This is a short story of teenage angst in the 1800's as two boys make a pitiful attempt to call on a girl. I'm sure much has been lost to time, but I found the story to be much for awkward than funny.
A slice of life of two boys trying to make a formal call on a girl they're attracted to, and having considerable anxiety over how to do it. To their dismay, they're treated like the children they are, and invited to dinner and a sleepover instead.
A fairly long-winded story about a couple of young boys trying to “call on girls” with very little understanding of the doings thereof. It’s somewhat painful to read, if you have any empathy for the boys, and it proceeds like a sitcom episode where event after event just compounds their awkwardness and the fact the family they came to call on is making fun of them.
