Oh god, sorry. I couldn't take it anymore. I could t finish this. Kennedy is by far the stupidest main character, next to Bella swan, I've ever been forced to read about. Come on, her obsession with Harrison is mental. I love main character that are strong, independent. Even though, I've never really seen how strong Kennedy could be ( she's always appeared weak to me) , at least she was described as being strong, a trained G I Jane , but then her independent characteristics became depend on the boy named Harrison.
The guy is being torn into by zombies and still she obsessed over him, putting her life and her friends life in danger.
Of course, Harrison is strong and some kind of zombie hybrid. He won't get infected, and he can survive just about anything, still she's willing to put her life and the life of those around her, for this guy she'd only just talked to briefly. I mean, yeah they were stuck in their school for like 72 day, but he avoided her, didn't get near her, only shared glance in her direction and yet, he loves her, she loves him, and they live fuckingly ever after. At least I think they do, I didn't go past chapter 4. Please, she's selfish beyond belief and still try's to classify her ex best friend as being shallow when she herself is no better.

There I was, rolling my eyes at the ludicrous position these kids put themselves in by falling in love during a zombie apocalypse, gushing like a middle schooler over lines like

"You feel like freedom to me, Kennedy...I grew up thinking I wasn't good enough, believing that I was damaged. But when I touch you, something inside me opens and the feelings I normally keep out come in..."

and then BAM. WHAT AN ENDING. I DIDN'T SEE IT COMING FOLKS, A REALLY DIDN'T.

(note, I was up all last night reading this book like a drug addict, so stay with me despite my scatter brained review)

It's been months since the outbreak, and while somethings have changed, others remain the same. Kennedy and Harrison are drunk in love (wuddup song reference!) and I'd be a horrid liar if I said I didn't love it. Harrison is a poet and so everything he says about Kennedy is so sweet, and Kennedy basically goes "ditto". But for what Kennedy lacks in words, she makes up for in action. She is constantly defending him, whether against zombies, survivors, or himself. Funny enough, they have switched traditional roles. Yes, Harrison is protective, but he is very expressive with his emotions where Kennedy's thinking in her head "i feel the same way. Conceal, only feel."(i did it again! Just call me butter, i'm on a roll!). Like wise, she's always protecting him, and doesn't trust anyone else with that role, which brings me to the big is-this-a-strong-female-character question. I don't address this question unless I can say yes. A strong female character is not that stereotypical chick who acts/looks like a man and is therefore stronger. SFC are female characters who don't need a hero. To quote this novel, they can "be their own hero". SFC feel and cry and emote but they don't curl up in their tower and wait for the prince. They get up, say "this is where I am, who I am, and how am I going to move forward." Kennedy is all of that and I'm very proud of her.
Another thing that stayed the same was team dynamic, which was nice. Sometimes characters go way out of their personality because it's a sequel, but that didn't happen here. The writing was well done. The plot was easy to follow.

Now for changes. Beverly. I hated her in the first novel, and she grew on me in this one. She's still snarky, she's still weird, and according to Harrison, she smells like chemicals, but we see her really grow in this novel. She is a team player now, she takes on a protegeé and is forced to do the right thing and end it when she is bitten, she learns to put others second instead of fourth(behind Me, Myself, and I).She grows. She's still a (insert adjective of your choice) but she grows to be bearable.
The zombies have also changed and--HOLD ON, LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT WORD RIGHT THERE. You cannot tell me people would not automatically call people with injuries and tattered clothing who only moan and groan and try to eat the living, healthy ones anything other than zombies. But we have like twelve thousand names for them. Infected, Skin Eaters, The Sick. What is this, the Walking Dead? What is so scary about the word "zombie" that we can't say it reference to the zombies?
Now, the ZOMBIES, for that is what they are, aren't all they seem and our last few chapters tell us that. I don't want to spoil it; let's just say this virus is complex and there is a cure to bring these people back.

Hidden among the zombie pseudonyms and romantic entanglements, we find a powerful little message that I love, and will let speak for itself:

BE YOUR OWN HERO.

4 stars because I adored it but the relationship took a Taylor Swift in the middle. Like but we, are NEVER EVER EVER, getting back together but whoopsie I miss you I lied let's sleep together. Oh NO! This isn't safe so we, are NEVER EVER EVER, getting back together. :(

I have to preface this review by telling you that this is book two in the Apocalypse Chronicles and I'm a fan of Laury Falter. I didn't love this book. I know, I just didn't and I actually feel genuinely bad about it. I will also admit I'm not a huge fan of zombie books anyways but because I had read the first one and I'm a fan of Laury, and I wanted to know what happened to Kennedy and Harrison.. I found this one on Amazon and thought now is as good a time as any to read it.

And then I was kind of disappointed. Honestly, I think the main problem with the book for me is that I just don't like zombies and I have a hard time getting into books centered around them, so that's obviously my own fault. If you are a fan of zombies, specifically in a YA novel, you are going to love book one and two of this. You will, so just ignore me because I'm clearly not the judge for this.

But this is book two, so the virus has already gotten out and most of the country is now The Infected, sans this small little group of Harrison, Kennedy, Mei, Doc, and Beverly. There's more non-Infected out there, but this is the group of teenagers we're following. We know from book one that Harrison also is infected but he's basically a bizarre science experiment and isn't like the droves of Infected they are encountering. Kennedy is human but she's in love with Harrison and he loves her, and they are like a way mature teenage couple essentially leading the other three towards finding a scientist who can help them with finding the cure with the knowledge they have.

My other problems with this book is Harrison and Kennedy's relationship. I mean, I get that they are teenagers who are basically out to save the world so you already have some built in dramatics, but come on. Some of their relationship is definitely eye roll worthy. Secondly, this felt so much like that movie Warm Bodies. Truly. Especially once the zombies kind of change and we find there is a cure... blah blah blah.. I can't ruin it for you but it reminded me of the movie the entire time. I can only give this book 2 stars because it was just OK. I was kind of let down, but I still love you, Laury. Keep writing.

I definitely saw this shit coming. Gah makes me wonder why I even started it to begin with. As if having to deal with the first bit wasn't bad enough, i went out and got this thinking the author would redeem herself. Clearly I was wrong......

Even the sex scene wasn't worth the eight trillion page wait we had to suffer through to get there . And what was that ending?? Really?? I was hoping for another mutie book like......erm...that one that had the pregnant woman whose unborn baby had super mutie zombie powers from his mutie dad (I can never remember these things...and I don't now why I've read so many zombie apocalypse books to begin with )

My eyes desperately want me to bleach them out for the trauma I just put them through....better yet here's a picture of a vagina-popping-a-baby cake to make it all better

This story was almost added to my dnf.... Kennedy annoys my soul. How do you have premonitions and yet still don't make smarter decisions. It's literally a guidebook of what not to do....took more than half the second book for them to figure out they follow Harrison.... why I figured it out in the first. Also Harrison was just as annoying. His constant imma become a zombie with all evidence to the contrary.... at this point the only ones I like are Mei and doc.

Kennedy was annoying & a danger to all

Kennedy, the FMC, was TSTL, yet live she did. And, I'm all the more sad for it. She was there weakest link. The story was o.k. I just wish they'd made Kennedy more than 2 dimensional. She was like a stalker: must find Harrison (the MMC), no matter who she endangered.

I completely forgot her weird psychic powers that never get explained before they did that. wow so much better zombie books and specifically so many better zombie books following students trapped at their school.

High school version of Walking Dead – meets Resident Evil……but not as good. I picked up this book because I REALLY liked Laury Faulter’s other two series – the Guardian and Residue series (which are nothing like zombies by the way) AND I like the Walking dead and apocalypse type stories, so I thought I would give it a try. Although the Haven books were entertaining, I did not think they were anything special and were not as enjoyable as her other series. I felt like there was such a big lead up to secrets, some of which never exactly worked themselves out. The plot line was ok, but never seemed to go anywhere other than try not to get eaten by the zombies, learn to kill the zombies….and maybe we can find a cure – the things that every other zombie movie or tv series is about. Just basic stuff where I always felt like I was one step ahead of the characters in the book….where I like to be kept guessing and be surprised by what happens next. The characters and the romance aspect of the books were a little too shallow/ more two-dimensional for me…..where as I wanted more depth and it was not there. Sad to say, this is not a recommend for me….it was ok, and slow at times….not the ninja-killin’ zombie drama I would have liked to see. I would still read this author in the future…maybe this is just not her genre?

I debated for a long time whether to give this book a 3 or 4 star rating, because it just didn't live up to the standard I held for it (which wasn't very high to begin with). I just became so annoyed with Kennedy and Harrison's relationship, it was going nowhere. I kept yelling at them to kiss, or do something, but nope, they did the opposite and ignored each other for days. Besides the fact that this book went nowhere romantically for me, it did have its good moments. There was some action, some violence, some suspense. But it also had it's bad moments: annoying teenage couples, Harrison so ready to sacrifice himself even though he's the cure for the entire world, Beverly being annoying as usual. Overall, the ending made up for some of the annoying parts, and it truly was a pretty decent zombie/romance story for young-adults.
Oh and by the way, is it just the ebook version where nearly every page is an entire paragraph, and each chapter was nearly 25-30 pages long? Maybe it was just me, but I found that quite annoying. Oh well, still worth reading it.

Why did I rate this 2 stars? Because of the ending! I mean, seriously?? I know this is paranormal (obviously), but I just don't foresee that ever happening....ever! If I were "infected" I would want my husband to shoot me or kill me or whatever. I wouldn't want to survive any longer. I would admire my husband for staying with me and trying to find a cure, but there's no reason to risk everyone else's safety just to keep me with him at all times. Selfish!!! On another note, I don't think that the "infected" are conscious inside. That's just another level of wrong too. That would mean that whenever people would kill them, it's almost murder in a sense.

I do like how Harrison stuck by her side through everything, but they fell in love kind of fast don't you think?

Also, there is no sense of time in this book. I know they're running for their lives, but it seems as if time passes too quickly in my opinion.

Overall, I did like the series, but I was expecting something entirely different from this book than what was given.

And this Zombie series comes to an end....I loved the first book in this series because of it's richly developed characters and there was more to love from them in the second and final installment. Kennedy and Harrison continued to impress and enthrall and I didn't think about slapping Beverly once... Mei and Doc just got smarter and cuter and even some of the more minor characters added a few necessary quarks to the plot.
I think the ending was fitting and well planned, though some points do seem a little rushed, I feel like that kept the story from ever dragging on or slowing down to the point of boredom...though I will say I wish Kennedy had done a better job using the premonition nightmares to her advantage because she sort of just let the last one happen and it made it seem like the whole dream thing was just filler...but what are you going to do about that really I mean the plot calls for some zombie bites right....I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a good zombie YA story its definitely worth checking out.

Wow. Just wow. This is one of many of Laury Falter's books that I have read, and while I didn't n=enjoy it quite as much as the Guardian Trilogy or Residue series, I did really like these books. I personally have never read a zombie apocalypse book before, so this was a new experience.
This is a genre I might have to investigate further. I picked up this book because I am a huge fan of Falter and the Walking Dead, so i figured, why not? The story was really interesting and the development of the supporting characters was really awesome, especially Beverly. I really loved [spoiler] the brief time that Kennedy was an Infected. This is a perspective we don't really ever get to see (at least, not in the Walking Dead) so it was cool to see Kennedy's thoughts as she had no control over her zombie-fied self.

I really enjoyed this book, as well as all of Falter's other novels.

This was a fun, romantic and action packed read!!! I will fall asleep to the sounds of zombies and gunfire!
I fell in love with the characters, especially Beverly. Tremendous character growth, albeit all the snarky comments (which in this book made me laugh, in contrast to the previous book), and her ass-kicking ways really made me want to know more about her. Especially what Kennedy says in the last few paragraphs about Beverly.
I'd love a book about Beverly after the events of Resurrection. Maybe with a male lead who was kind of quiet and didn't put up with all her bullshit, who could see the good in her and who would make her grow as a person and as a leader. I would absolutely adore that. Especially if he's hot (and not all self-sacrificing like Harrison).

I was so happy with this book I couldn't put it down. What a fitting end to a great book. Harrison was a great character and sometimes I felt so sorry for the burden he carried . I was so blown away when he was telling the little girl stuck in the tree to say I am my own hero ..... words to live by. Great read and im sad that this was the end . Only thing I have to say that may be considered negative is I didnt like Harrison getting bit so many times I understand the author was trying to prove a point but come on. All in all great read

Kennedy, Harrison, and the others have now become a team of flesh-eater fighters! They are on a mission to find the cure but the one person who could help them has become a flesh-eater herself. They meet some survivors that they thought did not exist and along with protecting them, they are out to find someone who can still help to develop a cure.

This was an amazing conclusion to this two-book series. Again, my great appreciation goes to this author! Laury, you are an excellent talent and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

This is interesting and it has a great ending. Yes, the world is different and yes the characters are majorly out of their league however they grew from that. I was impressed with the story and how it developed. I admired the characters and thought the author did a wonderful job. I believe there is different ways to change a story and this is one of those times and I was amazed especially with this type of genre.

I read both books in the series and I hope that there will be a third. I really loved reading how the main characters developed and became a team in a world where death and destruction was the norm. Their quest for a cure was paramount but they also helped and gathered other survivors. During this apocalypse dealing with death and destruction, they never lost their humanity, which is what will be needed to rebuild society.

I didn't realize that this would be the end in this series but it was wrapped up and nicely done. I've found that zombie series' tend to go on and on sometimes and its just monotonous after some time. Not so with this series due to constant progress being made at a great rate.
I have yet to read a bad or unenjoyable book by Laury Falter and in fact they only get better.

This pains me because I am a huge Guardian series fan and love Laury.....but I'm also an avid Walking Dead fan and you just can't compete in their zombie apocalypse world. :( Still a quick, easy read....I'm definitely not the target audience at this point. This is closer to 2 stars for me, but I just can't do that here......

I actually want to mark the book 3.5 stars. It was good but got tired of Harrison getting bit all the time. Also wanted a little more romance with all the characters. Felt there was something missing. The ending was awesome and did not expect that. Overall it was a good series.

What a happy ending

What a happy ending

Even though there were some casualties, this story had a rather happy ending. I wish there was a part three to see where these five characters would go in their lives.
