As Gimul heals from the attacks, Ryoma’s life in this fantasy world finally regains some normalcy. He’s been contracted as an official engineer for the duke after his contributions to city defense and restoration. Now Ryoma embarks on a journey bound for the Sea of Trees of Syrus to fulfill one of his lifelong goals. As he completes quest after quest to raise his adventurer rank in preparation, he reunites with Reinbach by coincidence...and meets a couple of Reinbach’s old friends.
New magic and equipment come into play in this chapter of Ryoma’s laidback adventure!
Ryoma finally reveals his status as an otherworlder to the Jamil family except for Elia. We meet some new faces in this volume as well. There’s the Witch of Death’s Shadow, a former court magician, and Reinbach’s good friend the former Knight Captain. I can’t wait to start the next volume.
Back to adventuring for Ryoma after the battle in Gimul. Here he meets up with Reinbach and his friends and joins them on a trip to the City of Lost Souls, whilst working and inching his way towards eventually going to The Sea of Trees of Syrus.
After the intense and thrilling previous entry, this went back to a more leisurely vibe and I appreciated and enjoyed that. And the introductions of Reinbach's companions Sever and Remilly was also a welcome breath of fresh air. Looking foreward to the next one!
While completing quests to raise his adventurer guild rank, Ryoma stumbles upon Reibach and his friends, Sebas the reliable butler, a former army captain, and a former imperial mage. The five decide to journey together to the City of Lost Souls as they are searching for the same herb. On the way, they fight lots of undead, Ryoma learns more about fighting and magic from these veterans and happily welcomes a new slime variety.
This volume is more relaxed than the last volume but equally just as riveting. With these new characters, Ryoma manages to gain more reliable allies as well as introduce a lot of his amazing inventions and discoveries. Seeing Ryoma in this brand-new location is also very refreshing. He's only been in Gimul or another similar city lately so seeing him in this nightmarish canyon-type place is new.
Despite having read the webnovel, and seen the anime and manga, I still look forward to each new light novel volume that comes out. This is definitely one of my top 3 favorite light novels. Each medium has a slight variation so it's fun to read all of them. The characters are really loveable and Ryoma's life is just so interesting.
Ryoma has left his base of operations to explore the world a bit more and to train for his upcoming expedition into the Sea of Trees. He runs across some old friends while on his way to an undead filled area. Together they fight undead, but are mostly discussing the world, developing light spells and researching new slimes.
It feels a lot like an intermezzo volume. Slice-of-life with a bit of action, but mostly world development (through talking) and research by the characters. It fits my expectations, although I did find things getting a bit boring at times. So a good, if somewhat short, addition to the series, but definitely not the best.
While the story is fun and the characters are enjoyable I have one major complaint. The fact that the book is less then 200 pages long and the story just ended where the second act should start. On top of that it was abrupt ending that was just unsatisfying. I recommend waiting on book 14 before wasting your time on this book because you are going to left disappointed. Again the story is great up until the ending.
I like this volume. It has so much depth on Ryoma’s character and development. I can’t believe how many people have figured out that Ryoma is a child of the gods. But what I’m interested is how the King knows. I’m also curious as to why Eliaria is being overprotected by his family. I wonder what the gods will do to protect the holy land.
I am in love with this series and our MC!! Cannot wait to see what happens next. Looking forward to his growth, interactions with the God's, and his upcoming adventure to the Sea of Tree's (May have spelt that wrong). Enjoying the growth of his magic, slimes, experiments/inventions, and other monsters.
This one was entertaining but I had a few issues. They jump from Ryoma rank E to C without involving the reader on the adventuring fun which is supposes to be the main element for these books...I mean they wasted 2 books on all the political BS and noble this and noble that but then skipped all the adventuring to rank up. That said I did enjoy him meeting with the "seniors party" LOL They are fun and I loved the undead theme. That said, I get why they will "kind of know" about Ryoma status, but I did not like they MADE him share the information by pressuring. Also I do not get the purpose of sharing with others. I feel that he escaped a life of obedience and brownnosing to jump to the same thing on his new life. Chicken playing chess, super funny. If it wasn't for that and for the adventure itself, the rating would be lower. I feel that this serie have been about the Jamil's being Ryoma's puppet masters instead of about him enjoying a life that he is supposed to be living chilling. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!
