Fly By Midnight is the second exciting story of the Mayhem sisters, Vivi, Honora, and Clover.
In the witching world of Everland, Stargazer City is pulsing with magical energy and that’s just the way a natural-born flyer like Honora Mayhem likes it. When one of the most important wizards in Everland goes missing, the youngest Mayhem Sister, who happens to be one of the witching world’s up-and-coming young private investigators, is hot on the case.
With help from her flying club, a rival PI, and her trusted assistant, Honora digs up some promising clues—unsettling questions—about the wizard’s disappearance. Why did the police dismiss the case so quickly, and why is Honora getting the runaround from the Witch Council? After a nasty encounter with a Hex Division agent in the city’s magic district, she fears the council maybe working against her on a case that suddenly seems to concern something far more serious than one missing wizard.
In a dogged attempt at discovering the truth, Honora travels to the fabled North Woods where she meets a handsome ax-wielding tracker who guides her deep into the icy wilderness, home to rogue wildlife and practitioners of powerful and secretive magic.
What Honora discovers is a devious force from the Otherworld whose ambitions endanger the entire witching world. Besides her own wits and stubbornness, Honora must rely on her sisters for strength and guidance, not to mention Vivi’s potion-making skills, to fight a dark evil and return order to Everland, so she can fly by midnight in peace.
Brimming with magic, mayhem, and a trio of cunning sister witches, Fly By Midnight is a paranormal mystery with twists and turns you won’t see coming.
Another great installment in this series. The characters get more developed and they grow with each chapter. Any thing is possible if you are a Mayhem sister.....Looking forward to the next book in this series. In Everland you never know what you might find.
I read this book cover to cover in one sitting. I very much enjoyed the first novel but the author has found her feet with this one and it delivered a breakneck, exciting and enthralling read. At several points during the final battle I was holding my breath with my eyes wide open, desperately rooting for Honora. Please, please, please, if you read nothing this summer, read this.
I almost stop reading after 40 pages but thought I would continue because it started slow & I was sure it would pick up soon. I had read too many cozy witch books & this was just different. After a few more pages I really got into it. Ended with happiness & set up for the next.
two and a half stars. Much darker and more of an action story than a mystery. Magic just made it now action oriented not more interesting. It was a poor fast and furious. I don't like action books, movies sure; it was not what I expected
I am always happy to pick up a new series and find it worthy of following and this one has a tick mark next to all the subjects to keep me reading; magic, romance, mystery and mayhem. This was a great story and I do look forward to more.
Honora Mayhem takes on a missing husband's case, curious why the police and other private investigators failed to locate him. Not until Honora travels to the North Woods and learns exactly who Jonathon Raines is and why his is hiding does she understand that Everland is in danger from the otherworld. Can Honora accept her mother's explanation for disappearing for ten years or will she walk away from her leaves readers flipping the pages to learn what Elsbeth has been up to. Honora is the sister who yearns for adventure, danger and a hot sexy man along the way. Fun series
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
"Fly By Midnight" is the second book in "A Sister Witches Mystery" by Lauren Quick. Honora Mayhem, Stargazer City's very own flyer PI is the featured sister this story. As a flyer, Honora is faster, stronger, and can bounce back much quicker than the average witch. She uses her special gift to earn a living investigating crimes around the witchy world of Everland's largest city. Follow Honora as her search for a missing wizard has her look a little closer into the witchy world's governing body to heading up to the mysterious North Woods. Overall, this story is fairly different than the first in the series. There is more action and adventure, too.
The second book of the series was, in a few ways, a lot better than the first. There were a few spots, though, that I had issues with. Especially near the end during the last fight. I felt that things were overly rushed, too many things jammed in and overall, it wasn't really confusing but more amateurishly handled.
Still, the story was pretty good. I just think that the author tried to do too many twists and turns without taking enough time in the story to really work them in without coming off slapdash.
Being the third book of the trilogy I was definitely not disappointed. All of the books were intriguing and I definitely could hardly stop from putting down the book. Lauren's writing style is flawless when it comes to explaining what is going on and the definition of the characters. I was enthralled by the sister witches each having their own quirky lives yet always having time for each other. One of my favorite trilogies by far.
This book was way better than the first. The baby sister is an kick butt heroine. She thought her case was to find a missing husband but it turned out to be much more. Lies and deceit from his wife. Honora ends up helping him escape the wife and saving their world. This is a must read. Can't wait for book three.
Fun second installment of the Mayhem sisters - I really enjoyed Honora’s story. I would have liked a little more involvement of the other two sisters, but enjoyed the story none the less. If you liked the first book, you’ll enjoy this one as well. The adventure and quick pace of this book made for a fast and entertaining read.
The basis of this book is interesting, has the possibility of being good, needs more depth to her main characters, thoughts are a little to mild in her fighting scenes. If characters are tough they need to act like it, too soft.
I find the sisters enjoyable, believable, and entertaining. Even though they are witches, things do not always go the right way for them...the "Mayhem" makes you keep turning pages!
Thank you Lauren Quick for a great and fun read. I have enjoyed reading about the Mayhem Sisters. First we learned about Vivi And now Honora. Very good book to relax with for a couple of hours.
A fast and fun read about a group of sisters who also just so happen to be witches. The stories are fast paced but well written; I read the entire series in just a few days because I just couldn't get enough.
