BECAUSE WE CAN! is not the first time author John Locke has seemingly drawn his series about Donovan Creed to an apparent close, but without spoiling any events in the novel, this book certainly feels like a final installment, and an indication he's moving on to other characters.
The tone of finality is present from the opening page and only increases with each passing chapter, and while Locke rounds out many important plot elements and leaves readers feeling like this cast of characters has completed its time on stage, well...
...maybe I'm too big of a Creed fan to accept the finality of a closing chapter, but I certainly don't want to believe Locke will never revisit this world with us again.
If he does ever return to Creed's world, it will be one that changed significantly. He's pulled this off more than once in the series' 11-book run, drawing story cycles to conclusions that would have been acceptable stopping points if he never added to the series after that.
But this time feels a bit more final than any of the previous attempts to round things out.
Even so... really, John? Eleven may be a prime number, but... really?
Oh, by the way, the plot of the book was engaging and if you enjoy Locke, he's in top form in this installment.
But I guess I'm in the "denial" stage of grief. I just don't want to accept that a series I've enjoyed for quite a while now might be over. *sigh*
