About the author

Roger has worked with one of the largest, independent, fee-only wealth management firms in the country since 1994. He is a popular speaker and author on biblical principles of finance, publishing his first book in 2013. Roger graduated from the University of Kentucky, where he also played second base for the Wildcats.

I doubt that anyone would disagree that money is a major concern in the world today. We either want more of it, are overwhelmed by the responsibility of it or afraid of what to do with it. Finances are such an important part of our lives that many success trainers recommend that we go to at least one financial conference/seminar per year. Even, Christians, struggle with how to manage their finances. Herein, lies the mission of Roger W. Gum, author of the book Financial Faithfulness.
A Summary of Book
In Financial Faithfulness, Roger provides a concise overview of biblical principles that can be applied by the believer in order for them to honour God in their finances. He begin the book by explaining the need for a biblical perspective, the purpose of money, and making wise decisions. Subsequent chapters go into key topics such as taxes, debt, investing, budgets (spending) plans. He concludes with discussing the need for the believer to consider how to leave a legacy.
My Opinion
This book provides a good starting point for any believer who needs to get some foundational questions answered in the area of finances. In addition, it can be used for group study. Roger has indicated that he would be continue to make presentations on this topic with the book as a resource. This is good sense.
I give it 4 stars!

I recieved this book from Goodreads.

If I could have given 10 stars I would have. This book is that amazing. It is easy to read, easy to understand and easy to implement. Unlike other financial books, this is truly written with a Biblical basis. This book easily sets out God's plan for how we are to manage His money and the rewards we can expect if we follow God's plan.

Financial Faithfulness is written in a logical order. He takes you from learning all money is God's and we are His managers through giving and the benefits to investing and long term financial planning. Mr. Gum explains each section, then presents the Biblical basis and finishes with providing practical suggestions and stories. This book is truly God inspired.

My favorite parts of this book are learning about how all money is ours and we are God's managers. The need to refrain from debt and why, but this book does not stop there it assists you in getting out of debt realistically and Biblically. It also addresses saving and the how and why of preparing for the future.

I love this book and will refer to it frequently as I learn to manage God's money and trust God to care for me. This book would be excellent for anyone wanting to take control of their financial life while giving glory to God.

Roger Gum's "Financial Faithfulness: Unlocking Scripture to Avoid the Distraction of Money" is a look at money and finances from a Biblical perspective. Chapters cover topics such as investing in retirement, taxes, spending plans, becoming debt free and so on. It is really quite an informative book.
All too often in modern society, we see people from all classes resorting to unethical behaviors, including causing harm to their fellow man, for just a few dollars more. Greed has lead to wars, criminal activity and the destruction of families. Most married couples break up due to communication or financial matters. Money often consumes people and keeps them from seeing what is truly important, being a good steward.
As the newer adage goes, "You Never See a U-Haul Following a Hearse". In the words of Mr. Gum, "As you begin to see riches from a biblical perspective, you will experience the financial freedom and peace of mind that everyone desires, but few find." I would recommend this book to anyone seeking the financial freedom and peace of mind that Mr. Gum is referring to, as it is something that we could all benefit from. Financial Faithfulness by Roger Gum unlocks scripture to help guide you on the right path to financial happiness. He explains that work is a good thing but not to let money be a distraction and loose focus on what is important in life.
Roger goes on to explain that "God owns it all and we are just faithful stewards on this short time on earth." The key is to find a happy balance in work, faith, and family.
I thought the book was going to be preachy, but he backs up his explanation with passages from the Bible and personal experiences in his life.
Financial Faithfulness was joy to read and it left me with a different view of how I regard work, any my contribution to this world and the future of our children.

If Christians read and lived by this book, we would see much fruit in our lives. If we could be faithful in the handling of the primary resource that consumes our lives, then our lives would be far more effective. If we settled the question of ownership and stewardship forever, we would also enjoy far more peace. Roger Gum has captured the essence of handling money with Biblical wisdom and integrity. He systematically teaches principles for financial faithfulness that ought to be a necessary study for every Christian, young and old, new convert or veteran of the faith. Far from a dry read, I found this book to be an easy read that was entertaining, full of practical advice interspersed with illustrative anecdotes.

Great handbook covering the many facets of being a good steward of what God has entrusted yo you. easy to read with lots of personal stories and scripture woven in at just the right points. I will recommend this to others and wish I had it early in our marriage!
