“So I want you to become my mistress...to move in with me for as long as I can be bothered parading you around for public disgrace” Sara felt her mouth and eyes open in stunned shock. “Y...you want ME ... To pretend to be your mistress just so that you can humiliate my family?” her voice growing higher as he gave her a smile his head shaking softly. “I never said anything about pretending...I said BECOME my mistress” Sara leapt to her feet, her hands wringing by her side as she paced before him, her shocked features evidence of her feelings. “You cannot be serious”, she finally threw back, her eyes pleaded for him to tell her he was joking. However, he remained motionless, his expression unchanged. “That is obscene. Immoral”, Sara cried with shock, finally stopping, her back to him as she looked heavenwards, one hand rubbing her temples as the other rested on her hip. She had not heard him move around the desk, giving a loud gasp as his hands moved to hold her hips, his mouth against her ear. “You asked for leniency Sara...and I am offering it. You can take it or leave it...the choice is completely yours” She stared ahead, her whole being aware of his closeness, of his hands on her as her breathing became ragged. His mouth dropped and his tongue gently flicked against the small franticly beating vein on her neck, Sara biting back the sigh of pleasure that rose within her. “I will give you till lunchtime tomorrow to return here and give me an answer. If you fail to turn up...then I will have your sister arrested and assume that was your decision” Sara was struggling to understand the soft spoken words, as his mouth continued with its sweet exploration of her throat and neck, her whole body tightening in such an unfamiliar manner. Pulling back slightly, his hands moved to her shoulders, slowly turning her around to face him, his look flicking down her face, taking in the smouldering fire within her lovely eyes. “Perhaps you might even enjoy it” .............................................................. Six years ago the task of firing Darius Larosa had fallen on Sara. Now he is back, and hell bent on revenge. The Company he just took over is in turmoil with Sara’s sister facing prison as an accomplice to her absconded husband’s fraud. Darius however, wants revenge on Sara, not Angela so he makes her a deal – her in his bed or her sister in prison. With little choice Sara moves in with the billionaire, but she has plenty of secrets, one of those being what really happened six year’s ago. Will Darius finally have his revenge on the youngest Balfour daughter, or will he find that perhaps his assumptions are not as clear cut as he first thought.
This was an intriguing tale about Darius and Sara. Years earlier, Darius was accused of theft and fired by Sara. Sara did not believe him guilty but was forced to be the hatchet-man (or woman in this case).
Fast forward 6 or 7 years. Darius is now a billionaire with a grudge. He sees Sara at an event and blackmails her out of spite- she is to live with him for 2 weeks, with all "the benefits" available to him. Because of her circumstances, she agrees to the deal.
We've seen this type of situation before, so I really didn't expect a whole lot, but I was pleasantly surprised. The plotline expanded to Darius and Sara working together to resolve a business problem, and there were other parts to their story that provided further interest. Unlike some of these stories, Darius was not a 2-dimensional cruel man. It is early in the book that he realizes his feelings are betraying him, and that he is attracted to Sara.
Oh yeah, they have some headboard-banging good chemistry!
I don't want to give the story away, so I'm done with the review. Add to your to-read list!
Although I only gave this three stars, I really enjoyed the book. I couldn't give it more stars because of the punctuation errors (lots of them) and paragraph issues (it seems that Ms. Kelly just makes a paragraph a certain length instead of each separate thought being a paragraph - makes some parts of the book difficult to follow) but I have to admit that I'm eager to read another Marie Kelly book. Her plot was great, the progression of the characters' relationship perfect and the conclusion was romantic and heart wrenching. I wouldn't have read this if it hadn't been for the recommendation on the elizabeth lennox website so I'm grateful to have another author to follow.
Dear Lord. Anything positive I could say about this book is completely overshadowed by the author's dire need of an editor!! Almost impossible to read... I was so disappointed.
I DID QUITE ENJOY THIS ONE FOR ITSELF... outside of the below.
Ok... I've read a few of Marie Kelly's books now.
1. Not very well written (not appalling either) 2. Pretty sure no one bothered with an edit, grammar or any kind of other eye over them at any point (and if they have, they should save us all some time and give themselves a slap up side the head) 3. All of these books I've read appear to have the exact same plot... Change a few names, ages and backgrounds and 'vu wala'... Next book done.
Think the above covers my main points.
That being said... IF you can ignore the above, and are just looking for a light read... You may have found an outlet for that, perhaps you should take a look.
Last note. I would have no problem reading them all if they were free - cause it is interesting to see how many ways she can tilt the same view (and I note that I have seen two different baby billionaires to be noting that they started by ferrying tourist around the Greek isles). I brought one or two because I hadn't realized we were looking at the above points throughout... But I don't think I will be spending anymore money on them.
LOL, this review is old... but still pretty much true. I'm not quite as hooked on them as I used to be, but I still reread several each year... AND did end up paying for most of her titles too. I'm a cheapskate, so that's pretty big for me, especially with the editing issues. I will say that they were only $2-3ea tho, so I was happy paying that. And I really do love some of the characters for some reason.
I really enjoyed this book. There was strong emotions, and hot passion between Darius, and Sara. There were many twist to the story. I loved the kids that was adding into this story, and joy that Sara got from just being around them. This story also pulled on my heart strings with little Carly. I don’t want to say too much, and give the story away. I will say I loved how this started out as revenge, but ended with love. Sara, and Darius were friends many years before, when he worked for her father. He has resented Sara for years, when he was set up. Sara’s father made Sara tell Darius that he was fired. That moment has stayed with Darius, the emotions and the anger. I really enjoyed it, when Darius finally learned the truth. If you want a book that has romance, heat, passion, and strong emotions you will love this book!
Sample from chapter 3 She stared at the ceiling, her eyes wide with disbelief. Now she knew, now finally she understood what her friends had talked about. She fought the urge to move her arms around him and kiss his cheek. To him this was revenge, a means to make her pay for the past. It meant nothing else to him: Sara was afraid to show the intensity of her experience. Biting her lip she remained silent and still under him, until he finally pushed himself from her, rolling over onto his back, his breathing still ragged, one arm over his head.
I read this book after chose it randomly for a light-quick read. It has every cliche things that used to be in romance books. Yet, I thought I can bear it and hope the ending will satisfy me. In the beginning, I was quite enjoyed it. I liked the conflicts the author provides to build the story. But then, there are a lot of grammatical and punctuation error. I usually ignore it since I’m still learning English. Who am I judging it? But as the story goes, I really cannot ignore it. I have to reread a couple times to understand the sentences that I read. And what I hope for the good ending never happen. I mean it has good ending for the characters, the happy ever after kind of ending but I want them to struggle more for their ending to make the conflicts in the beginning of the story more believable. When it didn't happen, my only thought was if you have a billionaire as your love interest, although he has a full of vengeance, I guess your life will be easier like a blink of an eye.
While the initial premise could have led to a solid story, it seemed to have quickly spun out of the author's control. The horrible editing added made it difficult to follow.
Marie Kelly knows how to stop time. You read the first sentence, and everything around you fades away. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I started the book at night (like an EJIT) and stayed up until 3am reading the book because I had to finish it. I had work at 8am the next day, but what's a girl to do? I am currently sleep deprived, but it was so worth it. This is the kind of book where you know what's going to happen in the end, but you need to read it anyway. *I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the multiple grammar mistakes. Also, I wish Sara just told Darius her secret. Homeboy could've solved the issue in an instant.
A nice, quick read....but it really needed to be edited. There were so many punctuation and grammar mistakes that I was more surprised than angry wondering how it even got published. Despite being a bit cliche, the plot was intriguing. It had more potential. Some parts were rushed and could have been written in a better way. But in nutshell, the good things about this book over weigh the bad. You might enjoy reading it as long as you don't expect perfection in writing.
I found this book to be a good read. There is nothing ground breaking or overly soul searching about the book but it is still an enjoyable story. It's just a good solid romance with some typical miscommunication has gone way wrong and led two hearts astray until fate and circumstance brought them back together. The book offers two enjoyable characters who have the power to love and healing each other if they can overcome the pains from their past, lies and sad twist that threaten to tear them apart forever. There were some editing issues and a little strangeness to some of the wording (like written by someone with a different primary language than American English) but I knew this going in to the book so it didn't really affect my enjoyment. I didn't find it difficult to get past those issues and really immerse my self into the story which I felt had good characters, good development and a good plot. This is your typical, enjoyable, fast paced romance that offers love, healing, and a sweet HEA ending. I found the book to be a quick and good read. Book Rating = 3.5 stars or more.
Wanted a "fluff" read last night so I settled on this book. Well, I couldn't put it down and ended up reading well after midnight. Each time I thought I could put it to rest for the evening, something new would pop up that I had to know what happened. Loved Sara & Darius. Darius started out as a cad (probably with reason) but all of the heat and intensity started fairly quickly into the book and really kept my interest. Finally, I had to know what Sara's secret was at the end and then it was just as to easy to finish it. Great HEA.
Others have complained about the writing. I got the feeling that American English might not be the writer's native language, maybe English English, so there were some awkward sentences and such but it certainly didn't detract from an entertaining read.
This is a wonderful story that ended the way a book should end. Sara a victim of circumstance and family needs the help of an almost lover in order to protect her family. Darius remembers the shy girl working for her father's construction company that wrongfully fired him. Sara needs Darius help but in order to get help he has to become his mistress. She is appalled but accepts to protect family. he does not intend to sleep with her just humiliate her like she did him. Passion runs hot between then but mistrust keeps them from truly opening up to the other.
The story had more depth than I expected and I can't wait to read others by this author.
eh, it was okay, nothing spectacular, kind of run of the mill. The story was pretty formulatic, and that is usually okay if the characters are interesting, but they weren't. She seemed rather bitter and not at all likable, even when you found out things about her, it didn't really matter to you much. She wasn't a sympathetic character. He had potential, but then turned into just slightly better than a sniveling whiner. Neither character really struck a chord, so when I was done, it was like, meh....
I must say that I enjoyed reading the book... Although the parts wherein Tara or Clary was somehow told a little too late in the story... And Nick's involvement ended with less flourish compared to the impact that he started everything in the first place... But all in all, the intention to show how love affected the people in the book was well delivered... Reading more books from this author in the next few hours, days or weeks..
Ok...I gave this writer one more chance and she blew it with her bad writing and horrendous editing job! Yes the story was not only unbelievable garbage but also so sappy I could have thrown up! Once again she overuses the words lovely and wonderful. This story or shall I say, fable, is an insult to women and men everywhere! Books like this one is just one reason why everyone "thinks" they can be an author!
IMO, the story was unrealistic and the continuity was missing. There were so many words used to describe thoughts but none used to connect the missing continuity. Should've paid attention to the one star rating although sometimes they are wrong. In this case, the higher than 2 stars were off-target.
Oh well another from Marie Kelly, quite enjoyed, except that it wasn't edited enough.
I like the kids were involved, though as every billionaire story of Kelly is, the plot's quite used, and well it had its moments of twists, still Kelly gave me feels.
P.S. I somehow remember reading My Bestfriend's Girl.
I am never reading a Marie Kelly book again. It gets boring after a while.
I have finally discovered the similarities in all her novels I've read. Billionaire, preferably eastern European, with an innocent angel as a female protagonist. I'm tired of it.
When i was half way through it, i was so going to give it five stars. But i was waiting for the end to mind blow me; now everything was almost perfect...almost achieve what i was waiting for. Culprits have to at least pay a small price.
I really enjoyed this book. The romance between the two main characters was sizzling hot. There was development with the characters in themselves and their relationships.
