Exploring Quadra Island: Heritage Sites & Hiking Trails

Rate this book
Exploring Quadra Island is a handy guide to the historical sites and hiking trails of this beautiful island. This book serves as a guide to 22 heritage sites, hiking trails and canoe/kayak routes on Quadra Island, all of them scenic and some possessing haunting links to the past. Hikes along the rocky bluffs of the Chinese Mountains, with their 60-degree views of the Discovery Islands; paddling through the interconnected Village Bay Lakes system; and bush-whacking to find the remains of an old gold mine, are some of the highlights of north Quadra Island. The south island offers as easily accessible collection of outings of equal beauty and interest. Picnicking at Rebecca Spit Marines Provincial Park, with its graduated vistas of islands and mountains; a visit to the Kwagiulth Museum in the contemporary First Nations village of Cape Mudge; or a ramble along the boulder-strewn beach below Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge in search of petroglyphs (ancient carvings in stone), are within a short drive of the Quathiaski Cove ferry dock.

Thoroughly enjoyed. We read it while exploring the island for the first time. One of the most entertaining and fascinating local guidebooks I've ever read. Unique insights into much more than just the island sites. Out of print, unfortunately, but this original version is worth tracking down or borrowing if you're headed to Quadra.

Excellent book of trails to hike and history. I learned more about the place my grandpa grew up in (Granite Bay in the 1920s).
