Sequel to THE LONG TRAIL. Jack McCabe returns home to Montana from medical school, but the family finds he is not exactly who they thought he was. A story of one man attempting to find himself while living in the shadow of a father who is a living legend. And an old enemy of Johnny McCabe returns, looking for blood. A story of family, love and revenge, and of the redemption of the human spirit.
Brad was born in rural New England and grew up reading Louis L'Amour, Luke Short, A.B Guthrie, Jr., and even Edgar Rice Burroughs. He knew at 14 he wanted to write for a living, and refused to give up the goal even when the odds seemed overwhelmingly against it. Now, thanks to Amazon, his stories are now available. He is a member of the Western Writers of America
Brad fell in love with the Old West at a very young age. It began with movies and old TV series like GUNSMOKE and BONANZA, and later expanded to western novels. This led to his study of western history. The pioneers, the Indians, the cattlemen, the gunfighters. His interest in history is not so much about wars and great leaders, but the people who lived on the land. And that's what he writes about. The people. He doesn't write about the old west as much as he writes about what it might have felt like to be there.
He loves contact from readers. He can be reached by email at mccabewesterns@gmail.com if you want to discuss his stories, or even just the American West in general.
The second book fared just as well as the first, and now I'm looking forward to the third in the series. I still can't believe I'm reading and enjoying a western story, but I'm not going to question it, but just stick around for the ride.
This is not a bad western but the author, I think, has been a bit too repetitive. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and recapping it to make this a stand alone is ok but there are descriptions here that are used over and over. Eliminating these would make the story a out a hundred pages shorter.
I have really enjoyed this book. This will be a great series to read. Brad Dennison is a great author I rate him up there with Louis LaMour , William W. Johnston, W.R. Benton and so many more great authors. Looking forward to the rest of The McCabes books.
Another great adventure starring The McCabes of Montana. Lots of action and human interaction with one another. The thoughts of marriage occurred as young as sixteen years old. You will read about it in this book. A lot of gunhawks seem to want meet and shoot it out with Johnny McCabe, I guess the gunner who outshots Johnny McCabe would become famous, but we all know that's not going to happen. Life in west wasn't easy, young people grew up fast. They could shoot a rifle, gun by the time they were ten years old. The need to provide meat for the family, protecting the families from Indian raids, banditos and whatever owlhoots robbing whomever they happened to meet on the prairies...a very rough, tough life that some didn't survive...ride easy everyone.
I enjoy the author's ability to emphasize virtuous character traits and noting that we all have more than one side to us. I enjoyed the action and historical accuracy incorporated into this fictional account of a family struggle. Reminiscent of the Sackett family novels written by Louis L'Amour.
I really like the the McCabe family. This book was interesting and the relationships tantalizing . I'm still very curious about Dusty's relationship with Haley . A searching trip is mentioned but no details.I like the pace of these books.I enjoy the dialog as well as a gun fights. I find the series very entertaining.
I really enjoyed this book. It was pretty much non stop action flowing smoothly from event to the other. It kept up with my morals and ethics. I'm getting a little tired of the books That I have to detail the sexual portions of them. This 1 left it up in the air As to what happened.
I will now continue the series And start reading thunder book #3.
I enjoyed this story because many face the battle of what people think they should do and what they want out of life. It is also hard to be in the shadow of anyone or to live with a mistake. Grace! And I love a good western story. The characters are great and the story is believable. Highly recommended.
Lively story about a frontier family in 1880s Montana. Although it is fiction, the early western hats were made from fur-felt. The Montana Stetsons had a distinct top crease. A "sombrero" is made from straw or reeds. Also by 1880, carbolic acid was used as disinfectant, considering they left Eastern med-school before arriving in Montana.
Read for pleasure and relaxation, not to critique. Therefore it is my belief that reviews should be written by recognized critics and that the star system should be sufficient because reviews are simply the reflection of the reader.
Great detail especially all the characters. Lots of action and romance. Really good story line with many twists and turns. Look forward to the next in the series.
The second McCabes book in the series. Jack McCabe returns from college for the summer. He not planning on going back. The book was kind of slow and I wasn't happy with the ending. A weak 3 stars.
Fun to read about the different people moving West to Montana and other places in the west. Being the great grandson of one of those homesteads I have met my Great slowly Grandmother and she was GREAT.
Brad Dennison wrote another wonderful McCabe adventure. Jack McCabe take center stage. I read this out of sync . As I read I kept going through all of the other novels and I thought to myself, I know these people and I even know this town.
I enjoyed the book very much Long full of twist and turns The characters are fantastic It will keep you guessing as to what's next. The author keeps you wondering just where we're headed Fantastic
Its hard growing up u see the shadow of a legend. This was very well written and I loved the suspense. I especially like Aunt Ginny. Great book. Highly recommend it.
The first of this series was good. Not super duper great, but good. Now, with this novel, the story becomes more complex, and richer, making books one and two greater than the sum of their parts.
This is the second book about the McCabes and I’m hooked. Will have to read every single one. Good action. Excellent story line. The ending was super good. Enjoyed every minute.
The first book was really good and I liked this one even better! Jessica had a rough time but a beautiful ending for her! Can't wait for the next book about this family!
Jack McCabe, youngest son of Johnny McCabe, has spent the last two years at Harvard to become a doctor he has no desire to be. Now he has to tell his family that he isn't going back. Lots of action here.
Much like L'Amour's westerns with scrapes and territorial feuds, honorable men who do what is right because it is the right thing to do, with a little romance and a bit of history thrown in...great reads!
