I really enjoyed this book for 2 important reasons. Firstly, the content of what Edmund Chan writes is excellent, and his insights into many of the familiar scriptures is also amazing. I found myself reading and wondering why I never saw such and such before.

Secondly, I found God speaking to me through this book on multiple occasions. Indeed, the timing of the chapters and the way they coincided with events in my own life were uncanny... or to use an Edmund Chan term, a "divine appointment".

So yes, I would strongly recommend this book to anyone... 5 stars... easy to read, full of truth, and well written.

In the serendipitous grace of the moment, I understood prayer. The deepest kind of prayer on earth is the song in the night which declares how great God is in spite of the the pain.

Basically this is a book about prayer. Do you feel like you know everything about prayer? Read it. Know nothing about prayer? Read it. Pastor Edmund Chan offers us fresh perspectives and debunks the misconceptions on prayer in this well-structured book. He makes us realize that God is not a Divine person that grants us anything that we wish if we decided. to follow Him. He does not proceed into talking about the procedures of prayer; he does not even talk about how to pray. He teaches us that we discover the spiritual discipline of prayer on our own, when we actually pray. We learn how to pray when we pray. If there was one thing that I would want to remember about this book, it would be this--prayer is not man talking to God, it is when God talks and reveals Himself to man. The beauty of prayer is that we actually shift from an anthropocentric view to a theocentric one in which we lay down all our weapons in battle and actually surrender and trust God of how much more in our circumstances in life.

Nothing that I could say could add to the value of this book. No other book I have read has made me desire to grow deeper with God than what Edmund Chan describes here. While reading, I felt Edmund Chan was alongside me, mentoring me on the way to go and the way back to Christ. Although there are days when I still falter in my prayer life, there is greater strength in it than what I once possessed and because of that, I am grateful to the Holy Spirit for leading Edmund Chan to write this book. Thank you.

After reading this book, I truly understood the importance and meaning of prayer. It is not so much on asking God to hear us, but to seek His presence and hear Him speak instead. Not only are there important lessons taught from Rev Edmund Chan's stories, but there are also expositions from the Bible which are very well written and explained. Will definitely re-read this book again!

This book takes me back to the basic. I recommend it to you guys out there. Eyes wide open yeah! 🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Prayer is not merely what we say to God but what the Holy Spirit inspires in our hearts to lift up before the throne of God. Biblical narratives are historical records with a theological purpose.

The importance of knowing what prayer means is stated in this book… that God already knows what we wanted to ask before we even say it. All He wants is our mustard seed faith in Him alone, nothing else. If you desire to grow deeper in believing in God, this book narrated His necessity in our lives and summarizes why He should be the King in our hearts. ❤️

Prayer is more about God than us. We are to come to God without shame because we see and delight in God as He really is - the God of the “how much more”! Worth reading

Everything I've ever read of Edmund Chan is so good and the book ends up really marked up.

In the chapter on Abraham, I appreciated this quote: Obedience as an event is often easier than obedience as a process. To "go forth" the first time we are called is easier than to "keep going forth."

Edmund Chan has an excellent discussion on how to develop deep relationship with God (mainly on how to do this through prayer). The book shows that he indeed has a very deep relationship with God. However, Part 3 was a bit confusing, because the points he wants to make can be better illustrated by Scripture passages other than what he quoted in the book!

Overall, this is quite a good book, both inspiring and encouraging. Try it if you really want to go deep in relationship with the Lord.

Chan's book challenges me to a more God-centered life of consistent prayer.

His book is well written and covers a lot of theology behind prayer (although it is not a theology treatise).

He covers lessons from: the Lord's Prayer, the Sermon on the Mount, Hebrews, Ephesians, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Rahab, David, Jehoshaphat.

Prayer is to be God-centered. He is the God of "how much more" and He is willing. It should start with thanksgiving. Prayer essentially is surrender.

Practical stories, humor, ideas for fasting.

This is a book to integrate into my life. It is a good book to read and re-read.

1) God is the God of so much more
2) I am nothing and I can do nothing
3) God is extravagantly loving towards us
4) Meditate on the immensity of Jesus Christ

An insightful understanding about prayer. Prayer reveals who God is. One who wants to give for best interest of His child .

This was the first book I read from Edmund Chan and since then I crave to read other Christian books. I really appreciate his insight about the importance of prayer in Christian life with the scripture that back up his writings. Highly recommended for every Christian and everyone who wanted to learn more about prayer.

Prayer is not about getting what we want, but doing what God wants. - Edmund Chan

The pinnacle of PRAYER draws us back to the Father and remind us afresh that we are primarily spiritual beings operating with a physical body to fulfil the redemptive purposes of God in a fallen physical world. - Edmund Chan
