I wanted to read my favorite childhood books since I’m home for Easter, and I had to include something from the Rainbow Magic series. Molly the Goldfish Fairy did not disappoint- it was exactly how I remembered it being, so magical and sweet, and while I probably won’t read another 60-page fairy book for a long time, I’m so glad I went back to this world for the <10 minutes it took me to read this 😂
Jack Frost wants a pet but in Fairyland the pets are all sentient and choose their owners themselves. Jack Frost steals all the pets from the Pet Fairies; not only are the fairies sad but they cant do their job protecting lost and homeless pets on Earth. Fortunately, the pets escape to the village of Wetherbury where Kirsty lives and Rachel is staying for one week of holiday. The series ventures to some local areas (like the park and neighbours) and also to Strawberry Farm, the stables, the Spring Show etc.
There are seven Pet Keeper fairies and they are: Katie the Kitten Fairy, Bella the Bunny Fairy, Georgia the Guinea Pig Fairy, Lauren the Puppy Fairy, Harriet the Hamster Fairy, Molly the Goldfish Fairy and Penny the Pony Fairy.
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
I do like that the Molly’s magic pet is a goldfish, as many children don’t have puppies, kittens and hamsters. My first pet was a goldfish and I remember often imagining him to be sparkling with magic.
My review of Molly the goldfish fairy was great because it was short. Also because it was about fairies and goblins. And I like fairies because they are magic. And there were no words that I did not know.
The goblins had stole Molly's magic goldfish. Rachel and Kristy helped her get it back.
The two girls found Molly and soon they found the goblins. The goblins had stole Molly's Goldfish! If you want to Know how they got it back you have to read the book.
When Molly and the girls got her goldfish back the goblins stole a different goldfish instead.
Read the book and find out how they got the goldfish back.
I like this book but not as much as I like other rainbow magic books. Rainbow magic books are the best books in the whole wide world!
Rachel and Kristy are at a barbecue at Mr. and Mrs. Wainwrights' house and Mr. Wainwright has a new fish in his fish pond in the back yard. Rachel and Kristy go over to see it and they find a sixth goldfish but the new on is only the fifth. Rachel and Kristy see sparkles around it so they think it's Molly's goldfish, Flash. Then they find out that all the garden gnomes are goblins hiding in gnome costumes. They have a jarful of water and they try to catch Flash but Rachel and Kristy don't let it happen. At the end, Molly has her goldfish back safely in Fairy Land.
Book six of seven in the "Pet Fairies" series by the group of authors who go by the name Daisy Meadows. It's a fun series, especially for young girls who are starting to read chapter books. Our oldest is addicted!
Jan 2012 update: our youngest is now immersing herself in this series and is reading them very quickly, too. As inane as I thought they were, I love that this series is making readers of our girls. Hooray!
The story is a bit simplistic for an adult, but my kids loved it. My daughter read the French version on her own at school, even though it was a bit above her level. She must have enjoyed it though, because although a capable reader, she does not enjoy reading.
As a child reading herself, it is a pretty good story with simple language and easy for the child to manage on her own.
As a read aloud, it is a bit boring for the adult. There are much better stories to read aloud.
My favourite part was when Molly got her pet goldfish back and Clown got back into the fish pond. The worst part was when the goblins got Clown and tried to trade Clown for Flash. My favourite characters were Rachel and Kirsty because they thought of a way for them to get Clown back into the fish pond. The worst characters were the goblins because they stole Flash.
I'm going a little batty reading all of these books with the same plot, same characters, same, same, same! My daughter says she's done though, so perhaps I won't have to read through the other few dozen! My only really issue with this one is why does the title fairy have to wear a belly shirt?!
