Ellie and Logan's love story begins one hot August night…

My mom betrayed me in the worst way possible. I can't forgive her, but I can outwit her. I'm going to unravel the family secret she's been keeping from me my whole life. So I'm going to college across the state from her, to the place that has the answers. I hope. But I have to be careful or I'll blow everything. I can't tell anyone what I'm doing.

I didn't mean to fall in love. I can't afford to give my heart away or open up to anyone, least of all charming, rich, former bad boy baseball star Logan Walker. But he looked so adorable sitting there nursing a black eye the night I met him at my very first campus event. The way he held my hand made me flush in the suffocating heat of August and feel really beautiful for the first time in so long I can't remember. My scar didn't even hurt.

But Logan's moods are mercurial. He's keeping secrets of his own that are too dark to share, even with me. We agree to be just friends. But our hearts and bodies have minds of their own. Before I know it, I'm in too deep with him and the answer to the family secret I came to campus to find may be the thing that tears us apart.

When I decided to give this book a chance I didn’t know a lot about it as I’ve never read anything by this author and blurb doesn’t give much away. So you can imagine that I was unearthly happy when Reckless Longing was extremely satisfying and interesting read that keep me on my toes to the last page. I can’t wait to dive into sequel and I hope I won’t have to wait long for it.

image

his very pleasurable story follows Ellie. She’s a nineteen year old girl who just dumped her cheating boyfriend and for the first time in her life she has told her mother to fuck off. Ellie has never had a great relationship with her mother, who always thought Ellie is unnecessary competition for her. Ellie’s mother is man crazed. And she has never loved her enough to be there for her. Ellie was always not good or pretty enough to be her daughter. So when Ellie’s mother does horrible thing that literally breaks Ellie heart, she decides to leave her mother and find her biological father who’s IT in some college a cross country. Ellie packs her things and transfers there to meet the her father, the man she has never seen or talked too. Thanks for her old prof. Ellie gets a job in IT college section, where she’ll be working for her father. This gives her great opportunity to see her father and finally find answers to her questions. What kind of man is her father? Does he have a family? Wife? Children? Would he love her if he knew about her?

Of course, being this a romance story, Ellie meets a boy. Another college student who supports her and helds her hand while she pierces her bellybutton. Well, Ellie was shocked when a strange with black eye wanted to help her with getting a piercing she wanted but was to afraid of doing it alone.

Logan is charismatic, sexy and amusing, but he is also incredibly broken. He has a dark secret no one’s know about. Secret that makes him push Ellie away. No matter how much he wants her to be his, he has to stop before they will be hurt.

I loved this story! It was spectacular and amusing as well as shocking! I didn’t expect that plot will go this way. And finding out what makes Logan reclusive toward Ellie was extremely fascinating.

The best in this book was the fact that every part of this story is a puzzle that at the end just finds it place and everything starts to finally make sense. I love figuring out things, especially when even my Sherlock mind can’t do it. It gives me thrill to not know what’s going on, why is this happening or why something so normal like mean chemistry profesor has an important place in plot. And when finally everything was solved I was speechless. I was wowed! Nothing is rushed, every little thing has it’s own time and place, and everything in the plot is well explored, which made Reckless Longing fantastic read.

Another thing I loved was characters. Every one of them was realistic and unique in it’s own way. I adored Ellie, who’s a great normal girl who wants to be loved and find her place. My heart ached for her more than few times and I absolutely fell in love with Logan.
Gina Robinson has a nice style of writing, that isn’t overwhelming or shallow. It’s easy and effortless and extremely enjoyable.

Overall, Reckless Longing was great! I had a blast and I can’t wait to read more of the story, because it doesn’t end in the first book. At the end we have lot of answers but there are still questions and mysteries that need to be unraveled. Ellie and Logan relationship’s fresh, and she stil needs to find closure with her parents. And I can’t freaking wait to read next installment in Reckless Series.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. From the Synopsis I thought it sounded Okay..
But the Synopsis hardly covers anything!

This is the story of Ellie and Logan.
Ellie has just dumped her cheating boyfriend and finally stepped away from her mother.
Her Mother and her have never had the best relationship. Ellie's Mother never talks about her real Dad. Ellie's Mother is man crazy and therefore thinks everyone is competition, even Ellie. So in her eyes Ellie is not pretty enough, skinny enough or perfect enough.

When her Mother does something horrible Ellie has had enough and basically says a big F you! and moves away to College across the country and cuts all communication with her Mum.

What her Mother doesn't know is that Ellie has picked the school because her Biological Dad works there. Her Mother doesn't know that Ellie knows who he is.

Ellie has managed to get a job in the IT department where her Father is going to be her Boss. She doesn't want to say "hey you banged my Mum 19 yrs ago and I'm the result." She wants to get to know him first.

On the first day of College she meets a guy though, Logan. In a very different circumstance than the normal “eyes meet across a room at a party scenario in most NA books) he ends up hanging out with her most of the night.
Once it is all done though she leaves him, he doesn't know her last name.
He tried to find her though, she just doesn't want to be found.

It just so happens that Logan works with her Dad, they are actually very close.
So they do meet again, and the chemistry is off the charts!
However Logan may be sexy, cocky, charismatic and a player, he is not ready for something serious. Neither is Ellie.
So they agree to be friends.
She starts to want more, but can't get past his walls... He admits he does as well but he is hot and cold and has worse mood swings than a girl.

All through this story there is constant reference to a horrendously mean chemistry teacher, to her Dad her ex-boyfriend her Mother and you don't really know where any of it is going...
Of course you try and guess but once it all comes out you're just left open mouthed like WTH Just happened!!
I DIDN'T SEE THE MASSIVE TWIST COMING!

I mean I knew it was something... Just not THAT!!

AND THEN...

we are left with a half happy for now...
I don't know how else to describe it..
Things with Ellie and Logan are perfect but other things need MORE... I was quite shocked at the abrupt stop...
Until I got on here and realized there was going to be a number 2 so I was happy with that now.

So yeah all in all... Not at all what I was expecting but I ended up loving it!
Logan is amazing and you will fall fast for him!
and Ellie just wants to find her place in the world. Just to be first once....

Will definately be reading the second book!

FIVE RECKLESS STARS!!!!

What an amazingly, clean, realistically wonderful read!

I am so happy I stumbled across this!

I dived into this book recklessly without shame, and I am honestly glad that I did. From the moment I started this, I couldn't pull myself away from it. Even when I was constantly interrupted, my thoughts always drifted back to this lovely book.

The chance of meeting was the spark of something real. I love Ellie from the start, and Logan just had the hypnotic personality that made you love him no matter what.

With the mission Ellie was on, she didn't need any distractions. And Logan was the biggest one yet. Even when she tried avoiding him, faith always made sure to piss on her determination :D The more she spent time with Logan, the more she fell for him. Every action in this book bleeds recklessness and it was ironically fun. I love when the name of the book clicks in the story line!

The troubles Ellie went through were real. The way the author wrote about it made me feel for her - she had control over my emotions. If the author wanted me to feel sad, then happy on the next page - she made it happen! Dealing with the betrayal of her mom, the lack of confidence she had, all because of her mom? I loved that the line didn't blur when it came to genuine obliviousness and cockiness. When Ellie said she didn't feel attractive, yet still described herself - which sounded damn attractive - she didn't come off as snobby and I connected more to that little bit.

When Ellie slipped up the night of Halloween and she was confronted by her boss? It was real and I had such a rush. I was frantic and scared for her!! She held her own! There are still some unanswered questions which I have strong theories for (Like why Lyssa resembles Melissa?) and I can honestly say, that if my theories are correct? This shit is about to get all kinds of awesome!!

And Logan?

I LOVE YOU!!!!

Gosh. He is freakin beautiful - both inside and out. The ending was a shocker. I had no idea to the extent of what he was going through. Theories after theories about him and what he's going through got shot down the deeper I got into this book. And when everything was unveiled? I was a gaping idiot! I found him so sweet, so cute and stupid all at the same time xD He was effortless in his charms and even when he should come off as arrogant? It flowed differently and I just found myself falling for him too lol. Ellie was gone the moment she saw him in all his black-eye glory :D

The ending was super sweet and had me teary eyes because of the demons he had...the way his dad was? I swear - I wanted to hug Logan and never let go! But then when things got sweeter? The confession? The hot part? I was a goner! That's just it! Logan took my heart without even asking me!! lol

Seriously, who pays attention to a girl... no pressure and just...Idk. He just has this thing about him and its fucking hot <3

The only thing I didn't like about the book is the constant use of bitch. I get that the name bitch for whoever was well deserved but referring to the person like that all the time...and so early in the book too without barely knowing her, threw me for a loop. But in the end. Grade A Bitch wasn't enough to describe her =/

Argh.

Love le book!!

And thanks to the amazing author, Gina Robinson for giving me an ARC in return for my honest review

~~3 HEARTS~~

This is book 1 of a 3 book series.

This was a cute read. Ellie was betrayed by her mother in the worse possible way. Her mother was always trying to outdo her with clothes, looks, and boyfriends. Now she's on her own at college and she's determined to find the truth about a family secret.

While going to a college outing called WOW she makes up her mind to get her belly button pierced and there is where she meets Logan. He's nursing a black eye and ends up being her support and holding her hand while she gets her piercing. They first begin as friends and then it blooms into more quickly. I think this could have been so much better but unfortunately for me it wasn't. The emphasis on the weight of the secret was OTT to me. I just didn't think it was that big of an issue. I think if Ellie would've just talked to Logan it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but that's 90% of all books , right?! Not a book that would stay with you after you've completed it. But I will say I will read the rest of the books in this series just because I don't like not finishing a series. Hopefully it gets better.

Almost perfect. The pacing was the reason I gave 4 stars opposed to 5 but the romance was of the slow burn variety and the characters definitely made the story enjoyable bar a few. I'm definitely writing a full review for this one. I really liked it and it brought a very very important subject to light. Something that I didn't even fathom would be the final secret. Definitely made me think more than the usual books. It's quite hard to explain without spoilers but expect a full (spoiler free) review soon!

I will start by saying that prior to reading Reckless Longing I was in a bit of a funk for a new book. I had read a few good ones and a couple bad ones that I couldn't even finish so I was very uninspired to read anything while I was looking for 2 hours to find a new book.

After reading the synopsis I was definitely intrigued. Although there isn't very much information given, I felt there was enough to draw me in and peak my curiosity to what all the secrets could possibly be.

I will start with the positives of the book: I finished!! For me after the last few I read that really is quite an accomplishment. I also wanted to keep reading as the author did a good job of dragging us along to keep me wondering what all the twists would be. I enjoyed the story and the writing style and if felt as though I really did connect with the characters on some level.

Really, there was nothing "wrong" with the book except it just wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for. The synopsis (to me) makes it seem more dark and twisted with the secrets her and Logan were keeping. In reality it was quite light, and although they were not completely predictable there was enough mention leading up to the discovery of the 2 big secrets that it seemed like not that big a deal to Ellie. I guess as a reader, when I am really affected by a book it is because there is personal connection to the situation to draw on real emotion or I am completely blindsided by the revelation. During the whole thing it was thinking of different scenarios that could potentially pan out between Logan/El/Jason, El/Jason, Logan/Hell that I could see the twists coming chapters before it was revealed. Little bit too much foreshadowing for me.

I also didn't like that Logan and Ellie had their "issues" through the whole book and then BAM "I love you".....WTH?! you weren't even talking the day before? I guess I didn't feel their relationship to that point was love you worthy. I really did like the pace of the book overall but it seemed as though the author was getting tired and wanted to just wrap it up, so she put everything in the last chapter or 2. Logan's confession was the same to me. If it was such a huge secret/issue for him he came clean rather quickly for my taste, or maybe it was because as the reader we didn't even hear him confess, but rather a 3rd party tell Ellie what happened.

Ellie/Mom issue: I found this was almost glossed right over. There was obvious mentions of what possibly happened but we never knew if she told her friends or not (I speculate she did by later in the book though) and the "moment" came when talking to Jason but found it was completely overshadowed by the bigger admission at the time. This to me is a pretty big deal and found that there was no emotional connection to these deep dark secrets because there was no writing to make me fell as though it was significant in those moments to Ellie.

I guess overall, I was hoping for a more emotional impact. This had a lot of potential but half of the "issues" could have been cut out and to me it wouldn't have made a different in the story.

I WONT be reading the next however many books in this series. Although the book ends on a HEA cliffhanger, I can deduce from my skills at predicting the outcome of situations/novels I can only imaging what will happen in the next book. Possibly I will buy and only read the last few chapters as that probably would have been sufficient for this one to get the gist of the story.

So here is a tale with two people who have a shitloads of secrets. These secrets are hindering them from living in the present and moving on in the future.

Ellie has one purpose and one purpose only which is to find her biological dad. She had no plans of falling for someone who has the potential to break her heart.

Logan also has secrets but his are more heartwrenching than Ellie's.

After a chance meeting the two of their worlds collide causing the potential of their secrets to destroy one another or destroy the possibility of a relationship.

With Ellie even though she has her own secrets she is quick to make snap decisions about Logan's past due to her mom's brutal parenting.

Finally the secrets start to come out and the pull to one another can't be denied. We get our HEA but it really is more of a HFN because more secrets are coming to the surface and could potentially ruin the already vulnerable reunion of Logan and Ellie.

Sometimes I just wish couples in books would communicate more and have outside angst instead of so much miscommunication bullshit. This is just a personal rant and has no reflection on this particular book.

Actual rating: 4.25-4.5/5 stars.

First off the reason that a lot of eBooks take me what looks like forever to finish is that I only usually read them on days I work so it takes me a while. The only difference with this one is that I yesterday after work just didn't want to stop reading it so I just ended up finishing it at like 2 in the morning.

I wanted to think about my rating for this one even though I knew I really liked it and will be definitely continuing on with the story. I knew it wasn't a 5 star book.

I'm a big fan of college settings in books. They just lead to a lot of different things capable of happening. I like Ellie. I feel like she was an interesting main character. I love all the baking and her trying to figure out that recipe. But I feel like she didn't really develop a lot.

I love Logan. I love that the way you meet him is with this black eye from a pool game gone wrong. I like how he's sweet. Now he is someone I'd be happy to have in my life.

My biggest thing with why this is a lower rating is that I feel that we see Logan develop so much through this and Ellie not at all really. Logan and Ellie both have some big secrets they're keeping but the thing is that at least Logan opened up about his relationship with his father to her. Yes at the end his big one gets revealed and he talks about it but he then talks to her about it and let's her in to his life. Ellie on the other hand really doesn't at all let him in. She could've shared about her mother and her ex. She didn't need to share her big secret with him but at the same time I'm nervous to were this story will go if Ellie never opens up. I get her and Jason need to talk but if she hides it forever from Logan, I feel like she's going to lose him. Ellie needs to open up and grow more as a character.

This is a really sweet read. Ellie has no one in her life that cares for her. Her mother is not a warm and loving mother. She has never admitted to knowing who Ellie's biological father is, and has had a string of relationships. Then to top of everything she slept with Ellie's boyfriend. Ellie is a fighter though and she thinks she has tracked down her father. Starting at a new college she meets Logan and though she tries hard not to fall for him chemistry takes over, but Logan has secrets of his own that threaten to tear them apart. This book has lots of emotions and I have to admit it made me cry. I look forward to then next book in this series.

Score: 4.5

This review covers the three book series.

In these three New Adult college romances, nineteen-year-old Ellie Martin meets Logan Walker, who is everything that she didn’t know she wanted. Ellie has recently transferred across Washington State to a new college, one that bears a striking resemblance to W.S.U. or perhaps that’s just me remembering my days and years there. The setting is terrific from the cliff-diving days of summer to the all campus snowball fights to the fabulous cheeses and ice-cream created at the university to Mom’s Weekend in the spring before graduation.

Ellie has issues. She left home when her mother betrayed her in what Ellie considers the worst way. Tie in a break-up with her boyfriend and the reader knows that Logan will not find it easy to win her. She chose this university because she thinks her biological father works there, a man she has never met because of her mother’s machinations. No spoiler here – Mom is a piece of work and it takes the entire series to find out why. Ms. Robinson could have opted for the clichéd heroine, a young woman abandoned by her parents, but chose a more difficult path instead. All of the characters, regardless of whether they’re likeable or not, have reasons for what they do even if it takes a while to learn those motivations. Dex, Ellie’s study partner in Chem, is brilliant and it would be amazing to see what happens when he has a series of his own – hint, hint, hint! When he convinces Ellie that she needs to bake cookies for the graduate student who teaches their Chem Lab, it becomes an integral part of the plot and leads to so many complications.

Of course, Logan has baggage too. He not only keeps secrets from Ellie; he has problems controlling his temper and frequently runs from the trouble he creates. If these two manage to create a successful relationship, it will take time, patience and some serious growing up. As the series progresses, it seems like the dance is one step forward and two steps back, but none of the situations are contrived or simplistic. Each stage of the conflict between Ellie and Logan is well plotted and makes complete sense.

This is a New Adult series set on a college campus in a small town. Fast paced, it could have used more description of the town so the reader can see the university in all its glory. The same goes for the town centered around the college, a town where the population multiplies during the school year, but fades in the off season, i.e. the summer. Then, the reader will feel more of a connection to the ensemble cast. In addition, it would have been wonderful to know more about the academics. Whoops and there was that tiny glitch in Mom’s past about her high school boyfriend – he had one name in Reckless Secrets and another in Reckless Together. This is a minor point – but one that should have been caught in editing mode.

The reader is told that Ellie is going to class, but other than her sophomore Chemistry class, we never see the professors or what she undergoes in the lecture halls. It would have been wonderful to have the juxtaposition of professional instructors versus the wicked Witch of the 9AM Chem class. Okay, one more thing. We heard that this was an early class and it was majorly hard for Ellie to get there on time which was a bit of a stretch. However, in days gone by when I was in college, it was the 8AM classes that were a hardship. By 9AM, most people are usually coherent and Ellie was fairly responsible. She didn’t party on school nights.

These characters are nice kids for the most part, but this is not your typical sweet college story of young love. There is a lot going on in the dorm halls and on this campus. This includes drinking, partying, necking, sizzling sex – it’s safe sex – and consensual for the most part. This forwards the plot. It isn’t gratuitous or unnecessary. However, it could be too steamy for younger readers. There is also plenty of drama which can be expected when young adults are away from home for the first time. The series reads like a slice of life and despite the few glitches, these are people who can be trusted to change the world for the better. And we can trust them to take care of their adversaries.

Why I Picked It Up

I’ve been on a contemporary New Adult kick lately and this one fit the bill!

Plot

Reckless Longing is a book full of secrets. Ellie’s mother had been keeping the secret of her father’s identity for years and Ellie has just now figured it out. So she enrolls at the college that he works at and applies for a student job working under him before she decides whether to tell him or not. But she never expected to meet Logan Walker, who is hiding secrets of his own. Between the two of them the secrets are enough to destroy everything they were both working towards.

I liked the fact that this novel was based on so many secrets. It made figuring them out interesting because it kept you looking for clues. It also gave the novel that sense of urgency when a secret was almost revealed. And of course, it gave the novel drama when the secrets started getting out into the world. It was a pretty realistic plot–there wasn’t anything too out there but it was interesting enough to keep me reading.

Leading Lady

Ellie was trying to find a place where she belonged for a majority of the novel. She felt betrayed by her mother because of her actions before she left, and let me tell you: those feelings were well deserved. I found Ellie to be a pretty relatable character because of her need to find a family and to find a place where she belonged. Her mother had never made her feel that way so she craved it. I also enjoyed her determination as a character in everything she did. She was caring and was willing to give up a life that she could have for the sake of others to be happy.

Leading Male

Logan Walker had plenty of secrets of his own. On the outside he was the playful, cute college type, but on the inside he was fighting demons that I didn’t expect in the least. I had all types of predictions to Logan’s story and all of them were wrong. Logan gives off an air of mystery and I loved that about him. I also loved that we saw his vulnerable side. He was a dynamic and complex character that I loved getting to know.

Romance

The romance in this novel was slow building. It wasn’t immediate and I loved that the characters got to know each other first. They both had secrets that they were hiding which created some problems in their relationship, but that’s life and I love how realistically their relationship was portrayed. They definitely had their ups and downs over the course of the novel but they were a great match and complemented each other well. Their romance was sweet and cute more than sexy and it ranks as one of my favorites this year.

Other Characters

Dex filled the role of Ellie’s best friend. He was the comedic relief in this otherwise pretty heavy novel. He was fun, a bit on the evil genius side, and really cared about Ellie in a platonic way. I loved that there were no more-than-friends feelings in their relationship, just friendly, brotherly-sisterly ones.

Conclusion

Reckless Longing was an engaging novel about secrets and the effects that they have on those holding them and those involved. With great characters, both supportive and main, Reckless Longing was a novel that held my interest the entire way through.

Reckless Longing by Gina Robinson was pleasant surprise. She stepped out of her comfort zone and plunged into the New Adult genre. Normally Gina writes contemporary romantic suspense/ mystery romance. She embraced the New Adult genre and gave it her own special blend with some mystery, interesting villians, unique characters, and sizzling romance.

In Reckless Longing we meet Ellie Martin. She is a strong young heroine. She has grown up in the shadow of her mother. Her mother is beautiful, insecure, and man crazy. Her mother views Ellie as competition instead of daughter. She has gone through several marriages and kept Ellie’s paternity a secret. After her mother pulls a final stunt that damages Ellie. Ellie decides it’s time to turn her back on her mother. It is time to find out who her biological father is. It is time to transfer to another college that puts distance between her and her mother. She is determined to get through college with good grades and men are not on her agenda, unless it is her biological father. What she does not factor in is meeting sexy senior Logan Walker.

Logan Walker is hot! He has a bit of mystery to him that attracts Ellie. His secrets are deep and they could cost him everything he has worked for. Once he meets Ellie at the Week of Welcome event he is drawn to her.

Both are hiding secrets. This could make or break their relationship. As some of these secrets begin to surface, it causes not only their relationship to falter but also affects their academic life on campus. Can they survive the fallout?

This book not only focused on the couple. It also focused on their campus life, their academics, and the college environment. Their friends and support system are great fun loving college kids trying to find their way through college life just as they are.

This book has a lot of mystery that keeps building until the very end. In the ending some of the mysteries are solved but the fallout just opens a new can of worms. So the book does end in a cliffhanger. The cliffhanger makes the reader anxious for the next book because they become very involved in Ellie and Logan’s life.

Gina wrote a powerful, yet fun and entertaining new adult romance. She captured the college environment in all it’s glory. She added twist and turns that are not in most new adult romances. Her characters are full of personality and come to life. The reader falls in love with these two young people.

I highly recommend this book. The next installment is Reckless Secrets. Hopefully Ellie and Logan will survive the next hurdle.

And yes…I am going to bake Ellie’s Top-Secret Cobblestone Bars…

Damn Ellie, I have never been so envious of a heroine! I wish I had Logan next to me when I had my piercings done, what an experience would that be, huh? Thumbs up for Robinson though, now I have a quirky reason to show my belly-piercing *smirks*
Ellie and her not so nice friends was attending freshers event when she stumbled upon black-eyed Logan, who kindly came to her rescue, holding her hands while she nervously awaits 'till her belly pierced.

This is the clever bit...

Ellie didn't go to that specific university without a purpose. she has a goal, a secret goal.
Logan, who have the whole holy trinity going on (smart, sexy, and chivalrous) has infact skeleton behind his closet too! *que the gasp*
Unraveling this mystery was totally a page turner, Robinson creatively twist and turn the plot - it was hard to predict what is the next move. Oh what a dramatic climax it was... my jaw was down the floor by the end of the book!

Character wise, it was so nice to like everyone of them, yes I admit I even like the villains - yes double villain indeed. They have properly acted out their 'evilness' purpose (if you get what i mean).
Ellie and Logan was such a star-crossed character, they have each dark secret they buried behind the closet - throughout the ups and downs of the story, they slowly began to reveal themselves to each other, reaching equilibrium.
Supporting characters were not shadowed, each individual was awesome on their own way. I personally love the revision gang, hear me out... they are not any ordinary revision team - they're like super spy and Stephen Fry's love child! apparently, baking goods + revision makes a very good grades~ I'd backed up this preach completely.
Something that i should mention to highlight is the way Robinson approach to unravel the story. She hasn't 'dropped the hot pot' at the introduction nor does she wrapped up the book in sugar fluff. Reckless Longing has its gritty deep angst Robinson cleverly slow stirred throughout the story - creating this very juicy, tender, and oh la la awesomeness!
Reckless Longing is one of the New Adult book people should read, especially those who like Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire or Real by Katy Evans. It's a more grown up version of 'Teenage Dream', with the flair of angst a la New Adult. Delicieux!

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 3rd April 2014:

RATING: 4 STARS!

I enjoyed Reckless Longing. Ellie and Logan are great characters.

Logan had me scratching my head a couple times with his behavior. I really liked him, but he kinda made up a bullshit reason at the start when he met Ellie, which I didn’t see necessary. Then later on in the book he was on a date, yet he didn’t want to date Ellie, due to his reasons.

WT!

When he is switched on with Ellie he is a really nice guy. He has some painful secrets that made me cringe for him.

I did laugh at how well the lads apartment was set up with very female kitchen products. I mean a mixer, really? I just didn’t see them whipping up a pavlova. They had all the bases covered for Operation Cobblestone Bar.

Logan was the rare college man who had a kitchen equipped with a heavy-duty standalone Kitchen Aid mixer.

Heheee!!

The one guy that made me laugh was Dex. He is an awesome character. He is smart and quite the plotter of devious ways to sic it to a certain Professor. He is great fun to read.

“Don’t go soft on me, Ellie. Believe me, nerdy guys fight to be TAs precisely because of the female attention they expect from girls that are way out of their league. Let him have his day and his fantasies.”

Ellie has her agenda for meeting her father who works at the college she is now attending. Now I didn’t say she was going to confess who she was to him.

Or does she?

Jason is a really nice guy. He has a really great soul and knows how to help the students out and keep their secrets.

I really enjoyed operation Cobblestone Bar, although I did wonder how the poor chef felt who had her recipe stolen.

Navel piercing, black eye, secrets, Cobblestone bars, exploding devices ( well sort of ) and a Professor who really had me questioning who they let into these positions, throw in some angst and this was a great start to this series.

College life, it certainly kept these characters on their toes.

LIKED THIS VERY MUCH

Ellie Martin is a transfer student at university, well away from her hometown, and more specifically her mother. Ellie's issues with her mother run very deep. She's also recovering from a bad breakup with her boyfriend Austin.
Then she meets Logan Walker, he's a senior and he's gorgeous, kind and very popular, and he seems interested in Ellie. But she has got too many personal problems, to consider a relationship. Logan seems to have his own demons as well. So they agree to be friends.

I've not read anything by this author before, and I have to say I like her writing style very much. The story is told solely through Ellie's eyes. It's her voice and her thoughts alone that the reader sees. Secrets abound in this. I'm not going to say more as I don't want to give anything away. I liked Ellie she's had a rough time, but is determined to survive. Logan was a really nice caring guy, he did one or two things that I didn't quite get, and I was hoping Ellie would pull him on some things. But though she thought about it she didn't voice it to him. The other characters in this were not particularly fleshed out. Except for Ellie's best friend Dex, I really liked him. I thought I had guessed Logan's secret. But no I hadn't I didn't see that one coming. It was a great twist. What I didn't like was the abrupt ending. Not exactly a cliffhanger but we are left with so many unanswered questions. I suppose that's for the next book. Overall I really liked this. I will definitely be reading more. Lets hope we don't have to wait too long.

2.5 The start of the book was interesting and had me intrigued. But after the final get to know each other between Ellie and Logan it dragged. The book made me believe the parents were awful and would be primary players but one never showed up and the other a brief scene. I liked dex but all the other characters not so much. There were lots of little fires going on in this story. Which actual was distracting. I wanted to read about mommy dearest since she was the common ground of the synopsis but she never showed. The situation with Logan felt forced. I'm not talking about what happened to him but the stuff leading up. Then Ellie's reaction to it. She was really blind and even if it was consensual it was none of her business because it was before her. I never really felt Logan and Ellie connected. Suddenly they had this deep bond? I tended to think her friends were right in regards to him just stringing her on because that's what it looked like. Austin comes back and that was wrapped up in a nice bow! This book wasn't for me but it has the potential for greatness. Should of stuck with mommy dearest like the synopsis said. I shouldn't have to wait two books to meet the primary antagonist.

First read for me by this author. I didn't realise when I first started reading that it's part of a trilogy. However, it kept me hooked. Both Ellie and Logan have secrets. We find them out in this book but it does end quite abruptly. The author does a good job of keeping the tension going. I liked both Ellie and Logan. Their romance in this book is a very slow burn..there are very few 'make out' scenes.

Some of the other characters could have been fleshed out a bit more but as it's a trilogy, maybe that will come in the other books. Not sure when the next book is out yet but it takes place immediately after the ending of this book. I look forward to reading more about Ellie and Logan's relationship and how they deal with Ellie's 'secret'.

A good read and nice writing style.

This really frustrated me. I hate books that aren’t standalones. I really wish they would make that clear in the description. But I guess that’s my bad too, I should have checked the 2nd book.

It was ok, but there were definitely a few weird parts that felt really forced.

As with most New Adult books there was lots of angst in this book along with lots of drama and emotion.

Ellie has moved college to get away from her mother, a woman who has always been in competition with her daughter and has recently slept with her boyfriend. Ellie has only moved to this college because she believes that her father may be at this college as a professor.

Ellie meets Logan a boy who holds her attention and holds her hand as she goes for a piercing and likes him, and she alway makes friends with three girls Taylor, Bree and Nic. Sex makes an awesome male friend and he also has a prankster side and helps get rid of a nasty professor, but also helps out Ellie with so many other things. I really loved Dex.

Ellie and Logan meet again, but both have their secrets which do come between them in time and both find themselves gravitating towards each other even though they know they shouldn't be.

A good book, but it leaves you with quite a few questions.

😄

So much of her life has been in a disarray since she and her stepfather found her mother in bed with her boyfriend. Now can she learn to trust any man? especially one hiding secrets even if she has some of her own. Has Ellie really found her father his daughter looks exactly like her when she was a baby could that be all the proof she needs?

Google Books - 3-3.5 stars

Ellie (19) - transfer student, likes to bake cookies
Logan (21?) - fellow student

I've had a bit of a slump with reading lately, but this was an easy read with some humour between the love interests. I could guess some of the plot points but I still enjoyed reading it.

Ends on a bit of a cliff hanger.

I didn't like this book. I didn't like nor cared about Ellie enough to get invested in this story. I thought Logan was an okay character, but he didn't leave a lasting impression on me. I enjoyed some of aspects of this story, but just when I thought I was getting interested, something would happen, I'd roll my eyes and went back to skimming through.

Definetley, not the story for me.
