They are the best of the best, the Navy SEALs. The world’s most elite fighting force. A vital kill-mission inside Afghanistan uncovers an unexpected and deadly plot to use a nuclear weapon. A weapon that could cost thousands of American lives. Once more, the Navy SEALs are called into action. Bravo Platoon, SEAL Team 7, parachutes into action. Yet a question mark hangs over Chief Petty Officer Kyle Nolan. A question mark over his health, and his ability to hold the platoon together. Can he still cut it after the murder of his wife tore him apart? If he comes unstuck during the mission, the lives of them all are in danger. With no time to make changes, Nolan stays in place. The mission must continue, the stakes are too high, the enemy vicious and clever enemy. Bravo face a succession of daunting and overwhelming obstacles before they can uncover the truth. When they do find it, even their commanders refuse to believe the damning evidence that Bravo sends back. Alone and unaided, they press forward to pursue their enemy into the snowy wastes of the Afghan borderlands, the Hindu Kush, to try to prevent a catastrophic terrorist attack. This action packed novel explores the shadowy and violent world of the Navy SEALs in a story that is as exciting as the actions of the SEALs themselves.
I'm not going to rate this because it was every bit as awful as I expected it to be, but I am totally not the audience for this book, so I doubt that my rating would be helpful to anyone. Having said that, this book is a series of cliches and stereotypes packed into a patriotic pablum that is easily digestible by people who see the world in black and white. If you like your propaganda pre-digested for you, and are seeking books that will leave your jingoistic perspective entirely unchallenged, this one is for you.
Let me add, as well, that I do not say this out any disdain for the United States miltary, which does mostly great work under frequently difficult circumstances. This sort of one-dimensional approach to complicated issues just isn't my thing.
Very poorly written. Not very accurate the way the author has the SEALS address each other. Very far fetched plot. The things that he has the SEALS do would never happen. A long drawn out boring read that I had to force myself to finish.
Would somebody tell me how you do this with a “Glock 9mm?”
Underlined:
“He cocked the action and held the gun in his lap. Was it a coward’s way out? Yeah, maybe it was, but it was also the only way out. He slid off the safety….”
So…this is all unmitigated bllsht? Or what? This author is the real deal or not?
Oh…you can NOTbreak someone’s neck and kill them with a head-twist like on the teevee.
This is the first book I read by this author and it was better than I thought it would be. It's not great literature, but for a quick action/thriller, it wasn't bad.
Main issue I had was author kept writing "Seal(s)," when it should (always) be SEAL(s). Navy SEAL, where SEAL stands for 'Sea, Air, and Land.' It is always capitalized! It was not in the book copy I read. That was my biggest issue.
I thought the action and plot were interesting enough and liked the characters for the most part.
I saw some reviews mention the romance aspect. It was really minimal and I didn't mind it. I might be overthinking things, but I think it was added to humanize the character, to show that they have stuff going on outside of the missions. Even action movies often throw in a wife/girlfriend or family for the hero to tackle with. In the beginning of the book Nolan mentioned he was married to the SEALs and to his wife. I think the look into Nolan's issues with his wife's death and later the start of a relationship with Carol were to show that aspect - both sides of the "marriage" coin. At first I thought he was moving a bit too fast with Carol...but I get the sense some time passed (months?) since his wife's death from when they actually started to be physical. I mean, these SEALs are courting death all the time, so waiting years to move on with his life might not be something he has the luxury for. People in special forces don't live normal lives and I think to judge them by the standards of what we as normal people do in a situation, is faulty. So I sort of just took things as they were and didn't nitpick it much.
I did think Nolan's blackout problem after he stopped drinking and was on mission was a bit lame. I don't even know if blackouts due to...emotional stress or upset are a thing like that? But I am glad that they seem to be cured after he completed his revenge on all parties involved in his wife's death. So, they should not be coming up in other books.
Fast-moving page-turner, this book is not for the faint of heart. While there is a great deal of heart for family (both fellow Seals and their own back-home family), there is no place for reflection; their work is just needed for the safety and security of the United States of America.
You are embedded with a Seal team in the jungles of South America and the wastelands of Afghanistan. You hear the encrypted radio conversations and suppressed muzzle firings while given a steady diet of the various weaponry used by the elite fighters.
For sure, the Seals work is dangerous and the bars that they hang out in are macho dives.
But the Seals have a soft side. They come together to help each other when injured or their families are threatened.
This book has a consistent story line involving the drugs that are sent from Afghanistan to finance the Taliban.
The finale is a revenge action to take out a high level Afghan drug dealer when he makes a trip to the USA.
Despite the title and the description this book begins with a rescue mission in Nicaragua. It involves Talley whom we met in Raid on Somalia. The cover matches the book I downloaded.
And the team moves on to the Sandbox. Still with the profanity and editing errors. As others have written a Brit writing about American Special Ops and a rather simplistic obvious plotline.
Afghani’s are motivated by power, not politics. Whoever has the upper hand at the moment has their loyalty and allegiances turn on a dime.
On the plus side the author defines his military jargon often in too much detail. His lengthy descriptions and bios of all the characters, the scenes, and structures slow down what should be action adventure to a crawl. He uses language that makes one glad Kindle has a dictionary function. The book contains profanity and needs a further edit.
Audiobook: I was entertained by this fast-moving story. I felt for Kyle Nolan who was reeling over the murder of his wife. I liked the support of his brothers-in-arms and their patience and understanding as Kyle went on a mission with them. I enjoyed all the action. I appreciated the flashes of humor which occurred in the dialogue. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought Roy Wells' narration was great as his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
This SEAL Team Bravo are all terrific. Their love of their country and the love of each SEAL is powerful. Nolan Talley,Brice and the rest of them work together and their love shows clearly with each assignment will continue to read every book this author wrote and writes. Excellent
I thought that this was an okay read. The pace is reasonable and overall I found the tale entertaining enough. The story seemed a bit disjointed at times as if the author occasionally forgets a detail mentioned in an earlier chapter, and the romantic aspect of the plot seemed convenient rather than plausible.
This story mainly concerns the trials and tribulations of members of a Navy Seal unit. However, they are faced with several betrayals during battles and in civilian life. The action packed story of revenge is fascinating.
I really love 💘Military romance novels. The characters are wonderful. There is always suspense, drama, and danger in these kind of stories. Love 💘 them.
I enjoyed this story and the way the author kept the action moving throughout the book. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys an action packed story, as this one was.
Did not enjoy this book or style of writing, conversation between characters bordered on childish and I would have thought inappropriate, story was good but after reading one too many stupid co menus I put it down, when I start a boom il like to finish it, but quite frankly it felt like I was studying for an exam I dint want to do, became not enjoyable and I read because it's enjoyable disappointed.
Enjoyed this book immensely. Wish it had more character d evelopment, though. The soldier's are always of interest to me as I am the daughter, the wife and the mother of Military Veterans. These are the stories I like to read the most. Many thanks, Eric Meyer, Sincerely, Amarillo Turtle
This was great adventure story! I liked the wonderful characters, both the bad ones and the Good ones! The plot has a very ADVENTUROUS and exciting storyline! A very Good read. Santa Mike
