Stripped of magic and forced into exile by his friendship with one of the fae, Randall Miller sets out to make his fortune by trading with the elves and dwarves of Tallia. But the elves turn out to be more dangerous than he bargained for, seeking to rip open the veil between Tallia and Llandra and unleash swarming hordes of unspeakable horrors. Even worse, Berry seems to be on their side! Determined to stop them, Randall races against time to find the one artifact that can save Tallia, or destroy it.
Gregory Mahan (1969-) was born in Richardson, Texas, but spent the majority of his life in and around the greater Houston area. Gregory fell in love with the works of Andre Norton at a very young age, and soon became a voracious reader of science fiction and fantasy works. He began crafting stories for his friends and family at the age of 8 when he asked for (and received!) a typewriter as a Christmas gift. A Touch of Magic is Gregory's first published full-length novel.
In addition to writing, he enjoys Celtic music, and has played the Irish penny whistle and low whistle since 1995. His first band, Echoes of Ireland, was featured on KPFT radio's Irish Aires program, as well as being one of the bands chosen to play for Charles Sheehan, Consul General of Northern Ireland on his visit to Houston in 2003. Gregory maintains one of the oldest and largest Irish music repositories on the internet, The Wandering Whistler Music Archives, and published his first songbook, Fifty Great Celtic Jigs, in 2002. In 2003, he joined the band Paddy Gone Wild, and was prominently featured on their CD, The Greatest Hits, released in 2008.
Gregory currently lives in Northern Virginia with his family.
This second story by Gregory Mahan was, in my opinion, somewhat better plotted that his first story. However, it did have a number of basic grammatical mistakes.
This story doesn't really start up where the last story left off. Randall has learned to communicate with his imp friend, who he calls Berry, and has aged. He spends some time at home, before going off to earn his fortune. He ends up in a battle to save the world from a threat from Llandra and is able to use his magical powers to stop the threat, somewhat late in the process...
Believing in one's self is not a game but a truth. Believing is the confidence of doing. But there is a down side also that will make you hesitate this storyline shows this good read
Randall just can't catch a break! His ability to use magic is burned out; maybe permanently. He doesn't fit in at home anymore, and his Master is most likely dead. What's an apprentice to do? He needs to come up with a new career, and becoming a caravan trader should work just fine. There just happens to be an opening for trading with the elves! Like everything else in Randall's life, it doesn't go quite as planned. Now he has a new companion, lost an old one, and the elves are hunting him to stop him; permanently, before he can mess up their big plans! Fortunately, things are about to take a turn for the better for Randall and company. The bad guys had better watch out, cause Randell is back, and it's, "No more Mr. nice guy!"
I liked this book even better than the first one, and I really did like the first one! I'm hoping for a little more character driven story, and maybe a little less fighting and fleeing in the next book. Even so, I know it will be good!
I enjoyed the first book so was glad to see a second. Started off a little slow but really got going. It made wish the next book was already out so I could get right too it. Yes I am looking forward to next book and will get when it comes out. Well written, good charcters, well done plot. Worth time and cost to read. I read the last 2/3 pretty quick just because could not put it down.
