What readers are saying: Debra always delivers... Couldn't put it down! Debra gives readers what they want. I've read every book Debra Clopton has written and as usual I couldn't put this one down!
I read all of Debra's books because her character's are so "real life" and the storylines are awesome! This is the final book in the Cowboys of Sunrise Ranch series but it's also a stand alone book. I really liked the emotional theme of the book - a widow, Suzie, and her teenage son, Abe, turn to Tucker for help even though Suzie believes that Tucker is responsible for her husband's death in the military. Tucker and her husband grew up together and were like brothers. Tucker is still dealing with that death too and will do anything to help Suzie with Abe who is dealing with his father's death by acting out and getting into trouble. When Suzie and Tucker start becoming attracted to each other, they can't believe it and try to fight it because everything has to be about helping Abe. Debra writes about the true emotions of a teenager trying to come to terms with the death of a father and being moved to a new place when he doesn't want to. the grief involved in both Abe and Suzie AND Tucker. The backdrop is the ranch where foster boys are taken in and nurtured so it's a beautiful story of unconditional love and support. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend it!
To know me, is to know I’m a huge lover of books, and have my favorite authors. One of them being DEBRA CLOPTON. HER UNLIKELY COWBOY is well written – no surprise there. The characters are easy to connect with, and will come to life. I have always loved MS CLOPTONS feisty characters, though the hero and heroine in HER UNLIKELY COWBOY seem to be a bit more tame then her typical style.
That last thing Suzie Kent wants to do is turn to Tucker McDermott for help. When she finds herself at the end of the rope with her teenage son, that’s exactly what she does.
Tucker McDermott jumps at the chance to make up for the lost of his brother by helping out his widow and son. It’s the least he can do after what this brother did for Tucker.
Love the McDermott’s. MS CLOPTON delivered some amazing lines, with a plot that will have you settling right into the story as if you were there. Can’t wait for her next.
I am so honored to say I have had the pleasure of reading all three books in Debra Clopton's Cowboys of Sunrise Ranch series. Debra Clopton has a special talent of creating such wonderful characters that have amazing characteristics and usually have a broken heart or have been emotionally hurt. I love bonding with these characters and watching them grow stronger emotionally. Ms. Clopton has a way of breaking my heart with her story lines but finding just the right path for her characters that leaves my heart so warm.
Suzie Kent arrives at the Sunrise Ranch with her son Abe. They both have a broken heart and are hurting so bad from the loss of their husband and father. They both hold a little resentment towards Tucker because they lost their loved one and Tucker is still alive. However Tucker is determined to help these two wounded souls find their way to a new happy life.
Tucker has no intention of falling in love with Suzie and Suzie of course has no intention of falling in love at all. However once these two start to share their loss and work together to heal their attraction and love grow.
This is an awesome story of lost love, new found love, and healing after a major loss. What better place could there possibly be to go to heal then the Sunrise Ranch. This ranch is full of caring and loving people that have a way of helping each other heal.
I have loved this whole series and it would be hard to pick a favorite book out of these three wonderful heart warming tales. So I'm not even going to try. I think if you enjoy a very inspirational story of characters that I think you will bond with quickly then you need to check out Debra Clopton's work. I think you'll love this series but I happen to know she has other great books as well. I have had the pleasure of reading a few of those as well.
I was given the opportunity to read this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Her Unlikely Cowboy.
This is the third book in the Cowboys of Sunrise Ranch Series. I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and heart warming. I think you will really enjoy this story too. Debra's books are always entertaining.
Widow Suzie Kent was at her wits end on what to do with her son. She contacts the one man she blames for her husband's death but her husband had told her to contact him if she ever needed help. He had become a brother to this man. He tells her to bring her son to Sunrise Ranch and they well help him. The ranch took in boys in trouble and gave them a family. Her husband had been one of these boys. She doesn't even get to the ranch before she runs into the man. How is she going to handle this situation? Why is she attracted to this man?
Sheriff Tucker McDermott is trying to move a herd donkey's off the road when he runs into Suzie and her son. He can feel the hatred flowing from the beautiful Suzie. How can they help the boy when she blames him for her husbands death? He knows it's his fault that his brother died by taking a bullet for him. Can they get past his guilt and her blaming him to help this boy? It will take the whole ranch to turn this boy around.
A journey of three brokenhearted souls struggling to get over the past and find the future that God has prepared for them. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your hearts and watch him turn your life around.
This is the 1st book I read by Debra Clopton. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the Christian ✝️ theme in this story. Suzie's character was okay. Tucker's character was okay. I liked the ending.
Unlikely Cowboy by Debra Clopton Cowboys of Dew Drop, Texas Sheriff Tucker McDermott loves his family’s ranch, but after coming home from being a marine, he ran for sheriff—and won. But the sorrow and guilt of losing a friend, a brother, in the war weighs heavily on him. So when he has a chance to help his friend’s wife and son, he jumps at the opportunity to bring them to Sunrise Ranch. Suzie Kent not only lost her husband two years ago, but now she’s losing her son too. The once happy boy is now a sullen teenager who will end up in jail if she doesn’t get him away from the crowd he’s been hanging out with. An incredible series with the most adorable characters. I suggest starting with book one to have the full pictures of what’s happening. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
This is a story of forgiveness but the who or what is not as obvious as it seems. Suzie Kent blames Tucker McDermott for her husband’s death and Tucker blames himself, but they are both wrong. Debra Clopton has again done what she does best, bring us a story that pulls you in and compels you to keep reading. It was good to visit the Sunrise Ranch and Dew Drop, Texas, again. Suzie is right in deciding that Sunrise Ranch and Tucker are right for her son. I really enjoyed this story.
The writing poses a challenge to my reading enjoyment, as I am mentally editing as I go.
Example One
"She and Abe strained forward against their seat belts with the force" (page 8)...[of a braking vehicle, which is mentioned immediately before this sentence].
This is where passive voice makes more sense, as the protagonist and Abe are not actually straining forward. Someone might strain (forward) to reach something, for example, but in this case, the force is throwing the two against their seat belts. The seat belts could strain under their weight, but someone in an accident would not typically strain his/her body forward more.
Example Two
Same page, two sequential sentences: 1. "...struggling to get up... 2. "...as he struggled to one knee..."
Thesaurus? Not to mention ordering problems (that are not necessarily apparent in the above quotes).
Example Three
For some inexplicable reason, the donkey that kicks the officer is described as "cute" (p. 8). If you have ever been kicked by a donkey or know someone who has, "cute" is not a word that comes to mind. Even without a solid kicking and even if someone thinks donkeys are "just adorable," the speaker would not have sufficient time in the opening to determine a donkey's "cuteness" factor.
Just for Fun
I do not normally mention the front book covers, as I rarely look at them, but this one is particularly funny, as the protagonist has a fifteen-year-old son, and the couple on the front are solidly somewhere between the ages of 22-28.
In Short
Page 8 is actually the second page, so that means I made it two pages before the cognitive burden outweighed any potential enjoyment of the story.
Hard enough without loosing your best especially when he steps in front of you to take the bullet meant for you. How can you face his friend’s wife and son without feeling like you were suppose to die instead of your friend. How can you get over the guilt you can’t. Read now. Awesome book.
Guilt, forgiveness, and learning to live again are the themes of this book. Suzie Kent comes to Sunrise Ranch seeking help from Tucker, whom she blames for the death of her husband. Her teenage son is getting into trouble, and the ranch is her last resort. It doesn't take long for her to realize why her late husband loved the ranch so much, and why Tucker may just not be as bad as she always thought.
Suzie fights with the fact that Tucker is the reason her husband is dead. It is unfounded guilt she's placing on him, and she doesn't realize that blaming him also causes her troubled son to place blame on Tucker as well. Tucker's two other brothers are also seen in this story with their wives, whom they met in previous books.
The romance is very sweet and very realistic. I liked the relationship formed between Tucker and Abe, Suzie's son. Abe's anger was very realistic.
Unfortunately, not everything in real life is so easily resolved...
This is the third in a trilogy of the McDermott brothers.
Suzie Kent has come to Dew Drop to enlist the help of the Sunshine Ranch and Tucker McDermott in a last ditch effort to save her son. Her marine husband had been killed saving Tucker's life and Abe has taken his dad's death as abandonment. Glenn had been partially raised on Sunshine Ranch when he was a boy who had been abandoned by his own family and told Suzie to come there if she every needed anything. The Ranch family was now his own family. Sunshine Ranch dealt with abandoned boys. Can the ranch help Abe?
Suzie has to overcome her dislike for Tucker and see that it was not his fault that Glenn gave his life for him. Tucker on the other hand, has to see the same thing. He holds a lot of guilt in him for his "brother's death". Can the two sort out their differences or at least put them aside to help Abe before it is too late?
Though this is the 3rd in a trilogy, it is the first one that I've read and had no problems starting on the last book.. Debra Clopton has a talent for making her characters real and full of emotion. The story is of a young widow and her son. She not only has to deal with the loss of her husband, but she must find a way to help her son who has become angry and troubled. The last person she wants to turn to is the man she holds responsible for her husbands death, but if he can help her son she has to give it a try. I enjoyed reading this very emotional book and watch as the characters tried to work through their problems and find new hope.
I'm sorry I haven't read this book yet. The review I originally posted was for "First Kisses (An Inspy Novella), which included "Her Mule Hollow Cowboy." It's a great book I would recommend to everyone.
Inspired by the story of a local soldier, Clopton had written a touching story about how to recover from loss and overcome guilt. Her characters are touching and their plight honest. A great read with a happy ending.
Suzie Kent brings her son Abe to Sunrise Ranch as a last resort. Tucker McDermott, the town sheriff, is still grieving over the loss of his friend and Suzie's husband. Can they make things better for Abe?
Good story of two people needing to find each other. Forgiveness for events in ones life that you have had no control over is hard when forgiving seems to be letting go too soon. Have enjoyed other Debra Clopton books and expect to read more in the future.
