Monkey Style Kung Fu Monkey style kung fu. It is perhaps, the rarest and most secretive style of Chinese kung fu. Though many may be familiar with this art form, they tend to share a common misconception; believing that there is only one Mon- key kung fu style when in fact, there are three. One of them is thousands of years old and another is only a mere 100 years old. They Shaolin Monkey Wu Shu Monkey Tai Shing Pek Kwar Monkey Master Michael Matsuda teaches and demonstrates the ancient art for and defines its history in this one of a kind book on Monkey Kung Fu
This book is very readable and presents a great introduction into the history and traditions of the Tai Shing Pek Kwar Monkey Kung Fu system. The author gives his story, history of the Monkey Kung Fu style (as well as Tai Shing and Pek Kwar styles in their respect), the forms in the system, Chi cultivation, and other information. Grand Master Matsuda dispels the rumors of extreme flexibility, differentiates the Shaolin Monkey, Wu Shu monkey, and Tai Shing Pek Kwar Monkey, and knowledge on the weapons found in the monkey style. He states up front that it is a very, very difficult art and only 1 out of 10 students will continue in learning the Monkey Kung Fu system. This is not an instructional book but history and tradition as the title states. The author has also created a series of DVDs, starting with the fundamentals and then going in-depth into the forms. A very informative book that has deepened my interest in this unique and rare form of Chinese kung fu. As a practitioner of Jow Gar Kung Fu, I respect and appreciate the author’s intent of sharing his wealth of knowledge for all. Thanks for reading.
