In a dark cabin, a young woman sits totally still. Long dark hair hangs over her shoulders and heavy makeup adorns her pale face. Cherry red lips offer a hint of a smile, but she won’t ever smile again. Her body is already cold to the touch…
When black crows are spotted circling over an abandoned cabin in the woods near Rattlesnake Creek, FBI agent Beth Katz and her maverick partner Dax Styles fear something is very wrong. Beth has been hunting serial killers for years, and as she races to the forest she vows to serve her own form of justice, whatever the cost…
Cassie Durham’s friends reported her missing when she didn’t return home from a local bar a few days ago. Now, Cassie sits in darkness, her last breath taken days before. Beth notices the rouged cheeks and bright blue eyeshadow are nothing like the pictures she’s seen of Cassie alive. Did someone add the heavy makeup and pose her like this after death?
When another woman vanishes from a night out, Beth is convinced a twisted killer is in town. A clue on the dark web leads her to a local late-night hangout. Going undercover, she learns that when both girls vanished they were being watched by someone at the back of the crowded room.
Noticing a man following her every move, Beth knows she has one chance to capture him. With a knife in her pocket and hellbent on saving another innocent life, Beth is already sure she’s going to be the killer tonight. Otherwise she will become his next victim…
Detective Beth Katz is back in another thrilling installment in the new series by D.K. Hood. After reading the first book in the series Dark Angel, I was an instant fan and kicking myself for having not read any previous books by D.K. Hood. I found Shadow Angel to be intriguing, shocking and hard to put down!
FBI agent Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles are called in when Cassie Durham’s friend/co-worder reports her missing. Cassie was last seen leaving the bar where she strips. Soon after her body is found posed and wearing heavy makeup, another woman goes missing. Beth knows that there is a very sick and twisted killer out there. Beth is no strangers to killers; her father was a serial killer, and she is a vigilante who hunts down killers when not working as a tough as nails FBI agent.
I enjoyed the mystery and investigative work done by Beth and Dax in this book. I enjoy their working dynamic and banter. I also enjoyed the tension and mounting danger as Beth went undercover to solve the case. There were some pulse-pounding scenes which had me flipping the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next.
I found this book to be well written, well thought out, perfectly paced, suspenseful, and hard to put down. I was fully invested in the plot and look forward to reading more books in this addictive and thrilling new series! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I have a feeling it is going to be another riveting page turner!
Suspenseful, gripping, shocking, well written and hard to put down!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed book 2 in the Detective Beth Katz series but it wasn't as much of a stand out as book 1 as far as uniqueness with serial killer/psychopath research goes.
Beth's character still isn't as developed as I'd hope, but we do find out a bit more. If it is a case of slowly discovering more about her in each book, I enjoy that style too for ongoing series.
The police procedural plot side I thought was fab, mysterious and thrilling, as was the Tarot Killer aspect again. I'm also enjoying the working relationship between Styles and Katz, and a couple of other people they bring in where necessary.
I'm looking forward to book 3!
Thank you to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I read the first book in the Beth Katz series just a few weeks back. As with the first one, the story is straightforward and fast-paced.
The book starts with a brief background of Beth Katz, as with the first book. Her father was a serial killer and also murdered her mother. Beth, with the FBI, will go to any extent to punish serial killers, even if it means stepping well outside acceptable limits. She had moved to Rattlesnake creek to partner with Dax Styles in the last book. This time, local law enforcement seeks their help after a dancer at a bar, Cassie Burnham, goes missing from an outlying area of Rattlesnake creek. As Beth & Styles visit the club, Beth herself is assaulted but saved by Styles. In a few days, another dancer Vicki Strauss, goes missing and they find the body of Cassie. It is clear a serial killer is on the prowl. Beth is also following the case of Levi Jackson who was released from custody after the prosecution could not prove his guilt in the case of an assault. It seems though that the cases are not connected, though Beth is determined to get to the culprits, even if it means taking very high risks.
I liked the characters of both Beth and Styles. As a person determined to bring serial killers to justice, her strength and purpose shine through. Styles character provides a sense of balance to proceedings. The story is engrossing and fast-paced. Some of the descriptions of the crimes are quite graphic and disturbing, though the passages are few. The novelty is in Beth’s character and the plot is simple. A series I intend following.
My rating: 3.75 / 5.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for a free electronic review copy.
Vigilante FBI Beth Katz is back kicking butt and taking names! This is the second book in the series and just as good as the first. A serial killer is abducting and killing pole dancers and leaving them gruesomely displayed. Beth goes under cover as a pole dancer and nearly gets more than she bargained for. This was an exciting read that had me on the edge of my seat. Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC that will be released September 12, 2023!

Beth Katz is a strong character and one smart cookie she also has a dark past. Beth is a vigilante who works for the FBI. This time, Beth and Dax are looking for a serial killer of exotic dancers. We learn mor of Beth and Dax's backstories. This is a descriptively written story. There are two storylines taking place in this book. We also get some characters from the authors Detective Kane and Alton series, There's so much tension and suspense. There are some grotesque scenes. I think this book was slightly better than the first, probably because we know the characters a bit better now. I'm eagerly waiting to see what Beth gets up to next.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #ShadowAngel in exchange for an honest review.
In another of her series, D. K. Hood shows her abilities with yet another strong thriller collection. Exciting to the core, Hood develops a stunning story that has all the needed elements to keep the reader hooked well into the night. FBI Agent Beth Katz has a secret, though she is able to keep it under wraps as she hunts for serial killers. Someone has been killing local women and Katz chooses a risky means of catching the killer, putting herself and the case in danger. However, she seeks results, which cannot be found without some hard work on her part. Hood does well with this piece and keeps the reader hooked.
A dark and deserted cabin is quiet, though the eeriness pervades the area. A young woman‘s body is cold to the touch, though her cherry lips and pinkish cheeks show that she was once quite the looker. No longer, and for someone, this is the greatest prize of all.
It is the circling murder of crows that calls attention to the abandoned cabin in the woods. FBI Agent Beth Katz arrives on scene near Rattlesnake Creek, Montana. Alongside her, Dax Styles, the rebellious partner who gets results. Agent Katz knows that there is something off though she cannot put her finger on it. She knows that ther is a killer out there, but Montana is large. Still, she senses that this is not the only body and that the killer has a plan. Locating them will take more work that she might have imagined.
When Cassie Durham goes missing, her friends are in a panic. She was last seen at a bar, but her friends say that she is highly responsible. Once Cassie’s lifeless body is located, her rouged cheeks and painted eyelids are nothing like the photos of her that Agents Katz and Styles have seen. Could this killer be turning their kills into personal playthings?
After another body turns up, Agent Katz turns to the darker side to pick up whispers about a potential suspect. She is sure luring the killer out of hiding will simply take patience. Choosing to go undercover, Agent Katz hopes to locate someone watching her and strike before any other women are found dead. When someone appears to be following her, Agent Katz thinks that she has her man. However, she must decide if this is a time to bring him to justice or use her own rules, as a serial killer herself. Hood weaves things together masterfully and keeps the reader in suspense.
I have come to really enjoy the work that D.K. Hood puts into her novels. A fan of her larger and more complex series, I readily reached for this collection when it became available. I love the detail and narrative flow, which always keeps me wondering as I flip pages to get some answers. The story’s momentum pushes things along and keeps me eager to see where things are headed, as I try to juggle the story and Agent Beth Katz’s own personal narrative. The characters are well placed and keep me hoping to discover their own backstories and development. I hope more find their way into the next novel, so I can delve a little deeper
Plot twists are plentiful in this piece, which has an unpredictable protagonist at its centre. These twists keeps things from being too presumptive and I can never tell where things might go next. Hood has created a strong story, as well as a sturdy series that I hope stands up for many novels to come. I am eager to see where things might go and who will be next to cross Beth Katz.
Kudos, Madam Hood, for surprising me with every new idea.
Book 2 in the FBI series Beth Katz! I couldn't wait to get straight into the second book after finishing the first one! There's just so much to unpack!
'When black crows are spotted circling over an abandoned cabin in the woods near Rattlesnake Creek, FBI agent Beth Katz and her maverick partner Dax Styles fear something is very wrong. Beth has been hunting serial killers for years, and as she races to the forest, she vows to serve her own form of justice, whatever the cost…'
After speeding through book one, I started on book 2, I couldn't wait to continue Beth's story. I find the concept that she's a psychopathic murdering FBI agent so fascinating I can't wait to see how this all plays out. It's intense and suspenseful all at the same time. What's great is like the first installment their are two cases running through the story. I was easily hooked with both the murders! There's a phrase used by this killer 'my darlings' omg I don't think I can say darling again without thinking of murdered women with clown makeup!
It was great reading how the relationship between Beth and Dax is growing throughout their working relationship. Plus, we get continual visits from Wolf, Colt, and Emily plus agents Jo and Carter! It was great reading from Beth's POV her fear that behavioural analysis Jo Wells will be able to see she's a psychopath. I honestly love this agent psychopath I honestly love for this!!!
I think this might be my new favourite fictional crime series. The main case is so insane you can't help but continue once you start. The description throughout is so clear I felt like I entered the murder house when they discovered the first body. I was completely baffled as to who the killer was so was pleasantly surprised when they were revealed. The other case that Beth is tracking as the taro killer well it gers dicey. I actually re read the last few chapters 3 times as everytime I seemed to miss something. Those last chapters were insane in an epic proportion!!
All in all I rate the second installment 5 stars 🌟! I love the way D.K Hood writes and she has me completely hooked start to finish! I can't recommend more highly. Beth is an amazing lead and I cannot stress how much a psychopathic fbi agent is someone you never knew you wanted but now can't live without. Highly recommend
Thanks to netgalley, D.K Hood and bookouture for the digital ARC of Shadow Angel in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
Shadow Angel (Detective Beth Katz Book 2) By D.K. Hood Pub Date: 12 Sep 2023 Bookouture General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers Rating: 5/5
D.K. Hood's Shadow Angel is book two in the Beth Katz series. This captivating sequel continues to build upon the world that established a chilling atmosphere in book one. From thrilling twists and turns to a fascinating storyline, Shadow Angel does not disappoint, confirming D.K. Hood's status as a master storyteller. Beth Katz and Dax Styes are full of surprises and the plot is packed with suspense, delivering an unforgettable reading experience. It left me eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
It's pitch black in the cabin where a young woman sits staring ahead. Her long hair hangs over her shoulders and her face is covered in makeup. She will never be able to smile again, despite the bright cherry red lipstick. Her body is cold, her death is mysterious and sudden, leaving more questions than answers. She will never feel the warmth of the sun again, her life having been suddenly and inexplicably cut short.
FBI agent Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles sense something is amiss when they spot a group of black crows perched on top of an abandoned cabin near Rattlesnake Creek. When black crows are present, the duo knows death will follow. Moreover, they know that murderers often return to the scene of their crimes, so they worry that the abandoned cabin could house the criminal. Even though they fear the unexpected, Beth and Dax remain vigilant, determined to catch the killer before he strikes again.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this novel with me. The book's original take on the police procedural genre makes it an intriguing read for thrill seekers. Its charismatic characters only add to the story's charm and excitement. The small town atmosphere is loveable and vibrant. I can't wait to read book 3.
Dear D.K. Hood, no one can create the most depraved and deviant perps like you do!!! I love this new series!! I ditched my initial reservations about Beth’s dark side as I read book 2, I’m totally Team Beth! I love the sting operations Styles and Beth perform. I also love vivid descriptions of how Katz transforms herself and plots and schemes to take the garbage out. I love that Styles can fly his own bird and poor Bear and his chicken terror. I am so excited for the next book because I can’t wait to see what happens next!!! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the early read.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Shadow Angel, book two in the Special Agent Beth Katz series, takes readers on another journey in a world of serial killers. This time around, Beth and Dax faces the task of stopping a killer who targets exotic dancers.
After my experience with Dark Angel, I went into Shadow Angel expecting a thrilling read, and it did not disappoint. From start to finish, the story kept me on the edge of my seat with its fascinating plot, shocking twists and interesting characters.
This instalment provided additional details about Beth, which aids readers in understanding what drove in becoming the person she is now. Despite the illegality of her actions, one cannot help but get behind what she'e doing. Her ability to blend into a specific scenario made her a great agent. This ability also helped her to maintain her vigilante persona without her colleagues being the wiser. The way she is able to blend into both worlds amazes me. As the Tarot killer, she works to find her next victim, while working with Dax to stop the villain behind the killing of exotic dancers.
Dax and Beth's interactions have become more mellow. It was fun seeing them joking and sharing some aspects of their past with each other.
The mystery unfolded well. The tension, action and danger made for a compelling, page turning read. Like the previous book, prepare for a one sitting read. One will find it difficult to put this book down. With tension high from the start, Shadow Angel is as good or even better than Dark Angel. Now I am eager to see who is Beth's next victim and if she can continue straddling the world of FBI and killer without getting caught. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
Big thanks to both Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Shadow Angel, by D.K. Hood. This is the second book in the Detective Beth Katz Series.
Everyone's favorite vigilante, FBI Special Agent Beth Katz is back, kicking butt and taking names! When a woman vanishes from a night out, Beth is convinced a twisted killer is in town. She knows how their minds work since she's had first-hand experience. Her own father was a serial killer.
I liked Shadow Angel even better than the first one (Dark Angel). It was fun peeking a bit more into the lives of Beth and her maverick partner Dax Styles. I loved the ending of Shadow Angel and I can't WAIT to read the next book!!
Shadow Angel by D.K. Hood is the second in the FBI Special Agent Beth Katz series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books) It was Beth Katz’s serial killer father who made her who she is: a successful FBI agent and an unstoppable vigilante dedicated to hunting down murderers who have evaded capture. Beth, often using her "Tarot Killer" persona, will often take matters into her own hands. She has recently been assigned to the small town of Rattlesnake Creek to work with fellow FBI Agent Dax Styles. She's still not sure that having a partner is going to work.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) Beth and Dax are trying to find a sadistic killer who is targeting exotic dancers. They find Cassie Durham's dead body in an abandoned cabin, her face heavy with makeup, and her body sewn to a couch. She will not be the last woman to be found this way, and she probably wasn't the first. Beth plans on going undercover to find this man, but she will have back-up.
Meanwhile, Beth, in her vigilante personae, is hot on the trail of another serial killer who is raping women, and leaving them in various places, covered in brush. She is determined that this one will not survive...and in this case she will be very much alone.
My Opinions: I am really enjoying this new series. I really like Beth, although I felt her attitude towards Ryder was a little condescending. I'm still not happy that the characters in this series have to rely on help from Hood's Kane and Alton books, but at least they are still being kept at a distance. Dax is a great partner for Beth, and in this book we have learned more about both of them.
As always, the writing is superb, and the plot great. It was another fast and thrilling read.
This new series continues to show promise!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review “Shadow Angel” - an eerie, suspenseful novel of murder and obsession - and the second book in the Special Agent Beth Katz series from DK Hood, author of the tremendously popular “Detectives Kane and Alton” series of thrillers.
“Pain slammed into the side of her head and she staggered, falling to her knees. The gritty sidewalk cut deep into her flesh as bright starbursts erupted in her eyes and the metallic taste of blood coated her tongue. What had happened?…”
Welcome back to Rattlesnake Creek, where Special Agent Beth Katz - a cybercrime expert and sometimes undercover specialist is settling in. Taking up where “Dark Angel” left off, Beth has now purchased herself and small cabin, which she plans of using as a getaway from the office she shares with Agent Dax Styles - her new partner - and the apartment within that building which is just a little too close for comfort to him. This will be her base for any “extracurricular activities” which may arise from her dark web research into psychopaths, child killers, pedophiles, serial murderers and other ‘garbage’ which needs taking out.
A new case is shaping up for the team when word of the disappearance of a young local exotic dancer comes to their attention, and a fellow dancer tells about Cassie Burnham’s feeling the one of the regulars at the club seemed to have malevolent intentions. At first, it plays out like just another transient who’s moved on to greener pastures, but then her belongings are discovered nearby the club, and later on further away.
In the meantime, a different case - The Roadside Strangler - has captured the attention of Beth’s ‘dark side’. Levi Jackson was accused of kidnapping, drugging, raping and almost killing a young woman, a woman who was drawn in by the promise of work. But when the case went to court, the evidence against him was underwhelming, thanks to a lawyer who was able to twist everything around to make it look as if she was just a disgruntled sex worker. So, he went free. But Beth Katz knows in her heart that this was not his first rodeo, and that there will be more bodies and the authorities won’t even LOOK at Jackson. Oh, but Katz will! So maybe the Tarot Killer will have to step in.
When a grisly discovery is made at an abandoned miner’s cabin - thanks to the habits of a murder of crows (they’re obviously called that for a good reason), and shortly after, another, Katz and Styles, with the able assistance of Sheriff Cash Ryder, decide that a good old fashioned sting is in order.
Having proven - for the most part - that she is quite able to hold her own when investigating, questioning and interrogating the miners who come to town to visit the strip joints, Beth decides that the best course is to go undercover and ferret out the man who’s systematically killing off the dancers (while biding her time and planning on how to deal with the other ‘case’). Much to the chagrin of Styles - but he’s convinced to go along with it - with a lot of back up.
There’s quite a bit of tension between Dax Styles and Beth Katz (and some with Sheriff Ryder), as they all find out how best work together; and Beth’s first meeting with Jo Wells, profiler extraordinaire, makes for some tense moments as well.
DK Hood is showing us early on that the alchemy involved in creating the Black Rock Falls team - Jenna Alton, Dave Kane, Shane and Emily Wolfe, et al - can strike twice. This reader can see the beginning of a ‘beautiful friendship’ between the characters in this series, even though the main character is radically different from any of the others. I cannot wait to see where we go next.
Highly recommended - get in on the ‘ground floor’ of this new series.
Wowsers this series is dark. The killings in this one were so dark and made me cringe and shiver. It’s like my worst nightmare and reminds me of a few different horror films.
Beth really comes into her own in this book. I have no idea how this series will all pan out but with what we know about her it isn’t going to be good. But that makes it so exciting and so fresh! It’s not the same formulaic series, it’s exciting, fresh and so tense. We are just waiting for the fallout to happen.
Two different storylines occur, but it was nice to have one wrapped up before we tackled the next one, but those final phrases in the epilogue, Sheesh kebab! Things have just stepped up a notch!
This series is really unlike I have ever read and it is so far from the Kane and Alton series. Here Ms Hood goes dark, so dark. It’s like she goes further than she can in black rock falls.
What a great merging of two series too, some fan favourites show up in this book and you can see the noose will get tighter as the series progresses. I am already panicking!!
Just another book knocked right out of the park. Now to catch up on Book 3!
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book this is the 2nd book in a new series for this author and its heading in the right direction with keeping the readers hungry for more this book sees beth settled into her new surroundings and getting to know her partner styles and the other officers around and as normal there are murders abound horrific murders with the victims being strippers from the bars surrounding the area, they are abducted and when found they are displayed horrifically its take beth going undercover as a pole dancer to draw the killers attention there are times when i am not sure i like beth and then there are times when i love her.... and this series is gearing up to be a winner... cant wait for book 3 in this amazing new series
Agents Katz & Styles are now partners that are working at the Rattlesnake Creek field office. They do work well together but Beth knows that she has to keep her wits about her as she could slip up with Styles around. She can’t let the her secret be uncovered ever as she needs to repay her father’s debt. They have been called in to get the sheriff after a stripper is found murdered. Beth knows that this is the work of a serial killer and that they need to find him before he brutally kills another woman. But will they be able to find the clues that they need to stop the killer? Beth has been working on her side project she has tried to be careful and Styles gives her the perfect alibi to hide her latest outing. But how long can she keep him in the dark? Beth is a strong independent woman that has had to overcome so much. She has a messy past that she won’t and can’t allow to get in her way. She tries really hard to fit in but I do wonder how long she can continue before getting caught? Dax is a former military man that misses nothing. He is a Alpha male that wants to take care of his partner Beth and he knows that he can’t push her too hard. What will he do when he finds out about Beth’s pastime? A good read. Keeps you turning the pages. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher Bookouture for the copy. This is my voluntary review.
I had to go straight into this after book 1 ., it just got better and I loved how the dark side is starting to come out. This was really an addictive read definitely an afternoon session.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I listened to the audio, as I did book 1. What a fantastic series. I’m new to this author and I will definitely be checking out her other series. I’m not usually into this type of read where the heroine is both good and bad. But I am so intrigued. I’m looking forward to revisiting Beth Katz.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Detective Beth Katz, a FBI detective is working to find another serial killer in this second book, while trying to keep the serial killer in her, the Tarot killer hidden. She works in both worlds. Privately, she works to find her next victim as the Tarot Killer, and publicly as her FBI detective since there are girls who are going missing and found murdered in the most horrible ways. I hope there will be more of the series.
"Right now, she must fight for survival by leaving the FBI agent behind and facing him serial killer to serial killer."

Shadow Angel is book 2 in the Detective Katz series by D.K. Hood. I enjoyed this book even more than the first. Detective Katz and Styles are investigating a serial killer who is killing exotic dancers slowly after he takes them. He takes them to a deserted mining cabin in the woods and takes his time killing them. After he kills them, he sews them into the sofa, puts heavy makeup on them, brushes their hair, and poses them to greet him as he enters each day. They stink terribly of death by the time they are discovered. Who could be doing this and why? It takes a real nutcase to do what this killer is doing!
As the body count continues to rise and more women are found in the same hideous fashion, a famous profiler and her partner come to town to help Katz and Styles. Katz is afraid that the profiler will see right through her and know that she is a serial killer. Katz is the Tarot Card killer that goes around killing the worst serial killers out there. No one can know that she is the Tarot Card killer and it's getting harder and harder to have an alibi with Styles so close. Katz and Styles both have an apartment above their working quarters at the FBI office. Because of this, Katz decides to buy a cabin in the woods for some get away time. She's going to use it as an artist retreat when they have time off, but she'll really be hunting the next hideous killer to take down.
Leading a double life as an FBI agent and a vigilante serial killer is tough for Katz, but she loves doing both. Can she keep it up without anyone discovering the truth? Will Styles get too close and start to figure things out? Will Katz and Styles be able to catch the serial killer before more bodies are found? As Katz tracks down the next person to kill she is in danger. The serial killer is big and strong and Katz fears this could be it. Will she be able to kill him and leave her calling card, the tarot card? He's killed at least 20 women and she must stop him. I couldn't stop reading this book and was up until 3:45 in the morning finishing it. I rate Shadow Angel 5 stars with my highest recommendation. Get comfortable, get a cup of coffee, and enjoy this fantastic book! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Shadow Angel in exchange for a fair review. #ShadowAngel
The second book in the new series detailing the strong woman detective Beth Katz. If you haven't read the first in the series it was amazing.
Beth Katz is a well designed character and I really enjoy reading about her and her new home. She is strong and independent which is great but also has some really bad qualities as well showing her as a complete person.
While this series may never take the place in my heart of Alton and Kane it is very strong and has so many positives to it.
There are references back to the other series but it feels like it's more in passing than an actual full link. This makes it easier to handle at the same time as you feel a closeness with the books and yet also a distance.
I think what I like the most is the style of this book. It has the serial killer as the good guy vibes which is great as you don't know who the good guys are for part of this. Vigilante justice can be very entertaining to read about especially when the person doing it is a cop. For me that is one thing I really like as it shows the anti-hero which is attractive to read about.
In some ways Beth seems like a shadow of a person as she has two sides to herself. The FBI officer who is helpful and the avenging dark Angel.
I always have high hopes for a new series and this one never disappoints especially when old favourites pop in to help with the cases. The tie in to the authors original series is what helps to make these characters stand out more than they already do.
The premise of this series has really drawn me in and I find that the intrigue of this series makes it even better especially as anticipation for what is to come is very attractive.
When black crows are spotted circling over an abandoned cabin in the woods near Rattlesnake Creek, FBI agent Beth Katz and her maverick partner Dax Styles fear something is very wrong. Beth has been hunting serial killers for years, and as she races to the forest she vows to serve her own form of justice. When another woman vanishes from a night out, Beth is convinced a twisted killer is in town. A clue on the dark web leads her to a local late-night hangout. The second book in the series & another engrossing read. The pace is good & the characters strong. I do feel that I'm just starting to get to know Beth & I'm sure as the series progresses more & more will be revealed but I am intrigued. Beth goes undercover & I found I was on the edge of my seat & finished the book in two sittings My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Sometimes, a great new series comes along. Almost never the first two books in a great new series are published together! Well! This, my friends, is almost never! Book 2 in the Detective Beth Katz series is here, and I have had the honour of reading it.
I found Dark Angel a great start to getting to know Beth Katz and wondered what Shadow Angel had in store for our dynamic duo, Beth and Dax. I also wanted to carry on getting to know Beth.
This book is easily read as a standalone as the author briefly goes over Beth Katz's background. Her dad was a serial killer, and he murdered Beth's mum too. Beth is a woman who will go to any lengths to make sure serial killers are dealt with. She doesn't stick to the letter of the law either.
Shadow Angel sees Beth Katz going undercover as a pole dancer after two pole dancers go missing. All I will say is, omg! I definitely had my heart in my mouth and blood pressure going upwards! It's a belter of a read.
Again, the storyline never falters, and I was glued to my Kindle. I do enjoy being witness to a partnership that is growing and gelling well. I am definitely addicted to this series. The strength of the characters, who aren't exactly run of the mill. They bring a sense of uniqueness to this particular series. Beth is so interesting, with her views and speciality sideline too!
It's a series that looks like it will go from strength to strength, and I'm one invested blogger. Now, when's that next book out!! Yet another highly recommended book to this series. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the gifted ebook to write my honest review.
Wow! I loved Book 1, Dark Angel, and began Book 2, Shadow Angel right after!
And guess what, no disappointment here. I loved this book even more. You start to really see the dark side of agent Beth Katz emerge!! And yet, after her kill yiu see her human side come out when she cries after holding everything inside.
I like to see her relationship start to blossom with Agent Styles. I think they are a great partnership in the making!
It was good to see Ty and Jo in the mix. I’m hoping we don’t have too much overlapping with Jo. I think Beth is a strong woman and I don’t want to see Jo to start taking control. I got the feeling she was interested in Styles — not for me. I want to see the relationship between Syles and Katz get more involved before being any kind of “love” interest in for Stykes.
I think between the dark side of Katz and her still wanting to be a good FBI agent with Styles will bring enough to the story as we learn about both of these people. And Styles still has not mentioned his sister to Katz.
I do love the dark side of Katz because there’s still enough “good” inside of her so it’s almost like getting two storylines!
D K Hood, your mind is awesome and you and your books rock!!
Having just read book one in this series I was excited to be able to read book two straight away. This one is just as good as the first book and I really like the main character, Beth Katz. Beth and Styles are called after a woman is found dead in an abandoned cabin in the woods. She has clearly been posed by the killer but they did not expect to find her sewn to the sofa. Beth and Styles discover the woman’s identity and set out to speak to miners at the exotic dance club where she worked. When another woman is killed in the same way they know they need to stop this killer quickly. Beth also has something she needs to do in this book and a killer who has been targeting mothers and children is firmly in her sights. This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I loved Beth Katz from the very first moment I 'met' her and I like her more and more. She is fierce and feisty and not easily scared. She gladly puts herself in danger in order to catch another vicious serial killer. She does this because she knows she can count on her partner Dax Styles as well as on sheriff Chase Ryder.
Fans of the other successful series by this author with Jenna Alton and Dave Kane will have noticed something familiar in 'Dark Angel', the first book in this new series. And now in this second part the connection even becomes clearer. I always wondered if we would discover more and now it seems my wish is granted.
I love the way Beth can restrain herself even though she also likes to take out the garbage on a regular basis. There really are some disturbed and vicious people out there...
Dax and Beth seem to click more and more. They go from strangers, to colleagues, to friends. Is there more to come...?
This is another amazing book by one of my favorite authors. Please, keep them coming, because they are always such a joy to devour. 5 stars
The next book in the Detective Beth Katz series starts out with a bang. Can Beth and her partner, Dex, find out what is going on before more murders happen? We find out more about Beth, Dex and the community they live in, Rattlesnake Creek. I wonder where (or, if) their relationship is going to go beyond coworker/partner?????? And, will Beth be able to keep her secret….a secret???? D.K. Hood writes a solid suspense thriller. Looking forward to reading Book 3! Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Excellent book! Detective Beth Katz is back in book #2 of my new favorite series. This book has everything I love about a mystery/thriller book! So much suspense. Beth is on the hunt for not one but two serial killers with the help of her partner Styles. I love that this series is nothing like your typical Detective chasing a serial killer storyline. Beth is not your ordinary Detective deep down she has her own way of performing justice. Which adds so much more suspense to the book ! Absolutely love this book and this series. Hoping there will be more coming!
