Audrey Fitzgerald thinks her life is going moderately well for a 24-year-old (after all, perfectly-ever-afters are for saps). That is, life seems to be transpiring as conventionally expected until she catches her husband, who she has been legally bound to for only one month, in a comprising position with a tacky woman in fluorescent-lime heels. Needless to say, her unsteady world is turned wrong side-up and then over a few more times, leaving her lost, needy for human contact, and facing strange addictions in the form of coping mechanisms. Forced to face the changing circumstances of her increasingly pathetic life and with the growing need to escape her tough-love-doting friends and family, Audrey decides to take a trip to small-town Hades. There, she plans to confront the painful demise of her marriage, the reality of her frighteningly unplanned future, and the annoying-yet-comical guidance of a meddlesome mystery man with a story to tell. As is the case with her peculiar life up until this point, plans don't always go as, well, planned.

Though I may be a little (ok, A LOT) biased, some of my favourites things about this book (or, what I hope comes across through my writing) is that it offers a real, gritty, honest take on how you can feel when life plans go awry. It's about dealing with change, being truthful to yourself about what you want in life, and being open to taking a path you didn't think you'd ever come to. I hope you enjoy it as much as I (for the most part, except on days of writer's block) enjoyed writing it.
