What if you could tell, just by looking at others, how they tend to think, feel, and behave? What if your partner’s face revealed the best way to resolve any conflicts between you? And what if you could discover in your own face the wisdom that you need in order to be the best you you can be?
Based on the same ancient foundation as acupuncture and Chinese medicine, face reading has been in the “research and development” phase for over 3,000 years. When translated to make it meaningful for our Western lives, it’s a powerful source of wisdom that we can all access. Chinese face reading shows you how to live your life in alignment with your own natural flow, find the life path that gives you joy, attract relationships that nurture you, and most of all, enable you to feel compassion for yourself and others. This book will forever change how you see yourself . . . and all the people in your life!
Jean Haner is an internationally recognized teacher and consultant, and author of the book The Wisdom Of Your Face: Change Your Life with Chinese Face Reading! and the upcoming The Wisdom of Your Childs Face (both published by Hay House). Jean teaches these powerful techniques to read peoples inner nature; she places an emphasis on compassionate and affirming ways for people to live in alignment with their own true selves. "
What's in a face you say? Perhaps plenty. Looking at the features of someones face could tell you lots about them. Are they nice?kind? mean? dependent? or Independent? THe Chinese used to look at the face the way gypsies used to look at your hand in order to tell what your futre and fortune would be like. Jean Haner, Feng Shui specialist, married into a chinese family and learned this stuff. Obviously she cleaned it up to make it more in tune with the times and more realistic. In other words a lot of the superstitions were thrown out.
THis book was basically written so you could look at your face and tell exactly who you are. You can also look at the face of other people and tell what they are like. A bit of modern wisdom is thrown in where in the author tells people to compare faces to the same racial types to get an accurate reading. She also tells us that we are all different and approach things rather differently, that is cool seeing that all of us are different. We must be true to ourselves and allow others to be true to themselves.
Now I cannot go to deeply into details but I can cover a few basics and if this seems like a book you would like then by all means check it out from the library or buy it. First off Chinese philosophy or medicine is based on 5 elements. Those elements are water, wood, fire, earth and metal. We all have a bit of each in us at least. Some of us are strong in a few and weak in others. Most of us will fit into a certain type though.
Water personalities tend to be more dreamy and enjoy their sleep . Water hangs around in the caverns below Earth and it flows in the seas and river. It is a soft hidden power. People like this often like to sleep late and enjoy theirr dreams and tend to be rather creative. To read water features you would look at the Ears, hairline, forehead, under eye area, philtum and chin.
Wood personalities are the doer. They get up on time and are always actice on some project or other. They tend to be rather industrious. To read someone's wood features you would look at the eyebrows, browbone, temples, jaw and stature.
FIre people are those who lie to be in the limelight and have very showy personalities. They tend to be rather excitable and even bubbly in terms of personality. To read someones fire features you would look at their eyes, types of hair and tips of features.
Your Earth folks tend to be very nurturing and friendly. They are quick with hugs and if you visit their house they will have some milk and cookies for you. They tend to be very helpful and tend to want to do good. To read someones earth features you would look at their mouth, upper eyelids, bridge of nose, area above the upper lip, lower cheeks near the mouth.
Metal folks tennd to be the ones who refine things. They also like to stay to themselves and need their personal space and boundaries. To read someones metal you would look at their nose, cheeks, Fa Lin ines, eyelids and upper brow plus any moles.
THE face be divided into two or three different zones. THe right zone is where we place or public persona, the left side our hidden parts. If you do the three zones then recall that the top part is our analytical zone, the middle zone is our practical zone and the bottom is our emotive zone.
I found the book to be quite entertaining and author quite knowledgeable. I found out a bit about myself and will find such information useful in dealing with other peoople. Because if you want to help or work with others yu have to be able to read them.
As another reviewer states, this is the kind of book that you would have to reread many times . . . or memorize. I have even used a mirror to reference my own face judging by the signs. However, to make it useful in analyzing anyone else's face. I would have to carry the book around with me (or, in my case, the Kindle). I have started making notes, but that requires time that I usually devote to my own writing or promoting.
One thing that I found confusing is the reference to water, wood, etc. I am supposedly a wood monkey -- so does that mean I only reference the pages under wood, even though some of the same principles for water might apply. If, for example, eyes are mentioned and shown under one sign -- say fire -- does that mean that those explanations do not apply for wood? Can a wood person find a description or reference to his/her eyes are only listed under fire?
I have tried it out on some people regarding their ears. Although I have not done this enough to make it a sure thing, the limited results have provided a positive answer.
Read it and see how it works for you. It is well-written and easy to digest. Whether or not you find it useful without a photographic memory . . . that is another issue.
I may not believe everything in the book is 100% accurate but I still find chinese face reading a very interesting topic . In fact, many things said in the book can be surprisingly accurate.
I recommend this book to readers that are curious, open minded, and are genuinely interested in viewing and understanding people from a different perspective.
For obvious reasons, I'm not a big fan of phrenology. However, I am a huge fan of TCM and try to learn as much as I can about it. So when I learned about Chinese face reading and Jean Haner, I had to read her book. This book focuses mostly on face reading's relation to the 5 elements. I was very surprised to learn that my face shows I have a lot of fire element – I had thought I was mostly water with a bit of earth based on Dondi Eden's test (of Eden Energy Medicine). The book also helped me better understand why I'm all over the place with projects and jobs and helped me better understand how to work with my nature instead of fighting against it. I still *think* I have a lot of water element, and when she said it's best if water elements work for themselves or have a really flexible job, I felt very seen and it validated my decision to become an entrepreneur.
However, the more detailed aspects of reading faces was pretty confusing to me. I thought I understood it until she showed examples and I was way off in my own assessment. I'm also now feeling pretty paranoid about what "big changes" are going to happen when I'm 40 because I have a lot of indents and lines on my third eye (in between the eyebrows), which is where the age of 40 is shown...also 60s because I have a mole and a scar on my chin, where the 60s decade is shown..
Also very intrigued by "moneybags" and other features that indicate wealth, etc. I'm also now looking at all the billionaires giant ears that stick out. :)
The book also did make me feel grateful for any lines, scars and texture on my face; it made me feel like it's a map of my life and more thankful for all those signs of aging that our culture deplores. All in all, just like any other personality categorization systems, it's something fun to learn and keep in mind and help us understand each others' differences without taking TOO seriously.
Very interesting concept and explanations of the different beliefs. It should be noted that I know face reading can vary greatly depending on the cultural context and this is Chinese face reading practices (as noted in the title).
I wish there was more comparison with other cultures and their approaches to face reading, also the overall tone of the book is more anecdotal and really seems to rely on very basic rules and finding the correct "vibe/mood" to intuitively read a face.
I enjoyed the parts of how facial expressions and traits could come across to other people, but by nature of face reading, the book doesn't really teach you much rather than just tell you and give you insight on the author's experience into the practice.
a truly great writer (and often a mark of a person with great wisdom) possesses a mastery of language that unfolds in layers revealing new dimensions of understanding with each reflection. offering sustenance to the idle mind, provoking contemplation in moments of silence. one of those books that teaches you way beyond the subject matter and leaves an enduring imprint on the reader's mind
It's a very good starting book to explore your inner spirit, history and people around you either whom you care about or have to deal with them in your environment.
Feel confusing somehow between different types, of course needs a lot of practice to master it.
I found this book utterly fascinating! There is so much to be gained by understanding the facial features and the markings of the face over time. I have a whole new appreciation for my own face now. I enjoyed learning about this so much I’d like to study it more.
I don't know how much of this can be taken for real but while I read it I learned a few things about myself that I had never considered. I also noticed things about others that seemed to be true according to their faces. It was a lot of fun in any case.
This book explains things in a clear and understandable way to anyone who is interested in basic reading of the face through the 5 elements of the universe (metal, water, wood, fire, and earth). There are illustrations and detailed notes as well.
