This was a dub-con book for beginners to the genre ... it is a prime example of lack of research IMO ... to make this book credible, the author needs to research -
1. The psychology of Stockholm Syndrome
2. Deprivation used as a torture device (know that it takes more than 4 hours to subjugate a military prisoner with deprivation.)
3. BDSM and the psychology of pain/pleasure response.
4. The anatomy of the male body and the mechanics of reaching an orgasm with a cock ring insitu.
As I said, if you're just dipping your toes into the dub-con genre, this book is so sugar kink that you'll avoid all triggers and discomfort altogether ... if you prefer you're dub-con to leave you sweating and quaking with fear and sleeping with a chair under the door handle and all the lights on, then don't bother reading this one.
If you like your dubcon so fluffy it's impossible to see the slick, pink, dubcon skin, this might be the book for you. It was pretty well written (typos and missing words aside). For a fairly specific readership (not me, clearly) this might do well.
A quick, high-heat read that dives straight into the tension between Tristen and the Dark King Mathias. The dynamic between them is charged—equal parts dangerous and alluring—making the story pulse with erotic energy. The SMBD undertones are woven in with just enough bite to keep it entertaining without losing its pace.
Tristen’s vulnerability and Mathias’s commanding presence create a compelling push-pull that drives the narrative forward. For readers who enjoy short, intense encounters with a dark edge, this opening to the series delivers exactly that: fast, erotic, and satisfying.
I really enjoyed this first episode. It was going well, and Tristan didn't immediately submit to the Dark King's domination. But, I wish that Tristan had been instructed to refer to the Dark King as his master from the beginning, because that would have made the rather sudden transition in his thinking at the end become more believable.
How did he seem to forget that he needed to escape and get back to his group, in just TWO DAYS?! And I will NEVER understand how being physically tortured could be considered erotic or arousing. Just, no, to all of this. And it's to be continued, so there's that.
I'm not a huge romance fan and after being told "You must read Fifty-Shades of Grey cuz it's the bestest book EVAR!!!!" by a bunch of my friends, I was a little skeptical going into this book. I hated the Fifty Shades trilogy (that's a rant for another day) but this book was actually not that bad. The story is interesting, the man-on-man stuff was hot! It reads a lot like a first draft though. The story could really do with a lot more fleshing out.
My main gripes with this story are more technical I guess. There were several typos (spell check please!) and several times there were dropped words. I assume those are from just typing too fast? We've all done it at one time or another and though it was kind of annoying, it wasn't bad enough or often enough to detract from the story.
The thing that did really get to me and almost make me put the book down though was overuse of the character's name, Tristan, and overuse of the 'The Dark King'. Yeah, it's their names and it helps to define who is doing what but there's a problem when it seems like ever other word is one of the character's names. Get a thesaurus or use the internet or something but PLEASE learn to use something other than just the character's name! His, him, he, they, them are all great and do the same thing to describe the people. The overuse of the character's names was so bad it pulled me out of the story multiple times and I caught myself automatically filling in better ways that it could have been written so as not to contribute to the constant interrupting of my trying to read an otherwise enjoyable story.
All in all it was good story but could have done with some more plot development and fleshing out of the characters. A solid 2 stars. :)
Plainly written but exciting tale. Sadistic dark king tortures a rebel over months, awakening his subby sexual desires. Prisoner is rescued and unleashes his desires on his best friend/prince. Happy ending.
Tristan is the right hand man to Prince Dareon. When he is captured by the enemy, most notably the Dark King, Tristan expects to be tortured for information. But what the Dark King wants isn't necessarily information. He wants Tristan bound and at his mercy.
What starts as non-consensual quickly turns into Tristan embracing the BDSM lifestyle and wanting the Dark King in every way imaginable and that includes degradation and humiliation.
Good story if you are okay with pretty intense BDSM and non-con situations.
Ok I hate books that make the victim fall in love with their capture so easily. I mean really no fighting no trying to get away. This book goes from capture to Stockholm pet in 0 to 60.
A MAN MAY BE IMPRISONED AND CHAINED AND DOES THAT MAKE HIM THE SLAVE OR DOES THE MAN WHO HAS HIS HEART IN CHAINS BECOME THE SLAVE EVEN THOUGH HE IS KNOWN TO ALL AS KING??? READ THE BOOK AND FIND OUT.... SUSPENSE GALORE
