The Soul's Mark #3

The Soul's Mark: BROKEN

Rate this book
At first glance, Willowberg seemed like any other college town to newcomer Amelia Caldwell. But after a whirlwind of strange events, she now knows the truth—Willowberg is run by vampires—and her soulmate, Mitchell Lang, is their leader. And if that wasn’t enough, Amelia also learned that she is a witch. The vampires and humans coexisted with relative peace, or at least they did until the vampire hunters arrived. Now, Amelia finds herself at the center of a showdown, fighting not only for her freedom and that of her new vampire family, but also for the lives of Willowberg’s residents. But when Amelia’s branches of destiny cross paths, a long forgotten darkness falls upon the town. For any chance at victory, she must revisit her past and come face to face with the ultimate a fate that was decided by a force much closer to her than she could ever have imagined. Will darkness prevail, or will Amelia find the strength to mend what has been broken?

When it comes to series, consistency is the key. Stoyanoff has nailed that on the head. The beautiful town that she created for her novels never has a face lift, becoming something different from novel to novel or scene to scene. Her descriptions remain as vivid and detailed as ever without becoming redundant or drawn out. There is also a very similar writing style that runs through the series as a whole. Above all, however, I appreciate the fact that Stoyanoff’s novels are consistently well written, with this one being no exception to the rule.

Don’t get me wrong, the storyline itself definitely does not stay consistent. There are so many twists and turns in the storyline that you can barely guess where it’s going next. Stoyanoff keeps you perpetually on the edge of your seat. Looking back, you can see how the story and the characters got from point A to point B, but while reading it, you’re along for one very exciting ride. This novel is so unique that you can’t help but want to dive in and keep reading.

Ok, so before I get started on characters, you should know that I’m a huge Eric fan. Like drool and fawn, want to make him mine Eric fan. That said, Mitchell absolutely kills me in this installment. He is priceless. Stoyanoff doesn’t give him a magical personality overhaul, but yet is much more engaging than he has been in the past. I absolutely love the fact that Stoyanoff’s characters remain consistent throughout all of her novels. All of the main characters were quite well developed and rounded by the end of the second novel in the series, but you still get some new tidbits about them here. These characters draw directly at your heartstrings, which pulls you further and further into their lovely world.

This installment in the Soul’s Mark series is definitely a must have. It might be a bit difficult to read as a standalone novel as you would be missing some background information from the initial two novels, but that’s the joys of reading a series. It also does wonders for the storyline of the series as a whole. At the end, you’re left wondering: How in the world are they going to fix this one?

Please note that I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Quick note: This is only a portion of my review, the rest can be found on my blog: Accepted Wisdom

The Soul’s Mark: BROKEN is masterfully written with heart-stopping revelations, that will make the unbelievable become reality and show that true love has no boundaries.

The Soul’s Mark: Broken was my most anticipated book release of 2013 and it did not disappoint! I had to rip myself away from this novel about halfway through because the sheer terror of what was happening tore me apart. I feared the worst, my heart was heavy and I became instantly depressed. The twists and turns in the plot had me on the edge the entire time. I cried, I screamed, I even shouted along with the characters in the book. So many wild situations came to light, things I never imagined could happen. To say I was shocked would be a complete understatement. I do not want to spoil anything, but let me warn you… this book will take you on one hell of a ride that you will NEVER forget.

This third installment is fast paced and filled with twists and turns. Once again Amelia finds herself in trouble. Will her soul mate Mitchell be the one to save her or will she save herself and the whole town. You’ll have to read it to find out.
This book was unpredictable and hard to put down, and just when you think the story will resolve itself Stoyanoff throws another curveball at you. This is a book I recommend to everyone.

How often do you find a series that picks up so smoothly, it’s as if it is a continuation of the same book? Somehow, Ashley Stoyanoff manages to pick us up from one book and set us down in the next without missing a beat. The Soul’s Mark: Broken, book 3 in the Soul’s Mark series is another smooth transition from the previous book and one fast-paced, exciting journey to the next! Now having learned who and what she really is, Amelia has grown to love her town and her vampire family, but will evil crush its very existence? What must Amelia face in order to have a chance to save those she loves? Can she defeat this “enemy” and the havoc it brings? Is her destiny for the future hidden in her past? With plots within plots, this maze of events will astound you!

With characters that are growing and maturing, gaining strength and confidence and more personality, Ms. Stoyanoff blends the charm of Willowberg with the fantasy of the paranormal and makes it completely enthralling, giving the reader a”fly-on-the-wall” look into each scene that magically unfolds. The tension and twists make great high points to this fast-paced read as it uncovers more details with a smooth polish, while keeping just enough back to make the next book a MUST read as I was sucked further down the “rabbit hole” that is the Soul’s Mark series!

Some authors have a gift for story telling that keeps you coming back for more, sometimes it’s the characters, sometimes it’s the setting, sometimes it’s the plot or the romance, with this series, its all of the above! Buckle up and get ready for another great ride!

5 FreakTastic Stars!!!
Seriously Amazing and the Best So Far!

The Review:
I’ve really enjoyed this series and between the amazing cast of characters and the entertaining story, I have spent all week with these books but I can say unequivocally, The Soul’s Mark: Broken is without a doubt the best of the bunch.. so far. (I hear there’s a fourth book in the works and if it’s anything like this one, we are in for one heck of a treat!).

But back to this book and this review.

Broken picks up right where book two, The Soul’s Mark: Hunted left off after that hair-pulling cliffy. There was so much going on in this fantastic story and the action keeps going from start to finish.

Story/Characters…
Amelia and Megan find themselves in trouble, forcibly taken from their home after all the crazy events of book two. There’s a puppeteer behind the scenes pulling the strings of both Josh and Cole and a plan of hate-filled revenge is at hand. But that’s not the center of the story. Things go totally out of control when Josh takes it upon himself to try and “fix” things.

Amelia finds herself in the middle of many different plots, everyone has their own agenda and when things come to a head, it’s anyone’s guess as to how this will all turn out. She has to look within herself to find the strength and courage to lead and get through the harrowing journey she’s forced on and the thing is, it’s a full circle kind of journey, started centuries ago.

I really liked the hidden past Amelia uncovers. It all connects and it felt right that it worked out the way it did. She struggles and doesn’t have that formidable force field of family surrounding her she’s had in the last two books. For the most part, Amelia is on her own and I loved this part of the story. She has to decide what love really is, what path her life should take and what she needs to do to accomplish those wants and needs.

Mitch and the rest of the vampires are in the thick of a very bad situation but even when all seems lost for the vampire nation, their humanity comes into play. Mitch’s love for Amelia is tested in a big way and I loved that even when his soul is stripped away, the core of who his is, is still fighting for love. It was sweet and romantic and everything they’ve worked for to be together is remembered and longed for.

Complaint… Oh Yeah.. A HUGE One…
I loved all the conflict and everything the characters go through. It’s not until the end of the book that I really had any problems at all. I kept waiting for Amelia to find her power. When things come to the climax, I was really hoping Amelia would step up to the plate and find her inner goddess. But once again, someone swoops in and fixes things for her. This to me was NOT how I wanted all her trials to end. In essence, she causes all these problems and it should have been her that fixed it, ON. HER. OWN. Sure, she could have gotten guidance, but ultimately, it should have been her power, her resolution and her courage and will that should have saved the day. This was a huge disappointment. I also really didn’t like the tone this book ended on. Things are messed up even more so than they were before.

Thankfully, there’s a book four, so I’m hoping all will be set right.

The Wrap Up:
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and I loved the journey from start to finish. I wish things had gone differently in book three but ultimately, it doesn’t take away from the series and this book as a whole. I can’t wait to see whats in store for us in book four (which doesn’t yet have a title or a pub date). I can only hope things get put right and all the characters get the HEA they deserve, but either way, sign me up because I need more Mitch and Amelia and the rest of the Lang family!

OMG!! That was my response at the end of this book. Book two is still my favorite but this book was WOW.. My heart wouldn’t stop racing. Even after putting the book down for a while, when I picked it back up, my heart went back to racing. It was crazy. I didn’t know what was going to happen and I actually felt scared like I was there in the middle of it all. I’ve had my heart race through books before but feeling fear while reading was a new one.

Mitch and Amelia again go through another round of challenges. This poor couple can not catch a break, but they are meant to be together. You can feel the love they have for each other while reading. Yes Amelia had her doubts at the beginning and maybe even a little in this book, but time and time again she has proven that she loves Mitch. Nothing and no one will change that. Such a cute and sweet couple..

Poor Amelia dealt with the most pressure through this one. It seemed like the whole world rested on her shoulders. I felt for her and then was so proud of her when things started playing out.

I love Mitch and Amelia but Eric is still my favorite. I love reading about it. I wouldn’t even mind a spin off of Eric and Megan. They are such a cute couple but Eric’s playfulness and fun attitude is awesome. I can’t wait to read more about all of them.

Now the book seemed to have names popping up from everywhere. I will admit a few times I had to stop and really think about which person I was reading about. They seemed to get jumbled together and I couldn’t remember who was who with the newer names. But they all added to the story.

I couldn’t believe the cop. I think that was the biggest shock of the book. Next was Josh. Oh wow. That one threw me for a loop. And the ending. The ending was unbelievable. I was not expecting it at all. The whole book was amazing.

WOW! So far, the best in the series! And I really loved the other 2 hehe.

At the beginning, I must admit, I was kind of lost, probably because I read book 2 a few months ago.

TSM: Broken takes exactly were TSM: Hunted ended.
It picks up really fast, it's action packed!

I didn't find a moment of dullness in this amazing book.
Amelia becomes a kick ass heroine and the story has a lot of twists and turns that made me question were my loyalties were.

Mitchell becomes the hero he was meant to be and I saw a side of him I haven't been able to discoverd until now. He acted selflessly and he won a lot of points lol.

The end was hilarious, definitely not what I was expecting. It will surprise you.

Of course, I'm looking forward to the next instalment and read more about this wonderful characters that mature and get better book after book.

Thumbs up for Ashley!!!

I was happy to see the way The Soul’s Mark: BROKEN continued on so smoothly from the first two books in The Soul’s Mark series. It answered a lot of my questions and pulled everything together perfectly.

This book was wonderfully written with many twists and turns in the story that had me constantly wondering what was going to happen next. The scene descriptions were so well done that I felt like I was there and the character descriptions were in-depth enough that each character sticks with you making it feel like they are friends.

It was good to see Amelia as a strong, capable woman. She seemed to turn to Mitchell for guidance in the first two books but handled things well on her own in this book.

I particularly liked the way Stoyanoff showed, with many of her characters, that when two people are really in love, nothing will stand in their way of being together.

I highly recommend The Soul’s Mark: BROKEN

Another mind blowing book! I have been committed to this series from the moment I started it. It took me a while to finally get to the second and third books only because I didn't have the time before, but I have read the first book twice before continuing to the second one just to be 200% completely absorbed in the story all over again. This book definitely had me on the defense multiple times. I wanted to strangle Amelia a few times throughout the book, as well as some other characters for their lack of common sense on some things, but that's what makes this book so great! Yes, this is a paranormal/fantasy series, but their feelings and careless moments are anything but fake. No one likes to have flashbacks of their most embarrassing moments, but I do like the fact that this book made me do just that only because I can sympathize with the characters. They may not be real people, but they sure do feel like it and that is very important in any story I read. I also enjoyed being able to swoon plenty of times and laugh out loud. This book definitely took me on a little roller coaster ride though. I like the little plot twists and all, even if the ending did have me face palming myself. I liked feeling like a detective trying to put the puzzles together to figure out the twists thrown in the story. I jumped for joy...well more like bounced for joy, when I ended up being correct on my assumptions.
I feel this book--not just this book but the whole series--is so worth the read. It is definitely a page turner. I couldn't put the book down until the very end. I'm so wound up I am ready to start the last book of the series.
Ashley Stoyanoff, I just want to say you did an amazing job with this series. I have loved all the books I have read so far. Please keep bringing me this much excitement and joy in all your books!

Thankfully we pick up literally right where the events in "Hunted" left off. There isn't much that I can say about the story that wouldn't be a serious spoiler, so I will stick with my thoughts on the final book in this trilogy.

All of the mysteries surrounding Megan's allegiance are resolved, and finally we all learn about the entirety of Amelia's past and the role that she, and Mitchell, play in present day events.

The resolution is a relief after being kept in the dark through the other two books, and certain suspicions I had developed were confirmed. Thankfully that is not to say the ending is spelled out in advance. And days later I am still trying to decide how I feel about the final twist at the end, though I will admit that in many ways it fits the involved characters to a T. I just wish that a particular character would have grown more than they did, yet I can see the author choosing the route she did, as it leaves a foot in the door should she want to come back and tell more of the story of the residents of Willowberg.

This book was intense. Josh kidnapping the girls and using Amelia powers against her while she is cuffed to a bed. Megan being cuffed to a bed while Erin is in the room blood hungry. I was surprised that Josh used Amelia powers to break the curse. Vampire going insane because they lost there bond to there soulmate leaving them soulless. Reckless killing humans and thinking that they are pets. I couldn't believe that Josh though Amelia would actually choose him over Mitch that was a big mistake. I couldn't believe that Amelia wanted to change into a vampire for him and he changed human. But at least it broke the hunter curse and Josh is dead. I can't wait till Mitch turns back into a vampire and Im beyond happy that Amelia actually still has her powers. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

I don't understand how can people give this book 5 starts. Amelia is weak, revolting and stupid! She can't even hold her own weight by herself, seriously. She can't do anything alone and in the end someone needs to come to save the day cause of course all she wants to do is sit down and cry like a whining baby.
