For two blissful years, Katie McCloud has been a mother to Dawn and wife to Dr. Alex Peters. But the violent unrest that brought them all together is once again erupting into their lives. Sent to Cuba to help care for hurricane survivors, Katie and Alex are thrust back into the thick of international espionage—this time, on opposite sides.
Katie thought she'd made peace with the secrets locked tight behind Alex's handsome, brooding facade. But faced with a new danger, those secrets threaten the very bond that holds them together. And Alex? He's finding out that what he holds most precious—Katie and tiny Dawn—is making him way too vulnerable. He's going to have to make a choice…before it's too late.
Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.
Walau sebelumnya Alex sempat keberatan dgn keikutsertaan Katie, akhirnya tak kuasa jg menolak kekeraskepalaan Katie.
COULDN'T AGREE MORE.
"Lovers of Dees’ Doctors Unlimited series will adore this high-stakes, fast-paced sequel to Close Pursuit. She delves into her hero’s tormented past and twisted psyche in detail and consistently highlights the strength, perceptiveness and sagacity of the heroine who has the strength to save him. The internal conflicts are inextricably linked with the international conspiracies and plots, increasing the tension in each scene exponentially and creating a pulse-pounding adventure that will keep readers enthralled" (RT Book Reviews). 4 1/2 stars
Buku ke-2 ini lebih seru dari yg pertama. Adrenalin pembaca dipompa perlahan2 hingga akhir. Kali ini konflik kepercayaan antara Kat & Alex yg mengemuka pasca Alex mengikuti pelatihan CIA. Di samping keterlibatan mereka berdua yg tanpa sengaja ternyata mengusik operasi pimpinan wanita yg melahirkan Alex. Merasa terganggu, si wanita rela membunuh Kat dan membuat Alex mengalami paranoid tingkat tinggi melalui obat suntik dosis tinggi. Gw suka dgn aksi2 mrk di sini. Ga tokoh jahat, ga tokoh baik. Semua maksimal. Aksi kejar2an dan baku tembaknya bikin tegang. Persis kayak nonton film deh.

This is the second book in the series and it is a fitting conclusion to our look into the complicated relationship between Alex Peters and Katie McCloud. That being said, it’s imperative that you read the first book before you read this one as you will not truly understand how everything progressed. There is a lot that happens and plenty of things get resolved or at least addressed that were significant issues from the first book. In fact, so much happens that I can’t really get into much details without giving away all of the great things about this book.
Alex and Katie are a very mismatched couple that somehow complement each other very well. He is a reluctant CIA agent with Mommy and Daddy issues. She is a grounded, kindergarten teacher with a loving family where all of the males are in law enforcement or the military. Katie is still showing Alex what it means to love someone and Alex is still trying to show Katie that there is plenty of evil in the world. Katie finally witnesses the extent of this evil when she insists on accompanying Alex on a Doctors Unlimited assignment to Cuba. Consequently, they spend a large amount of time running for their lives and they don’t know who to trust.
Hot Intent was just as exciting as the first book, Close Pursuit, and it would be great if the author opted to add a third book although it was probably a fitting conclusion. The suspense was heart pounding as Alex tried to figure out if there was a mole in the CIA or if there is something else going on entirely. Either way, someone is way ahead of them and at some point they go on the offensive. It’s great to see Alex embrace the spy that his father has been training him to be his entire life. It’s equally satisfying to see Katie shed her naive persona and embrace the strong, brave woman that she is. As expected, there is also plenty of erotic moments between the two of them. There is so much more depth to the story but if I told you, I would have to kill you.
I flew through the pages. Cindy Dees has a great style of writing that makes every page and adventure that is action packed. This is the first book of hers that I read and I do plan on reading more.
This was a great book and a great story of love and the need to make love survive no matter what happens.
I feel like this book is the 2nd in the series and that I was missing part of the story. I did really enjoy the characters, the story and both the antagonists and protagonists. best part? the happy ending :-)
