Five years ago, catastrophic earthquakes, massive floods, and violent storms caused the collapse of the global economy and a massive political upheaval. In a world thrown into chaos after The Great Fall, greedy CEO’s enforce the Golden Rule—whoever has the most gold, rules the land. Any hint of rebellion against the domineering government ends in either death or imprisonment.
Fiery and beautiful Cadence O’Bryant has trouble keeping silent against the new order, a trait that often lands her in trouble. Having lost her parents to rebellion, her life now is about survival. She despises the new order of life and wishes for time to turn back to when life held order, and love was a possibility, not an impossible dream. Her worst nightmare comes in the form of the Emperor’s decree—all young women are to compete in a competition of beauty, intelligence, and most of all obedience, for his son, Kellan’s, hand in marriage. Cadence fears not only to lose herself to the male dominated society that now prevails, but also that hers and her brother, Griffin’s, secret will be revealed, which would be a death sentence.
Determined and handsome Micah Greene harbors an even deeper secret than the fact he is in love with his best friend’s sister, Cadence. The secret is one his father died to protect, but it’s also one that unites him to Cadence and their cause. On the eve of their separation, Micah reveals his heart to Cadence. But is it too late? Is it possible he might lose the woman he loves to his nemesis, Kellan Quinn, the Emperor’s son.
Will Cadence be chosen by Kellan, or will she be able to choose her future? Will Kellan’s sexy good looks and promise of stability tempt Cadence to fall for the future Emperor and hurt her one true friend? Passion is burning, but for whom will it burn the brightest for?
As revolution brews in the province, love may need to take a back seat. Will Cadence have the option to love either man, or will she have to fight for everything she’s ever loved, including her freedom?

I am going to be short but not so sweet with my review. Even though Testament is quite short story, I still struggled with finishing it since book wasn’t holding my attention.
The premise of the story was perfect but overall execution not so much. Love triangle was totally unnecessary. It was mostly game of minds than hearts. Maybe it was supposed to be symbolic or something, but it just made heroine look slightly dense.
Talking about the heroine...she was all about "woman power", trying not to act like damsel in distress. But I never saw her as strong individual, more like rude teenager with attitude (yes, heroine is 17, not a mature woman).
If you are looking for dystopian action book, you won’t find it here. Testament is mostly about politics. If you are looking for standalone novel, once again, your probably won’t find it here. Whole story ends...nowhere. There was not even a cliffhanger. I am not sure if author plans to write sequel or not, but ending of this book felt too abrupt.
Cover Love! It's already out?! And it's a dystopian read?! I LOVE THESE

This was an interesting book with good characters. It really pains me to leave such a low star review. The reason for this is because the story is left completely unresolved. The book basically ends in the middle of the story and the author does not have a sequel planned. It was sold as a standalone novel. If at some point this book gets a sequel to continue the story - or it gets an ending - I would be happy to revise my rating to 4 stars at that time.
I love switching gears and throwing in a new genre to break up the monotony. With Katie Ashley's "Testament," that is exactly what happened. Whether she is writing about sexy rock stars, a teenage bounty hunter or a woman desperate to have a child, Katie spins a tale so intriguing and engaging that you don't put it down until you have read every word.
"Testament" was a quick but entertaining read. I don't as a general rule read dystopia novels but I am glad I read this one! Katie has weaved a brilliant storyline with religious roots, a small but significant romance and a kickass heroine with a fiery disposition to match her fiery red hair!
Cadence is living in a significantly different America. After the Great Fall and a complete shift in the socio-economic structure, women are just considered breeding vessels, nothing more, nothing less. Unless one of the rich CEO's and their families, everyone else is struggling and hurting.
The King/Ruler/CEO/Emperor is eager to see his son married off. He put together a beauty pageant requiring all 17 year old girls to report thus forcing Cadence into the situation. Cadence's brother Griffin encourages her to make the best of this, putting her in a position to help him and others looking to lead a rebellion.
"Testament" leads the reader through Cadence's journey of being paraded in the beauty pageant, getting to know the Emperor's son all while dealing with the need but lose of her previous life. Cadence finds romance but who does she choose?
I will say the ending definitely left me wanting more. I can only hope this is a series or there will be an unexpected novella that comes out to answer a number of our pending questions.
I have mixed feelings about this story. KATIE ASHLEY, PLEASE TELL ME THERE WILL BE ANOTHER BOOK!?
This was great start, a good middle, but what happened to the end? Was it meant to end that way, or is there another book on the way? I've read a few dystopian books, and I enjoyed them. I was a bit shocked to see that Katie Ashley written one, I HAD TO HOP ON THIS!
I'll give you a little bit, not much, because I don't like spoilers. Cadence is a seventeen year old girl living with her brother after a huge 'War' has taken place. A new order so to speak, where "believing" is outlawed. This was all intriguing to me, I was sucked in. I actually read this in one day. OK. THERE'S REBELS, SPIES, TRAITORS, WARS. I was fascinated, biting my nails. There's also a tiny love triangle, not bad. It's okay, don't stray. We get some action. I don't want to say. Anyway, right when the Stuff is about to hit the fan. THE END! Let me be clear, you kinda get how the story is gonna go, but you don't. I'm babbling. This had the potential to be to be so much more! Not that I didn't like it, I just didn't get a conclusion that I would've liked.
I liked the book... Obviously since I read it in one sitting. It kept my interest. There was suspense along with some great humor. I.wanted more of an ending. Maybe she can put out an epilogue. Cadence was awesome. I liked the friendships, the feisty females, Kellan was one hot arrogant male, and Micah was sweet. I just wanted a little bit more. Overall enjoyed it.
I just didn't gel with this book at all. It felt similar to The Selection and I kept getting déjà vous in th first half of the book. I didn't believe Candence's affection for Micah or Kellan.
First thing I want to say is, there better be a second book cause seriously what the hell? You cant just stop a book there!!! This book was waaaay to short for me, it kinda felt rushed some times, but it definitely kept me hooked from start to finish, I even skipped going to get a mani-pedi so I could finish the book and see what was going to happen. I don't usually read shorter books as I always find them a bit lacking, but I really enjoyed this unique story, which is why I picked it up to start off with. I did not realise this was a YA book, but once I got into it, I didn't even really care.
So this is set in a Dystopian America, after the Great Fall, a global economic collapse, the greedy CEO's who are the richest left alive now rule the world. Cadence and her brother Griffin's parents both part of the rebellion were killed and they are left to fend for themselves. Although Griffin was to go to medical school he is now working in a farm, and Cadence works as a server to the Emperor in the palace. When the Emperor's son's fiance runs off the Emperor decides to hold a compulsory beauty pageant for all the 17 year olds in the county so his son Kellan can find a beautiful but obedient wife. The Emperor believes that a woman's place is to look beautiful and to be seen and not heard. Cadence who is indeed beautiful but anything from obedient, has very strong opinions on a woman's place and strongly believes that her mother and fathers fight and death for the rebellion was not so she would end up a server or a wife to the elitist rich Emperor or his family.
On the eve of going to the palace for the pageant, her and her brothers long time friend Micah professes his undying love for Cadence and begs her to throw the race so to speak. Unaware of her beauty Cadence believes that she has no hope of winning, and has no idea why her brother and Micah are so concerned for her. Cadence keeps moving forward in the competition much to her disgust and when she gets to spend one on one time with Kellan, she realises that he is nothing like his father and is a genuinely lovely (and sexy) guy. Kellan gives her a choice, if she wants to be his wife she is to wear red on the final night, Cadence struggles with the choice between living in poverty and being true to herself and her parents and to accept the love of her long time friend, or to live in luxury with a man that she discovers she has feelings for, but has to compromise herself to exist in the fake world. I will not spoil the choice that she makes for you, you will just have to read it to discover the truth!!
As I said earlier, I really enjoyed this book, it has a unique story line that has not been done before and the story really captured my attention. I have not read any books for Katie Ashley before and really enjoyed her type of writing. I really do hope that this book continues as it seems a waste to finish the story where it ended off, that being said I am so tired of reading books and then discovering that they are part of a series and I have to wait 1 year to read the next, I have deliberately steered away from trilogy or series books lately, and if I knew that this book was part of a series I am not sure that I would have read it, but I am glad that I did anyway. Love the cover of this book, sometimes the people they have on the covers do not have anything to do with the book but this cover is fab. This is a good read and would be appropriate for teens to read as well.
"For the last few months, it felt like things were changing between us - or at least they were changing for him. It didn't help matters that behind Micah's back, Griff claimed Micah didn't come to the house to see him, but instead it was all about the fact he was in love with me. In the end, I didn't know how I felt. I'd never had a boyfriend. Lost in the raging storms of loss and grief, I never could shake the dark clouds long enough to find my way to love."
I was drawn in from the very beginning. Cadence is a no nonsense, tell it like it is stereotypical red head. The problem with that is, she lives in a world where low class citizens, especially woman, do not have that right. Micah, her brothers best friend, has been harboring feelings for Cadence for who knows how long. However, he picks the absolute wring time to clue her in... The emperor, Richard Quinn, decides to hold a pageant of sorts to find his son, Kellan, a wife. Every girl in the province the age of seventeen is forced to enter. And Cadence, of course, is seventeen... Little does Cadence know, her brother had joined the rebels to fight against Richard and everything he stands for... Now here comes Kellan, oooooooo Kellan, gorgeous cocky arrogant.... the list goes on. I wanted to hate him BUT under everything, the guy has a heart of gold... And, of course, he too falls for our red headed heroine...
I literally could go on and on about this books and everything in it, but I don't want to give everything away. Bottom line.... I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

Really liked this story, even if the Dystopian kind of story is not really my thing. Katie Ashley delivers yet another wonderful book with her great writingstyle and dialogues/banter between the characters, to keep you reading.
There is no cliffhanger in this book, even if it might feel like that, the 'end' is told in the last couple of paragraphs through the dream Cadence experiences.
An epilogue would have been really nice to wrap things up.
4* stars for the only reason that Dystopian is not my kind of story and because of that, it didn't make me feel what other books do.
It’s kinda like the Selection but not so much with the selection process but more on the political and somewhat religious workings of the book’s society. There’s a love triangle but again, no so much because it seems to me that Candence had already made up her mind who she really loves. I just sort of sad about it because I liked the other guy better. This book is fast-paced, a lot had happened in just few pages. I’m not sure if this a series ‘cos I felt a lot of thing haven’t sorted yet. Overall, enjoyable but I prefer Ms. Ashley’s adult and NA books. ;)
I really loved this book since I finish it in one sitting. I loved Kellen and Cadence relationship I liked there back and forth dialogue and just wanted more between these two. Micah was sweet too and there was some very sweet moments I had butterflies at his words to Cadence. I loved it and I was hooked then it ended. I wanted more and felt there was so much more left to tell. I wish there was more of a battle for Cadence heart and that she waited to declare who she wanted. I wanted to see if her dream came true then what happened next. It kind of left you to imagine what happened next. But I just wanted a chance to read it. In my imagination she falls in love with the other guy. ;)
I'm not sure what I just read...Cadence seemed like a nice gal with convictions and attitude, never quite developed confidence of herself in the love department (wasn't happy with her choice of partner)...her shift to Micah as love interest left me wanting...was waiting or hoping for Cadence to go back to Kellan (his character had a lot of potential). ...the end felt unfinished...kept waiting for something, it never happened.
I really enjoyed this book, although having read all of Katie's books, i feel as if this was written a while ago before The Proposition and Proposal. The story flowed and had great characters, but i felt the ending was rushed and cut short.. This is a book that all romance lovers should read as Cadence Kellan and Micah are all wonderful characters. Im happy to say there is no cliffhanger.
ok so I just finished the story and I have to tell you Katie we need more! At least 1 more book or an epilogue that let us know what was the final results!!! I loved the book don't get me wrong I can't put it down once I started it but I need more!!!
Ok so let me start off by saying that I love me some Katie Ashley books. This book started off really good and I was loving how it was going but then it got kind of boring and then it kind of just ended. Not at all what I was hoping for.
