The Exile and the Savior

Rate this book
When the rules no longer apply, the only thing left to break is your heart.

Cassandra Fortin is a Shrouded Sister no longer, unshackled from her vows. But she's struggling to find her purpose outside the Temple. And her feelings for Tristan are more complicated than ever, given his recently revealed secrets.

Tristan Saros’s past has come back to haunt him—guilt-ridden memories of a tragedy that crushed his dreams and nearly cost him his life. And could cost him the future he so desperately wants with Cassandra.

A surprise visit from the Fae Emperor brings deadly new burdens and a new assignment for Tristan and Cassandra. As the pair travel the colonies, enemies emerge wielding long-dead magic while a divine influence threatens to pitch the continent into turmoil--an influence that hints Tristan and Cassandra have larger roles to play in the looming battle for the soul of Ethyrios.

If they can learn to trust each other again.

Though their passion comes easy, unguarding their hearts is another matter. Even as the fate of their world may very well rest upon their combined power.

For when the Exile and the Savior unite, an Empire will tremble.

The Exile and the Savior is the heart-pounding second installment in The Memory Puller series, new adult fantasy full of epic adventure, thrilling twists, swoony romance, and witty banter. And hot Fae males with wings, of course. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Raven Kennedy, and Carissa Broadbent.

Thank you Kris Haines for gifting me with an advanced reader's copy of The Exile and the Savior ❤️

Holy crap that ending...

I absolutely adore these characters but I have to say I knew Xenia and Cael would have me fangirling hard over them in this sequel. We got crumbs of them in book 1 but their chemistry here is just *chef's kiss*

I appreciate the backstories we got for these characters and it definitely helped flesh them out more.

The banter, as always, is 10/10.

The spice is IMMACULATE. I don't know how many times I had to fan myself.

The book also has its fair share of twists, some I saw coming and some left me bamboozled.

What I get out of these books is FUN. Even when there isn't much action going on, Kris manages to allow the readers to enjoy their time with the characters.

I did enjoy this book throughly and recommend it for fantasy romance readers, can't wait for book 3!

THAT ENDING?? omg

I wasn't initially convinced about diving into the entire series but I loved the increased action and the new characters. The writing had a much smoother flow, making it an effortlessly engaging read despite the multitude of events.

Honestly, the additional points of view weren't my favorite thing, solely because i couldn’t connect with Xenia and Cael ( yes, i understand they’re important!), so I mostly skimmed through their chapters – gave them a read but didn't delve into every little detail like I did with Cas and Tristan.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it, is a simple and entertaining story.

SO GOOD!! I loved book one and yall know, it’s always hard to follow an amazon book one with a just as good book two. But THIS BOOK DID IT. In fact, I think I liked it even better than book one which really says a lot?? It was fast paced, the romance was delightful, the characters were fantastic, and the TWISTS. Def recommend if you like Carissa Broadbent or SJM!

This book😳😭🫠

We all knew I was going to love it because I’m obsessed with The Memory Puller. I can’t begin to describe to you why this book was an absolute masterpiece. The plot, the pacing, the spice🥵, everything was perfect. Kris K. Haines’s writing is pure magic.

I’m so so happy it picked up right where the last book ended so we could get Cassandra’s full reaction to that freaking cliffhanger. But ya’ll if I thought the cliffhanger in the first book was crazy? NO. THIS CLIFFHANGER HAD ME SCREAMING. Why do I do this to myself??? Why do I read arcs knowing full well how long I’m going to have to wait for the next book??😩

I’m still obsessed with Cassandra and Tristan. More so now after this book! I loved the progression of their relationship and their fun, teasing banter. Tristan is hilarious and my favorite cinnamon roll MMC ever.

Cael😭😭 I love him and just want to protect him from the world. Adding in his and Xenia’s POV was the best decision. I love love love their chapters.

Please for the love of all that is holy, GO READ THIS SERIES!!!

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy to review!

Hi I love with this series. :D

I absolutely loved this sequel! I was clearly obsessed with the first book, so you can imagine my excitement to get my hands on the sequel.

This is perfect for lovers of Romance, healing, fae, spice, and multiple POV. Cass and Tristan were amazing in this book. I was rooting for them in the first book but there was so much growth in book 2. I loved the characters! We dive a little bit deeper when it comes to each character, which Im here for. I enjoy learning more and more about the characters and the reason behind their flaws and Haines delivered that to us.

The plot had a great pace and the twists! what was that?? but as I've already stressed, I loved it! I gotta say if you are a lover of Raven Kennedy, SJM, Carissa Broadbant, this would probably be perfect to add to your TBR.

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy and collaborating with me! All Opinions are my own!

This was such a great story.

The writing felt more fluid this time.
Please take the trigger warnings seriously.

There were a few parts in the middle and end that made me squeamish.

It was great seeing this world more developed and expanded. The POV switching was seamless. I really appreciate the unique way this author handles magic and fae.

I can’t wait to see where this goes! The ending 🥰😱 How can a cliff hanger get better? lol somehow this author made it work

If your looking for something different and fun and liked the first book, you’ll love this. Even The spice was👌🏻

Thank you to the author and BOMM for the review copy. This is an honest review.

In Kris K. Haines's second installment of The Memory Puller series, "The Exile and the Savior," we are welcomed back to the vividly immersive world of Ethyrios, brimming with political intrigue, looming threats, and deepening romances. It does not suffer sophomore syndrome by any stretch.

Cassandra Fortin and Tristan Saros face new challenges in a tale teeming with broadening world-building and darker themes than the previous book. Haines deftly expands the canvas, weaving a narrative that's as richly detailed as it is captivating. Side characters, particularly Xenia and Cael, take on larger roles, contributing to the story's depth and complexity. Their story resonated with me, in particular, and I cannot wait to see what happens with those two. This installment also delves deeper into Tristan's past, offering a poignant exploration of his guilt, redemption, and the burgeoning bond between Tristan and Cassandra. As the pair navigates a world embroiled in rebellion and mysterious ancient magic, their relationship evolves amidst the stirring political powers.

"The Exile and the Savior" excels in its character development, amplifying the emotional connections and complexities between the protagonists. The story ventures into darker territories, delivering a more gripping narrative while maintaining the trademark swoon-worthy romance and witty banter. This is an epic sequel that left me eager for more. I need to know what happens to our favorite Birdman and Daredevil! Hurry up and write faster, Kris!

It's pretty rare to love a sequel as much as the first book of the series, at least for me. But man... this one! I am utterly and irrevocably in love with this series, to me, it's FLAWLESS. The world building and plot aside from the romance is captivating! The action scenes are beautifully balanced between fast paced and important. The SIDE characters are just as important and interest as the main ones to me, I am deeply heartbroken because of CASS and I just need him to heal and accept to beloved and happy with Zee) I loved her growth and evolution on this book, she's like a tinny angry bada$$ now haha) - I need a book to explore these two. Now, Wingman & Daredevil? MY BABIES! They are perfect together, seriously crazy chemistry and they ARE their end game. The plot twists on this book are also wild and it made me EAT this book up in a couple days. Overall, it's a beautify, captivating, heart warming, heartbreaking too! It's well written, fresh and it's not just ''another romantasy''. It's interesting, new and BEAUTIFUL. Such a happy finding, I love this story!

4.5 -⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

"I would have travelled infinite worlds, shredded the cosmos, to find you."

The Exile and the Savior is the second novel in the adult fantasy romance series, The Memory Puller. Taking off after the events of the first book we follow Tristan and Cassandra as they are forced into a dangerous mission to uncover long lost magic in the colonies where failure could be their lives at the hand of the emperor. We also follow Cael and Xenia as they attempt to survive their trials while also deny the connections between them. Something larger is at play as these four attempt to find their way where fate seems to have a hand and the empire will forever by changed...by the exile and the savior.

This series has it's hooks on me.

Tristan and Cass' dynamic continues to draw me in. Cass has now found herself with new freedoms...but also uncertainty at what the future holds. Tristan's past becomes more unravelled in this book and BOY does he have some baggage to deal with. Their romance is far from finished and the delicious angst and connection got to me.

Cael and Xenia surprised me with how much their journey stuck with me. These two are put through the trials and suffer in may ways but the blossom of something between them has me mesmerized.

This book does contain spice - I would say 2.5 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There is some really good steam but this is a somewhat slow burn as they characters grapple with their feelings and connection. The spice progressively grows so when you get to the second have it is very rewarding.

"I could die from this. From wanting you."
"Then we'll die together."

In terms of the story and world we get a whole lot more lore around the monarchy than has me VERY intrigue along with prophecies, Tristan's family, and a lost love. It has me quite invested! Now the story is somewhat slow in the initial stages as we get a handle on what we are actually doing but there are twists, mysteries, and investigations that tempt and tease you throughout. I mean the banter alone! I was not expecting certain things but the one twist I anticipated I spent PAGES gleefully seeing the breadcrumbs unfolding. The ending is a cliffhanger but it is a cliffhanger that has me excited despite the tension and angst it makes me feel.

Overall, this book continues to help this series thrive and I am thoroughly enjoying me time in this world. I want more time with romantic Tristan and Cass and I hope this will happen more often in book 3!

This series is on Kindle Unlimited!

This was just as thrilling and exciting as the first one. I absolutely fell in love with these characters even more. And I love that we get to experience the 2 sets of characters going through their own trials and tribulations. Cael might just be my new favorite, although Tristan still holds a special place.

This had great pacing and lots of action to keep me completely enthralled throughout. I do have to say that the last 20% had me holding my breath... for good reasons and bad... And that ending was completely jaw-dropping, to say the least! I'm so excited about this series. It's fun, exciting, great world building, great character dynamics, angtsy slow burn, and fantastic spice. I'm already ready for book 3!

The Exile and the Savior took a little while for me to get into, but, once it did, I was INVESTED. If you've read this book—yes, that carriage scene lives rent free in my head.

I love the new POVs in this book, but I'm happy that we still get a lot of Cass and Tristan.

I'm planning to continue this series and can't wait for the next installment.

Did not expect to finish this in one day, but I couldn’t put it down. Just as much fun as the first book! I will add more of my thoughts on this series after I read the ARC of book 3.

Knowing we would get more from Xenia and Cael in book two, I had high expectations and it did not disappoint. The trapped together trope was perfect for them, and it was nice to see their story progress on their own away from Cassandra and Tristan. The crawling scene (if you know, you know) is gonna be stuck in my head for a very long time. If you read book one and were worried there wouldn’t be enough relationship development left between Tristan and Cassandra, let me assure you there absolutely is. Book two has some really big pay offs that were worth the wait and still left a lot of questions unanswered with a cliffhanger to get me stoked for book four.

I just can’t get enough of Cass and Tristan! I was not expecting to love these characters even more than the first book, which I also read as an ARC, but this book is phenomenal! Watching Cassandra struggle with herself as far as Tristan is concerned is very angsty but brings so so much to this book. Watching the characters grow as themselves and in their connections and relationships is heartwarming. I loved getting to experience more of Tristan’s backstory and hearing about Cael’s broke my soul. I have such high hopes for him and Xenia. I want everything that Cass and Tristan have for the two of them. I have so so many hopes for book 3 and these characters I’ve grown to love.

This book follows Cass and Tristan on yet another adventure to save themselves and their people. Including Cael and Xenia, who are braving this book on their own adventures to freedom. Freedom from their captors and from the family/life choices that were given to them. Per usual the world building is amazing. I feel like I am truly living in this story with them. The pace is flawless and the characters growth is wonderful. And don’t even get me started on the spice! *wink wink* This book will literally keep you hooked from page 1! Trust me, I had a LONG work day due to my inability to put this masterpiece down lol
I wasn’t expecting the ending but I AM HERE FOR IT! Kris, you have just secured your forever place in my bookish little heart with this series and I hope it never ends! To the new Ethyrios and long live the Exiled Prince!

Absolutely AMAZING!

I love these characters, I love this world, and I love the magic system.

Expanding the POVs could have gone SO WRONG but Kris K Haines is BRILLIANT and she did it masterfully in a way that really highlighted parelallel stories happening at the same time uplifting the entire story, rather than focusing on one POV and restricting this world.

Consider me HOOKED on this series.

“Love isn’t a limited resource. There’s boundless capacity for it within us all. Just because someone takes yours and is careless with it doesn’t mean you should stop offering.”

Actual Rating: 4.5⭐

This sequel did not disappoint, it already has a plus point for giving the recap of the 1st book at the beginning. It’s very helpful for readers to refresh their memories of what happened previously, I wish all sequels have this!

The plot started right after the ending of the 1st book and there’s so many things happening in this book like discovering Cassandra’s power, Tristan’s background story, the mystery of the necklace whereabout and on top of that a new set of characters are also added here.
It was written really well that I didn’t feel overwhelm with all these much going on, in fact I really enjoy my time going through all of them.

The story is told from multiple POVs, we finally got to see the story develop through Xenia and Cael’s POVs. I can feel the spark between them ever since the 1st book and now we got to see their chemistry and feelings even closer! I absolutely adore them both and Cael deserved so much more! I wish I could hug the guy…!

I also love the bantering and spicy scenes between Cassandra and Tristan. They can finally let their relationship grow into something more, especially now that theirs is not as off limit as before.

The last few chapters are quite intense, it had me sitting upright the whole time because of the unexpected twists that keeps coming!
Moreover, it also ends with a HUGE CLIFF-HANGER once again…. I wish book 3 is already out so I can continue right away!

Overall, this is a great addition to the series. It’s highly enjoyable, entertaining and recommended for fantasy romance readers!
The plot is progressing with more secrets getting revealed which makes the stake is getting higher!
I am REALLY looking forward to read the next book!!

Spice: 3 peppers

It’s been four days since I finished reading this book, and I’m still not over it. I still don’t know how to write a coherent review that isn’t me just writing “aaaAAAaaaAAAAHHHH!” And yes, I still think about this book, these characters, and that ending nonstop. It was that good.

THE EXILE AND THE SAVIOR can easily go in the list of sequels that are as good if not better than the first book, which says a lot because I adored The Memory Puller, so much so that I reread it before jumping into the sequel and ended up bumping up my review from 4.5 to 5. Tristan and Cassandra have claimed and confirmed their status as one of my favorite Romantasy couples ever, and the addition of Cael’s and Xenia’s POVs only added and strengthened the story. A story that is strong for its incredible cast of main and secondary characters, but also for a stunning worldbuilding and a plot that keeps upping the scales. Everything was so well constructed, the tension so well done, that by the time I reached the ending, I had a knot in my stomach because I felt it in my bones that something was going to happen. I won’t go into detail, but I will say that it’s one of the most well-done endings I’ve ever read. I’m a mess of emotions right now, and very excited for the next books in the series.

Thank you to the author for collaborating with me! Opinions are my own and I purchased a copy myself as I’m a huge fan of the series.

One of my favorite feelings in the world is when I pick up a sequel for a book I loved, and end up loving it even more!

THE EXILE AND THE SAVIOR was definitely one of those cases! I will forever recommend this series to anyone who loves Sarah J. Maas books--especially her romances! This book specifically has two romantic storylines which are great examples of strangers to friends to lovers, and are full of all the delicious angst and pining one loves and needs from romantasy, alongside a captivating and engaging plot that didn't let up for a single second!

All the characters went through such incredible growth. I especially loved finding out more about Tristan and Cael's backstories, and seeing the relationships develop. Tristan and Cassandra were a confirmation with their great chemistry and their innate capacity of making me squeal and scream at the book with equal intensity, but Cael and Xenia were a surprise in how deep and angsty they were! I just want all these characters to be happy, which the author clearly doesn't agree with if that cliffie is anything to go by.

Super excited to see where the story goes from here! After all the unexpected twists and reveals in this one, the bar is super high!

Thank you to the author for collaborating with me for an IG promotion! I have purchased a copy of the book myself as I am a huge fan of this series. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

✨The Exile and the Savior✨

What. Just. Happened. In. My. Life! Kris!!
This series has me in a CHOKEHOLD and I’m so excited to move to book 2.5 BUT I NEED 3 right now!!

In this sequel of the Memory Puller series, we continue to follow our desperate and deliciously forbidden romance FMC and MMC, Cassandra and Tristan. But we also get two new MCs AND a new and equal tragic romance budding between the other half of our found family: Cael and Xenia. We begin right where we left off but there’s NEW pawns and players entering the stage. More plot twists, hidden identities, political intrigue, and betrayals. Cass and Tristan must work against several rebels group and the emperor without knowing which to trust while Cael and Zee must figure out how to escape their current circumstances.

The action is FIERCE. The banter so very entertaining. And the ROMANCE. 👩‍🍳💋 the angst, tension, and pining are REAL and the spice is SPICING. But that ENDING. KRIS HAINES. *dramatic sigh*

Tropes you may find within these pages are wound tending, slow burn, forced proximity, pining, forbidden romance, winged MMC’s, touch her and 💀, burn the world for her, one cell/one bed, betrayals, plot twists, medium-high spice, elemental magic, unique fae, large works building and character development, and a cliffhanger.

This is book 2 in TMP series and this series keeps getting better and better! Available now and on KU!

Wow. 🤯 I absolutely LOVED this book. It was the perfect sequel to The Memory Puller series and it kept me on my toes the entire time! I lost sleep feverishly turning pages into the late hours of the night (ok early morning 🤫) because I just had to know what happened next.

The depth we saw from our characters; their inner turmoil & pain, the budding and swoon-worthy love, the action, the plot, the spice!? Simply too good. 😭

One thing that really stood out to me was the way mental health/trauma was discussed/spoken about in this book — it was heartbreaking and beautiful and REAL, and I saw some of myself in characters I would’ve never expected to identify with which was such a pleasant surprise. 🫶

Now - the romance?! I’m just as, if not more, obsessed w our winged fae men in book 2 and I absolutely loved that we got more of Xenia/Cael. Cass/Tristan are goals & I just really enjoyed seeing the contrast in the two couples; a budding will they/won’t they push ‘n pull, and the other two beautiful stubborn idiots who are meant for each other!!

My thoughts are all over the place but I just LOVE this series and am so excited to see where this story goes next.

The Exile and The Savior comes out Nov 29th so it is the ✨perfect✨ opportunity to read book 1: The Memory Puller!

You’ll love this if you’re a fan of:
- prophecies 🔮
- emerging gods ⚡️
- banter & spice 🌶️
- multi POV 👫
- plot twists 🌪️
- healing journey ❤️‍🩹
- winged fae men 🧝‍♂️

This book started off a bit slow, but eventually sucked me in just like the first. Now that the story is progressing, there are more plot points that make it original where the first felt like a watered down version of other popular romantasy series’. Don’t get me wrong, there are still a LOT of ties to other well known stories, but the parts that are original are pretty good. I’m still not a huge fan of the MMC(s) being these dudes with tons and tons of sexual experience where the FMC(s) have very little. There’s lots of jealously being thrown around and that’s just not something I enjoy. The relationships felt well paced, but there was also some miscommunication tropes thrown in the mix, which I also don’t enjoy. I found it frustrating that the conflict could be easily solved if the characters just talked to each other.

Overall, I like where this series is headed and I’ll be sticking around to see where the story goes whenever book 3 comes out.

Squee! This second installment is even better than the first, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to read this ARC! I first picked up The Memory Puller because I was intrigued by the unique world of Ethyrios and the struggle of classism between the humans and the fae. In The Exile and the Savior, we dive deeper into this world along with our favorite rebellious duo, Cass and Tristan. The plot has plenty of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, and the cliffhanger at the end has me itching for Book 3!

Cass and Tristan's relationship is so sweet and spicy that I'm awww-ing one moment and fanning myself the next🫠. I'm thoroughly enjoying their adventure, but Cael and Xenia take the cake. I love love love their added POVs and the tension between them is just *chef's kiss*. I can't wait for more!

The pacing and plot of this book has noticeably improved from book 1, helped by the fact that Zinia & Kale’s POVs are included so there’s a second story/quest happening at the same time. We get a lot more political/cultural development in this book, more action and suspense, and get to see how brutal things really are.

I like all the characters, though they do feel pretty copy/paste from other fantasy books (I’ve read a shit load though so take with a grain of salt). The romance between Cass and Tristan feels more organic to me, while Zinia and Kale’s feels less natural but maybe that’s the point.

Still don’t love the FMC narrator sometimes but she has improved for book 2, although there are so very obvious audio editing/quality issues (lines being repeated twice and left in, weird skips or ends of words being cut off).

Honestly this second book was just as perfect as book one for me : I really love Kris K Haines’ writing and how immersive it is.
Cassandra and Tristan were still their banter and sizzling chemistry selves.
With this second book we got a lot more of Cael and Xenia and I loved them just as much as Cass and Tristan.
The plot was still, if not even better than book one and it is clearly the start of an amazing long lasting plot that will probably develop in multiple books. And if Kris K Haines wants to make 15 of these, I am here for it.
And that ending ! I saw it coming but it was still amazing and heartbreaking at the same time.
So I need every book in this universe immediately!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Spice level: 3

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Strong language, graphic sexual content, violence, gore, attempted sexual assault (not between main couple), domestic violence (not on the page and not main couple), mental illness, suicidal thoughts, animal death, loss of memory, and amnesia

The Exile and the Savior starts off exactly where The Memory Puller left off. This book is a wild ride that I was not ready for. We get two povs this time around and I love them both. The characters really feed off one another while driving the plot. I didn't feel like the story dragged at any point. I didn't ever want to stop reading it but the real world had to come into play.

I am not a fan of the Emperor nor did I think I was supposed to be. He's a dick more than I thought he was going to be.

I liked how I would have questions and they would be answered in this book. We got to know more about Tristan. I also liked who the title turned out to be.

That cliff hanger....I need the next book now.

I was so excited to read this and I was not disappointed!
As with all second books I was a little nervous that it wouldn't live up to the first but this!! Loved it
I was immediately reminded why I loved the characters and the world. I was truly immersed from start to finish.
I highly recommend.
I was very lucky to be able to read the arc, thank you.

First, I loved that book 2 of this series started with a recap of the first book. I spent a very long time trying to find a spoiler summary of book 1 to jog my memory to no avail. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened to the recap after finally deciding to just jump back into it without a refresher.

Second, this was actually me after finishing: 😧
Wow, I can’t wait for book 3.
