Martin of Tours is one of the great saints of the church. As a member of the Roman military, he volunteered to continue to serve though he would not hold a weapon due to his faith in Jesus. He eventually left the military and served as a church leader. Like any life of a saint from this time period, there is a lot here that strikes the modern reader as simply crazy - exorcisms and arguments with Satan. For that reason it makes a compelling story. Fit to be read by any interested in early monasticism and Christian life.

aside from the fact he was an asshole who went around desecrating non-christian shrines and processions, it was a great read. *sarcasm*
