It's been two years since that day when the skies shed tears over the deaths of The Light's family, over the spilt blood of innocence, over the capture of The Heart, and over the making of the Promise. Even as her light dims and the destruction of The Heart draws nigh, hope lives on through the discovery of a Being who tells her two words which will set in motion forces that have patiently waited millennia for their quiet utterance. These two simple words: "Show them".
I am a young writer and I hope that one day that my books will be movies, although there's a 5% chance of that happening in my life time and a 7% chance of that happening after my life time.
I have two dogs, Wiley and Wyatt; two Guinea Pigs, Graham and Alvin; and two horses, Polish Arabian mare Dixie and Spanish Mustang gelding Phantom.
My favorite things to do are: make charcoal drawings (my profile photo is one of my charcoal drawings), participate in archery, Paleontology, and writing.
Broken is the first book in the Promise series by teenage author Michelle Lammers. Michelle has an eye for detail which draws you into the story. The characters and places come alive through the descriptive narrative. While the key characters are well-developed, some of the supporting characters need to be fleshed out a little more which may happen in future books.
There were a few typos and grammatical errors in the book, but it didn’t detract from the story. The storyline is a little dark, but the humor helps lighten the mood. While there is no cursing in the book, parents may want to pre-read to see if it lines up with their beliefs due to some violence and magic. The use of Latin for magic is quite interesting. (There is a guide to the language of the Latin Magicians to help readers with the use of Latin in the book.)
The illustrations, also done by Michelle, were well done and added interest to the book.
The ending was unexpected and left me wanting to read more. I’m looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Fulfilling, to find out what happens.
