Still recovering at a hospital on the north coast of Dakru, Elei is convinced that his part in bringing down the Gultur is over. Rex has infected the other race and their dictatorial system is starting to collapse. Not every Gultur, though, has been affected, and on top of that, inside Elei's body, Rex has matured and goes through another transformation. Elei isn't sure he can survive Rex's new strength - but that may prove the last of his worries as the Gultur descend on him again.

I RECEIVED AN ARC OF THIS IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW
The first book left me with some unanswered questions so I was only to happy to read the next book in the series. I'm still confused with all the parasite talk and trying to keep all of them straight. Even though that has me confused it didn't stop me from enjoying the story. This story is still just as action packed as the first book maybe even more so than the first one. All the action kept me wondering what they would get into next. Elei, Kalaes, and Hera have grown quite a bit in this book. Hera doesn't seem so cold hearted she shows real concern when she thinks they are being tortured by the Gultur. Yep you heard me right the Gultur are still looking for him. Though Elei managed to bleed in the fountain not all of the Gultur were affected and those that weren't want him found. This book was even harder for me to review cause of my dislike of spoilers. Elei is drawn to Hera and I'm interested to see what's gonna happen with this with Rex. This was a good book that I would recommend to anyone that loves Science Fiction books. I look forward to reading the next book in the series even though I do get confused at times. Thank you Chrystalla Thoma for opening me up to different books.
First sentences, "Inserted in Elei’s wrist, a thick needle dripped painkillers and serum into a vein. He stared at the sliver of metal thrust into his bruised flesh, wondering what drew him out of his drugged sleep. Then his eyes drifted closed again, dreams crowding behind his lids. A vicious stab in his stomach jerked him wide awake and he curled around the pain, his breathing harsh and shallow. The room flashed with colors, and even as the pain subsided, he knew he wouldn’t be returning to sleep any time soon. Rex, the king of his parasites, had sensed something. Danger. Trying to remember if he’d always reacted so strongly to the parasite’s alerts, Elei pulled out the needle, hissing at the sting, and threw it on the bedside table. Using his non-too-clean sheet to staunch the bleeding, he glanced around the room, blinking to clear his eyes. The meds made him sluggish, and his body felt heavy and cold like stone."
As much as I enjoyed Chrystalla Thoma's first novel of Elei's Chronicles ("Rex Rising"), I enjoyed this one even more. Where sometimes second novels disappoint, this one improves on an already great story concept and set of characters. The opening, which picks up where the first novel left off, is equally compelling: "Inserted in Elei's wrist, a thick needle dripped painkillers and serum into a vein." If only a little pain was all he had to worry about...
Even more compelling than her first novel, "Rex Cresting" takes the reader back into Elei's world where he and his friends face new challenges and new dangers. I won't spoil the story by revealing anything other than to say that if you read and enjoyed "Rex Rising," you'll love this one. Read the synopsis of this one if you want to know more. Then purchase and read the novel. You will not be disappointed. Both novels are on my "highly recommended" list for readers of all genres.
Elei continues the adventure started in the book Rex Rising only now he is starting to piece together parts of a message that he thought were just shards of dreams. The new disease that is gaining ground in his body is giving him superhuman powers. He will need every edge he can get to solve the mystery his mentor left and help the world emerge from the Gultur oppression. In this installment Elei begins to feel for the people around him and a family starts to take shape.
Creepy bit is his hallucinations and the disease controlling animals in order to protect him. I'm cheering this series on.
This is the second of a series that is more than a trilogy in YA to adult science fiction and it is very addicting. I enjoyed it and recommend it.
Rex Cresting, the second book in this series by Chrystalla Thoma, continues Elei's battle with the Gultur and his own parasites, Rex and Chronion.
A new character is introduced from Hera's past, which the group of friends are divided between deciding whether she is friend or foe.
Sexual tension builds further between Elei and Hera, but Hera clings to the ways of her people, making it impossible for Elei to act upon his desires. Elei is also unsure whether his parasite 'Rex' is behind his desire and is controlling his feelings for some alternative purpose.
This book is an exciting and fast paced read from beginning to end, as Elei and his friends gather new information and piece together answers to the secrets of their world.
The concept behind this series is awesome as you'd know if you read book 1, Rex Rising. Book 2, Rex Cresting is just as interesting, if not more so. It's fascinating to get a deeper look into the Gultar, the female rulers of a war torn world and even more lovely to have the bonds between the characters grow stronger and stronger despite the misunderstandings that arise while Elei runs for his life, fights to rescue his friend Kalaes, and trys to do the right thing no matter how much the parasites within him disagree. I am very much looking forward to book 3.
In this second book you get to see the further development of Elei as a hero. He is flawed but he is determined not not let Rex control him completely There is further development of his relationship with Kalaes as he tries to understand his "dreams" Hera continues to try to figure out her feeling for both Elei and Kalaes. Can't wait for the next book in the series...Guess it's time to go back and read Hera
Loved it. Wish I could give the 6 or 7 stars. She took the world she built in the last book and added to it making become even more alive on the page. I love Rex and his whole ragtag band who are trying to change the world. I love cats. This book is the middle of a series but unlike many middle books everything was just bigger and better than the first.
It was good. Ended rather suddenly but it will be a good follow on for the 3rd book. I can't say that i found it as great as Rex Rising. i found that it lacked something, kind of like that spice you can never put your finger on but you know the food needs it.
That being said, the addition of the new character "something-or-other" was a good addition, except that she was a bitch at times.
