Gordian Knot thing going on and I really want to read the next book to see it all slowly get untied. There is a fair amount of intrigue mixed into the sex, as well as a desperation to make things right. I hated that it ended so inexpertly, but I am interested in finding out how the interwoven stories of these two kingdoms come to pass. There is something there and it is enough of a story that I am still on board for more.

I think the author of this book have read too many yaoi mangas. I see a classic pattern here, which is in no way a bad thing since I did enjoy this book a little bit too much. We got: young feminine male main character who need constant protection, hot older masculine possessive love interest, bunch of random guys who are attract to the young man.

Prince Joron is the guy everybody wants. He is so pretty, small & slim that he can easily pass for a woman. He is basically the damsel in distress than need protecting but he is a guy instead.
Even his step brother Diagus is molesting him and have a strange unhealthy obsession with him. His personal guard keep thinking about touching him also.

While trying to pass incognito dress up as a woman to deliver some medicine to a poor peasant, the young prince get attack, almost rape and save by King Alric Tamusi of Claymmor Door (who is describe as godlike of course). As a reward, the king asks the “lady” for a kiss (well asking is a big word because he kind of force himself on Joron). Anyway, this awake something new in the young prince, an attraction he never felt before.
King Alric mistake Joron for the princess and ask her hand in marriage to Diagus, who now have become king. Diagus, thinking this is about his sister Liara agree so the right price, even if she is already promise to a Duke. Joron decide to take matters in his own hand and visit Alric to make him change his mind.
When Alric finally figure out that Joron is the damsel in distress and prince, he accepts to release Liara if the young man give himself in exchange.
The rest of the book is ¾ sexy scenes and ¼ story evolution.
This is not great literature, but it still so fun and quite short to read. Even if their relationship is cliché, it did like Alric & Joron and will surely pick up the second book.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3 stars

I’m always up for a good fantasy romance, the more swords and castles and knights the better. Add in politics, intrigue, and complex characters and I’m not putting the book down until it’s been fully devoured!

The book opens well with Queen Erora taking the center stage. She exudes that intelligent practicality of a good villain. Unfortunately, the book is set up for Diagus to be the primary antagonist and he’s just not as interesting as his mother. His obsession with Joron is based on two things: Joron’s beauty and the desire to take something people tell him he shouldn’t take. His lust for his brother, though they aren’t related by blood, obscures rationality and common sense and he ends up frightening Joron and chasing him away rather than wooing him, something he’s aware of but unable to keep from doing.

Aric’s own obsession for Joron is just as shallow. It’s lust at first sight and the desire to own something beautiful, to possess it and make it his. As he gets to know Joron better, Aric comes to respect the young prince a little more. However, I don’t get the feeling that, no matter what Ric says, he’s falling in love. He’s obsessed and trying to find justifications for his obsession as Joron becomes more of a person and less of an ideal.

Reposted!! I have been meaning to repost my review but it kept slipping my mind, because priorities! Anyhow, to the troll who flagged the below review, nice try [notice the sarcasm], but NO CIGAR [!!], as I am NOT violating Goodreads's ToS in any way, shape, or form, nor have I ever, and nor do I intend to!! I have correspondence and proof of that fact!! This review, as always, is my opinion of THE BOOK and NOT of the author, something I have a legitimate right to (under Goodreads's ToS)!!

So, instead of flagging something simply because you don't like the fact that someone else's opinion differs from your own, how about finding something much more constructive to do, like, oh I don't know, READING A BOOK??!!

REPOSTED REVIEW CLEARED BY GOODREADS::

The blurb is weird and uninspiring, the reviews are negative (and seem to serve as a warning), and I'm really put off by the fact that the cover looks way too much like it's deliberately copying C.S. Pacat's "Captive Prince" trilogy [which was ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BRILLIANT, by the way]!! Nope. Pass. Not for me!!

P.S. The more I think about it, the more put off I am! Look at the new covers for the "Captive Prince" books! I smell a copycat and his name is Hurri Cosmo! NOT cool!!

This book was a really fun read, but it is so ridiculous. Every single person who sees Joron falls madly in love with him, including his brother. Hilariously, every man that comes across Joron simply can't control themselves and immediately go caveman for his delicate charms. There was at least three attempted rapes, but I might have lost track. That paired with the over the top drama makes for a wild ride. Just as long as you remember not to take the story too seriously.

The Servant Prince by Hurri Cosmo satisfied many cravings I had. I had cravings for a royal intrigue and drama. Check. I had cravings for some dubcon/noncon. Check. I had cravings for a man so beautiful that he had a face like Helen of Troy and caused a war between nations. Check. I had cravings for some age gap. Check. I had cravings for some taboo. Check.

It does end in a cliffhanger so beware and I'm looking forward to the next book.
