This series is beyond amazing! Just when you think you know who to trust, you think again. Just when you think Shade can't possibly complete her mission, she proves you wrong. Just when you think you finally understand all the faerie worlds and their leaders, nope.
This is a series that must be read in order or you will be missing some extremely important pieces of the puzzle. I promise you it will be worth it. I am glad I started this series when it was completed, or I'd be hanging from the ceiling by my toenails waiting!
In this book, Shade must come face to face with her destiny. Failure is not an option - not for her loved ones, the faeries who need her, and most of all, herself and Dylan. Pulling strength from resources she didn't even know she had, she will face everything thrown at her head-on. She may be small. She may be young. She may be only half faerie. She may have to learn as she goes.
Soon the world will know what one young, small, determined girl can do.
These books just get better and better with each one! Such an Amazing series!!! It was so great getting back to Shade and her Faerie friends! It felt like It had been too long since I last left them and once I started reading I couldn't put my kindle down! It has plenty of suspense, jaw dropping, shocking moments.. you won't believe what all goes on and what Shade has to go through.. plenty of action and romance! this book has everything any reader is looking for! And there's more to come I can't wait to see what Aveta has up her sleeve next and what's to come in the next book!!
Loved this story of A human changeling , enjoyed the great friendships, and how Shade and Soap handled multiple sides of relationships. Teaching us not to let love or the lack of it ruin a friendship. Love a sad and happy ending, got both , In life both exist , so they should also in a fairy tale. Jade finally gets to spend time with her family, but is too busy to enjoy them. I think the Ancient Fae may end up a problem, I have a feeling I might need to read Withering Palace again, are they connected? Idk, can't remember. Love the characters, Dylan and Soap. I do however have issues with how easily Shade defeated The Queen to recover her throne. Needed a little more battle, but I still loved it.
Dylan is back booyashacka mutha f*cka! So totally inappropriate for a review, but it's my review so I'm gonna be like that and shiz. Anyway. LOL. This book begins with Shade recovering from her imprisonment, by Aveta, on a beach in Fairie. Her magic has been bound by Corb and she feels lost and isolated. Her feelings for Soap, while still there are not as intense as they are for Dylan (Me so happy. I like Soap, but I love Dylan....kinda like Shade.) In order to get her magic unbound Shade must go to Corb and get him to undo his magic on her. And so begins our quest.... And what a quest it was. ACTION packed. Shade never gets a moments peace poor girl. There are twists and turns in this book that I did not see coming. These books keep getting better and better and better. I love them. How many are there going to be Alexia? Cuz I want, need, no DEMAND more! Alexia's strong point as a writer, is her writing. She doesn't need typical tricks to lure readers in. She weaves a magical, hypnotic spell with her words and then blows us away with her epic skills. She really, really shines when writing action filled scenes and this book is not short on them. Shade just keeps growing, and getting stronger with each book. Magically and mentally. She is really turning into a great character. The romantic tension in these books is really great, and we don't even toe the line of NA. This is clearly in the YA lines. Nothing sexual done, or even implied other than some steamy kissing scenes. Boy are they steamy too. ;-) Overall, in my opinion, the best of the series yet. I am in love with it, and want to re-read it some day soon. Also, will be buying the autographed copy for my collection. **I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. This review is 100% honest and 100% written by me. There are no quotes in this review because parts of it a subject to change. Check out my other reviews at my blog Contagious Reads
I received a copy from the author for an honest review. Do you ever get so excited about the next book in a series your hands start to sweat and nothing else in the world exists around you because you know everything else will stop so you can read it? That’s exactly how I felt when I picked this up. Ms. Purdy is the master when it comes to her writing style. You experience what the characters are going thru as if you are standing right next to them in all of her stories. After being left powerless, Shade, Soap, and Dylan team up to figure out how to help her get the powers back she once held. Only an Ancient can lift the curse that has fallen upon her. Shade is going to have to decide where her heart belongs and in the process of seeking her powers, she’s going to have to agree to something everyone else would have forbidden her to do. But at what cost will Shade go thru to save the ones she loves? Will it be worth getting her powers back to protect those she holds dear? Someone she thought she trusted will betray her but there will be no turning back at that point. Great story as usual, Ms. Purdy
I stumbled upon the first Faerie Tale (Ever Shade) on Amazon, playing on my kindle, and was so very happy that I did. I finished it in a day and bought the second one the minute the first was completed. Upon finishing Ever Fire, I was madly searching the internet, needing another dose of Shade and Dylan, and even Soap, although I'm definately team Dylan. Before I could expire from "what happens next?" syndrome, Alexia was wonderful enough to provide me with an ARC of Ever Winter.
It was a fascinating, easy read. The tension builds nicely and there are a good number of little twists and turns to keep the readers on their toes. Every time I was sure nothing else could happen to shock me, sure enough it did. The best things about this series (and it holds true for Ever Winter, as it has with the previous two) is that there is plenty of natural action to keep the story moving without falling back on a meaningless subplot or stringing something along for much longer than it deserves. I always feel like there's a book in a series that sort of drags on, or just fills up the space until the closing action packed finale. I have not, to this point, encountered any such horrid phenomenon in the Dark Faerie Tale series. Alexia keeps the story flowing effortlessly with crests and valleys aplenty, but no forced, space-filling nonsence; so I applaud you, Alexia!
The reader will never stop wondering what happens next. I am almost sorry I got an ARC because now I have to wait such a terribly long time to discover Shade's next steps, to live another day in Shade's wonderful Faery tale world. And indeed, that is how this book makes me feel. When I read it, I was in Faery with Shade and Dylan, cheering quietly from a darkened corner when something went the way I was hoping, and crying my eyes out on the floor right beside her when Shade's world was crumbling, as it inevitably seems to do from time to time.
These books have worked their alluring magic on me and I am not one bit ashamed to say I feel rather emotionally invested. I am, in fact, delighted to say I will be staying aboard the Dark Faery Tale train to the end, on the edge of my seat with excitement to see how Ms. Purdy concludes such a delightful, touching, fun story.
So anyone thinking about reading this, do it. It's a great diversion I would suggest and have suggested to anyone who enjoys the genre.
I was one of the lucky ones to receive a ARC Copy of this book! And boy was I not disappointed! Everything you are about to read is my full and honest opinion about the book!
What a wonderful follow-up to "Ever Fire"! Alexia Purdy has done it again with the third book of "The Dark Faerie Tale Series"! She has done a remarkable job with this one!
This book has so many twist and turns, ups and downs, it really was so much fun to read. It was NON-STOP action, adventure, romance, fighting! I mean this book has EVERYTHING that you could possible want and more! Alexia has created an enchanting world here in "Ever Winter! Her descriptive writing allows the reader to feel like their part of the book! The suspense she has built up in this is truly shocking! It is seriously non-stop action, adventure, and fun!
We follow Shade again through her journeys across the Faerie lands. But this time it's different. This time Shade is broken! She was left shattered in "Ever Fire"! She is healing from physical and emotional wounds. But most of all Shade is stripped of the very thing that makes Shade feel like herself! Her powers! They were bound without her knowledge in "Ever Fire"! Shade has no idea who or when this happen in her time of imprisonment in Aveta's kingdom. Only thing Shade knows is that she is hurting! She's hurting in every possible way a person can.
But Shade has a mission and she's determined to finish it! Shade wants her powers back and she's determined to find out who took them and why! So Shade sets out on a journey to get her powers back. She has to go through many obstacles and heartache to claim back what is rightful hers!
This book is truly my favorite in the series so far! It took me on a ride that was like on other! If you read "The Dark Faerie Tale Series" then this is a must! And if you haven't, then you need to because this series is definitely one of a kind! It's worth 5 stars and more!
It was hard for me to watch Shade go from being a strong woman, to something different, "I know, it's just..." Shade sat up, frustrated with herself more than anything else. "I'm sorry, I - I don't know what to do. I can't handle this." She slammed a hand into the sand, it's cool grains dug into her skin. I'm tired of being strong and taking responsibility for the Land of Faerie. Now, I can't even do that, or do any magic at all. I have nothing left to give... I..." Girl I feel for you but sitting on your arse and feeling sorry for yourself ain't helping your situation for crying out loud there are to hot men looking out for you confide in Dylan and Soap! You know for the life of me I'm not sure why Dylan and Shade just don't hurry it up and make out already we all know how much they care for one another, "Dylan edged closer to her, bringing an arm around her shoulders and pulling her into a snug embrace." Dylan when you say certain things you earn my on your team more and more, "I'll never leave you again; that I swear. Nothing will ever harm you again. I will never allow it. With that, his lips slipped onto hers, soft and sizzling." IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! You know Soap way to leave her when she needs you the most, although I can understand, "I can't. I can't watch you love him more. Not this time around. When he was gone, it was tolerable - it was easier to imagine that you loved me." We really need to find you a girl. I think Brisa and Soap would make a great couple, but I hope their not just filling the void as they lost to someone they love. I also just remember the next book to the series isn't out yet only the novella so that means Heather has to wait to find out what happens I hate waiting.

This series must be read in order. The first book is The Withering Palace. The second book is Evangeline. The third book is Ever Shade. The fourth book is Ever Fire. This is the fifth book. I can't wait to read The Cursed!
Shade is trying to recover from her ordeal in the Unseelie Court. Darren's torture is incredibly hard to come back from. So there is that. Also she seems to have lost her magic and she is always cold... Will she ever be okay again? What happened to her magic? Will she ever feel whole again? Or will she remain broken and frozen inside and out despite the best efforts of Dylan and Soap? Has Aveta already won by destroying Shade?
***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy a little horror in their dark fantasy with lots of intrigue, suspense, action, adventure, betrayal and quickly shifting loyalties along with a dash or two of forbidden romance :)
I fell in love with Purdy's work whilst reading Ever Shade, and the books just keep getting better and better. I literally jumped at the chance to get an ARC of Ever Winter.
Shade's world keeps getting bigger, her choices harder, and her love life more complicated. And the story just gets more involved, dragging you into her world at breakneck speeds.
Shade grows up a lot in this book. Considering how much she has grown since the first books that may sound surprising, but it's true. Events in the book make her stronger.
The ending leaves you with images of what may happen in the next instalment, and part of me almost wishes I hadn't accepted the ARC, because now I have slightly longer to wait before the next instalment is released. Almost.
I love this series. Each book keeps getting better and better! I'm sooo happy Dylan and Shade are finally together. It took long enough. But iono. Soap and Brisa....really. I guess. But dude that was your best friends ex boyfriend. Iono.....She had always wanted him. but whatever. I can't wait for book 4.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I waited for so long to read this and it was truly worth the wait. Shade continues on her path of self discovery. She needs to stop Aveta and her army, choose who she loves, go to Corb's 'The ancient ice king' kingdom, then take her rightful place as a queen. This may have been well worth the wait but now I have to sit and wait for the next. This is a must read for everyone!
Oh my! This novel just twisted everything! The ending...guys....i'm hanging on a cliff and I don't know if i can hang on with out book 4!!!!! I love Shade, and Soap, and Dylan, i love the evolution of their character in this novel and i love the way the novel is continuing to play out.
I have to admit that I did not like Shade in this one. She played with Soap’s emotions and was very annoying in general. Making Brisa the rebound girl did not sit well with me. I will continue the series just to see what happens.
i got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review...
NOOOO!!!!! i need the next book like now!!!!! but i am very excited that i am right and she picked the guy i wanted. hahahahahaha. this was a very exciting read!
this book continues again right where everything left off. After being left powerless, Shade, Soap, and Dylan team up to figure out how to help her get the powers back she once held. She knows Corb took her powers, and she falls into a very deep depression. Dylan finds out that Only an Ancient can lift the curse that has fallen upon her. Shade is starting to short her love life out. She is dating Soap, but everything is is with Dylan things feel so much better. Soap is making her choose who she wants because he says he knows that her heart in not with him in the way that he wants her to be. Shade is going to have to decide where her heart belongs and in the process of seeking her powers, she's going to have to agree to something everyone else would have forbidden her to do. But at what cost will Shade go thru to save the ones she loves? Will it be worth getting her powers back to protect those she holds dear? Someone she thought she trusted will betray her but there will be no turning back at that point
Shade will find herself blood bound again to another person, and she is tired of getting the short end of the stick, but realizes this also could be a good thing. her spirit guides will tell her even more about her history and will leave you with you mouth hanging down to your chin. Also, this author is not afraid to kill off a main character.. THAT IS RIGHT MY FRIENDS... someone important dies, but i am not going to tell you! Shade will find out who her true friends are, and she will have to also face that fact that she will not like every things that happens and will have to "man" up and put her big girl panties on!
I received this ARC book to give an honest review.
Remarkable! I have to say that each of these books title is named very uniquely and matches the book perfectly. With Ever Shade you get to know about Shade who is the main character, in Ever Fire you learn that she has the ability of fire and will not get burned by touch Dylan. Now this book Ever Winter what can you expect? Well in this book she ends up meeting the Icy King who is more than he seems. So the book title matches the book perfectly. There are so many twists and turns that you will not see most of them coming! You will be hooked into this story from the beginning and wanting more at the end. Shade will lose a part of herself, suffer a personal lost, and have to pick between Dylan and Soap. You will Shade pick herself up and become stronger than she has before. In Ever Winter Shade just does not get a break, poor thing can not even breath for very long as she has her hands filled with action. Not only that she is in love with two guys but she doesn't quite know which one she wants to be with. She is faced with harder decisions, fighting with the evil that wants to get rid of her and pretty much take over Faery.
I can not wait to read more in this series, as where the ending left off I am kind of sad the fourth book is not out yet. This is one series that will keep you captured from the beginning, and will leave you wanting more. GO AND PICK UP THIS SERIES! It is a must for all those that love action, faeries, magic.
Ever Winter was an amazing continuation of the A Dark Faerie Tale series! Poor Shade has been stripped of all her magic and is powerless. This is never a good thing when there is a faerie war raging that keeps dragging her in the middle. Shade ultimately fears for the safety of her family and friends. But, they turn out to be of great help to her in her times of need.
I tore through this book. It was just so interesting and I am completely captivated by the characters the author has created. Shade has matured into a magnificent young woman that is strong and can speak her mind very clearly. I enjoyed that aspect of her character extremely. Shade is still trying to choose between Dylan and Soap, but the decision is clearly made by the end of Ever Winter. Yay!
So, the plot is great and kept me guessing the whole way through. All of the characters are really well thought out and the imagery that Purdy created is brilliant. The Ice King was a perfect "bad guy" and his Kingdom even had me feeling a little frosty! Overall, a quick read and if you love anything to do with faeries, this series is most definitely for you.
This was a kick butt book that I was highly anticipated and I was not disappointed. I was given this book by Alexia Purdy to read and review. I will say that I am so excited about the next book in series. This is a amazing series that is a must read that keeps you asking for more and never let's you down. With so many twist, turns, and forks in the roads you never know what will happen next it keeps you glued to your seats.
As Shade is trying to recuperate and get back what was lost. With finding out that her life is in for more adventures and will find the true love that was right in front of her face. Between deciding who she will pick Dylan or Soap? Where will her heart lead her as she is has the fight of her life to fight the evil? As there will causalities and personal lose during battle after finding out she is meant to be more than she wants.
Alexia Purdy style of writing is amazing and I can't wait for the next chapter in this saga. I want to thank Alexia for letting me read this awesome book. If you haven't read this series I highly suggest and support this series. Hurry Alexia Purdy get the next chapter of the series written.
So Shade spends a good portion of the book healing not only mentally but physically. She has lost her power and her self. She is spinning a huge downward spiral and the only this or someone that is able to pull her out of it seems to be Dylan. Soon she is told why she has lost her power it was taken by and ancient and the only way she will be able to get it back is to go to this ancient and get it.When she gets to this ancients place she and Dylan thought they were ready but they were anything but. She has to fight to find a way to remember who she is. Soon she is brought to the faerie palace that is suppose to be hers and fights her way to take it back and does and soon begins the battle to put faerie back in order because the wards are all falling down and the world will soon see there is more there than what they think and not only that but everything that Shade fights to protect will be in harms way. Book three is by far thee best one i am hooked and in withdraw without something new to read!!!!
Shade is bound to Dylan and both of them don't know what they need to do to get unbound. Her powers have disappeared and the only one that can help her is the same one that may be trying to kill her....the Ice King. It is he who can give Shade her powers back but at what cost. Will Dylan and Shade do what it takes to get her powers back or will the Ice King keep them forever in the world of ice??
I am absolutely in love with this series. The progression of Shade throughout the books is fantastic...she is learning to accept who she is, what she needs to do and how to do it. There seems to be a lot ahead of her but she has already come so far. The characters in this book are great and add so much to the story. Alexia is a fantastic author and knows how to keep a reader engaged in the storyline.
I honestly think each book is getting better in this series. Im loving the way Shade is evolving in each book, coming into her own if you will. The love triangle is still going but you can almost feel her swaying to the one she really belongs with, before she even makes the choice. Shade has gone through so much to get to the throne which belongs to her. I really recommend that you get yourself ingrossed in this amazing series. I promise you wont feel let down...... well maybe and that is only if you get impatient waiting for the next chapter in Shade's adventurous life like I am!!!!
For me, this was the best book of the series so far but now I don’t want to wait for the next. The characters have developed significantly as the series has continued, and Shade continues to go from strength to strength. As with all wars, you expect casualties on both sides, and I was glad that the author remembered this when writing the book. Well written and cleverly worked out, I can’t wait to see what is in store next.
I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Alexia Purdy has done it again with her newest book in the Shade series, Ever Winter!
The unexpected twists and turns of Shade's journey always amaze me, as well as the (to me) unfathomable way Alexia weaves together a world completely out of her imagination....although by the time you are done, it will feel real!
Even though it is a YA book dealing with fairies and other realms, I found it fascinating to read, keeping me up WAY too late last night!
I highly recommend this book, as well as those preceding it: Ever Shade and Ever Fire.
I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next book. I love that it's clean, it's easy to read, it keeps you wanting to read it until the very last page. It was easy to feel Shade's pain and confusion, as well as her victories. I'm looking forward to more of her as Queen in the next one and the continuing love of Dylan (though I'm a bit curious if there's something to the Teleen/Mer) and what else lies in store for them all.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a pretty good series watching Shade come into her powers as well as take over as Queen. She is finally coming to grips with who she is and who she really loves. The one thing I enjoy is she stops being a fickle whining female and puts on her big girl pants. We learn a little more each book about her and the people in her group as they grow and go through each trial. Waiting for the next book in the series to see what happens next!
Omg omg omg...that was amazing..I can't believe she left the book as a cliffhanger. I need the next one like ASAP. Loved the way everything came together..and how shade has become even more of the woman/queen she is meant to be..I can't wait for the next book and am excited to read it when it comes out. Love this series!
The books keep getting better and better! My only complaint...that I finished so fast and now have to wait for the next one. Yet again there are so many twists and turns. I love how Shade has been developed. The romantic tension continues to build. There is a lot of action and adventure and the ending leaves you counting the days until the next book. I am loving this series.
Loved Ever Winter like the rest of the series. I feel like the story is getting darker and all the characters are becoming more developed. The story moves, and keeps you turning the pages. Can't wait for the next installment.
