BETRAYED - The Shocking True Story Of Extortion 17 As Told By A Navy SEAL's Father

Rate this book
Before BENGHAZI, There was EXTORTION 17.... August 06, 2011, 2:20 a.m.—Operation Lefty Grove is underway, a highly dangerous mission to take out another high-level Taliban operative, three months after the death of Osama Bin Laden. In the dark of night, twenty-five US Special Ops Forces and a five-man flight crew on board Extortion 17, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. Seven unidentified Afghan Commandos are allowed to join them. Ground forces have already been engaged in a three-hour exhaustive battle. Extortion 17’s specially trained warriors drop into the Hot Landing Zone to help their fellow warriors. But there’s a problem: the standard chopper escorts have all been directed elsewhere. Mission directions are unclear. Worse, pre-assault fire to cover the Chinook transporting our brave fighting men is not ordered.

In serious need of a good editor, but I think this should be required reading for every American who makes the claim to "support the troops."

This book broke my heart. I am a Veteran and served under Bush's ROEs in Operation Iraqi Freedom. They were nowhere near what was described here and WE (in 2003) thought WE went into battle with our hands tied. I agree with many of the reviews of this book - that it should be required reading. I appreciate that Mr. Vaughn took the time to read all the pages from the hearing transcripts and actual event transcripts, got to know them well, was able to call out lies that were told to his face by lying liars, still keep his own demeanor and integrity and documented his book very well. There is no question that it's all sickeninly true. I wish I had heard about the book sooner, but now that I have, I realize that the subversion and corruption of the 2008-2016 Administration is more wide-spread than myself and so many others ever realized. I knew it was bad and said so plenty, but the actions outlined in the book are pure EVIL and I was shocked to tears. Please read this and tell a friend. It's painful but necessary.

Great insight into the inner workings of R. O. E.

Very provocative, but the depths and courageous patience to come to a conclusive finish. Very simple to understand, really enlightens you to the truth, why so many flag officers were relieved during major conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan due to political beliefs over military personnel to achieving reasonable military objectives as would be expected.

I read this book with curious caution. Overall there are some big things you just can't ignore, but the very end of the book got a little too conspiracy theory-ish for my liking and lost some credibility with me. I definitely think this book points out big things that people need to understand, but I couldn't agree with everything in the end.

Not what I expected.

Some good points of view on
the shortcomings of military commanders . But too much bitterness, understandably, in the story line.

I remember when the helicopter carrying the Navy SEALs crashed. I remember when Vice President Joe Biden made a public statement tell her the entire world it was the Navy Seals you were employed during the reign of Bin Laden in Pakistan. I remember thinking oh my goodness what a mistake he made we never tell the press or anyone what the Seals do . I remember waiting for a reprimand or at least an apology by the vice president concerning this and never hearing one. I remember when the director of the CIA the empanada named what unit are the seals carried out the ra I remember waiting for a reprimand or at least an apology by the vice president concerning this and never hearing one. I remember when the director of the CIA Leon Panetta named what unit are the seals carried out the raid. I remember thinking that team will be dead now.

This story is a struggle have one father try to find out the truth of what happened to the son Who is one of his Navy SEALs. There are still questions and concerns that we as a nation are putting our men and women in danger but not giving them the tools to carry out the mission. The statement in the introduction by Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin makes it clear what many people believe, “if America does not intend to win, then US forces should never engage an adversary. “. The rules of engagement are set up so that we, as Americans, will lose men and women needlessly. This is what happened also in the story of the Lone Survivor.

This is a very important book. The biggest take away here is that this man loved his son, his brave and fine warrior son who loved this country and even tho it was written several years ago, the theme still rings true today.

First, Obama was a piece of shit. Second, we as a country have a lot to fix as that man did a lot of damage. It will take decades to recover and we have only just begun. We must not let politicians dictate our military, our law enforcement officers and most of all, the media needs to get on the track of truth. People need to know the facts.

It’s interesting how much the media covered for that POS while he was in office and Mr. Vaughn really brings up an excellent point of the fact that under Obama; the deaths of our service men more than doubled in three years because of his rules of engagement. And just as staggering was the number of injured quadrupled. I mean, that is NEWS! Who even knew that?! And the assistance he gave to the Muslim brotherhood?! Literally I feel like throwing up thinking about what a traitor to this country that evil man was!

Mr. Vaughn, I have to tell you, thank you and I will use my voice to call out those wolves. Your son was an American treasure as are you and your entire family.

Eye opening. Every American needs to read this...

Its brought to light opinions I have had for a while, that there was major corruption that our men and women didn't agree to when they took that oath but now have to follow a system they don't agree with because their bound by contract. The blood of our soldiers lies within that system...I pray a new leadership will do what's right and put our soldiers safety before politics..God bless this father and mother for stepping out and listening to their heart..May extortion 17 rest easy in the arms of the master and I pray their deaths stir us all to ask questions about what our hearts say doesn't feel right. God bless this country and all those who bravely choose to defend its honor!

An American Hero

To begin with, I went to high school with the author of this book. I would like to think that this is not the reason my heart was breaking as I read each page of this book. The unbelievable denial of reality by the Obama administration was obvious to many of us who have spent time in the military life. Our military have to deal with so much ignorance!! They should be given the respect, training and equipment that is required for the tasks they are expected to accomplish. I was the wife of a Marine in the 70’s and remember well the ludicrous expectations. By heart breaks that things have gotten worse over the course of time.

Written by Billy Vaughn, a father on a journey for the truth of how and why his son, Aaron Vaughn was killed in the biggest loss of life in Naval Special Warfare during Extortion 17’s mission “Lefty Grove”. Mr. Vaughn utilizes his faith to facilitate healing and progression towards uncovering the truth and shedding light on those responsible for making significant decisions, namely politicians and flag officers. Although Mr. Vaughn occasionally adopts a political tone, his sentiments are often in agreement with my own. It is evident that Mr. Vaughn deeply loved and was extremely proud of his son. I highly recommend reading this book.

Believe - Don't blame!

Mr. & Mrs. Vaughn, my condolences to you and your family. I served in the U.S. Navy for 21+ years. I was not a SEAL! However, I am still Aaron's brother. We are both Chief Petty Officers and also U.S. Navy Sailors! I loved this book. As difficult as it was for you to write, I'm glad you shared it. The peace of God that surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I’ve heard of Extortion 17, but I never knew all the details going into it. It’s a shocking true story about corruption in the military and government and the devastating loss of 31 Americans (1 dog). The book is written by the father of one of the lost SEALs, and he asks the critical questions that nobody else would in his search for the truth.

This is a father's story of his Navy Seal son's death, the government coverup of facts, and the politics of fighting under the Obama administration. Much of it is sad, but very insightful into this period.

I read this publication a few years ago but because it was such an emotional read for me personally I was never able to communicate a comprehensive view about this tragic event and what happened to this family and all of the SEAL members and their families connected to this operation to get Bin Laden. (I spend several years on the naval base were they train these warriors to defend me, my family and my nation).

I want to specifically point out my first hand eye witness account revealed these people's display of Honor, Courage and Commitment inspired me personally to stay in the United States Navy to my eventual retirement.

To the point, when Donald Trump publicly questioned Obama's past, including publicly pointing out Obama's efforts to legally kept his birth Certification from public view, Obama had do something get out of the spot light to where all in about that same time period, Obama would proudly reported to the world, via the MSM "We got him".

In my view, I was watching the classic switch and deflect or better known as "Wag the Dog" and it angered me to no end because the fake 9/11 Commission Report noted Bin Laden was not really the person who actually was in charge even though MSM had reported bin Laden was the person responsible for the attack that morning, even before the first tower had failed. I was watching what I feel was the same con, being milked out again for the benefit of what I felt, was an effort to cover up State Crimes Against Democracy (SCAD's, using the MSM as the tool).

Additionally, I will remind the reader in 2007, in a VERY UNDER reported story, the press secretary for the Bush White House, Dana Perino, admitted to the cameras in the press room Osama bin Laden was not the master mind of 9/11. I will also point out Dana Perino has been very successful with her role on Fox News which will should show the reader of this review I am not a supporter of Fox news.

In my opinion, Trump had actually pushed Obama into the corner so hard about the President's effort to withhold his historical records about his past, he had to deflect and change the narrative because the eventual production of a Birth Certificate revealed several discrepancies.
(On a side bar, I will point out the author Jerome R. Corsi, Ph.D. is now under attack by Robert Mueller’s witch hunt. I’m not attempting to promote Mr. Corsi’s publication, “where’s the Birth Certificate” or what Mr. Corsi did or did not say to Bob Mueller but rather I’m pointing I know personally there is, even today, a material discrepancy with that document from Obama. I don’t know where Obama was born as I was not there to say one way or the other however; there are specific key aspects the MSM has withheld from public awareness about Obama’s past. My views about this is because I was born in the State of Hawaii and knew of the different kinds of certifications one could obtain from the state of Hawaii way before Obama was even in Congress.

I'm posting this customer review now because I was reminded about this very difficult, emotionally draining work from the father of a fallen SEAL team member a while back where I recalled the interactions the father had with the now retired Admiral, after the Admiral's recent attack on Trump's views of the MSM.

I also think the Obama administration's attempted effort to deflect Trump's observations about Obama's hidden history and Obama was responsible for all of those fine Americans SEALS to be killed.

Admiral McRaven's interactions with the family of the dead seal Aaron Vaughn insulted me. The shoot down of Extortion 17 resulted in the largest loss of life in Navy SEAL history and in my view, after reading this work, elements of our government lied to us and the MSM was the tool to cover it up.

There's more I can point out about this emotionally difficult publication but I think the most important thing I wanted to share is what is written in this work as it’s important for the reader to be aware of the historical first person account about the interactions of the family with Admiral McRaven and his comments about president Trump and comments about what the Admiral said about Obama, to this family.

Note, my views are my own and does not assume the author of this publication would agree or disagree with my comments as I do not necessary agree with everything the author has written in this publication however, the details about the Admiral need to be known and it will not be presented in the MSM.

Additional publications I do recommend in connection with this review is from the author Wayne Madsen and his publication, The manufacturing of president: The CIA’s Insertion of Barack H. Obama, Jr. into the white House, the publication, Into The Buzzsaw: LEADING JOURNALISTS EXPOSE THE MYTH OF A FREE PRESS and the 9/11 Congressional report from Congress about Robert Mueller.

(the Congressional Report IS a different document from the 9/11 Commission Report as most Americans still have no awareness between the two publications)

This book showed serious problems with the US efforts in Afghanistan. There is increased loss of US service personnel lives as we try to exit this war.
This personal story of a loss of a son was really sad - the ambush that caused many deaths was horrific and shouldn't have happened. But the book needed to be edited. The story became repetitive and would have had more impact if it was cut by 1/3. I didn't finish this book. I was surprised and impressed by the writings of senior US military officials that were included in this book. We need to learn from these leaders - politics should not compromise military tactics and should not put our soldiers in danger.

I think everyone should take the time to read this book. I think you will be shocked at the current ROE (rules of engagement) that our Soldiers are having to fight under. AND you will be upset to see how unreported by the media and this administration about how much the death rate and how so many more of our Soldiers are wounded for life. The rate has gone up since 2009 with the change of ROE. In some cases 400%. Shameful what they are asked to do.

Read the truth from the parents perspective.

A good book about a terrible tragedy that uncovers bigger problems in today's government and the way the use our brave men and women in the armed forces. It is worth the read to understand the difficulties placed on our bravest citizens.
